Squall went into defensive mode the moment that the large blonde pushed himself into the tiny apartment. The fact that the other man was a lot taller then him made him feel intimidated, though he wasn’t going to show it, and he honestly feared for Maggie’s well being around such a horrible man.
"Out." Squall said, pointing to the open door. Seifer paused before he sneered, walking towards the door as if he was about to follow the terse command, though instead he closed the door and returned his attention to Squall.
"Our conversation was cut short yesterday. You never listened to my proposition." Seifer pointed out while looking around. He raised an eyebrow at the meager dwelling, obviously not fitting in amongst the water-stained ceiling or aging wallpaper. "I believe that it would be in your best interests if you would."
Squall was about to say something before he heard a sound from the doorway into the living room. Looking back, Squall spotted Maggie peeking out tentatively; shy of the new man in their home. Ignoring Seifer, Squall moved back to her side, handing her the shoes he had retrieved with a soft smile. "Maggie, you’re going to be late for the bus. You have everything?" When Maggie nodded Squall smiled and rested a hand on her shoulder. The girl seemed bothered by something. After a silent implore Maggie leaned forward to whisper into her father’s ear.
"Mommy doesn’t like that man." Maggie said, making a face. Seifer had his back turned and was currently examining the face of the refrigerator. "He’s a bad man, Daddy." She said knowingly. Squall knew that his wife had been a very good judge of character, and if her angel supposedly didn’t like this man, then it was for ample reason. Yet it didn’t take an angel in a child’s imagination for Squall to figure out that Seifer was not a saint.
"He won't be here long, now you hurry before you miss the bus." Maggie nodded, quickly throwing on her shoes before racing through the kitchen. Squall watched in some amusement as she skirted around Seifer, the big blonde raising an eyebrow as he watched her, apparently not sure what to think. Squall walked to the door to watch Maggie run down the sidewalk to the bus stop where several children were already waiting, waving to Maggie to hurry. Satisfied that she was safe, Squall leaned back and kept the door open.
"Out."
"If you keep saying that you’ll start to sound like a broken record." Seifer sneered, before holding up a scrap of paper in his hand. Squall recognized it as the clipping of the house that he and Maggie wanted to buy. "What’s this?"
Squall glared. "None of your business."
Seifer didn’t seem perturbed; instead he pocketed the clipping and Squall’s glare intensified.
"Give that back." He hissed, and Seifer chuckled.
"So it is of importance? Perhaps I could use it to coax you into hearing me out?"
"I’m not a whore."
"And I never said that you were." Well, not in so many words...
"You assumed."
Seifer sneered and rocked his shoulders back in their sockets, appearing imposing and making Squall regret having ever opened the door. "Going to hear me out or not? I promise it’s a valid proposition."
"Then why don’t you waste it on someone else? I have to leave."
"Job hunting I assume?" Seifer said before he smirked. "Why don’t you hear me out and then you may not have to?"
"Why don’t you just give up?"
"I was about to say the same to you. I always get my way, and I’m not going to leave you alone until you listen."
Squall would have happily ignored this man, and gone on living his life as if the blonde didn’t exist after yesterday. Yet here Seifer was, demanding his attention out from under him. How was he supposed to react?
"Make it quick."
Seifer looked delighted, and Squall immediately regretted giving in. "I've found myself in a bad situation. I’m intending to buy an automotive company, hybrid cars and all that, since it’s in a financial crisis and has enough assets that I could make a profit. However the owner of this company is a shrewd man and won’t give up the company to just anyone. He’s a family man, and also a homosexual activist. I need to get on his good side in order to go through with this."
"And this is of relevance to me, how?"
"I’m getting to it Leonhart." Seifer said, looking childishly unhappy about being interrupted. "I don’t have a family, or any form of a long-term romantic relation, especially not of the male variety, and I hardly have the time to find one since the man is coming to stay with me in my home for the holidays. I.."
"You want me to pretend to be your family."
Seifer’s delighted smirk returned as he nodded. "You’re faster then I thought. I heard that you had a child, which I suspect was who went running out the door a few minutes ago. You’re currently unattached and have..."
"I’m not doing it. Honestly I hope that the man doesn’t give you his company, after the last one that fell into your hands."
Seifer smirked, and it turned into a chuckle. "Oh Squall; I’ve heard a lot of things about you. Good looking, stubborn, overly honest and impossible to deal with. But there is one thing that you lack, Leonhart. Money."
