Reno frowned as he shut down his EMR, his eyes flickering about the rooftops as he waited for Rude.
Within seconds, the burly man climbed over the edge of the building his partner was waiting on, and casually stepped over several cuffed and unconscious bodies as he approached the smaller man. “There’s three more down there.”
“That’s all of ‘em, then,” commented the redhead before looking up at his partner. “I called the boss already. He’s sendin’ a clean-up crew. He wants us to report to him as soon as we get them in order, yo.”
The bald man nodded, watching the younger Turk with something akin to concern. “Was he here again?”
“Yep;” Reno pointed his cooling EMR towards a dark alcove high on another building, “He disappeared right there. Definitely not a professional, but still pretty good.”
Rude’s eyes narrowed behind his shades as he looked at the dark alcove. “Wish we knew what the hell he wanted.”
The redhead sighed and looked down at the nearest unconscious man, who was still twitching from the electric shock the scrawny Turk had given him; “Me too, Aibou.”
Over the past two weeks or so, someone had been taking an unusual interest in the pair’s work…at least, that had appeared to be the case. Throughout the course of that time, the two Turks had kept an eye on the person who clearly though he was being covert. He never made contact beyond watching, and no threats or warnings tied in with his sudden appearance.
After the second time the man had vanished when he was caught watching them, he had appeared again when they were not on duty, and once again, fled quietly before he could be spotted, or so he clearly thought.
Reno had discovered the mysterious character following him while he was alone and off duty on several occasions as well, however, both Rude and Tseng had discouraged him from trying to confront the man while he was alone.
The redhead managed to successfully dismiss thoughts of the unknown man, who was actually starting to worry him, although he would not mentioned that to his partner or boss, until Rude brought the subject up again later that day:
“He was watching Reno again,” commented the bald Turk when they were reporting to their superior after the clean up on the roof. He did not need to say whom he was referring to, “While he was alone on the roof.”
Tseng glanced at Rude, as though passing some sort of silent communication, before turning his gaze to Reno. “Is that true?”
“Well, if you call fightin’ half a dozen terrorists ‘alone’, yeah,” replied the blue-eyed man. “He disappeared without any communication like always; right before Rude showed up.”
“Could Rude’s arrival have caused his sudden departure?” questioned the dark-eyed man.
“It’s possible. Rude does tend to scare off the wannabe bad asses, yo.” The redhead took in his superior’s focused stare attentively, “Whatcha thinking’ Boss-man?”
The raven-haired man pulled a file -one that was completely unrelated to the incident they were supposed to be debriefing him on- from the edge of his desk and flipped through it, looking thoughtful. “None of my other subordinates have reported any similar experiences as of late, and neither has anyone else in ShinRa. Actually, there is nothing to suggest that this individual is interested in ShinRa at all.”
Rude frowned and Reno arched an eyebrow, “So…?”
Their superior sighed and looked at the redhead, “I don’t believe this has anything to do with ShinRa, Reno. I think this individual is strictly interested in you personally.” Rude stiffened slightly in his chair beside Reno, and Tseng appeared more concerned than he would usually show around his subordinates. “Can you think of any reason for someone to take such an interest in you?”
The blue-eyed youth frowned lightly and shook his head, “No…everything I do that pisses people off is for work, yo. Off duty, I’m usually just with Rude, Rod, or Cissnei, or hangin’ around home by myself.”
“What about before Turk?” questioned the Wutain man, folding his hands together on the file before him. “Could it be an old grudge?”
“You already know all the important stuff,” replied the redhead, clearly straining to remember anything of use. “Yeah, I asked a few too many questions…and I trespassed a little, yo…but all that was taken care of back then.” Reno subconsciously fingered one of the twin scars on his face, both of which had been tattooed over long before. “There aren’t any old scores to settle…least, not against me. I don’t have any important connections or anything…and I haven’t heard of any freaks around that would target someone like me. I’m not exactly an easy mark, you know.”
Tseng nodded, and then leaned back in his chair slightly, looking deep in thought before meeting his subordinate’s eyes once again and asking quietly, “Have you learned anything of your brother or father recently?”
The blue-eyed Turk shook his head, looking away from the others in the room. “No; I think the PI I got lookin’ for Lae just changes the date on the same damn report now.” Reno frowned and then looked at his boss again, “I’ve never cared about my old man, yo…never even asked about him. I only know as much as I do ‘cause of Lae and old rumours I couldn‘t avoid as a kid. You know that;” he added the last with a slightly quizzical tone.
