"Breakfast!" Called the cabin boy at 5 am. Unaware the room being used by the two guards was empty, he got quite a shock when he rounded the corner and saw a tall figure, dressed like he's out of a BDMS movie walking towards him. "You're up?"
"For two hours now. What do you need?" Asked Squall, crossing his arms due to not liking the assessing eye the kid is giving him. Can 12 year olds sense sexual activity having taken place?
"Nothing, mister, just that breakfast is set. I knocked on your door a moment ago." Looking over his shoulder, he then asked when his gaze met Squall's. "Is your friend still inside?
"No. He's on deck. I'll tell him."
"It's my duty. I'm gonna do it." He gave a naval salute then bolted.
Squall's expression was perplexed but it faded quickly. If it's the kid's job, it's his job. 'Didn't he call me "mister"? I don't look that old.' He rolled his eyes at the either rude or overly polite way of being addressed. He would never understand children.
After sweeping the hall one last time, he moved to The Mess to have breakfast with the others.
It was strange, he thought when he'd woken up in Irvine's arms two hours ago. Waking up in Irvine's arms felt so natural. It was.. pleasing. Maybe even more than what they'd done before falling asleep. Well, maybe by a hairs difference. Squall put down the corners of his mouth that were turning up into a smile. 'Great, a joy haunting.' He sighed. 'At least it's just a smile on the rise.' He couldn't imagine having to battle a haunting erection. He'd throw himself overboard if that were to happen.
His worries were unnecessary because he couldn't even see Irvine during breakfast. By the time the sniper came in each seat beside him was taken by a crewman. His boyfriend is five chairs down, and to make it worse it's beside him instead of across. What rotten luck. They'd already survived the waking up next to each other after the first BIG experience of sexual exploration. For Squall it had been strangely acceptable. Had it been him and Seifer, he couldn't imagine it. He'd be a bit embarrassed, Seifer would pick up on it and say something stupid. He'd spend the day wanting to punch him out. And with Zell... Well... He can't envision the martial artist having sex. Not with a guy anyway, only because he seemed to show an interest in Selphie's little tale of summer bonding at Trabia Garden.
If Zell was gay, he'd likely have constant fits of upset from his lovers assuming his height puts him on the bottom.
'Hyne. I didn't realize how easily the brain can switch gears with sexuality.' He thought absently. 'I actually considered myself as asexual. I had no want or need for anyone... What's the purpose? But, if relationships were an inevitable thing, having a girlfriend is just what exists, not many people consider option B of same sex.'
But it would seem that once the side was picked the door stayed open to desire, where once none existed. It was hard to get used to, because even now he wants some type of contact with Irvine. And occasional peeks of his hand when he reached for something on his plate, or the sound of his chipper voice as he makes small talk with the crew were not enough. This was seriously bad for his mental health. Hopelessly itching for contact.
When his boyfriend finished his meal and rose, Squall got up from his seat as well.
Irvine smiled brighter than the sun, before he announced. "Hey! I wondered where you were." Falling into step, he says privately through a whisper. "Next time we stall for each other, okay?"
Squall nodded. He felt that pool inside of himself filling up.
"I never lobster in eggs before. They sure eat a lot of sea food." Irvine decreed. He looked as though he just had a mental face-palm, as he realized, duh, they are on a ship. Catch and eat is cheaper than buying a ton of food to store.
"Anything suspicious?" Squall asked.
"Nope. You?"
"Nothing."
"Maybe this shipment isn't so important. Hey," he lowered his voice and continued to speak exclusively even once they entered the empty hall. "If this becomes a good gig for the two of us, can you imagine it? We could have all the privacy from others that we can stand, because we're miles away out at sea."
"What about the crew?"
Irvine waved them off. "They're clueless."
It did sound like an interesting situation. But, unlikely. They get hired for where and when needed. There is no sole job.
"I am curious where we're going." Squall headed for their room to use the bathroom.
"Captain says Winhill."
'That far?' Now he was even more curious as to what the ship is carrying.
As if having read his mind, Irvine continued. "We're shipping Adamantine."
"I see why they need us."
An item of metal that rare was easier stolen than tracked down. No wonder the shipment accounts on their contract briefing was all over the place, from food to foliage. The thieves didn't know which ships would be toting their prize. They have about a day and a half until they arrived to the area. They needed to remain on high alert.
At Balamb Garden.
"Instructor Trepe?"
Quistis resisted the urge to groan out loud. It's been nearly a year, but cadets still address her as 'Instructor'. 'Things became hectic very quickly after I was let go, perhaps I should be more understanding that not many students know. Cid was absent from Garden while helping his wife get things back into order.' Adjusting her stance to face the young man, she smiled politely. "Cadet Sergeant, I should first inform you that I'm no longer an instructor, you can just call me cadet Trepe, or Quistis."