Squall’s eyes narrowed with that statement. He had morals, standards. High ones too, but...
He was pulled out of his thoughts at the sound of something flat being dropped onto the table, and he looked down to see a cheque book. "Name your price Leonhart. How much will you sell out for?" The sneer in Seifer’s voice was apparent.
Squall waged an inner battle with himself. He was positive that he wasn’t going to do this. Maggie didn’t need to be exposed to a man that would buy a family for personal gain. Not only that, he didn’t need to be exposed to someone like Seifer. Sure he had a sell out price, but it would be far beyond what anyone would be willing to pay. "My sell out price?"
Seifer laughed. "How much money would it take before you’d help me?"
After thinking about it for a moment, Squall took the pen that had been tucked into the cheque book, pulling out a cheque he slowly wrote out the figure onto the cheque’s face. After he was done, he gave a defiant smirk as he handed the cheque to Seifer.
The blonde took it, glanced at the figure and grinned. "That’s pretty high Leonhart."
"I have morals; I won’t do it for anything less." Squall said. He turned his back and moving to find his own shoes now, satisfied that this was through.
"Deal."
Squall paused. "What?"
"For this much, one million, I’ll buy your assistance for the holidays."
"You can’t be serious!" Squall suddenly exclaimed. He had written that one million thinking that nobody would pay that price and the matter would be through with. Seifer wasn’t supposed to accept. "You could find better people to do it for half that price!"
"I could, but since Mr. Loire arrives the day after tomorrow, I simply don’t have the time. I’ll go through the basics with you this afternoon. I'll send someone to pick your daughter, Maggie was it? And then we'll go through the details tomorrow." Squall didn’t hear what most of the blonde had said, eyes narrowed as he stared at the blonde intently, trying to figure out why exactly this was happening.
He hadn’t expected Seifer to notice.
"Any particular reason you’re looking at me like a bug under a microscope?" Seifer asked with a cocked eyebrow, while he casually moved closer to Squall, leaning against the counter beside him. Squall blinked out of his daze.
"Why are you doing this? Why are you involving me?"
Seifer hesitated for a moment, as if thinking of his reply, before a gloved hand had suddenly made its way to cup Squall’s chin. Raising the brunette’s face to look up at his own, Squall was suddenly reminded of a hungry cat by Seifer’s expression.
"Something I’ve learned over the years is that people that are desperate for money will do just about anything for it." Seifer said while putting his other arm at Squall’s waist, stroking down his back towards his ass. "I wouldn’t mind someone like you doing anything for me."
Squall broke out of his shock before Seifer’s hands got much further. Within a second he had raised his leg high and kneed Seifer where it hurt the most, pushing the blonde away from him and glaring.
"I’m not desperate, I won’t do anything for money, and I am not a whore." Squall said with ice in his voice, glaring at the pained man as Seifer slowly straightened, wincing in pain as Squall noticed with satisfaction as Seifer subtly nursed his sore groin.
"We’ll see about that Leonhart." Seifer said with narrowed green eyes before he straightened completely, crossing his arms over his chest. Before Seifer could open his mouth to say something else, Squall had found his shoes, slipped them on and was walking out the door.
Seifer blinked, before turning and following. "We have to get things worked out Leonhart, now’s not time to throw a hiss fit."
Squall ignored him, and after Seifer was sure that the brunette wasn't just bluffing, Seifer growled and followed. He was surprised when he found Squall rather quickly, watching the man as he knocked on a door at the end of the hall. Leaning against the wall between Squall and the exit, Seifer decided to watch. Out of hearing distance he couldn't make out what they were saying, but Squall was looking somewhat relieved when the man shut the door.
"What was that all about?" Seifer asked when Squall walked by him without saying a word. The brunette walked right by him, the words 'none of your business' not having to be said to be heard. Almost getting used to Squall's anal nature by now, Seifer only filed in behind, not intending to leave Squall alone.
Squall walked back to his apartment, wincing when he realized that Seifer hadn't closed the door, not that either of them had been far enough away that someone would have tried to steal something anyways. When Seifer walked in a few moments after him, Squall sighed.
"If you're done, we really should be going."
Squall paused from his task of re-taping the house-clipping that Seifer had left on the table to the fridge. "Going?"
"Ah-ha. Back to my house, where you can learn everything you're going to need to know for the next while."
Squall finally sighed. "How long is this going on?"