“I do,” the raven-haired man agreed with another slight nod. “I’m just trying to think of anything that might explain your new stalker. As you have made clear, in your own way, there is no practical reason for anyone to target you specifically. I don’t like not understanding someone’s reasoning for prowling after one of my men.” His dark eyes shifted to the other man in the room, “Rude, what are your thoughts on this?”
“I don’t like it either,” replied the burly man, flicking his gaze to his partner from behind his dark glasses before returning it to his superior. “Just because the guy seems to be working solo and doesn’t have any connections doesn’t mean he isn’t dangerous. There are a lot of freaks out there, sir. They aren’t always smart and they don’t always have a reason.”
“That is true,” agreed Tseng quietly, as though to himself, before raising his voice slightly. “I took the liberty of mentioning all of this to the president, and he has made it clear that he does not want an incident. So, Rude, stick close to your partner, and Reno,” the older man’s eyes flickered over the redhead before he turned his attention to him fully, with a slight frown line forming between his brows. “Reno?”
The blue-eyed youth had been frowning, practically scowling, at the wall before his attention snapped back to his boss. “Yes, sir?”
Both Rude and Tseng’s eyebrows rose slightly at the younger man’s response. They glanced at one another quickly before eldest finally responded, “Is something wrong?” Knowing that would not get the desired response, Tseng amended his question immediately, “What were you just thinking?”
Reno seemed to be struggling to explain his thoughts coherently, and began slowly; “I’ve dealt with plenty of freaks, yo. I’m not gettin’ that feelin’ with this guy. Yeah, I don’t like being watched…and I really don’t like the way he always seems to be able to find me, but none of the usual warnin’ bells are goin’ off. I mean- there’s something buggin’ me about him, but it isn’t like the usual feelin’ I get when someone’s about to hurt me, you know? I’m not sayin’ he’s harmless or anything- ‘cause I think he’s far from it, yo. I just don’t think he’s out to chop me up into little pieces or something. Am I makin’ any sense?”
Rude and Tseng shared another quick glance -both recognising that Reno’s speech reverted further from propriety as he spoke and knowing what that implied- before both nodded to the redhead. Then, Tseng spoke again, “I believe so, Reno. You don’t perceive this to be the usual type of threat, I understand, but it sounds as though you do feel jeopardized in some way. Is that correct?”
After another brief internal struggle, the younger man replied in an offhanded manner, “Yeah.”
Tseng and Rude shared one more glance, this one longer than its predecessors. They both knew how much the current situation must have been bothering their comrade for him to admit that much, despite his casual tone.
“If you’d like,” the raven-haired man began cautiously, “I could arrange-”
“I don’t want any time off or special treatment, Boss,” the redhead calmly interrupted. “Can’t we just wait and see if we can figure anything more out? He can’t just watch me forever, right?”
“That’s what I’m worried about,” Tseng spoke quietly, with an unfamiliar emotion tinting his eyes. Within the span of a heartbeat, it was gone and his voice had regained its usual strength. “All right, Reno. I’ll trust you to handle this on your own for now, but do not try anything reckless. Unless either of you have something to add to your report, you are dismissed.”
Both of the subordinates offered a respectful nod before standing. Rude, being closer to the office door, opened it and allowed his partner to pass through first, as usual. Just before the larger man closed the door behind him, he heard his superior say his name and paused, looking back into the room. The look Tseng fixed him with caused chills to run down the normally immovable man’s back, and not in the pleasant way that Reno often caused.
“Watch his back, Rude.” Tseng’s voice was as commanding as ever, but there was a touch of constraint to it that Rude rarely heard. The raven-haired man glanced at the clock on his office wall before he began to gather the files on his desk. “If the situation has not improved by the week’s end, or if Reno’s new admirer gives us any reason for further alarm, then I’ll be sending both of you on an assignment out of the city.”
Rude nodded, “Understood, sir. Thank you.”
“Thank you,” Tseng nodded slightly as he stood with his papers. “Now, you are dismissed. Go find your partner and don‘t let him out of your sight.”
