    Chapter 13

Squall sat up and threw the shirt from his hands, when Quistis suddenly opened the door and came inside. She received an angry glare from the brunette boy. "Don't you ever knock!?" Squall spat and watched as the blonde girl sat right next to him.

"Well, knock, knock!" Quistis rolled her eyes, but got serious. "Squall, what was he doing here?!" she exclaimed, her eyes wide. Squall lowered his face and started to fiddle with the hem of his shirt.

"Who?" he asked, even if he knew what Quistis was talking about.

"Seifer Almasy! I mean, he is one of the guys who always torment you, isn't he?" The girl gave Squall no chance to answer her question. "I know he is. Why was he here? D-did he hurt you?!"

Squall shook his head and finally raised his face. "No! He--he's not like that anymore..." Quistis narrowed her blue eyes, not quite sure if she should believe what her little brother was telling her. "Seifer is my friend now. He isn't one of them anymore." the brunette boy explained. A frown spread to Squall's face as he watched Quistis move closer and take his hand.

"Squall... I know you probably don't-" she began, but was stopped by Squall. He pulled his hand away and gave his sister an angry glare.

"You don't know anything! I'm telling you, we're friends now!"

Quistis watched her little brother with confusion written all over her face. 'Why does Squall defend him? Doesn't he remember all the times he would come crying into my room and tell me how those guys make his life a living hell?' Quistis blinked her eyes and noted the frown on Squall's face.

"He is my friend, Quistis." the boy repeated, looking determined. Quistis didn't know what to think. She realised Squall was being serious, but also remembered all the times her brother had come home and cursed Seifer Almasy to hell, among the other bullies. The room was silent for a long time. Squall kept his gaze on the floor, a stony look on his face. Finally Quistis let out a sigh and broke the silence.

"Squall,I believe you when you say he's your friend... But I also think Seifer isn't--ah, how should I say this..."

"You think I'm too good for him?" Squall asked, his voice firm. Quistis blinked her eyes and shifted on the bed.

"Well, I just--don't think you guys would get along. You're too different." she explained. Squall stood up from the bed. Quistis' words made him think. Squall couldn't just ignore the fact that he and Seifer had had quite a rocky start. But he also realized he didn't care anymore. He crossed his arms over his chest and gave his sister a determined look.

"Well, you're wrong! We get along just fine!" the boy disagreed. "Besides, opposites attract each other." he noted. Quistis stood up as well and sighed. She brought her hand on Squall's shoulder, but it wasn't allowed to stay there for long. Squall turned his back at Quistis and refused to meet her eyes.

"Squall... I seriously doubt that. He's a spoiled rich kid from Hilltop Valley! He's older than you, plays football and probably uses his free time chasing cheerleaders and partying with those idiot friends of his!" the girl went on, not seeing the angry look on Squall's face.

'You're so wrong...' the brunette boy thought in his mind, balling his fists as the anger inside him kept rising.

"I know you, Squall, and I'm telling you that Seifer isn't good company for you..." Quistis continued and watched as Squall finally turned around. She was taken aback when she saw the anger in her brother's eyes.

"You don't even know him! How can you say that!?" the brunette boy hissed through gritted teeth. Quistis parted her lips, but for a moment, didn't know what to say.

"I--uh... Well, the guy had a black eye, so I'm sure-"

"Quistis, I gave him the black eye." Squall interrupted and finally managed to silence the girl. Quistis blinked her eyes in disbelief. She raised her eyebrows when she realized what Squall had just said.

    "Y-you?"

Squall gave her a nod and sat down on the bed. Quistis kept staring, having a hard time believing what she'd just heard. "It's a long story..." Squall spoke with a low voice. "Quistis, can't you just this once take my word and believe me when I say Seifer really is my friend, and stop worrying about him having a bad influence on me?" Quistis watched her brother with narrowed eyes. The look on Squall's face made her realize the boy was being serious, and finally, reluctantly let go of her doubts. She sat down on the bed and met Squall's eyes.

"Okay... But I just hope this doesn't end badly..." the blonde girl spoke, still looking a bit worried. She knew she was maybe a bit over protective sometimes, but she also had good reasons, considering Squall's past. Quistis forced herself to forget about all the times Squall had cried on her shoulder, and just decided to trust her brother. She gave Squall a soft smile and got up from the bed.

"Thanks, Quis." The brunette boy returned the smile and met his sister's eyes. Quistis gave him a nod and walked to the door. Before she left the room, she turned around, the look on her face somewhat ashamed.