Seifer smiled. "Mr. Loire will be arriving on the 22nd, which just happens to be my birthday. He will stay through until the 27th. That gives us two days to prepare, and five days for you to perform, and for me to seal the deal. Think you can handle it, Leonhart?"
Squall ignored the taunt. "Maggie will be out of school tomorrow." Squall was almost disappointed that he couldn't use her education as an excuse to get out of this.
"As I already said before, I'll start going over the basics with you today, and we'll finish preparing for the next two days." Seifer said, before he took a moment to look Squall over. "I'll need to get both your sizes, new clothing is necessary as nobody in my family would dress so...quaintly."
Squall sneered. "And I'm sure no one in your family would be like either me or Maggie to begin with." Seifer didn't seem to hear, or care what Squall had said.
"Pack anything that you're going to need for you or your daughter now, and meet me at Bien-mis at 12 noon." Squall scoffed at the name he recognized as a snooty, or rather "high classed" clothing store. Seifer ignored it, reaching into the pocket of his jacket and fishing in it for something. He pulled out a cell phone and handed it to Squall. "It has caller-display, don't answer any call that isn't from me." Seifer said, before he grinned a Cheshire smile, pulling out another cell phone and starting to dial a number as he walked out.
"Welcome to my world, Leonhart."
There was nothing Seifer could have said that would have been more terrifying.
---
Squall had remembered after Seifer left, that if someone went to pick Maggie up after school, and she didn't recognize them, that she wouldn't go. When she had first entered Kindergarten, the first thing that Squall had done was make sure that she had a password. So if any stranger ever came to pick her up, and didn't know the password, then she would know to run away instead of going with them. Call him over-protective, but Squall didn't care. He didn't take any chances when it came to Maggie.
So not caring if he was a little late meeting with Seifer, Squall carefully placed the two bags he had packed into the back seat of the small car that he and Selphie shared, and turned out of the parking lot and onto the street towards Maggie's school.
It was noon-hour and so Squall wasn't surprised to see most of the students running around on the playground. After parking and locking the car, Squall walked slowly up the sidewalk, searching through the wave of children to find Maggie.
"Maggie and Eric, sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes love..." Squall looked around, almost sure that he was going to find his daughter being teased, his fists clenching already, since he could already remember the taunting faces that used to sing that same damn song.
'Squall and Nida, sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Squall pushing a baby carriage. And that's not all, and that's not all. Nida made a slut of Squall. Get out the needles, and the band aids, Squally boy's been diagnosed with AIDS!"
It had only been one moment. Nida had sat close to him, and after the two had locked glances for a while, Nida had broken the stubborn silence by leaning towards Squall and nuzzling into his neck, muttering about how pretty Squall was while sliding a hand down to Squall's crotch. Squall had gasped, and when nimble fingers had managed to slip into his pants, his eyes fluttered closed and he mumbled how Nida was pretty too...
And then there were giggles, and several children jumped out of their hiding spots, laughing and pointing at Squall, Nida looking smug, as he had just made a fool of Squall, and proved all the rumors that Squall liked boys.
He was broke out of his thoughts when he heard Maggie's voice as she yelled out gleefully. "Fudge, fudge, call the judge!" Another girl's voice echoed out "Maggie's having a baby, and Eric's going crazy..." Squall ignored whatever else was being said as he found Maggie within a group of several other children her age, all of them gathered around a long jump-rope as they chanted their rhymes.
Squall's pained expression turned into a soft smile as he watched his daughter, waiting for her to be done her turn jumping before he walked closer to them. Maggie immediately saw him, letting out a happy squeal while she ran to him quickly, stopping abruptly a few feet before Squall. "Daddy? What's wrong?" Squall didn't come to her school that often, and so Squall wasn't surprised that she thought that there was something wrong.
"I need to talk to your teacher; you're going to come home early today!" Squall said before holding his hand out to Maggie, who quickly took it.
"What's going on?"
Squall thought for a few moments, not sure how to answer Maggie's question. Once they got inside the school, most of the hallways empty as all the children were outside; Squall squatted down next to his daughter. "Remember that man who was at our house this morning?" He asked, while tucking some of her hair behind her shoulder.
"Yeah..." Maggie said, tilting her head to the side curiously and the hair that Squall had so carefully tucked promptly fell back over her shoulder with the movement.
"He, he is going to give us a lot of money." Squall said, biting his lip. "A lot of money. We'll be able to get that house."
