She exited the Yusnaan train and took a moment to check her surroundings before she went any further. The last thing she wanted was to draw attention to herself before she had a plan.
“How is our bright and magnificent savior doing today?” An overly optimistic voice caught her attention. She rolled her eyes and turned to the Chocobo Humanoid she was quickly learning to enjoy.
“Hello, Chocolina.” She said as she crossed her arms.
“Are you here to save our gorgeous friend’s soul?” She asked as she flapped her wings in excitement.
“I’m going to try...” Light answered with a sigh.
Chocolina let out a squeal as she jumped for joy. “You can do it, Lightning! You can save him!”
She rolled her eyes again and laughed as she darted out into the crowd. Avoiding the security and
heading toward the Augur’s Quarter. Once she got to the gate, someone explained to her that it was on lock down by the order of the Patron but that the fireworks show was on schedule.
After she completed all the tasks to set off a firework show that would not only gain her access to the palace but also gain the attention of Snow, she headed toward the stairs. She fought every chaos infused gang of beasts that appeared before her. With ease. She was ready. Ready for anything.
She approached a heavily sealed door covered in a mixture of crystal and ice. “Snow…Let me in!” She yelled as she slammed her fist against the door.
Nothing. Just silence and the sound of her own breathing. She looked around for another route which she soon found. The path led her to his…bedroom. Or what he had turned into his prison. She wasn’t sure.
She approached his bed and gently ran her hand over his pillow and down the blanket that covered it. ‘Snow…’ She said to herself. She could smell a mixture of his natural scent and his cologne. A scent she had grown to love. She smiled for a brief moment, only to discover Serah’s engagement necklace resting on a nearby table. Seeing it sent charges of electricity to her heart. She gently picked it up and knew what she had to do.
She made her way back to the door he barricaded with powerful magic. She held the necklace to the door and watched as the crystallized ice melted away. Gaining her access to the room he was waiting in.
“So this is what has become of you, huh?” Seeing him standing before her in his black coat and pants and his hair unkempt sent forgotten emotions through her body and her mind. Flashbacks of what she once thought was just a dream filled her mind.
“What did you expect? Centuries of carrying the world alone…Did you honestly think I’d be the same man you abandoned?!” He yelled, startling her. He had never used that tone with her before. She was stunned.
“Snow…I…I didn’t mean to abandon you or anyone else for that matter.” Her voice was quiet. She was ashamed. She had no idea her absence would cause so much pain.
“But you did! You left. Serah died and YOU LEFT!” His growing anger caused her to become concerned. It was that moment that he let out a painful scream as his arm took form of the early signs of a Cie’th.
Tears filled her eyes. She couldn’t find the words. She could only make sense of what she was feeling. Fear. Fear of losing Snow.
“I guess it makes sense that you would be the one to bring my suffering to an end.” His voice was calmer now. Like he finally accepted his doomed fate.
“You want me to kill you?!” She drew her weapon and aimed it at the ground. “I’m not going to kill you. I’m going to save you!”
Snow smirked and went after her. They fought for an hour or longer. Both of them growing exhausted but neither of them willing to give up. They both had their objectives but eventually Snow fell. Groaning and growling. His eyes no longer the ocean of blue serenity that she once stared into.
“I want to help you…I just don’t know how!” Her voice cracked. She punched his chest. As her hand touched his bare skin, she felt this overwhelming burst of energy come from within. His beast-like growls turned to human groans.
His hand touched hers sending familiar cold surges through her. She opened her eyes to find him in his human form. She did it. She brought him back. Joy filled her as he collapsed into her arms.
“Snow…You need to keep fighting. I…need you.” She said quietly as she ran her hands down the back of his head, she could feel his breath against her chest. For a moment, she felt calm. He was safe. She could feel him. He was real.
He was out of it for a little while but he came back to reality. His life had been returned to him. She helped him to his feet. His arm was around her shoulder as they stood together. She wasn’t sure if it was his heart beat or her own that she was hearing but she was just happy either
way. ‘At least we’re not dead…’ She thought to herself as waited for him to stand on his own.
“I-I’m sorry, Light. I..don’t know what happened to me.” He shamefully admitted as he turned away
from her. “I failed…”
She shook her head aggressively and sighed heavily as she put her hand on his arm and turned him. She glared and clenched her jaw as she punched him in the face as hard as she could.
“Stop! It is NOT your fault. You did everything you could. You lasted longer than most would have with the cards you were dealt. Do you hear me, you idiot?” She wrapped her arms around his shirtless and muscular center. “You didn’t…fail. I did.”
He could feel her tears gently running down his skin. Her words cut into him making him wrap his arms around her in return. He placed his chin on the top of her head and tried to calm her.
“Light…” He said as he pulled out of her embrace. “You didn’t fail. You saved me. More times than I think you even know.” He said with his infamous cocky grin as he placed his hand on the side of her face and wiped away her tears with his thumb.
She locked eyes with him as she allowed herself to feel his touch. She searched for answers in them. Answers to questions she was afraid to even ask.
“You did the same for me, Snow. You may not have been with me in Valhalla but…” She brought her hand to his and closed her eyes as she focused on the energy that was coming from his touch. “You were with me. You…were my strength. Please forgive me for leaving you to fight this alone for so long.” She pleaded. Her voice was quiet.