"Squall! I--I kinda--uh, well, I think I was a bit rude to Seifer earlier, so, could you apologise for me?" Quistis stammered, a faint blush spreading to her cheeks. Squall narrowed his eyes, but the look on his face soon grew soft. He gave the girl a nod. Quistis sighed in relief and was glad Squall wasn't mad at her. "Well, I'll go make us something to eat, before dad gets home." She said and left the room.

Squall lay on his bed and glanced at the alarm clock on his nightstand. It was a little past eight. 'He said he'd call...' Squall sighed and fixed his eyes on the phone. It looked like he was trying to make the phone ring with his intense gazing. Squall jumped a little when his staring finally worked, and the phone actually rang.

"I'll get it!" he informed and bounced up from the bed to pick up the ringing phone. "Hello!" Squall answered, sounding maybe a bit too excited. The look on his face, ver, ver, changed into a frown when he heard Zell's voice greet him in the other end. "Oh, it's you..."

"Well, I'm glad I called! I mean could you sound any more apathetic?!" Zell exclaimed, offended by Squall's tone of voice.

"Zell, listen, I-I can't talk to you now. I'm waiting for a call." Squall explained, wanting to get Zell off the line already.

"What? You? Waiting for a call? From who? You have a fan club nowadays?" Zell asked with a mocking voice.

Squjustjust sighed and prepared to end the call. "Okay, bye now!" he said and put the phone down, not giving Zell a chance to say anything back. When the phone immediately rang again, Squall rolled his eyes, looking annoyed. He groaned and once again, answered the phone. "I thought I told you, I can't talk to you, so thank you and good night!" Squall shouted.

"Hey! Wait! Don't hang up, Squall!" a voice called from the other end. The brunette boy swallowed as he realized it wasn't Zell, but Seifer who he was talking with. Squall blinked his eyes, suddenly unable to make a single word come out.

"Squall? You there?" Seifer asked, sounding confused. Squall sat down on the floor and gave a nod, then realized Seifer couldn't see that.

"I-I, yes I'm here." he stammered. "Sorry about that. I thought you were Zell..."he explained.

"I see..." Seifer laughed. "So, do you have any plans for the rest of the night?" the blonde asked. Squall felt his heart race in his chest as he realized Seifer was gonna ask him out.

"No, nothing!" the younger boy answered, once again sounding a bit too excited, this causing Seifer to smile in the other end.

"Well, what do you say if I pick you up, let say in 10 minutes?" the blonde asked. "Or is that too soon?"

"No, no! That's fine. I'll be ready." Squall agreed and stood up from the floor.

"Good. I'll see you." Seifer said and ended the call.

"Bye" Squall whispered and quickly put the phone down. He ran to the bathroom and eyed himself from the mirror. He was satisfied with his clothes, but still, a frown spread to his face. 'Ah... My hair's a mess!' He picked up a comb from a glass jar and started to disentangle his long strands. 'I wonder where he's taking me?' Whe When Squall was finally satisfied with his appearance, he smiled at his reflection and left the bathroom.

"Hey, Squall, what's the rush?" Quistis exclaimed when the boy bumped into her on his way downstairs. "There's no need to run!" she noted, and followed her little brother.

"I'm going out." Squall answered from the hall as he put his shoes on. Quistis came after him, out to the porch, looking confused.

"This late? With who?" she asked, as she stood in the doorway.

"With Seifer. Besides, it's Friday, it's not a school night." Squall answered and ran across the yard as he heard the sound of Seifer's Porsche approaching. Quistis blinked her eyes, the look on her face dumbfounded. She opened her mouth and was about to argue with Squall, but remembered what she had promised earlier.

'I guess I'll just have to trust this Seifer guy...' she sighed and watched her little brother get inside the red car. "Okay, have fun!" Quistis called from the porch and waved with her hand, then went inside.

Squall sat down on the passenger seat and closed the door. He met Seifer's eyes and gave him a shy smile. "Hi..."

"Yo." Seifer answered with a smile on his lips. He turned in his seat and hesitantly leaned closer. Squall however didn't notice this and turned his face as he reached for the seatbelt. Seifer waited, ready to kiss, but by the time Squall had fastened the seatbelt, the blonde was already pulling back. Squall blinked his eyes when he saw the disappointed look on Seifer's face.