“Yes, sir.” Rude had not actually needed to receive that order, but he appreciated knowing that Tseng was just as concerned as he was. Fortunately for him, between their close working relationship and even tighter personal relationship, it was far from abnormal for him and Reno to go days at a time without ever leaving each other’s presence. He could easily watch his partner this way for the entire week before the redhead would have a reason to suspect something, and even if he did, the younger man would probably just assume that his partner was defensive about the situation, and not following orders.
That evening, both Turks lay awake, silent and unmoving as the larger man curled around the younger.
“I know you’re awake, Aibou,” Reno murmured after a few hours of feigning sleep and allowing his partner to do the same.
“How’s that?” questioned Rude rather than attempting to deny the fact.
“’Cause, somehow, none of your siblings or former bed mates felt the need to inform you that you snore…it’s a dead giveaway anytime you fake sleep.”
The bald man nodded and tightened his grip on the smaller man, “I doubt anyone else would know that anyway, just like I doubt anyone else would know you were awake all this time either.”
“Prob’ly not,” muttered the redhead as he wrapped an arm over Rude’s; “How can you tell anyway?”
“I never mentioned your tendency to burrow…I guess no one else has either.”
“The only one ’sides you who's seen me sleep that I know of is my brother and I might not've done it back then,” commented the blue-eyed man. “Well, I did crash at Tseng’s for a coupla weeks when I first came up from the slums. I’d be surprised if he didn’t notice.”
The older man made a sound of agreement as he stroked his partner’s side languidly. Then he began tracing the tattoo under his hand without having to look at it; he knew the smaller body as well as his own.
“You thinkin’ about earlier, in Tseng’s office?” questioned Reno after a moment.
“I don’t like it.” The brawny man slid his arm around the redhead’s waist again and pulled the smaller body flush against his own, tucking Reno’s head under his chin so that he felt his jaw press into the thick hair as he continued. “He’d have acted or moved onto an easier target by now unless he wants you…and wants you alive for something.”
Reno managed to squirm around so that he was facing his partner, and placed a quick kiss on the broad chest before him. “Well too bad, ‘cause he can’t have me. I’m already spoken for, yo.”
“Damn right.” Rude tightened his arm around the younger man’s waist as he rolled onto his back, leaving the redhead with no choice but to roll with him.
Reno pillowed his head against the tanned chest without complaint, and began ghosting his fingers over the patch of hair there while Rude stroked his back. After a moment of comfortable silence, the redhead raised his head to look at his partner with a small grin.
Rude moved one hand to place it against the redhead’s cheek, and smiled slightly as he brushed an errant strand of bright hair away from his partner’s eyes. “Well since neither of us are sleeping, why don‘t we take our minds off this shit?”
The blue-eyed youth smirked, “Need a reminder that I’m still right here?”
“Mm-hmm.”
As soon as the sound passed the brawny man’s lips, he found himself relieved of his boxers before Reno completely changed his position in a few quick yet graceful motions. Rude was lying as he had been, but instead of having the wiry redhead pressed against him, he now found a pair of knees on either side of his ribs as the same svelte form rested over his torso. Then, all thoughts were swept away by a talented mouth working over his now fully erect member as a pale, perfect rear-end was presented over his chest.
By the slow, teasing pace and soft, playful licks and kisses that Reno was lavishing on him, Rude knew that his wiry lover did not intend for him to release this way, but was merely getting him ready for what was to come. The burly man leaned forward slightly and gripped Reno’s firm pale buttocks, deciding to likewise prepare and torture the redhead. Using his hands, tongue, lips, and teeth, the large Turk did everything he knew would drive the younger man into a frenzy, yet for all his writhing and moaning, Reno was not the first to lose his resolve.
“Re- Ah…Reno,” Rude was swollen, dripping, and hilt deep into the redhead’s throat, causing him to be well past the point of formulating anything resembling a complete sentence. “Can’t wait, ah… Want you…now.”
The redhead slid his mouth up the length of the burly man’s member before pressing a slow, firm kiss to the tip and pulling away enough to speak. “Good, ’cause I want you in me now…”
Reno sat up straight and slid forward so that he straddling Rude’s hips. Without any preamble, he reached behind him to grasp the large man’s swollen erection and positioned himself over it, then, he turned his head to look back at Rude over his shoulder. Blue eyes remained locked on hazel as the younger man’s pale form slowly lowered, forcing the bald man’s hardened member into him.
