Rude/Shera
This time. This place.
Misused. Mistakes.
It wasn’t a cathedral or an
expensive reception hall decorated in flowery colors and draped in lace. A
grand organ wasn’t playing the wedding march in the background, and the place
smelled vaguely of old nachos and unwashed laundry. The minister wasn’t wearing
black robes, instead an outfit distantly resembling something out of a manga
comic. There were only two witnesses, close friends of the groom. He wasn’t the
Captain, and she wasn’t Chelsea. But somehow it was perfect.
Too long. Too late.
Who was I to make you wait?
It hadn’t ever been simple
between them or even like a storybook story. He was pining over a star-crossed
love; she had fallen for a gay man. He dealt in death; she fixed machines. And
yet, on the day they crossed paths, nothing was ever the same again.
Standing before the
minister, hands clasped and sharing warm smiles, one that he reserved only for
her, they were reminded of the paths they had taken and roads traveled to even
get this far. It was a long-distance bond. She rarely got to see him, and he
wondered if it was real.
Just one chance,
just one breath.
Just in case
there’s just one left.
They weren’t your typical
relationship. She laughed; he was soft-spoken. Sometimes, her temper could
shake mountains. Sometimes, his silence aggravated her. But somehow, they made
it work. Somehow, they found what they needed in each other. They didn’t
understand, but they took the chance anyway because time was falling apart around
their heads.
Cause you know.
I love you. I’ve
loved you all along.
They had met purely by
accident. She had been in a hurry, and he had simply been in the way. She had
crashed into him, her supplies and books and papers flying every which way. She
had fallen on her butt, glasses askew on her face as she had looked up at the
man that had felt as strong as a brick wall. Her first thought had centered on
his eyes, on how wonderfully brown they were beneath the shades that had been
knocked aside. He had wondered if it was fate after all.
Rude had offered her a
hand, stooping to help collect her scattered equipment. She had snuck glances
at him, embarrassed when she actually had to chase down one particular
document, knowing that the Captain would be irate if she lost it. They hadn’t
even spoken a word as she bowed her head in thanks and had hurried away, no
more looking out for where she was going than she had before.
But neither had forgotten.
I miss you for far
away.
For far too long.
The second time they had
met, it had been Shera to make the first move. She had looked out the window of
the home she shared with the Captain, only to see a familiar baldhead passing
by outside. With dreams haunting her memories and already feeling particularly
melancholy, she had decided to take a chance. Gathering up her courage, Shera
had left the house and had flagged him down.
He had seemed surprised to
her; she had been relieved. Names had been exchanged. Idle talk had been made,
and before either of them knew it, he had been treating her to dinner. They had
discussed their incidental meeting before, as well as their occupations. They
had talked about past loves and the color of the sky. They had talked until the
candles on their table burned down to near nubs.
And Rude had taken off his
sunglasses, allowing her to see the openness in his beautiful eyes. It might
have been love at first sight.
I keep dreaming
you’ll be with me and you’ll never go.
Stop breathing if I
don’t see you anymore.
It wasn’t easy for them,
living on opposite sides of the world and nearly on opposite ends of the
spectrum. They rarely got to see one another, having to rely on the times when
Rude accepted all missions to Rocket Town or the few supply runs Shera made to
Midgar. They kept their gradually building relationship a secret, unwilling to
let the truth of it ruin what they had.
But months often went by
before they were able to be together again, so each moment was treasured. Each
minute wasn’t wasted. Shera dreamed of him at night. Rude thought of her when
he was quiet and alone in his ratty apartment in the city. They both thought of
their own broken hearts, and somewhere, they resolved to heal them together.
On my knees I’ll ask…
Last chance for one last dance.
They
had danced together one evening when Cid was gone. Rude had been sent to
Nibelheim to track down an escaped SOLDIER. His mission had been quick, so he
managed a stopover in Rocket Town. Luckily for them, they had the house to
themselves.
For
a man of his size and occupation, Shera hadn’t expected him to dance so well.
They had glided across the floor of the den, swaying to softly playing music.
It had been the first time she thought that she was maybe beginning to be okay
with her unrequited love for her Captain, that she could forget all about it.
And for Rude, it had been the first time he found himself not missing Chelsea.