Ferris blanched. That was too informal. "Uhh.. Cadet Trepe.." Geez, that was hard. "Do you know where Cadet Leonhart is?"
"Yes. Why? Is there something you need him for?"
"We were gonna train, ma'am.. I mean.." He panicked for the correct polite terms as he knows the lovely former instructor to be not much older than he is.
"That's very unlike Squall, training with anyone other than close friends.. unless instructed to in class. But, he's currently on a mission."
"Really? Wish I'd known that, I cleared my whole schedule." He looked around then blushed when he realized he's in the female dorms wing. "I uh, better get going then."
"Okay." Quistis watched the skittish younger teen's departure with amazement. She didn't think such male species still existed. Every cadet has an overly inflated ego, as well as a strong belief they were sent from Hyne to be women's treasure. Shaking off the encounter, she knocked on the door to the dormitory she'd planned to enter before she was interrupted.
Somewhere between Balamb and Humphry Archipelago, Winhill.
Squall stopped his patrolling of the lower level of the ship to check his watch. Almost one pm. The cabin boy will likely be in search of him to announce lunch. Taking the initiative, he headed for the deck where Irvine is stationed. He won't be made to sit beside strangers this time. He felt alright about leaving his duty, the hold was secure. And if anything fishy was going on, where would the thief go without being caught? The guard in the crow's nest would spot an approaching ship, and they'd come to aid mid-swallow.
"Irvine? Stay beside me on the way to lunch." He muttered when standing side by side with his boyfriend along the side of the ship deck.
"About that, I was wondering if maybe you had anything back in our cabin to eat?" He glanced at Squall from the side of his eye. Trying not to be obvious to anyone but Squall about his intentions.
"Yeah. Some protein bars."
Irvine then asked. "Enough for two?"
Squall gave a single nod.
"Good.. good, 'cause, I ate such a large breakfast..I'm not even really that hungry."
Again, Squall gave a nod.
"I'm gonna head in first, meet you there?"
"Yeah."
Irvine stepped away from him, walking casually to their cabin. And a few minutes after Squall joined him, unaware of the watching cabin boys. One made a vulgar gesture by jamming his index into a hole made by his other fingers, the other boy nodded then they both shared a laugh. But, they could be wrong.
The first penetration, the first point of entrance into Irvine's body, was through the lips with his tongue. So soft, warm, and divine was the reply that met it from the sniper using his own expertise to greet his steadily growing skills. A guest helping the host, so to speak. Squall reveled in the ecstatic trail of pleasure rippling up and down his spine. Irvine has one arm wrapped around his waist and the other is using a firm hand to play a game of baseball on his crotch. The slender players circled the mound, the nest batter teased his lack of readiness by taking some swings. Very convulsion-of-the-body inducing jerking "swings". And at the pitch of Squall's moan, Irvine kneads his palm around and around. Irvine was not without his satisfaction, having Squall on his lap, his shifting bucking and rolling hips doing a dance about his exposed flesh were enough to have him speaking in tongues, if one were to talk during such activities. Thankfully pleasure was universal language no matter the dialect, you can ask and receive more, more, MORE.
And he got more, once his hand stopped it's lazy circling of the soft mounds and strove up the hardened trail to the peak then back down on repeat again and again. Squall was like a strong quicksand on his lap. It was heavenly. Swoosh and sweeping grind of clothing against flesh. And as the sun blinded their entrance through the golden gates, the pair kissed sweetly, as if all they had been doing was saying good night after a week of dating. Just little pecks, now and then a little longer. It was the best 15 minutes of making up for not getting to be around each other for a meal. This could get dangerous. Being so very distracted in the newness of sensations and company.
Righting his jeans, Squall got up from the human-chair. "The bars are in my bag."
Irvine, still at a verbal flustered, gave a thumbs up.
Squall went into the bathroom, he doesn't have to go, he's simply using it as a hiding place and to clean up. A convenient scapegoat. Not from Irvine, but from himself. He's never felt such strong emotions before, it was kind of embarrassing. Standing around in the seclusion, he looked in the mirror to make sure there were no visible marks anywhere but on his soul. The mirror reflected that he was in the clear, despite the generous suckling and kisses that Irvine gave his neck at one point in the make out. It then dawned on him there was something in his bag that Irvine shouldn't see! At least not when he's suddenly become this raw with feelings of sexual and sensual delights.
"I can't believe you brought this," Irvine was saying.
