Chapter One
Warming Up
* * * * *
In the dark skies above Midgar’s Plate, a thread of unearthly light gleamed. Tendrils of hot ultraviolet slithered and twisted as the paranormal ribbon shimmered, unfolded around a central miasma of blackness and forced out eight figures, expelling them violently against the ground in front of Shin-Ra Corp. The light and its tendrils glittered once more, then folded back in on themselves and disappeared, leaving their unwilling travelers lying on the pavement in a heap . . .
* * * * *
“Hey, move it!” BLARE!
A loud blast of a diesel truck’s air horn startled the smallest member of the collective group to his unsteady feet. “Wh . . . Where are we?” he stuttered against the cold wind, straightening his large hat.
“Come on,” the voice yelled angrily, “get outta the road! You blind or something?!” At this particular noise the others rose shakily, looking around themselves and quickly surmising their dangerous position. A figure with dark red dreadlocks lifted the tiny, pointy-hatted child into his arm, pushing against a teenager with an extremely out-of-place tail. “C’mon, let’s go! You heard the man,” he said brusquely and shoved him out of the street, onto the sidewalk. A mouse-tailed woman in crimson armor growled ferally at the giant truck, then grudgingly shooed a nearby little girl with violet hair along the path the boy had been pushed in and brandished her spear at the monstrous rig.
“Yeah, yeah, lady,” came the answering shout, “just move it along!” The driver touched the air horn again, causing the woman’s hackles to rise sharply.
“Well! Of all the impertinence . . . come along, everyone, we must make haste!” The group made their way to the side of the street and sat on the curb in eight different places, each trying to figure out how they had gotten there.
First to speak was a man wearing rusted armor. “Does anyone know precisely where we are?”
“I can’t read the signs,” the young boy whimpered from underneath his large pointy hat. “And the music is making my head hurt.” He pointed to a nearby establishment where scantily clad women lingered, one with pink spiked hair beckoning to the group. “B-but maybe they can tell us . . . ?” he inquired.
“Sure,” the teenager said encouragingly, straightening his vest and inspecting his short dagger for any signs of damage. “We’ve got nothing to lose.”

Hehe, what a riot. This is gonna set me back a few months in college, but it’s worth it . . . I have always wanted to hurt poor little Vivi. *maniacal laugh*
Vivi: Um, is it too late to leave?
VVL 69: Of course it is . . . you have a very BIG person to please in this story . . .
Vivi: I think I’ll go wash my mouth out NOW . . . oo . . .
