Someone to Protect...
by Midori Bond
Chapter 14
The sun peeked
over the mountains, casting a golden glow over the rubble of a once
hidden Shinra lab. A large boulder moved slightly as a savage snarl
echoed through the valley. After a few seconds, the boulder was
reduced to dust.
Peter calmly
sat with his arms and legs crossed as he looked at Destruction. She
really was the female counterpart of Chaos. Her gold hair shimmered
in the morning light and her eyes glowed an eerie red. He leaned his
head against the rock wall of their hide-away. "This sets our
plans back," he said easily.
Destruction
hissed. "Where is he?" she growled. Her sibilant voice
echoed off of the walls.
"He's
with his parents," Peter said inspecting his nails. "Just
like I said, he didn't take the news of being a lab subject very
well. And Vincent showed up. After that, the safety protocol was
activated, and I brought you here."
She sniffed
the air for a moment. She knew Peter was leaving things out of his
story. He always did. She growled when a hated sent reached her nose.
"Lucrecia," she growled.
Peter licked
his lips and closed his eyes. "I believe that she's been helping
Vincent and Tifa. You know she's always turning up where she isn't wanted."
"Jenova,"
Destruction all but hissed. She turned to Peter and allowed her
claws to wrap around his throat. "You brought her back!"
"I placed
her remnants inside of Lucien, yes," he said calmly. "Sophia
and I discussed this." He waited until the claws left his skin
before standing. "He's not yours Destruction."
She shook her
head. "I did all of this for him. And this is how he repays
me," she said hatefully. "Chaos is supposed to be mine, not
working against me with his mistress and Hojo's whore."
"Vincent
doesn't love Sophia, so naturally, you can't have Chaos."
She scoffed as
her eyes rolled. "Love is overrated," she snarled. She
allowed her body to shift and contort until she stood in Sophia's
body. She ran her fingers through her hair and stretched her arms.
"We have plans to make. I want you to find where they could be
taking Lucien."
"And what
will you be doing?" Peter asked curiously.
Sophia smiled
darkly as she looked at the morning sky. "I'm going to find
Lucrecia, and peel the flesh from her rotting carcass."

Lucien woke to
the smell of something frying downstairs. His stomach growled as he
realized that he hadn't had anything to eat the entire day before. He
sat up and sniffed again. Whatever was cooking, smelled really good.
His mouth was watering as he stretched his wings. He straightened
when a soft knock sounded on his door. "Come in," he said standing.
Reno looked
into the room and smirked at the teen. "Morning Lucky. The old
man's fixing a huge breakfast downstairs. Come get it while it's
hot," he said easily.
Lucien gave
him a confused look. "Lucky?" he questioned.
Reno rolled
his eyes. "Don't tell me, you don't like the nickname
either," he said with a sigh.
Lucien thought
about it. He never had a nickname other than the sweet-sweet ones
Sophia gave him. "Why'd you call me that?" he asked.
Reno shrugged.
"It's shorter than Lucien. And your mom's eyebrow does this
funny twitching thing every time I use it."
"So you
do it annoy my mom?"
A smile
crossed the Turks face. "I'm like that," he said easily.
"I tend to find humor in other people's discomfort."
Lucien frowned
slightly. "That doesn't sound very nice."
Reno waved his
hand. "It's an acquired taste." He smirked as Cid started
to fuss about sneaky thieves that can't keep their hands to
themselves. "Come on. Grab something to eat and get to know
everyone. The old man's a trip."
Lucien stood
and went to the door. "Old man?" he asked.
"You'll see."
Downstairs,
Yuffie giggled as she sat on the counter while chewing on a piece of
bacon. "What can I say? I'm hungry, and you're taking too
long," she said as Cid glared at her.
"Well,
this food ain't for you." Cid went back to the stove and frowned
as he threw more bacon on the stove. "Tifa and her boy have to
eat. The rest of you can find your own meal."
Yuffie smiled
as she saw Reno and Lucien walk down the stairs. "Morning!"
she chimed. She noticed the way Cid's frown deepened and ignored it
for now. "Did you sleep well Lucien?"
