“So this is it, huh?” He said out loud as he guarded against the beasts before him. “This is how you think it’s going to end? HUH?!” He called out to the stars above him. Not sure who he was yelling at but he knew he wasn’t alone.
Monsters soon gathered around him. Growling and drooling as they got closer. Within seconds, the small beasts were attacking him. He felt their teeth sinking into his exposed flesh but he couldn’t focus on that. He had to defeat them.
With one swing, he did just that. He knocked them into oblivion and cheered at his win. He took that small window of opportunity to run for cover. He darted across the beach, stumbling as the sand swallowed his feet.
He slid into his house, grabbing the table to catch himself from falling on the slippery wooden floors. “Fuck.” He said quietly as he regained his balance and ran to his bedroom. Locking the door behind him and moving whatever heavy furniture he could to barricade himself inside the room.
The growing sounds of invading monsters filled the air outside. He slowly walked to the window that was beside his bed and looked outside. Monster after monster was appearing along the shore. He stood in silence as he tried to think of a way he could escape without fighting them all. He knew he wouldn’t survive if he tried to. There were too many.
His body soon became heavy and exhausted from all the magic he had to summon earlier and the chaos was sucking whatever life he had left out of him. He needed to rest so he double checked his surroundings and, once he felt it to be secure, he took off his now torn jacket and collapsed on his bed.
Within seconds, he was falling asleep to the sounds of the crashing waves along the beach and the growls of the beasts as they wandered their new homeland.
Snow was slowly waking up, feeling the warmth of the sun shining through the window beside him. He sat up and looked outside to be surprised by how bright and sunny it was outside. The complete opposite of the conditions he fell asleep to.
He stood up and walked to his closet to grab another jacket. His old trench coat. He smiled as he slid his hand across the soft and well used fabric. He took it off the hanger and put it on. It felt right. In his pocket was his old black bandana he had long forgotten about.
As he unfolded it, the crystal heart Hope gave to him rolled out. Hitting the ground and making a loud thump. He completely forgot he even had it. He didn’t know why he still had it, either. He picked it up and ran his thumb across the smooth surface. Wiping away any debris that had gathered over its time in his pocket.
Something told him to hang onto it. He wasn’t sure why but he had to. He walked into his connected bathroom and ran it under the faucet. The cool water felt refreshing against his skin. As the water cleaned the crystal, it revealed its unique coloring. A mixture of a light blue, pink and white. It was beautiful. The sight filled him with hope and strength that he had almost lost the night before. It reminded him of his friends. Knowing that they were safe made him smile.
He sat it down on the vanity as he looked at himself in the mirror. He was covered in dirt and dried
blood. He took the time to clean off his face and fix his hair as he pulled the bandana over his head.
“Just like old times…” He said to himself as he gently wrapped the crystal heart in a discarded piece of fabric he found laying on the floor and placed it in his inside pocket. He zipped it up to ensure its safety and turned off the light, exiting the bathroom and returning to the window.
The monsters were gone. The cloud of chaos was gone. Why? Where did they go?
He shook his head bringing himself back to the situation at hand and carefully opened the window. He slowly climbed out, hoping not to alert any possible foe nearby.
He took a few steps toward the beach and realized it was empty. Nothing was there. Just him.
It was then that he decided he was going to leave New Bodhum for good. He had to find a way back to Academia and, being the determined hero that he was, he wasn’t going to give him.
His journey had begun as he took his final step before crossing over to the wooded forest that
surrounded his once full of life village. He took one final look at the land he once called home and, with one deep breath, he turned. Never to look back again.
It had been two weeks since he left New Bodhum behind. He became a sort of drifter. Never staying in one place for too long.
During his most recent stay in a small town, he met a woman named Pima. She was an older woman but she knew her way around magic. She had also had visions of Snow and his arrival to their small town. She knew he wasn’t a danger so she decided to help him.
“I can help you return to your friends but,” Her raspy voice trailed off as she began to make a list. “You’ll need to find these items first.” She handed him the list and turned away.
“Wait,” He said as he quickly glanced over it. “Some of these items are extremely difficult to get. A
sinister fang?” His voice raised an octave.
“Boy, do you want to be reunited with your friends? Hm?” She said as she violently poked his muscular peck.
“I do but…” He replied as he closed his eyes and sighed.
“No buts!!” She yelled as she left the room. Leaving him to sulk alone.
“Fuck me. I don’t know how much more I can take.” He said to himself as he stood to exit the dark room but he knew he had to try.
He gathered his fighting equipment and headed toward the field where Reaver’s were known to
frequent. Preparing himself for a battle he dreaded, he snuck up behind the otherwise preoccupied
beast and readied his weapon.
