Reviews for What's In A Name?

I was wondering if you know why the Japanese names were so different from the translations? Just out of curiosity if you understood the language and why Cid is pronounced Shido and Sierra is Shera. It's actually fairly simple and those aren't original Japanese names either, they're "foreign" names, which is why they're translated into Cid or Sid and Shiera--literal romaji spelling of the phonetics as there is no "she" but there is "shi, sha/shya, sho/shyo, shu/shyu" and "e" in the language--is technically Sierra although everyone spells it Shera....?

Sorry, I've been studying the language for years and I always find it interesting when a story pops up about translations of names. I'm always curious to know if the person who wrote them has any understanding of the language itself and why the names are the way they are, let alone how they get translated. It also ends up making sense why "Aerith" was mistranslated as "Aeris" in the original game given there is a lack of "th" sounds in the Japanese language and in foreign words those sounds often get replaced with "s" or "d", depending on how the word/name sounds when said all together.

    Ahh, rambling again...

    A curious friend,