"Yes,
thank you," he lied.
The way he
turned his eyes to the floor gave him away, but Yuffie knew that he
had to be going through a rough time. She continued to smile.
"Cid's making all of us breakfast."
"Like
Hell," the pilot argued. "I said Tifa and the boy."
Her eyes
rolled as she went over to the table and started to set it.
"Don't worry, he's all bark and no bite," she said in a pseudo-whisper.
Lucien
couldn't stop the smile that spread across his face as Cid growled
her name in a particularly nasty manner. "Miss Yuffie," he
started quietly. He blinked when she turned hard brown eyes on him.
"Just
Yuffie," she said shaking her finger at him. "We don't
stand for that prim and proper attitude around here. Got it."
Reno leaned
close to Lucien's ear. "Calling a woman Miss makes them feel
old," he advised. As Lucien nodded, Yuffie went back to what she
was doing. The redhead could only snort. If it had been him, he would
be on his ass nursing a few bruises. "Again, proof of how you're
lucky," he mumbled as he went to the table.
Lucien turned
amethyst eyes to him. "I don't get it."
Reno opened
his mouth to say something, only to pause, and shut it a moment
later. "I'll wait until we get you to the city, and you start
asking about girls."
Yuffie
giggled. "Tifa's gonna have her hands full with the three of you."
"Three?"
Lucien asked.
Cid looked at
the boy as Yuffie told him about Denzel and Marlene. There was such
an innocent feel to the way he looked at everything. Cid had to
remind himself that this was really the first time he was around
people that cared about him. "How do you like your eggs,
Lucky?" he asked before turning to the stove again.
Lucien tilted
his head to the side. "Eggs? You eat those?" he asked.
All three
adults looked at him. Yuffie leaned her hip against Reno's chair and
folded her arms over her chest. "Yeah, didn't they give you eggs
and stuff to eat?"
The good and
welcomed feeling Lucien felt was fading fast. He couldn't remember
what Peter and Sophia gave him to eat... only those damned pills. He
sat at the table, carefully tucking his wings behind him.
"No," he said slowly. Faint memories of silver packets came
to his mind. "I remember something about Sophia giving me these
silver things. I think she called them..."
"Rations,"
Cid said darkly. He frowned as he cracked an egg over his pan. His
bad mood faded as he caught sight of Lucien's reflection in the
widow. "Don't worry about it Lucky. You'll see, there's a whole
world out there for you to discover."
Yuffie sat
across from Lucien and winked at him. "Well, if he's only ever
had rations, I think we should try different things, so he can figure
out what he likes and what he doesn't," she said helpfully. When
she saw Cid nod, her smile turned downright wicked. "And if
that's the case, I say we should have pancakes too!"
"What?"
Cid yelled.
"With
lots of syrup." Yuffie nodded as she leaned back in her chair.
As she started to rattle off various foods, she noticed the way Reno
took her hand in his. She smiled at her redhead and looked at Lucien
again. "What do you think?"
Lucien's eyes
glanced at Cid before he swallowed. "The reasoning is sound, but
I don't think I can eat that much." In protest, his stomach
growled loudly. "Maybe," he said, trying to cover his
blunder. "I don't want to be a bother."
Yuffie shook
her head. "I know he doesn't act like it, but Cid's a good cook.
And he likes doing it. We just give each other a hard time, that's
all. It's what families do."
Cid smirked as
he place a plate with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and ham in front
of Lucien. "Eat up Lucky. There's something else that I have to
do, as the only sane member of this family," he said before
walking over to Reno. Without pause, he had a handful of red hair and
was dragging the yelping man out onto the porch.
"Cid!"
Yuffie shouted as she moved to go after them.
"Watch
breakfast," Cid ordered before sliding the door shut.
Lucien looked
at Yuffie for a long moment. She was torn between going after the
pair, or staying like she was told. He lifted a fork full of ham up
to his mouth and ate it. He blinked at the taste. Kinda sweet, but
not. He smiled as he took another bite. "I was only going to ask
for a haircut," he said around a mouth full of food.
