It starts here and now.

This is a revision of my first story. I have changed some things, and explained some things more clearly. I'm a stickler for detail, so if you don't like detail, well...

I don't own Final Fantasy Square Enix does.

Thank you to Mariam for the feedback.

A new terror arises. Rufus brings in a new Doctor, and the experiments start again. Hikari is the last of her family, and a key to Vincents past. Will she be Vincent's savior, or his destruction. Team Avalanche, Turks, and the Shinra are all invited to join the past, present, and future.

Chapter 1 It starts here and now...

The sunlight poured through the window, warm on her face as she awoke. Sitting up in bed, her thoughts drew her away from the beautiful afternoon sky. This time she dreamt of the lifestream. This would be the start of all things. A beginning, or an end to all life as we know it. My name is Hikari Sato. It’s time for a journey, and it starts here…

It all started when I found my grandfather a few days ago, he had been shot several times. He had drug himself to the front door of the house, and was propped up against it. There were five Shinra soldiers lying around in various states of death. Grandfather had sliced them to bits. I had a Heal Materia, but he didn’t want to be healed.

Grandfather said something as he lay dying in my arms:
“You will get vengeance for our family. Your parents made sure of this. You must go to the Halcyon ruins in the Ancient Forest to get the key to your parent’s secret lab. You will find some answers there. You are the last of our family, child. This is the crest ring of the Great Sword. Your father would want you to have it. It has a special power that will come to you when it is needed… Your mother had a sword as well. Go to the observatory, Nanaki will know where the sword is. Only you and the man destined to be the other half of your soul can wield them. You were a good child, and I was so cruel to you. I’m sorry,” He started to cough, and his skin was getting pale from loss of blood. He continued, “There is a man you must see. He is an old friend. His name is Vincent Valentine. I’m sure he will help you… Remember…the… Heaven…ly Light… and…the Beast will become one. Do not let…the dark…ness…take you o…ver child.” He sucked in one last gurgling breath, squeezed my hand, and died cursing the Turks and Shinra.

It makes me sad knowing I will never see that mean old bastard any more. He is what I knew for most of my adult life, and the only family I had left. Life with him was like being between a rock, and a hard place. Grandfather was the rock, and life was the hard place. He was known as the Great Sword Sato. He used to be Turk. In his time he was one of the best.

He trained me to be a better warrior than he ever was. He was always hard on me because I wasn’t a boy. I was supposed to become a scientist, but Grandfather tried to change those plans when he became my guardian, and didn’t know about my training at the research center in town. I studied the schematics of airships, and anything I could about computers. I entered the center when I was fifteen, and I am one of the best hackers they have.

Grandfather was older, bitter, and didn’t care about life anymore. When I was eighteen, he told me that he had nothing more to teach me, and when he was dead I could do whatever I wanted with my life. He said until then, I must stay here in Cosmo Canyon, and continue my training with Sensei Nanaki. Sensei Bugenhagen encouraged my training at the research center when he was alive, and Sensei Nanaki helped to keep it secret from my grandfather.

He hated the Turks, and Shinra for killing my father. I suppose a new generation has to take over some time. Every generation will have someone younger and more powerful. Take for instance Rufus Shinra. He is much more powerful than his father ever could be. Rufus…. I know this is his doing. The Shinra and Grandfather have had it in for each other for a long time. It was inevitable that they would kill him.

Only time will tell what he meant by his cryptic words. I will find my parent’s lab and see what Grandfather meant by vengeance, and what he meant by my destiny. I must find out anything about this Heavenly Light and the Beast becoming one. How did my Grandfather know about this secret lab, and what are the secrets it contains? It starts now…