It was that moment that he knew what he had to do next. No words were going to prove to her that he did, in fact, forgive her. He reached into his pants pocket that was wedged between them.
“Woah…” She said as her eyes widened and she pulled away from him. “Snow…”.
“Would you relax?” He laughed as he removed the crystal heart that had been anonymously left for him so long ago in Academia. It looked so small in his big hands. He took her hand gently exposed her open palm. With little to no force at all, he placed it in her hand and closed her fingers around it. He locked eyes with her and smiled. A smile she had never seen before. A smile of…love. He brought her fist to his full and now damp lips and placed a soft kiss against her skin.
“I forgive you, Light. I will always forgive you.” His voice was softer than she thought he was ever
capable of. “You never left my side. I just…forgot.”
She was overcome with the calming sensation that came from his touch. A feeling she once made
herself believe was just a daydream she had in Valhalla. Maybe she just convinced herself it was. She wasn’t sure but what she did know was that she did send him that crystal heart. Her crystal heart.
“Snow…I...” He pressed his finger against her lips to silence her. Their eyes met and he slowly leaned in to kiss her. She wanted to stop him but she couldn’t. She couldn’t move.
As his soft and full lips met hers, a long forgotten feeling rushed over both of them. They were
completely engaged in such a passionate embrace that, instead of just a feeling, they were soon
surrounded by a tornado of electricity and ice.
He lifted her to him, placing his hands on her hips as she wrapped her arms around his neck. She
felt…unstoppable. Her heart was pounding rapidly as he leaned her against a nearby wall. Pushing himself into her, he kissed her neck and let out an almost animalistic growl as she kissed his shoulder and dug her nails into his back. Hearing his groans drove her absolutely insane.
His mouth moved from her neck to her shoulder as one hand ran down the side of one of her legs that she had so firmly wrapped around him. His other arm wrapped around her curvy waist, holding her in place.
“Light…” He whispered as he gently ran his tongue across her earlobe. “I…” his words were interrupted by an unusual beep that emerged from her ear. “Wha…what the hell…” He shook his head as he pulled away from her.
‘Light. It’s almost 6. You must return to the arc.’
Snow looked at her, puzzled. Their moment was interrupted. Once her feet met the ground and she gathered herself again, she explained to Snow what was going on. Telling him everything.
They sat on the balcony of his real palace. Not the inner dwellings of the dump he made her explore to locate him.
The sky was clearer than she thought possible considering they only had a few days before the world would be ending. There were no stars, though. Just dark, clear skies and silhouettes of nearby planets.
A small girl entered the room with a tray of food and beverages for them.
“Thanks, darlin’.” He said as he winked at the blue haired girl and took the tray from her, sitting it on the table in front of them. She nodded and smiled as she turned to leave.
“Leave it up to you to have girls in every life swoon over you.” She said playfully as she crossed her legs and reached for the fruit on the platter.
“I can’t help it. It’s the charm and good looks.” He teased and smiled at her. He sat in bliss as he watched her eat. His eyes didn’t leave her. ‘She’s really here.’ He said inwardly to himself.
“You better stop staring before I remind you why I am the savior.” She said as she threw the half eaten fruit in his direction.
“I’m sorry. I just never thought I’d see you again. I wasn’t sure if I had seen you at all. For centuries I convinced myself that the memories I thought I had with you were just…my mind playing tricks on me.” He admitted as he tossed the discarded fruit over the ledge.
“I…wasn’t sure if they were real either. At least, not until…” Her sentence trailed off.
“Until we totally almost did it in my basement?” He said confidently as he grinned from ear to ear.
“I swear…you are never going to change, are you?” She rolled her eyes and leaned back against her seat.
“I’m just joking, Light. You haven’t changed either. Always afraid to loosen up.” He sighed. “That
moment in the basement was real. Everything about it was real.”
“What about Serah? What about the promise you made to her?” She asked, quickly looking over her shoulder and away from him.
He got up and walked over to her. He kneeled down in front of her and placed his now very warm hands on her exposed thighs. His touch made her blush.
“Serah and I do not have the destiny we once did. Or, we thought we did. We both made peace with that long ago. Why can’t you?” He asked her, gently placing his lips on her skin. “You will save Serah and I’ll help in any way I can but, you and I both know, our story ended the day she met Noel.”
Light stroked his hair and leaned her head back, staring at the intricate tile work above her head. His stubble tickled her leg which made her giggle. A sound that surprised both of them.
“Did you just…” He asked, confused but unable to hold back his laughter.
“Shut up.” She replied as she playfully pushed him away with her foot.
“I just made you giggle.” He quickly returned to her, kissing her knee and moving up to her thigh.
“It was a fluke.” She said coldly as she fought back the urge to repeat the sound.
“Mm, a fluke huh?” His tongue was now sliding across her smooth skin, followed by barely-there
nibbles. “Maybe I can figure out what other sounds the mighty savior is capable of.”
“Snow,” Her voice was a whisper but she was soon reminded of the time. Yet again. Which caused her to groan in frustration as she stood from his playful plans. “I have to go. I’ll visit again when I can but, until then, be the hero I know you are. Protect this beautiful city.”
Before he could say a word, she was gone. Leaving him both filled with happiness for the first time in a long time and filled with fear for what is to come.