The Reaver turned and roared so loudly that it shook the earth around them. The stench of its rancid breath burned Snow’s nostrils. He exhaled heavily and tried to hold back the vomit he felt rising in his stomach. He swung his weapon and hit the beast in the face which only pissed it off more. Causing it to lunge toward him aggressively.
Their battle went on for quite some time before Snow finally defeated it. It let out one final howl as it fell to his feet. Covered in a mixture of sweat and blood, he clenched his jaw and closed his eyes as he reached into the mouth of the dead monster and ripped out its fang. Grasping it tightly, he turned and limped away from the battle ground.
He returned to the Pima’s hut, ready to hand over the item. He collapsed in the chair across from her and smiled as he handed it to her.
“There. There’s the fang you wanted.” He flashed her his infamous grin.
“Good. Good. Only halfway there.” She said as she gleefully accepted the trophy.
“About that, I sort of got…goo all over the paper you gave me earlier.” He admitted shamefully.
She sighed harshly, clearly frustrated by him. She reached for her leather binder and aggressively flipped through the worn, hand written pages to locate the next item he needed.
“Here. You need this.” She slammed the book down in front of him, revealing the next item.
“…a single eye?” He asked as he raised his eyebrow. “From a cyclops?” He sighed and hung his head.
“Oh, hush. Get.” She dismissed his exhaustion and pointed him in the direction of the only known
Cyclops to have been seen in the area.
As he arrived, he took note of his surroundings. It was actually a beautiful scene. It reminded him of Sunleth Waterscape. The trees had glowing bulbs of light hanging from fragile branches. The grass surrounding the base of the trees had dozens of tiny glowing mushrooms absorbing the night air.
There was a glittering river deeper within the forest. The water was crystal clear and calm. He was lost in the beauty of the scene before him.
The silence was broken when he heard a small tree fall. He quickly took cover as he watched the beast bend over to get a drink from the river. He noticed that it stopped dead in its tracks and turned to where Snow hid. It sniffed the air and growled, slowly making its way to him. He gulped as he prepared for battle.
This beast was stronger than the Reaver he had just defeated only a few hours before but he soon
recognized its weakness and used that to his benefit.
Their battle was well met and touch and go for a moment but Snow threw his blizzard infused weapon at the beast, causing it to fall in defeat. Again, he found himself mentally preparing to remove yet another item from a beast’s head. He hated this part but he knew he had to do it. He had to go home.
I wrapped the eye in fabric he had packed away in his bag and placed it inside. He couldn’t bring himself to travel anymore, though. He was done for the day.
He walked around, looking for a safe place to rest when he found himself standing before a boulder. One that looked similar to the boulder he laid upon so long ago with Lightning. It brought a smile to his face as he happily approached it. It wasn’t the same one but the memories he almost forgot came flooding back. Filling him with warmth and excitement.
He plopped on the rock and laughed. Sliding his arm under his head, he stared at the clear sky above him.
“Light…” he spoke as if she were there. His voice was soft and gentle. “I miss you. Where are you? I…don’t know what to do. Every turn I have taken lately had proven to lead to a dead end. I need you to help me. I need you.” He sighed as he turned his head to the side, now looking at the glowing objects of nature that surrounded him.
A gust of wind blew passed him, he closed his eyes and enjoyed the breeze as the he heard the water around him meet it as well.
‘Use the crystal heart…’ A faint whisper filled his ear. He sat up quickly to locate the source. There was nothing there with him. He patted his jacket pocket to find the crystal that he had almost forgotten even existed...again.
His hand met the lump in his pocket as he pulled it out and unwrapped it.
“Use the crystal heart?” He asked himself as he thumbed the surface of it. “How? It’s just a crystal.” He asked nobody.
He stopped to think about the voice he heard. It was…Lightning. She was there with him but…barely. Concern filled his heart. He hasn’t been shown any sign of her in so long that he wasn’t even sure if she was actually alive but, if he was being honest with himself, was he ever sure she was actually alive to begin with?
He stared into the heart he held in his hand. His feelings for her were clouding his mind. He was mad at her for disappearing and never coming to him after Serah’s…after she left. He had so many questions for her but, even then, he just missed her. He missed her low and sexy voice. He missed her beautiful strong eyes. He missed her shy and well hidden smile. He missed…her touch. Her kiss. Her natural sweet scent.
The crystal began to glow. He gasped as the light within his hand grew warmer.
Electricity pulsed through his entire body as a white, blinding hole began to form in the water before him. As his eyes focused, he could see it. Academia was just beyond the portal. Finally. He was going home.
He stood up and, leaving his bag behind, he ran into it. Smiling as he did, he clenched tightly around the crystal and placed a gentle kiss on it. “Thank you, Light.” He whispered as he felt his body turn into a tingling mess.