* * * * *
"Would
you stop pulling my hair!" Reno shouted as he wrestled his red
locks out of Cid's grasp. When he stood straight, he glared at the
older man. "What the hell is with you?"
Cid looked at
Reno with narrowed eyes. "I know about what you said to
Cloud," he started. "And while I appreciate the fact that
you're trying to defend Yuffie from him, I wanna make sure you're not
just playing head games with her."
"What?"
"She
doesn't need to have her heart broken just because you can't keep it
in your pants," Cid clarified. "She gets enough heartache
with Cloud."
Reno's glare
hardened. "Is that what this is about?" he asked
straightening his shirt. "You don't want me to hurt Yuffie?"
When Cid folded his arms, he ran his hands through his hair.
"Damn it, why didn't you just say so."
"A man's
gotta get his point across."
"Yeah. So
does Tifa." Reno massaged his scalp for a moment and mused.
"And just so you know, She's a hell of a lot scarier than you. Sorry."
It was Cid's
turn to frown. "What?"
"I've
already had the speech from Tifa. I'm under orders to make her happy.
And if by any act of fate should I do something that's worthy of my
asshole nature, Tifa reserves the right to beat me until Elena says stop."
Cid frowned.
"Why Elena?"
Reno snorted.
"Because she'll wait until I'm almost dead."
Cid started to
nod. "Tifa's a good girl," he said impressed.
"Do you
know how disturbing it is to be threatened by that nice and innocent
voice she has?" he asked. When Cid laughed, he frowned. "I'm
serious. It's freaky."
"Poison
wrapped in sugar," Cid agreed. He placed his hand on Reno's
shoulder and gave him a serious look. "But really. Yuffie's a
good woman. None of us want to see her hurt."
Blue eyes
locked for a moment. There was something Cid wasn't saying, and Reno
wanted to know. "You're in love with her, aren't you?"
A bittersweet
smile crossed Cid's face. "I care about her. More than I'll
admit, less than she deserves." He looked over his shoulder and
saw a cloud of smoke coming from the back door. "Damn it
Yuffie!" he shouted before running inside.
* * * * *
The sunlight
filtered into the room through the closed curtains. Before she opened
her eyes, Tifa made sure there wasn't any lasting effects of the
sleep spell. She was furious. Vincent knew how much she hated that
spell, and for him to use it on her... he was gonna pay for it. Tifa
opened her eyes and looked around her room. The target for her anger
was sitting calmly on the floor. She sat up and glared at him.
"Where's Lucien?" she asked, barely keeping her tone civil.
"Downstairs.
I believe he's having breakfast with the others," he answered
as he came to his feet. He wasn't about to have any type of fight
with her when he was already on the ground.
She stood as
she ran her fingers through her hair. "Good. He needs to
eat," she said as she walked over to where he stood. "How
was he last night? Did he have any nightmares?"
"Some.
That I know of. Last night he and I spoke, then I came back here with
you." He caught sight of the way her hands slowly curled into a
fist. He didn't think the was going to be pretty.
"So you
didn't stay with him?" she asked in a soft, almost forgiving tone.
He was beyond
being in trouble, and he knew it. There was only one way for Vincent
to come out of this with little to no blood-loss. "I was too
worried about you...." Whatever else he was going to say left
him in a rush as he doubled over Tifa's fist.
"He's our
son," Tifa said in a hiss. As she felt his hand wrap around her
wrist, she moved to strike him with her other hand. "He should
come first."
Vincent
growled as he caught her other hand as well. Before she could react,
he turned and pressed her against the wall behind him. He pinned her
hands above her head and forced his knee between her legs when she
tried to kick him. "I know who he is. He was fine, you weren't."
She looked
into his eyes as she struggled against him. "You put me to sleep."
"You
needed it," he said as he held both of her hands in his clawed
one. His jaw tightened as one of her legs lifted to his waist. He was
all too aware of the effects her body could have on his.