Because with you I’d withstand…
All of hell to hold your hand.
There
was much they had to overcome, especially the disproval over their
relationship. The Captain was none too happy, still furious with ShinRa over
the cancellation of the space program. With the destruction of his dreams, he
was determined to dislike all of ShinRa.
He
had happened to see them one day, giving kisses goodbye, and had recognized the
Turk immediately. He had ranted and raved to the young engineer that ShinRa
would only screw her over, that she couldn’t trust a Turk. He had vowed
inwardly to make sure Rude never came around if he could help it. It had been painful
for her, already trying to forget about the love that could never be with the
Captain. She hadn’t listened to him, and it quickly became a topic of argument
between them.
Rude
had faced his own problems, though he kept the secret as well he could. People
had grown suspicious, so his trips to Rocket Town had become fewer and fewer.
Covert phone calls in the middle of the night had been the only thing to
sustain their relationship.
I’d give it all. I’d give for us.
Give anything, but I won’t give up.
With
Meteor hanging in the sky, it was the time to make decisions. There were only
seven days to live or so the forecast predicted. ShinRa had fallen apart
completely, the President either missing or dead and most executives scattered
to the wind. The Captain had joined AVALANCHE. They were two lonely souls on
opposite ends of the world.
So Shera packed her bags, wrote a letter, and left for Midgar. Rude decided in
his mind to quit both ShinRa and the Turks. With the world coming to an end, he
couldn’t think of anywhere else he would rather be. There was no one but Tseng
to give his resignation to, so he gave his boss the news and took off for
Rocket Town.
But
just outside his door she was already waiting for him.
I wanted you to stay.
I need to hear you
say.
The first time they
kissed, it had been tentative and a bit shy. She had leaned in. Their noses had
bumped. He had smiled faintly as she blushed, brushing her hair back behind her
ears before giving it another attempt. Then, they had tried again, their lips
meeting almost perfectly as she melted into his embrace, strong arms wrapping
even tighter around her body.
He had held her up. And
though there hadn’t been any words, she had known what he was saying. It had
been perfectly imperfect, as only something could be for the odd couple like
them. He swore that she had tasted like cinnamon. She had teased him about the
wintergreen hard candies that he had a secret addiction to.
That I love you.
I’ve loved you all
along.
Shera was always warmed by
how gentle Rude was, despite his greater strength and size. He treated her
well, his lips ghosting across her flesh, his moves careful and sure. Not that
there weren’t times he just pushed her up a wall and took her, when they had
only minutes here and there. But there was always a certain measure of care in
every move he made, as if he was constantly cautious of hurting her. She liked
that. It made her feel safe and wanted, cherished even.
Whereas Rude was often
surprised by the sheer voracity in his little minx. Her kisses were oftentimes
hard and pleading, desperate for something, whether it be comfort or just the
desire to be touched. They fit together like pieces of a puzzle, and though it
was never spoken aloud then, he knew it in his heart. He loved her. And well,
she loved him back.
I forgive you for being away for far too long.
So keep breathing cause I’m not leaving you anymore.
Even after Meteor had
been destroyed and the world had been saved, they decided they weren’t going to
return to their prior lives. Now that they had each other, they weren’t going
to let go. Cid offered them use of his house, and it was there they made their
home. He found odd jobs for the time being; she fixed up bits and pieces of
machinery that he never quite understood.
And when he looked
into her eyes, he saw a love that mirrored his own. And when Shera smiled at
him, it was to the emotion that practically emanated from his own beautifully
brown irises. They laughed, and they teased. They made their own way, and somewhere,
along the line, they thanked fate or Kami-sama or whatever it was that brought
them together.
And now, with Shera
expecting their first child, they find that happiness had always been within
their reach. They were no longer burdened by lost loves, finding comfort and
solace in each other’s arms, finding love that was honest and true. He promised
he would never leave. She vowed to stay by his side. They believed in those
pledges and never let one another go.
Believe it.
Hold onto me never let me go.

as much. Thanks!!
Cloris Forever: I’m more of
a yaoi writer but I might be able to drudge something up. I can’t guarantee it
can be quick but it may come out eventually. Glad to see you liked my little
one-piece however, even if it is part of a bigger piece. Thanks!!
