Chapter 2
Poisoned Isolation: Part Two
Cid sat quietly amongst his friends happily. Hadn’t felt this good in a long time. He was far from well but he was much better. Vincent brought a chair over to where Cid was sitting swinging his legs over it sit.
“When everyone goes home I have something I want to talk to you about.” Vincent whispered so only Cid could hear. The blonde nodded his acknowledgement. Vincent slipped his hand over and squeezed pilot’s causing Cid to turn back to the gunman. Cid thought that the look in the tall mans eyes had more emotion in them then he’d ever seen them. He squeezed back Vincent gracing him with a brilliant smile. Cid felt warm inside and closed his eyes taking in the warmth he had be longing for.
Hours later he woke into darkness. At first he panicked thinking he was alone in his house but soon remembered he was in Vincent’s home. He was still sitting in the chair and a blanket was wrapped around him. Glancing around the room Cid spotted a sleeping figure in a chair across from him. Taking a chance Cid stood then wobbled but not falling. Again taking another chance he made his way slowly to the sleeping gunman. His stomach rumbling loudly as he poked Vincent in the side. Vincent shifted in his sleep but did not wake.
“Vincent?”
“Vincent!”
“Vincent!!” The third time’s a charm. Vincent woke abruptly staring at the pilot standing over him.
“Cid!” he exclaimed.
“What are you doing walking around?” The gunman sat up reaching for the blonde.
“I’m hungry Vincent and I don’t think I could walk to the kitchen by myself much less walk to get anything.” Standing Vincent took Cid by the arm and helped him into the kitchen. Opening the refrigerator the raven haired man pulled out a pot sitting it on the counter.
“ Tifa made this for you after you fell asleep. I now its soup but its what you need.”
“ That’s ok Vince. I’m just really hungry.” Vincent heated a bowl for Cid and placed it before him. Cid smiled up at Vincent.
“Thanks.” Cid picked up the spoon and began to eat. Vincent was relieved to find the pilot hungry and feeding himself. It seemed he improved a lot in the short time he had been there.
“I see you are feeling better.” Cid looked up.
“Yeah I am. My heads not foggy anymore.” Vincent furrowed his eyebrows.
“What do you mean by that Cid?” The blonde set the spoon down.
“I don’t know. Sometimes when I was at home alone I would wake up and not know where or who I was. I haven’t been as lucid as I am now in a long time. There were many days where I would drift in and out. I don’t even know what month or day it is. I’m sorry to be a burden but just don’t send me back to Rocket Town.” The last few words bothered the dark man.
“Cid I would never send you back. When we found you I couldn’t tell you how upset I was. To see you in such a condition was heart breaking. I’m going to figure out what happened to you. I have many question that I need to find the answers for.” Vincent turned away not wanting to show the emotion on his face. Cid picked up his spoon and continued to eat. Vincent sat down across from him and became lost in thought. Cid smiled to himself glad he was with the gunman.

A week had passed since the two members of avalanche had rescued the pilot from misery. Vincent was glad Cid was doing better. He was walking now but only very short distances. He still gave Vincent some trouble when it came to food and had only gotten sick a few times. For the most part everything was going good. They were outside, Cid sitting watching Vincent do some work on the outside of the house when from a distance they heard a voice.
“Cid!” Shera’s voice rang across the yard. They both turned to face the woman. She nodded to Vincent then looked at Cid with big tearful eyes.
“I’m so sorry Cid. I should have never said the things I did. I can’t begin to apologized for everything I said.” She dropped to her knees before the wide eyed pilot.
“Is there anyway you could ever forgive me? I would do anything. I don’t know why I snapped but please I’m so sorry Cid.” By now tears were streaming down her face. Vincent stood to the side watching silently. Cid slowly placed a hand on Shera’s shoulder.
“Shera I’ve been thinking. There are a million reasons for you to hate me but I’m glad you came back. I owe you an apology too. I’m sorry for treating you like dirt.” She smiled up at him and threw her arms around his neck hugging him tightly. Vincent snorted in his mind. What right did she have to hug Cid, she who abandoned him. Shera stood and turned to Vincent.
“Hello Vincent. How are you?” The gunman sighed in his head. He had never cared much for Shera but he spoke out of politeness.
“I’m doing fine. Its nice to see you again.” She nodded tears fully gone and no redness around her eyes. Something Vincent thought was very strange.
“Vincent I am ready to go inside. Do you mind?”
“No Cid of course not.” Vincent made his way to the pilot and Cid took his arm making their way to the house, Shera following close behind.
“Oh Cid are you alright? What happened.” Once Vincent had safely helped Cid to a chair did the blonde speak.
“I’ve been very sick for a long time. Vincent and Yuffie came and got me a week ago. Vincent has been taking care of me ever since.” The gunman sat down in the seat closest to the pilot.
“I wish I had known I would have come sooner.” Cid waved a hand.
“Its ok. So where have you been all this time?” He asked curiously.
“Well I went and stayed with my brother Jerick, you remember him. The one you got into a drunken brawl with.” she smiled.
