there is a threat looming on the horizon.
Is
everyone’s love enough to get through the hard times or will it break them apart?
A/N: I was actually writing a different story to this when I
got Crisis Core and watching how Cloud kept his identity a secret from Tifa and
how Tifa had sent Zack emails enquiring about a Blonde.
This will
have references to Crisis Core, Last Order, Final Fantasy VII and Advent
Children. I might put in reference of Dirge of Cerberus but I’m not too sure
yet.
Warning: Characters Death and underage sex.
The first five chapters contain spoilers for Crisis Core – if
you don’t want to be spoiled; then I suggest you don’t read this until you have
played the game. If you don’t mind being spoiled (It’s not a lot) then read on.
This picks up from when Zack rushes out of Shin-Ra Mako
Reactor after Sephiroth disappears and Cloud is hurt from protecting Tifa. The
sayings are a mixture of Crisis Core and Last Order.
Chapter 1: A History Talk
“No!” Zack
rushed after Genesis, trying to stop him and Sephiroth from doing something
un-repairable. He hurried out of the Shin-Ra Mako Reactor only to stop when he
saw Tifa standing in front of an infantryman who was lying on the ground
obviously hurt from where he had tried to protect the young woman from the
Genesis Copies that was hovering in front of Tifa.
Zack hurried
over in front of Tifa, unsheathing his buster as he went before he rushed
forward, attacking the creature with all his strength and experience. The
creature was a large red demonic form with a large sceptre and two look-a-likes
of Genesis.
Zack got rid
of the Genesis with quick works before he took out the demonic creature as
quick as he could, making sure it stayed away from Tifa before he slammed his
sword into the monster’s torso and used a thunder materia, finishing it off as
quick as he could.
Breathing
heavily, he watched as the creature slowly disintegrate as it hit the ground
before picking up the materia, money and any jewellery that had been left
behind before he turned around to see that Tifa was kneeling down beside the
trooper that had been knocked out trying to protect her.
Walking over
to them, he could see that she was cupping the man’s cheek, checking his pulse.
Tifa turned her head when she heard Zack move closer to them.
“He jumped
in the way, he was protecting me,” Tifa looked up at Zack who crouched down
beside the young man and nodded. He had a feeling that she was the reason why
Cloud hadn’t revealed his identity yet.
“We gotta
head back to town,” Zack straightened up. “Can you help him while I run ahead
and fight off the monsters?” Tifa nodded as she straightened up before reaching
down to help the young man up. She slung one of his arms over her shoulders
while wrapping one of her arms around his waist.
The man let
out a groan as he leaned against Tifa, heavily, as pain racked through his body.
Tifa couldn’t help her heart skipping a beat before she frowned slightly, there
was only one person her heart did that around…but it couldn’t be him, right? He
would tell her if he was back…right?
Pushing the
thoughts out of her mind, she started a slow trek down the mountains with the
young man leaning against her and Zack going ahead, keeping an eye out for any
monsters who would attack them.
After a slow
and painful walk, they finally reached the town and Tifa placed the man against
the wall so he was still propped up before she turned around to look at Zack
who was looking around the town before he looked at Tifa.
“Thanks for
helping me bring him back,” Zack told her but Tifa shook her head.
“He
protected me, it was the least I could do,” Tifa told him and Zack nodded as he
moved over to the trooper’s side.
“I’ll take
him up to the inn room,” Zack looped the man’s arm around his shoulders and
Tifa nodded.
“I’ll go and
ask around if anyone has seen Sephiroth,” Tifa ran off with Zack watching her
leave before he turned to look at Cloud’s still form once more and sighed.
“Come on,”
Zack made the slow trip over to the inn. The lady behind the counter looked up
and a worried expression crossed her face but Zack just waved her off, telling
her that he would heal the young man when they reached the room.
Zack finally
made his way into their shared room and placed Cloud on the far left bed that
was next to the window before taking his boots and mask off. He checked Cloud’s
pulse and colour before grabbing a potion and a cloth. Spilling the potion onto
the cloth, he placed it over Cloud’s wounds, causing the young man to grit his
teeth in pain as his body arched but he didn’t open his eyes once as Zack
finished cleaning up his wounds and sat on his bed, watching over the younger
man that he had come to bond with.