"Not with
Materia," she said as his face slowly came closer to hers. She
also remembered what they were doing before he put her to sleep. Tifa
tried to twist her arms out of his grasp again and moaned as his
mouth closed over hers. This was really playing dirty. She missed him
too much to stay angry with him for too long. And he could melt her
resolve with a look, never mind what he could do to her with a kiss.
She renewed
her struggles against his hold and pulled his mouth away from hers
slightly. "Never with Materia," she whispered against his
lips. She slowly inhaled as he caressed her face.
Her eyes were
starting to glaze with passion. "I can't give you that
promise," he said before mouthing the side of her neck. As she
moaned, he released her hands, relishing in the way they tangled in
his hair. He stepped closer to her, pressing his body as close to
hers as he could. A growl escaped him as he lifted her into his arms.
Tifa turned
his face to hers and kissed him savagely. A moan escaped her as he
rocked his pelvis against her own. She knew they should still be
fighting. She knew that she shouldn't make love to him, it was still
too soon after giving birth. But she couldn't stop herself. She felt
as if she were drowning in the feelings he was bringing out of her.
When he started to pull away from her, she locked her ankles behind
his back and pulled him forward again. She gasped as he pulled away
from her mouth. "Vincent," she whispered as her hands
fisted his shirt.
He shook his
head as his hands trailed up her legs. The muscles under her smooth
skin tightened. Her night shirt had traveled up to her waist,
revealing more skin to him. It would be too easy to simply bury
himself inside of her warmth, but he knew she wasn't ready. Before he
could say anything, Vincent heard the sound of fabric ripping. He
looked into her eyes and saw a smirk on her full lips.
"Either
make love to me, right here, right now, or I beat you into next
week," she breathed before kissing his neck. She released the
scraps of his shirt and ran her fingers down his chest. "I've
been coddled enough...." Her breath was hot against his ear as
she fondled his nipples. "On my back enough." She tightened
her legs around his waist and closed her eyes as he bucked against
her. She heard his growl and lifted herself enough to look into his
eyes. "I'm not a piece of glass," she said shaking her
head. "I won't break."
Vincent
tangled his hand in her hair as he brought her mouth down on his.
Without a thought, he ripped off the shirt she wore and pressed her
against the wall again. Her legs continued to tighten around him as
he made quick work of his own pants. He tilted his head to the side
as she started to mouth his throat. He knew he wasn't going to be
able to control himself. He had spent so long thinking... dreaming of
the next time he would be inside of her.
Tifa loosened
her legs enough to allow him to shift his weight. His low growls made
his chest vibrate as he slowly entered her. Tifa moaned as she leaned
her forehead against his. She loved him. The feel of him. She kissed
him tenderly as his length entered her completely. "I love
you," she breathed as she looked into his eyes.
He could see
the emotion in her eyes and he returned it. "Love you," he
whispered before kissing her throat. "You won't break," he
told her gently. As she shook her head, he steadied his hold on her
waist. His teeth bit into her skin as he started to thrust into her
with all of his strength. His pride swelled as her back arched and
she cried out in pure pleasure. Her body adjusted and met his when
she kissed him with bruising force. Her tongue entered his mouth,
fighting for dominance.
She pulled him
closer with her legs and cried into his mouth as he continued his
rough pace. Her body was straining to pull him in deeper, stretching
to feel utter and complete ecstasy. She breathed through her nose as
his thrusts became more urgent, more on edge. He was nearing
completion, and so was she. His hands curled over her breasts,
triggering her release. She cried out, raking her nails down his back.
It was all too
much for him as well. He gasped as his hips pistoned into her twice
more before his seed emptied inside of her. His strength failed as he
collapsed to his knees, Tifa still secure in his arms. He continued
to lick and kiss her skin as they both tried to gather themselves.
Tifa was
trying to catch her breath as she leaned against the wall. A content
smile was on her face as she brushed his hair away from his eyes.
"See, I told you," she panted. As he pressed a chaste kiss
to her lips, she frowned. The wonderful smells coming from the
kitchen were gone. Replaced by something far less pleasant. She
looked into ruby orbs with a raised eyebrow. "Is something burning?"