Squall yanked open the door, quickly saying. "I wasn't expecting anything. We don't have to."
"Good,"
'Good?'
Finishing what he was saying, having not been cut off. "'cause I didn't bring my cards. I mean, unless you wanna play for fun by splitting you deck in half."
Squall could have been spread on toast he melted so thoroughly from relief. 'He found the Triad game board, not the condoms. Calm down, Leonhart, you're gonna have a heart attack.' He cursed himself, though not for buying them, but for bringing them. But, to be fair, he didn't know how far he and Irvine would go. He was banking on his own escalated need to see his boyfriend after being apart for a couple months. Irvine might not be ready. He already told him at the hotel he doesn't readily sleep with woman. But what about men? Do the same rules apply?
"We can split them."
"Great. We can play before bed," he stepped aside letting Squall through when the owner reached for his bag.
Squall extracted their soldier's lunch from his bag, further hiding the condoms inside while Irvine cleaned up. He then handed boyfriend a Booster drink and protein bar.
"Y'know, seeing how we're going," Irvine took a sip of his drink. "it's probably lucky we're not in the same Garden anymore. I can't be discreet if I'm always coming to get you."
"Maybe we'd get lucky and share a dorm."
"SeeDs get single rooms."
"Same space. We could be across from each other."
"Is that that lion spirit, coming out? You like living dangerously."
'Not really. It'd be nice.' Because if he lived more dangerously, he wouldn't care who knew about his relationship with Irvine. Their friends would just have to deal with it, if it was a problem.
Bunching up the wrapper, Irvine stuffed it into his pocket. "Well, I'm off."
Squall wasn't too far behind him with finishing his lunch. He remembered the waste bin in the bathroom and took his trash in there to toss out, after swiping the wrapper from Irvine's pocket.
"Wait." Irvine asked when Squall passed him to exit the room, he took his boyfriend by the elbow and gave him a peck on the lips when he turned to face him. "Something to tide me over."
Squall scoffed. "Get your head in the game, Kinneas."
"It's in one kind of game." He teased, playfully he popped Squall on the gut, which received an eye roll and head shake.
The pair went their separate ways and continued patrolling the ship.
In Balamb Garden.
"There you are," Quistis walked down the stairs into the Quad towards Selphie, whom she's been searching for since earlier this morning. "You're reading?"
"Huh? Oh, hey." She returned her attention to her book.
"Is that all, "oh, hey"? Selphie, you've been asked to go on a mission and I couldn't find you. Headmaster couldn't find you. And you've been here, reading."
"Guess so, cause here I am."
"Well, get up and head to the headmaster's office for your assignment."
"Right away, instructor." She popped up to her feet, then gave the former instructor a salute.
Quistis snickered, but then it faded as she recalled what happened earlier. "You know, it's strange, a cadet called me instructor earlier. But, that's not the weird part," she followed along towards the exit with Selphie. "He was looking for Squall."
"Squall? People do that?" Selphie half joked. It was unusual for anyone to seek out the testy-towards-casual-human-interactions teen. Squall was A list emo without the goth part.
"Seems so, because he said they were supposed to train together."
And that made Selphie laugh out loud. "With Squall?! Stalker alert!" She declared. "No one outside of Seifer trains with Squall, he's an elite gunblade user. Why downgrade? He can't miss Seifer that much that anyone would do."
Quistis had to agree with that. Although 'stalker' seemed a bit harsh.
"Did you tell him?" Asked the Trabian girl.
"Squall is on a mission with Irvine, the cadet's out of luck."
Ferris felt ill. Quistis Trepe lied. She said Squall was on a mission, not a joint one, and certainly not one with that idiot cowboy, Irvine. He stepped from behind the tree where he'd hidden himself, he wanted to make sure the former instructor hadn't lied, and would track down Squall and warn him away from their hanging out. But, she lied far worse than of his whereabouts. This angering situation of what he'd seen in the garage was escalating, and soon he felt he would explode.

"Land ho!" Cried the man in the crow's nest. "Laaaand hhoooo!"
'That guy's voice is loud.' Thought Squall, after having stopped dead in his tracks by the sudden voice. 'Guess that's why they picked him to sit in the nest.' He resumed his walk then stopped once again. "Can I help you?" He asked a dark figure disappearing around a corner. 'Dammit. Nobody's supposed to be down here.'
He charged down the hall towards the intruder. The darkness moved quickly among the boxes and crates. It was almost ghostly. Squall decided to become the same, silently pursuing the figure.
It finally ceased its movement when it ran out of room. Squall removed a flashlight from his pocket, shining the beam at the man, who squinted in the artificial light.
