Resurrection

Disclaimer: I don't own Final Fantasy VII nor any of its characters/locations. If I did, do you honestly think I would be sitting here writing this stuff? Although this plot DOES belong to me along with whatever critter ends up popping out will also be mine.

Author's comments: I managed to write this bit in an hour. Yay for me. That'll tell you how short this part is. Again, I'm not totally sure where I'm going to take this so be warned.

- Chapter 2 -


Cloud sighed as he run his hand over the church pews as he passed them, heading for the flower garden that still managed to live even after all that had happened. He stopped in front of the soft flowers and kneeled before them. Gently, almost lovingly, Cloud touched one of the petals of the assortment of flowers and closed his eyes as he remembered meeting Aeris for the first time.

"Why doesn't he believe me..?" Cloud whispered as he opened his eyes again and stared at the figure standing on the other side of the flowerbed.

"Maybe it's because he's thick-headed and needs a good fucking?"

The blondes jaw dropped open as he watched in wide-eyed fascination as the figure before him giggled and waved her hand in greeting.

"Cloud," Aeris smiled as she saw his dazed look. "Try not to be so worried. He'll come around sooner or later. In the mean time," she winked, moving to sit beside his kneeling figure. "Why don't you help me here, hmmm?"

Nodding dumbly, Cloud could only watch as her soft hands started to become dirtier and dirtier as they worked in the dirt. Swallowing, he followed suit and felt his brain become numb as the two of them worked together in silence.

Hours passed as the two of them worked diligently together to clear the flowerbed of weeds and grass so the tiny flora had a chance to grow and bloom. Rubbing a hand against his forehead, Cloud was surprised to feel sweat there. Surely he hadn't been working that long? Glancing over to Aeris, Cloud slightly smiled. Regardless of whatever happened, she was there to support him.

"Aeris?" He asked her as soft glow of sunlight filled the church, surrounding them both in a pale circle of gold.

"Hmm?" she answered, never looking up from where she was working, frowning as she started to tug on a weed.

His mouth suddenly went dry as he watched a lock of brown hair lightly graze her cheek before she pushed it back in place and turned to gaze at him.

"Yes, Cloud?"

"What did you mean he needs a good-'' but stopped and craned his neck around, hearing a loud crash behind them and watched as some metal piping shifted before resting on the floor, dust settling around it.

Blinking in surprise, Cloud turned back to face Aeris and felt his heat stop beating.

Aeris wasn't there.

Slowly standing up, Cloud could feel a faint numbness fill his being as he slowly turned around, gazing at his surroundings. He was alone in the church. Feeling both his heart and stomach lurch, he turned and fled the cathedral.
