Capter 2

Walking naked to the mirror on the wall, running her hands down her upper body she studied her reflection. This was something she never had time for in the past, and didn’t really dwell on. She was a little over average height, had lean muscles trained for fighting, but her figure was womanly and drew the eyes. Her skin was pale, and silky. Her breasts were high, ample, and her nipples were a pale rose pink. Her stomach was flat and taut. Blushing at where her hands were leading she turned around to study her soft round bottom. Many a man in town has gotten a good fist in the face for gawking.

She stood with an air of confidence, and walked with a feline grace. Looking over her shoulder in the mirror, she went on to study the rest of her appearance. Her eyes were almond shaped, with a violet hue that would put a sky at sunset to shame. Her eyes would change color with her emotions. The few who had looked into her eyes said that if you looked too deep into them, they would capture your soul. When she smiled, which was rare, a little dimple would appear near the lower left side of her mouth. When she got angry, her lower lip would stick out like a child’s. Her hair was wavy, flowing to her waist, and was black as a raven’s wing. When it was down, it was soft, and the heavy waves moved with her step. She usually kept it all pulled back into a severe bun. Now she pulled it all down, and secured it in a high ponytail. Her bangs framed her face, and gave her a youthfulness that made her appear younger than her twenty-five years. Sometimes she would think to hell with it, and want to cut it short, but she could never bring herself to do it. One of her teachers at the research center in Cosmo Canyon told her she had a strange beauty like a china doll. Her appearance stuns some people, and others are drawn to her.

Shaking her head, she blew her bangs out of her face. She walked to the closet and put some things into a small bag with a long cord she could secure at her waist. Pulling out some clothes to wear, she chose what would not hinder her during a fight. These clothes would feel so different from her usual training clothes, and would make her feel a little more like a woman. Grandfather would never let her walk around in something like this, but now she had the freedom to do so. “Take that old man,” she thought.

She pulled a tight black tank top with lace trim over her head, pulled it down over her ample chest, and to her waist. Next came a skintight pair of black shorts that went to the top of her thighs, and showed the nice curve of her behind. She sat on the bed and pulled on a black pair of thigh high, flat heeled fighting boots. She thought this would do for now.

Picking up the small bag she left the room, and quickly walked down to the cellar of the house. When she turned on the light it looked like any other cellar. She walked over to a rack of shelves on a wall, and kicked the cover under the bottom shelf. She knelt to feel under the shelf for a button that was rough like the rest of the wall. Grandfather made sure she knew where this was. The Turk never truly died in his spirit, he was always on the defensive if they came to get him again, and he had weapons stashed everywhere in the house. She found the button, and pressed it. The wall pushed in and slid to the side, lights automatically came on to show her the room within. On a table in the middle of the room sat the urn her Grandfather’s ashes were in. She closed her eyes, and took a deep breath.

Looking around the room, it was filled with almost every weapon imaginable, swords, knives, and explosives. There were also several different types of guns, ammunition, and Materia. Things he accumulated over the years, and a candy store to her. Walking over to a wall filled with knives, she chose a few smaller knives to hide in her clothing, and in her boots. A few special smoke bombs went into her boots as well. A large wicked knife caught her eye and she took it down from its placeholder. She strapped it to her back where it would be easy to get to. Going to a box with Materia, she chose a few. She thought that this would be all she needed.

Walking towards the exit, the ring on her finger began to vibrate. It startled her, and it began to pull her arm as if a magnet were pulling it. She turned to where the ring pointed, and walked to a wall. There was a faint indentation in the wall that was around the size of the ring, and had the crest symbol above it. Thinking for a moment, she took the ring off, pushed it into the indentation, and a hidden room was revealed to her. She looked at the ring, wondering about its history. Maybe she would find out in the future. Putting the ring back on, she cautiously walked inside, and was greeted with a room full of ancient armor. Looking through the rest of the room it also held jewelry, scrolls, shelves of books, and a large piece of a stone wall with writing on it at the end of the room. She walked over to the stone wall, and looked at it. The writing was familiar to her, but she couldn’t decipher it.

The ring started to vibrate, and point her again, but this time it pointed her to a trunk. Walking towards it, the lock clicked and opened. She knelt down and opened the trunk to find a note with her name on it. The note was strange, and old. It said,

“To my Little Light,
If you are opening this trunk then you are the last of our family, and the last of our kind. Your life will get more complicated from here, and you may be in danger. This was my fighting gear before I met your father and became a scientist. There are so many things I wanted to tell you, but bad things have happened. Know that your father and I will always be with you.
Love always,
Mama
P.S. If you are wondering why I know you will receive this, it is because I had a gift to see things in the future. Now smile and go on.