Maggie brightened. "Really? So he's not a bad man like Mommy said?"
Squall sighed, "But, we have to do something for him." Maggie gave him another curious look, and Squall sighed again. "It's, not a good thing. He doesn't have any family, and he wants to make someone think that he does. So we're going to pretend to be his family."
Maggie blinked, before she nodded. "Okay Daddy, you'll tell me what to do right?" Squall paused before he nodded and smiled. At least dealing with Maggie was easy, she trusted him so blindly, it was better then answering a lot of questions. Taking her hand, Squall smiled as he straightened. "Let's go find your teacher, ok?"
---
They were almost ten minutes late when they arrived at the large, and overly decorated building. The minute Squall entered, he felt displaced. A prim man dressed in a sharp suit looked down his nose at him, and Squall looked away. Wearing a black bomber jacket and leather pants overtop of a white t-shirt, he was dressed well, but not as extravagantly as these people.
"Oh Daddy, look at that dress!" Maggie said in awe as she stared at a dress displayed in the window. It was a child's dress, and Squall recognized it as having a Cinderella like appearance.
"It's very pretty." Squall said tightly, imagining the price tag was far more then what he made in one month.
The well-dressed man seemed to think the same thing. "Ah yes, it is a very pretty dress, however it is very expensive, and to be honest I'm not sure you can afford it, Sir, or really anything at all in this store."
Squall remained silent, before he nodded. "You're absolutely right." He said simply, before he tightened the grip around Maggie's hand, the small girl looking rather upset with the way they were being thrown out of the store.
"But, it doesn’t hurt if we look does it?" She asked, and Squall could hear her voice cracking, meaning that she was sad enough to cry. Squall was used to this type of treatment, but Maggie had never been exposed to it. Squall wanted to punch the man for making her sad.
The man was about to speak, when a drawled out voice echoed from further in the store. "Yes Piet, it doesn't hurt to look does it?"
Squall looked up to see Seifer leaning against the counter, the smug look on Seifer's face making Squall fume silently. The well dressed man, Piet, looked rather surprised. "No, I suppose not Mr. Almasy..."
"Good, because they're both with me, I would appreciate it if you treated them with the same respect as you would treat me."
Piet caught the tone in Seifer's voice and hurriedly nodded. "Yes, of course Mr. Almasy."
Seifer looked pleased with himself before he turned his attention to the dress that Maggie had been looking at. "Why don't you take that dress down, and let the young lady try it on, hm? And if it doesn't fit, make sure that you put forth all your resources to find one like it that does."
Piet nodded one more time before he turned his attention to another worker who had withdrawn from the scene to stand behind the counter. "You heard the man! Take this young lady and fit her with whatever she desires!"
The prim woman nodded quickly before she moved to Squall's side, smiling at Maggie in an overly-sweet way. "Hi there! My name is Julia, what's yours?"
Squall left Maggie with the woman who quickly got into a conversation with Maggie about dresses that looked like they were from fairy tails, and turned to see Seifer gracing him with a gloating smile.
"Only get us what we need, no more."
Seifer blinked at the simple statement. "Well Princess, I'm afraid that you'll both be needing a lot of things, and since I own this company, I'm sure they will be more than happy to get us whatever we need.
Squall shook his head. "That dress is very expensive." He said, "I don't –" Seifer cut him off.
"It's also very pretty, and I'm sure that Maggie will love it. Why not wait and see what she looks like in it before you tell her no?"
Squall sighed, touching his palm to his forehead in an exasperated manner. "Fine, whatever."
Seifer chuckled before he walked towards Squall and slipped an arm around his waist. "And what about you, Princess? Shall we find you a nice dress...?"
Squall jerked away and glared, making Seifer chuckle at the reaction he was able to win. "You'll need a suit, but nothing too formal or else it wouldn't look good." Squall looked at Seifer as though the blonde had started speaking in a foreign language, causing Seifer to laugh. "Let me guess, whatever? These guys will turn you into a doll and play dress-up until they max out my credit-card anyways. Just go with them."
Squall sighed, crossing his arms and resisting the urge to walk out right then. When Piet came towards them while giving Squall a scrutinizing look the brunette glared. After a while Piet smiled brightly. "I believe I know several things that will look stunning on this young man. Let me go get them and you can try them on in the dressing rooms." Piet said, while pointing to doors at the back where Maggie was going with 'Julia', who was carrying several dresses for the young girl to try on.