"What are you doing down here?" Squall asked a man he only knew by glance. He'd seen him in the kitchen helping the chef, meaning he's the sous.
The man shrugged his bulky shoulders in a round about way. "Just taking a cigarette break."
"Right."
"Come on, what would you know? You're just a kid, man needs his fix."
"In the cargo area? Not likely."
The sous smirked. "Are you gonna march me out of here, with your weapon drawn, and permanent scowl making me flinch?" His smirk became a grin. "The space is too small to draw that big ass sword thing of yours."
Squall sported a smirk of his own, as he removed the blade and aimed the revolver. "Break's over. If your reason for being down here is legit, you can take it up with the captain. But, until I'm told otherwise, move." The gun barrel flicked twice to the left behind him towards the exit.
"Alright. I'll go." He lumbered by, followed closely by his "arresting officer". Removing a walkie, he spoke into it. "Irvine. Cargo. Now."
"On it." Replied Irvine.
"You're really making too much out of this." The sous commented. "What could possibly happen to the shipment, we're still pretty far out from land, the crow-man just announces that despite being at least a couple more hours away."
"Keep walking."
"If you say so."
The door to the cargo area opened, shining light in from the hall. Irvine stepped inside, watching the man exit past him along with Squall at the tail.
"Check the shipment, in case he moved something or opened one."
"Roger." Irvine noted that the sous chef was looking rather smug while they exchanged words. He was definitely going to check out the area.
"That would be a big mistake."
"And why's that?" Squall asked.
"Just a hunch."
The sound that followed his words was akin to an entire building being leveled. The ship rocked and swayed as it began to fill with water!
"Irvine!?" Squall called out. He was about to turn around and check on him, but the sous chef was getting away! "Shit." He rushed forward grabbing the man by his shirt collar, he spun him around, then slugged him with all he had knocking him out cold. He hurried through the entrance to the cargo and knelt beside his boyfriend.
Irvine groaned, having been slammed into the wall by the blast.
Squall assessed him with his eyes, he was just about to use Cure when the spell glowed and circled around Irvine's body. "Are you all right?"
"Nothing a cure and a free punch couldn't fix." He groaned again as he was helped to his feet. "My ears are ringing, luckily the blast wasn't that big." He rubbed his left ear. "Where is he?"
"Passed out." Squall nodded over his shoulder. "You've gotta get him to the deck, the ship is sinking."
"And what will you be doing, drowning with it?" Irvine shook his head; he feels better now that the healing spell has finished its circulation. "No, sir, you're coming too."
"I'll be right there, I'm just gonna make sure nothing's going on..."
His words paused and he held up a finger. They listened to the sound of machinery and knew what was happening. Whomever the sous was working with, or for, was now taking the shipment of Adamantine from the hole created by the blast! Entering the large hold directly, they were met with waist high water, and large metal pincers across the room. The thieves were attacking by submarine, the crates were nothing but a grab-n-go at this point because all the crew would be on deck and getting into lifeboats.
"Switch your junction to absorb thunder. Can you?" Squall asked.
Irvine was already doing so.
Squall conjured a Thundaga spell electrocuting not just the water but the metal pirates as well. A less explosive burst rocked the sinking ship as the crates holding the prized metal were dropped, and sank to the broken floorboards. This was a disaster! What the hell were they gonna do about the shipment?! The whole point of being security was to keep it secured.
"What are you doing?" Squall wondered when spotting Irvine dive into the water.
"They gotta be unconscious inside those submarines, I say we move them out of the way and man the things," he swam out towards the hole. "it's our one shot to save the shipment."
He glanced to where the sous chef was likely recovering, and decided to screw him. Not like he could hide anywhere. Following Irvine into the water, he took a deep breath and swam beneath the rising water.
...
The captain punched the sous chef in the mouth. "Lousy bastard! I did this as a favor to your sister, and you repay me like this?" He grabbed him up by the rope that's got him bound and faced him down. "Well... why'd you do it?"
"A better days pay. I've got dreams too captain, and it's not slice and drop." He looked at the crewmen. "Who among you has gotten rich hauling shit across the ocean?"
"Fisherman's said they'd send out the coast guards to bring them all in." Squall reported.
He and Irvine truly accomplished the greatest feet ever pulled off, it was not easy getting the hatch doors open when they were underwater. And the subs were nearly water-logged while they slipped in. But they secured the two crates, the food supply and other goods were lost at the bottom of the ocean, or near enough to it, by now. It was a mission accomplished, as the men from Winhill were coming out to meet them at the shore. However, because the sinking ship, it looked as though they were going to be stranded in the area for a little bit.
Although, there were worse situations one could be stuck. If Squall could say so.