Grandfather told her that her parents were murdered when she was five. She knew very little about them, because Grandfather would never talk about them. This note was very precious to her, and she held it to her heart. She put the note in her bag, and looked in the trunk.

She knelt, and pulled out the pieces of the fighting gear her mother left her. Over her tank top she pulled on a black, modified short-sleeved version of her training top, it had a high neck, and dark red dragons blazing on the front. She then stood, and pulled on a pair of fingerless gloves. She pulled on a skirt, which was slit up the sides to her hips; it also had the red dragons on the front and back. Last she strapped on the belt. She turned to look at her reflection in the mirror next to the trunk. “Not bad,” she thought.

The last item in the trunk was a folded bolt of black fabric, she knelt and touched it, and it made her skin tingle. It felt as if it were warm and alive. Pulling it out of the trunk, she shook it out, and noticed it was a cloak. She put it on and noticed that the inside was red as blood, and it was very light in weight. She put the hood over her head, and walked over to a mirror leaning against the wall. Looking at herself, she thought that the gear fit perfectly, too perfectly. “Everyone says I look like my mother. Is this what she looked like when she was a fighter?” she thought, having never seen a picture of her mother. Grandfather had destroyed every picture he had of her parents.

Shaking her head and blowing at her bangs again, she walked to the exit of this room. Turning to look at the room again, she knew she would have to come back again. Moving into the weapons room, the door to the secret room closed, and almost vanished as if it were never there. Taking a deep breath, she adjusted the cloak, and walked out of the weapons room. The wall replaced itself, and she pulled the board back to where she had kicked it.

There are only two people left in the world who I can consider family. Sensei Nanaki and Tifa Lockheart. Tifa is my best friend. We were like sisters when we grew up in Nibelheim. I don’t really remember how I got there. I just remember Professor Bugenhagen taking me there to my grandfather, and that something traumatic happened to me before that. We went to school together until Grandfather started my training, and he took me to Cosmo Canyon. I was thirteen, and Tifa was eleven when I left. From then on we only wrote to each other, but the letters stopped coming around the time Tifa joined AVALANCHE. It’s been twelve years since I have seen her in person.

She went back upstairs and pulled out her cell phone. Since Tifa was well known now, it wasn’t hard to find out where she was now, but there wasn’t any information about Vincent Valentine. Hopefully Tifa would help her.

Dialing Tifa’s number, it rang a few times, and Tifa answered, “7th Heaven bar and grill Tifa speaking.”

“Hi Tifa. This is Hikari.”

“Hikari Sato? How do I know it’s you?”

“A white chocobo flies in my dreams.”

“Hey, I remember that from when we were kids. Chocobos aren’t white, and they can’t fly. We were so silly then. It’s been a long time, girl. How are you?”

“I’m fine for now, but I need your help. Shinra soldiers murdered grandfather. If they find out about me, I will be in big trouble. Please Tifa, something is going on.”

“Shinra doesn’t know about you? Those jerks are gonna drive me nuts. Where are you?” she said.

“Grandfather’s house near Cosmo Canyon. Grandfather told me to ask Vincent Valentine for his help, but I can’t get a hold of him.”

“I’ll get a hold of him, and the rest of the team. Can you get to Nanaki at the observatory? I’ll call Cid to fly there from Rocket Town to pick you up.”

“That’s where I’m heading after I run an errand.”

“Give me your number so I can get a hold of you if I need to.”

Hikari gave her the number.

“If you need me, call my cell phone… Be safe until we get to you ok?” Tifa gave her the cell phone number.

“Thank you Tifa. Laterz.”

“No problem, girl. Laterz.”

She closed her cell phone, and quickly left the house. It was situated at the top of a cliff overlooking the ocean near Cosmo Canyon. The wind was soft today, and it played with the strands of her hair. Inhaling through her nose she caught the sea air, and took a few minutes to look at the ocean. She vowed to come back soon to release her Grandfather’s ashes. Turning, she walked into the garage, and got on her motorcycle. She drove to the Ancient Forest, which was only a few hours away from the Canyon, and made it to her destination just as it got dark.