'Huh? W-was I supposed to kiss him or something? Damn... I'm not that good at this dating thing... It's all new to me.' the brunette frowned and turned to look out of his window. 'Besides, what are we? Friends? No, friends don't kiss, at least not the way we did.' Squall got lost in his thoughts, a faint red covering his cheeks as he remembered what he and Seifer had done on the living room sofa.

"Squall?" Seifer's voice brought the younger boy back from his thoughts. He blinked his eyes and turned to face the blonde.

"What? Did you say something?" Squall asked and received a smile from Seifer.

"You bet I did. Where did you go anyway? Off to dreamland?" the blonde chuckled.

"N-no. I was jusinkiinking..." Squall explained.

"You do that a lot, don't you?" Seifer asked and kept his eyes on the road, as they came into traffic lights.

"Is there something wrong with that?" Squall asked, a little frown on his face. Seifer shook his head immediately and turned to look at the younger boy.

"Of course not! Anyway, I asked you if you wanted to know where we're going." Squall gave a nod, eager to know. "Over there." Seifer said and pointed with his finger. Squall turned to look out of his window, his eyes widening when he saw what Seifer was talking about.

"The Hilltop Amusement Park?!" he exclaimed, looking like a kid on a Christmas morning. Seifer smiled as he watched Squall get so excited. He had decided to take the younger boy to the local amusement park, thinking it would be easier there for both of them to be on the first date. Actually Seifer wasn't sure either, if this was a date or just two friends hanging out. It only took a couple of minutes and they were already driving on the parking lot, looking for a place to stop.

"I guess if we park here, it'll be only a short walk to the Amusement Park." Seifer noted and turned down the engine. They got off the car and started walking towards the main gates. The colourful lights of the many devices and attractions lit up the night sky, the screams and laughter already sounding from inside the park.

"I haven't been here in ages! I bet it's been at least 10 years..." Squall spoke as they entered through the gates. Seifer led them to the ticket booth and opened his wallet.

"I'll pay, but I also get to pick the first two rides, okay?" he took the tickets and gave Squall a questioning look. The brunette gave a nod and agreed. Seifer grabbed Squall's hand and led him towards their first destination. The younger boy's eyes went wide as he realized Seifer was holding his hand. He looked around to see if anyone was watching. Squall raised his face and observed Seifer, his eyes narrowed. He didn't know if Seifer was just guiding him through the crowd, or if there was some other reason they were holding hands. The brunette soon forgot the whole thing. His mouth dropped open, as he noticed the huge roller coaster they were nearing.

    'Oh no...oh no, no!'

Seifer turned to look at Squall when he realized the brunette was slowing down. "Come on! That's where we're going first." he laughed and forced Squall to follow him. The younger boy shook his head, but couldn't get any words come out. All he could do was stare in awe at the huge device in front of them. Seifer lead them into the line and looked up as well. "Wow... that's gotta be fun!" he laughed, sounding excited.

"F-fun?" Squall stammered, his voice shaky. He felt his legs go numb as he saw all the loops, ups and downs the tracks made. The screams of the current passengers only managed to increase his fear. 'Oh no...it goes upside down too?!'

"Hey, Squall, we're next, so come on." Seifer noted and lead them towards the now empty seats. It was no ordinary roller coaster with the usual waggon for two. This one had two pairs of seats, hanging from the tracks above. By the time the safety device had lowered and locked, Squall realized there was no going back anymore. He felt his legs, hanging in the air, go numb and closed his eyes. is ris right side, Seifer was eagerly waiting for the ride to begin. He turned to look at Squall and noticed the younger boy was squeezing the handles, his knuckles all white.

"Squall! Relax! It's gonna be fun." Seifer laughed and managed to get Squall to open his eyes before the ride started.

"I-if you say so..." the brunette boy whispered, his heart racing in his chest. 'I'm not gonna live through this...' Squall gasped as the seats jerked and the ride began. First there was a long, sheer climb up. The tracks made loud banging noises, this causing Squall to blink his eyes. 'I-is that supposed to happen?' As they neared the top, Squall kept leaning against the back of the seat, preparing for the ride through hell.

"Oh yeah! Will you look at that!" Seifer laughed and watched the almost vertical drop down, his eyes glimmering with excitement. Squall's eyes, however, widened and were like saucers when he realized how high up they were, and how steep the descent was. As they dropped down, he closed his eyes tightly and planned to keep them that way till the end.