Cloud
groaned as he blinked his eyes opened to see the ceiling of the inn above him.
Sitting up, gingerly, he looked off to his left and found Zack was sitting on
the other bed with a pensive look on his face.
“How are you
feeling?” Zack asked, noticing Cloud was awake. Cloud looked down at his drawn
up knees.
“Stupid,”
Cloud muttered, “if I was SOLDIER, this wouldn’t have happened.” Zack just
stared at the young man before he turned his head, attracting Cloud’s
attention. “Zack?”
“Don’t go
there,” Zack warned as he lifted mako filled eyes. “It’s full of monsters and
nothing good.” Cloud’s brows furrowed slightly when Zack changed the
conversation, curious to what was going on with Cloud and Tifa. “So, you know
Tifa, right?” Zack asked. Cloud looked at him with emotionless blue eyes before
he looked away.
“Not well,”
Cloud whispered. Zack continued to look at Cloud before he sighed.
“Do you want
to tell me what’s going on with the two of you?” Zack asked, eliciting a confused
look from the younger man. “Tifa enquired about SOLDIERs, wondering if there
were more of us and her confusion when I told her that it was a small elite
group then there’s the e-mail of her enquiring a blonde SOLIDER, I don’t know
about you but I don’t know any blonde that had made SOLIDER…yet. Then of course
there is you, hiding your identity from her and the way you reacted when
Sephiroth said we were coming here,” Cloud just stared at Zack, “I’m not an
idiot Cloud, I can tell when something is up and I know it has something to do
with you.”
Cloud closed
his eyes and looked away before sighing.
“Tifa and I
were neighbours. I didn’t talk to her a lot because she is a social butterfly,
I’m more of a loner,” Cloud started, Zack’s interest peaked as a faint smile
crossed Cloud’s face. “I’ve always been attracted to her, it was her fire and
her determination whenever she wanted to do something and she would do it even
if people were standing in her way, blocking her,” Zack chuckled as he
remembered Tifa wanting to go into the Mako Reactor despite his and Sephiroth’s
warnings.
Cloud tilted
his head back to look up at the ceiling, lost in his thoughts.
“When I
signed up for SOLDIERs, I told Tifa to meet me at the water tower. She came and
I told her about my dreams and she made me promise that if she was ever in
danger, I would save her. To give her the chance of what it was like to have a
white knight. I promised her but I also told her that I wouldn’t come back till
I was a 1st class SOLIDER,” Cloud bowed his head. Understanding
dawned on Zack and he sighed.
“And because
you bragged about becoming such a hot shot that you feel you failed her,” Zack
summarised. Cloud looked at Zack, shocked that Zack had pinpointed his feelings
to one short sentence.
“Yeah,”
Cloud confirmed and Zack shook his head, amused.
“You know, I
don’t think she would care,” Zack told him. Cloud looked at him, curious. “If
you just let Tifa know it’s you, I think you’d be surprised by her reaction.”
Cloud shook his head.
“I can’t…”
Cloud trailed off. Zack just watched him for a short moment before nodding,
letting it go as he stood up, stretching before walking over to the painting of
the young girl he had seen before.
He took a
look at the picture only for his blue eyes to widen before he turned back to
look at Cloud.
“Wasn’t
there a girl in this picture?” Zack pointed to the painting behind him. Cloud
looked at the painting before looking at Zack like he had grown another head.
“The girl is
in the painting,” Cloud told him. Zack frowned as he turned only to see the sad
girl in the painting. Standing back, he scratched his head before shaking it
and headed out of the room.
Cloud just
watched Zack leave before he turned to look at the painting and smirked when he
saw the girl had left the painting once more before shaking his head.
“Only one of
the seventh wonder,” Cloud murmured to himself before he lay back down on the
bed.

I hope I got the talk between the boys down to a pat, I
always thought this was something they would do. (By the way, to the people who
have not played the game but continued reading – the mysterious girl is really
in the game!)