“Yeah I remember.” Cid laughed.
“Anyway I stayed there until I came back to the house but you were not there. So the only place I could think of was here in Edge. It took me several days to find where you all were living. Edge is such a big town.” Vincent not listening. In his mind he repeated the same things over and over. There was something going on. Shera was so fake. He didn’t know what say about it but he would definitely be keeping an eye on her.
“ …you mind?” The gunman only caught the last part as he looked up at them.
“I’m sorry. What was that?” Cid laughed.
“Its not like you to be lost in thought Vin. Do you mind if Shera stays for a week or two?” She nodded vigorously.
“I can help you with Cid.” Cid looked down at the floor.
“That way I wouldn’t be so much of a burden on you.” Vincent looked up in surprise.
“ Cid you are not a burden to me and I don’t wan to hear you say it again.”
“So does that mean no?” the pilot remained looking at the floor. The tall man grimaced mentally. He really didn’t wan the woman around but he would feel bad for telling Cid no.
“Its fine Cid. There is an extra room right now. She can take that one.” Cid lifted his head smiling at the raven haired man. The day passed rather quick as Cid and Shera caught up on things. After awhile Shera stood.
“Its getting late. Do you mind if I make us all something to eat?”
“Sure.” Vincent replied just wanting to get the woman out of the room. As she made her way into the kitchen Cid called to her.
“Hey Sher could you fix that one dish with the rice that I like?” Shera popped her head around the door and smiled.
“Sure Cid.” When she was gone Cid sighed and leaned back further in his chair.
“Are you alright Cid?” Inquired Vincent. Cid yawned slightly.
“Yeah I’m just tired. After we eat I think I’m going to go to bed. I’m really glad she came back.” The gunman smiled for Cid’s sake.
“I’m glad you are happy.” Cid looked up at him.
“What makes me most happy is being here with you.” He quickly closed his eyes to avoid the tall man’s stare. Vincent couldn’t help but be pleased that the pilot enjoyed his company.
Forty-five minutes later, Shera called them into the dinning room. The table was set and food already on the plates.
“The table was to small for the whole dish so I hope I put enough on each plate. If I remember correctly Vincent doesn’t eat much so I put a smaller portion one plate. She took her seat and Cid and Vincent followed. The gunman helped Cid into the chair then took his own. They began to eat keeping a steady conversation. Halfway through dinner Cid put his fork down and stopped eating, Vincent noticing this stopped as well.
“Cid are you alright?” He asked worriedly.
“I don’t know.” He replied looking pale. Vincent stood and walked to him, bending down to look the pilot in the face.
“Are you going to be sick?” Cid shook his head yes. Vincent picked the pilot up and quickly made his way to the bathroom, only making it just in time. Shera was right behind them. She pulled a washcloth from the cabinet and wet it with warm water handing it to Vincent. The gunman wiped the pilot’s face. Cid smiled weakly at him.
“Thanks Vin. I thing I should lay down now.” Once again lifting the blonde he walked to the bed and deposited on the comforter.
“I’ll take it from here Shera. I need to change his clothes.” She nodded leaving the room. Vincent walked to get the black pajamas and returned quickly dressing the ill man. Cid looked up at him as Vincent brought the comforter and sheet over him.
“I’m sorry Vince.” Vincent patted his arm.
“Don’t worry Cid. You’ve done nothing wrong. I’ll be here to watch over you all night so just rest ok.” Cid looked very pale to Vincent and he wondered what had brought the sickness back. After Cid had fallen asleep he walked into the living room where Shera was sitting. She looked up and stood as he shut the door.
“Is he alright?”
“He is asleep.”
“I’ll watch over him tonight so you can get some rest.” Vincent shook his head no.
“I will watch over Him. I have already told him so. I just wanted to let you know he is alright for now.” He turned not allowing her to respond and went back into the room, settling down on the couch. Vincent sat thinking hard on what could have caused Cid to become so sick so quick.
Some time later Vincent woke to Cid calling him. He couldn’t remember falling asleep but he jerked up and rushed to the bed.
“Cid what?” Cid reached out and grabbed Vincent’s shirt.
“I’m going to be sick again.” Vincent quickly picked the trash can up from beside he bed. A few seconds later Cid was throwing up again. The gunman made sure that this time the pilot didn’t get any on him. After he finished Vincent went to get a warm washcloth and returned to tend to the ill man. Cid leaned into the warmth of the cloth. Vincent folded the cloth and placed it around the pilot’s neck.
“I’ll be right back.” He turned to the trash and tied up the bag, taking it outside. Once back in the room he replaced the bag with a new one.
“Vin?” Vincent kneeled on the floor beside Cid.
“Yes.” Cid reached form the man and caught his hand latching onto it.
“Stay right here. Don’t leave.” Vincent was now extremely worried about the pilot. Cid had never been clingy.
“Don’t worry Cid I will not leave your side.” Cid pulled Vincent’s hand close to his face and fell back to sleep, all the while Vincent smiling to himself.
