Zell's
eyes twitched when he heard what Seifer was implying and not that he
would admit it, the older blond's comment did kind of sting. Zell
hated being called stupid, hating people thinking less of him as it
was apparent Seifer did. Instead of shooting a comeback, Zell turned
away from Seifer and buried his face against his pillow.
Changed
after the war my ass. He's still the biggest jerk as he ever was.
Zell knew that he was pouting,
but he really didn't care.
Seifer
clinched his fists after he had put the baby back down. I
really do not know how to stop shooting up my defensive wall, the
blond thought. Mean things always seemed to come naturally out of his
lips and usually directed toward Zell. Seifer had learned a lot after
the war and was not ready to admit to anyone that he actually cared
what people thought of him. He hadn't cared before the war, but now
he did. Everyone hated him and feared him, and not because he was a
bully. They actually thought he was evil.
They
would probably die if they found out more about the real
Seifer. He put up an act all the
time, like Squall, this was his way to keep people away from him, to
keep himself from being hurt. He was tired of it though, and also
like Squall, he was starting to break a little.
The
blond was actually a little jealous of his rival for already having
people who cared about him and for finally starting to let his ice
melt. It seemed easy for the brunette gunblader. Seifer secretly
admired how far he had come. He would soon die before saying that out
loud.
Seifer
was just not ready to start baking cookies and giving to the poor so
openly yet. He knew it was going to take baby steps.
Step
one... stop saying mean things to Zelly. Seifer
smirked. The idea of Zell's reaction to him being nice was rather
amusing. He had to admit that it was cute when the younger blond
looked confused. I'm not about to start calling him “dear”
, Seifer told himself. He felt
silly that he really was clueless about how to make friends with his
classmate. How did one mend a crack in the wall that had been
spreading for longer then a decade?
“Stop
pouting,” Seifer started. Oh yeah, that sounded nice.
“I obviously know you're
not stupid.” That's better, I guess.
Zell
blinked a few times, not quite sure what had possessed Seifer into
correcting what he had said. Seifer never did that; he never said
sorry as far as Zell knew. “Uh...” Zell wasn't sure what
to say to the older blond.
“I'm
not pouting,” Zell finally said.
Seifer
chuckled, the sound alien to Zell; it actually sounded genuine.
“Okay, if you say so.”
“I
really am not pouting,” Zell defended.
“Goodnight...
Zelly.”
He
actually said my name.... at least a version of it. Since when does
Seifer say my name like that? Zell
thought. Seifer always called him Chicken Wuss. “Goodnight
Seifer,” Zell murmured back.
The
day had really turned out quite odd indeed.
Zell
ran into Selphie, both small teenagers fell to the ground. Luckily
for them nobody was around to laugh at their clumsiness. They were
supposed to be these great fighters and Zell a martial artist at
that, yet in every day life, they were very clumsy.
“Watch
it!” Selphie complained. She fixed her skirt so that she wasn't
showing her panties off to anyone who happened by. She half heartedly
glared up at Zell. “You made me drop Gigi.”
“Who's
Gigi?” Zell asked as he helped the girl up.
Selphie
bent over and picked up her home economics doll. “This is Gigi!
If I get a bad grade for child abuse I will be so mad!”
Zell
laughed. “You named your doll?”
“My
child!” Selphie exclaimed. “Squall and my baby.”
“Squall
must be so proud,” Zell snickered. “Where is he?”
Selphie
sighed. “Daddy Squall is on some sort of mission when in fact I
think he is cheating on me.” Selphie's face looked serious, but
now she was just joking. Zell would believe anything and it was
amusing.
“Selph...
this is all pretend.” Zell put a hand on the girl's forehead as
if worried for her sanity. “Squall isn't really your husband,
you know? With the pants he wears, I'd bet he was gay.”
“So
you're saying that he's cheating with you then?”
“I'M
NOT THE ONLY GAY GUY HERE...” Zell yelled, before slapping a
hand over his mouth. His eyes wide, they darted around, but
thankfully the two were still alone. Zell glanced at Selphie, annoyed
that she had started to laugh.
“What's
so funny now?” Zell asked.
“I
was only joking. I know Squall is kidding himself by dating Rinoa.”
“Selphie!
I'd kill you if I could get away from it. I thought you were serious.
Rinoa would probably kill you too if she thought you were serious.”
Selphie
giggled. “I don't know about that... Oh hey, where's the
husband and your baby?” Selphie never was one to have a good
attention span.
Zell
actually blushed, before rolling his eyes. “Seifer,” He
stressed, “Is not my husband. I don't know where they are and
nor do I care.... sorta.”
“Sorta?”
“He's
started to act weird,” Zell mumbled. “At least when we're
alone.”
“What
do you mean?” Selphie asked. “He's not gay, is he?”
Zell
groaned. “Does every man have to be gay?”
“Only
the men I'm not interested in,” Selphie laughed. “Okay,
okay, being serious, what do you mean weird?”
“Like...
nice.”
“Nice?”
Selphie said that like she didn't know what the word meant.
“Kind.”
“Kind?”
Zell
waved a hand in front of Selphie's face. “See you think it's
weird too. Your eyes are about to bug out of your head.” It was
true; Selphie's eyes were as wide as saucers and Zell didn't
understand why she was grinning.
“I
was right. I was right. Go me! Go me!” Selphie started to
chant. She jumped up and down, hugging Gigi tightly. The doll started
to cry.
“Shhhhhh!”
Selphie cooed. To Zell the sound was kind of scary, but the doll
stopped crying.
“You
were right about what? Now why are you being weird? I mean weirder
then usual.”
“NOTHING!”
Selphie yelled. She covered the dolls ears, but the sensor was in
it's stomach, so it started to cry yet again. Selphie groaned. “Be
quiet Gigi! Daddy will be home soon!”
“Please
Hyne, don't let her have any real children,” Zell muttered.
“What?”
Selphie asked.
“Nothing.”