Seifer went with someone else to try on a new suit that had recently come in, and Squall was left waiting in the store uncomfortably as Piet was still gone. He heard some giggling from the dressing rooms, and turned his attention to the door as Maggie opened it and walked out. The dress she was wearing was a frosty blue. The skirt was shaped like a dome that went right to the ground, only the tips of shiny white shoes peeked out from underneath the light fabric. A white sash wrapped around her middle and tied into a pert bow at the back. White gloves that went to her elbows graced her slender arms, and there was a small cape that was around her neck, that trailed out behind her in a light flowing motion.
"Daddy Daddy, look at the dress! Isn't it pretty?" Maggie asked while giving a complementary twirl. Squall smiled fondly, rather impressed with how pretty the dress was. Squall was sure it looked much better on his daughter then it would hanging off some manikin in a window.
"Now, how could you have the heart to tell her she can't have it?" Seifer's voice echoed behind Squall in a taunting manner and the brunette turned to glare.
"It's your money; I have no right to spend it."
"But I do, so she will have it. My 'daughter' will only wear the best clothing." Squall sighed and brought a hand to his forehead again, starting to gently massage his temples. When Piet came back, his arms heaped with clothing and signaling for Squall to go to the dressing room he sighed.
"What have I gotten myself into?"
---
"Daddy did you see all the dresses I got?" Maggie asked happily from the back seat of Seifer's car. "Did you see the one with the gold and the one with angel wings on the back?"
"Yes I saw it." Squall said tightly. He had also seen the arrogant smirk on Seifer's face when Maggie had begged them to buy it. He supposed that he shouldn't be surprised. Seifer had no respect for him in the least, and there really was no reason for him to. Seifer had money, he didn't. And in Seifer's eyes that was all that mattered.
"So you think you'll be alright pretending I'm your father, Maggie?" Seifer asked while looking in the rear view mirror at the girl seated in the back. Maggie frowned for a moment, shifting underneath Seifer's gaze as though she wanted to hide, before she meekly nodded. "If Daddy can do it then I can too."
Squall wasn't so sure he could do it. The brunette made a mental note to talk to Maggie about all this privately afterwards.
He was broke out of his thoughts when they drove into a drive way that had a gate across it, large marble pillars on either side. Seifer pressed a button on the top of the visor and the gate snapped open and slid out of the way, the blonde driving the car through.
"Daddy, look at the big house!" Maggie shouted from the back, instantly in awe of the large marble mansion. There was a large front yard that Squall was sure nobody used, a fountain in the middle of the driveway that Squall was sure nobody sat near. As soon as the car stopped there was a scrambling in the back seat as Maggie got out of the car to start looking around. Squall sighed, suddenly feeling exhausted.
"Hey Leonhart, don't die on me." Seifer said, and Squall blinked in annoyance as the blonde waved a hand in front of his face as if he had been staring. Maybe he had been, he hadn't noticed.
"Shut up."
"C'mon Princess, play nice. We still have a lot to go over before the day is done."
"Stop calling me Princess."
"Why should I?" Seifer asked, and Squall turned to look at the blonde at the childish voice Seifer used. He wasn't surprised to see that Seifer was pouting. "I'll call you whatever I want. And you can be thankful that it's not something like baby-cakes." Squall winced, Seifer beamed.
Suddenly Squall felt a hand on his thigh, and looked down to see Seifer's hand sliding quickly up it. He didn't even have a chance to open his mouth to protest before Seifer had suddenly gotten from his own seat to Squall's, roughly pressing his lips to Squall's neck and squeezing his hip with the hand that wasn't trying to undo his pants.
"Princess..." Seifer muttered huskily into Squall's ear, causing the brunette to shiver.
"Get off me." Squall said firmly, grabbing onto Seifer's hands with his own and pulling them away from his body. Seifer allowed that form of escape but didn't move from his position of kneeling awkwardly over them, his lips still trailing down Squall's neck.
"I don't want to..." That same childish voice and Squall growled.
"Get off me now, or you can drive me back home and that will be the end of this."
Seifer didn't say anything for a moment, his lips not breaking their connection with Squall's skin before he snarled as he returned to his own seat. "Lighten up Princess, it's not like you wouldn’t enjoy it too."
Squall didn't say anything; instead he reached for the door-handle and got out of the car to follow after Maggie without giving the blonde a second glance.