'I'm gonna die!' Squall thought in his mind and let out a miserable cry as they went down, feeling like his insides were turning upside down. Through all the loops and hills, Seifer was having the time of his life, while Squall kept his eyes tightly closed and cursed himself for ever coming into the hellish device. When they finally reached the end of the tracks, the younger boy stil

    l kept his eyes closed.

"Shit! That was fun! Wanna go again!?" Seifer jumped down from the seat and touched Squall's hand. "Hey, it's over now... you okay?" Slowly Squall opened his eyes and shook his head. He watched Seifer from under his now messy hair, his face all pale.
"Oh... was it really that bad?" the older boy asked and helped Squall down. "Sorry. Come on, I'll buy you an ice cream or something as an apology?" he offered with a soft smile on his lips.

"No you don't, unless you want me to throw up, Seifer..." Squall whispered and grabbed Seifer's sleeve to keep himself from falling down, his head still spinning. Seifer watched Squall from the corner of his eye and decided what the next attran won would be. He led them towards the big Ferris wheel, knowing Squall wouldn't survive another round in a roller coaster.

The brunette boy sighed when he realized he wouldn't have to take another trip to Hades. "Thanks..." he whispered and met Seifer's eyes. The blonde gave him a smile and handed the girl on the gates two tickets. They sat down on the seat and lowered the safety bar. The ride started and slowly took them high up. Squall was suddenly feeling nervous. Sitting this close to Seifer caused butterflies to appear in his stomach. He turned his face to look at the view, unable to make himself meet Seifer's eyes. For some time they sat there, both silent. When they were at the highest point, the ride stopped, probably to give them time to admire the view. Squall felt Seifer move closer and gasped, when the blonde suddenly lay his hand on top of Squall's.

"It's peaceful here..." Seifer spoke with a low voice and looked around. Squall was still staring at the hand and didn't even hear the older boy. "You can see the whole town from here." Seifer noted, and slowly turned to face Squall, looking serious. When the brunette was about to turn his face to look away, Seifer cupped Squall's chin and forced him to meet his eyes. For some time he was silent and just stared into the brunette's eyes. He could hear the sharp intake of breath Squall made, when he started to lean closer. "Can I kiss you now?" Seifer asked, his voice but a whisper. Squall was unable to get any words to come out, so he just gave a faint nod and closed his eyes. Soon he felt Seifer's warm lips p aga against his, the older boy's hands moving up to his cheeks. This time Seifer deepened the kiss a bit faster, and at first, Squall had a hard time keeping up with the blonde. Seifer noticed this and brought his other hand behind Squall's neck to help them achieve a mutual pace. It didn't take long for the kiss to flare up. Squall didn't even realize his own hands were travelling up to Seifer's short hair, and down his back. Both of them failed to notice they were moving down again, slowly but surely. Seifer met Squall's tongue with his own, and used it to feel every part of the younger boy's hot mouth. He felt tingles of pleasure travel down his spine, when he heard the little moans of joy Squall let out. As they continued to kiss, Seifer slowly brought his other hand down to the brunette's left thigh. Squall felt this, and instead of moving the hand, he tightened the hold he had on Seifer. This gave the older boy courage to move his hand towards Squall's crotch.

The brunette boy moaned, feeling the hesitant press of Seifer's hand against his slowly awakening arousal. When the blonde felt the hardness, he blinked his eyes, surprised. He hadn't quite expected Squall to get aroused so quickly. He himself had used all his remaining self-discipline to prevent such a thing from happening. Seifer gave a hesitant squeeze with his hand, this causing Squall to moan aloud and pull back from the kiss. Seifer heard the brunette's ragged breathing and met his now lust-filled eyes.

"Squall, do you wanna go some place where we can be alone?" he asked, giving Squall a questioning look. Seifer could tell the younger boy was having a hard time deciding, both lust and fear showing on his face. Finally, just before the ride stopped, Squall gave a nod, though still looking a bit unsure. Seifer raised the safety bar and gave Squall a wide smile. He stood up and offered the brunette his hand. "Let's go. I know where I'll take you." he whispered and lead Squall towards the main gate. It was surprising how quickly they managed to get out of the crowded amusement park, and into Seifer's Porsche. When they were sitting inside, Squall turned to face the blonde.

"Did you mean this? Inside the car?" he asked and eyed the backseat. Seifer shook his head and got the engine going.

"No. My legs are way too long for the backseat..." he chuckled as they drove onto the highway. Squall swallowed, his eyes wide, as he realized Seifer might take him back to his house to Hilltop Valley.

"W-we're not going to your place, are we? I-I don't