Rude released a loud growl at the tight, hot sensation of filling Reno -who released a low moan- and gripped the sheets tightly until both adjusted to their union. As soon as he felt Reno relax slightly, the brawny man grabbed the redhead’s hips and helped him rise and fall onto him repeatedly for what very well could have been hours.
Thoughts passed through Rude’s mind too quickly to grasp over the pleasure coursing through him. The words fuck, Reno, and mine, were the most prominent, but the bald man was completely unaware that he had growled out such words between the groans and moans he was making until Reno purred out a response between his own softer moans and gasps.
“Th-that’s right…’M all yours…ah!”
The redhead gasped several times, each breath holding a brief cry of pleasure, before he called out Rude’s name just as the large man felt him clench around his member while he came hard. Growling out Reno’s name and squeezing pale hips hard enough to bruise, the brawny man found his own release immediately.
Neither man moved for a moment while they caught their breaths. Once Reno trusted his legs to work, he lifted himself off the larger man, and Rude immediately and soundlessly moved to help him before pulling the redhead down and kissing him soundly. Once they were both breathless once again, Rude allowed his partner to roll over before spooning him.
Rude felt more than heard the younger man’s contended sigh, as his arm was pulled tighter around his partner’s slender form. “Mm…like it when you get like this,” he murmured sleepily, “Like a big cuddly gorilla, yo.”
The brawny man chuckled lightly, but made no comment, having long gotten used to Reno’s sleepy-talk. Sometimes he still lay awake for hours thinking on the oddly endearing comments the shorter man made just before falling asleep. That night, however, he remained awake with other, much less enjoyable thoughts.
Rude simply held the blue-eyed youth for the first hour, watching him as though he would disappear at any time; then, he shifted to see that each window visible from their bedroom had the curtains drawn tight. They were on the top floor of their building, but heights did not seem to matter to whoever had been following his wiry partner for the past couple of weeks. The hazel-eyed man felt something nuzzle up against his side and looked down to see Reno shifting in his sleep to close the gap Rude had inadvertently created between them.
The bald man pulled the sheets over them and wrapped himself around the shorter man once again. Reno managed to burrow his head under one of the burly man’s arms while wrapping both of his own around the other. Rude stroked the redhead’s back and pulled him even closer. “You feel it to, don’t you, little man?” He whispered, “Whoever that is, he’s getting closer. Well, don’t worry about it, Reno; you were right before…he can’t have you.”
The smaller Turk shifted again, and Rude fell asleep feeling his lover's breath ghost over his chest.
Later the next morning, Reno suddenly turned into an alleyway as the pair headed for work. Rude followed the younger man without breaking stride, and waited quietly when they finally stopped after circling half a block via a network of back alleys.
Reno was facing an older building, an appeared to be studying it even as he turned his face towards his partner and tiled it up slightly to look at him. He spoke so softly that Rude had to resort to reading his lips, “He’s here, yo.” Blue eyes flickered as though glancing behind him.
The large Turk gave the smallest of nods and lowered his voice as well, “Remember, nothing too reckless.”
The redhead nodded before taking a deep breath, as though preparing for something. His voice was pitched normally when he spoke again, “I’m gonna check something out here, Aibou. Why don’t you go ahead and clock in?”
“Reno…” Rude ceased any protest when he took in the blue-eyed youth’s appearance: Reno’s posture was relaxed, even slightly slouched, and his expression remained calm as he met Rude’s eyes languidly, but his eyes were bright and alert. There was something in the way the smaller man was looking at him, though. It was as though he were asking something of Rude without words.
“Just cover me, all right?” Reno questioned aloud, making it sound like he simply wanted his partner to make his excuses should anyone at work notice his absence. However, the brawny man understood what the redhead was doing now.
The game was on, but Reno was playing it as safely as he could.
The bald man nodded, “Always do, little man.”
The redhead offered a subtle smile, “I know, yo. Thanks, Aibou.”
After another brief nod -that looked like a simple farewell to anyone else, but which Rude was sure Reno would read as watch your scrawny ass- Rude left the alleyway and headed in the direction of the new ShinRa main building. Once he was sure he was no longer in the line of sight of Reno’s stalker, the burly man ducked down another alley and started to double back towards his partner, as quickly and quietly as possible, hoping the route would not take too long to get there.
Rude pulled out his cell phone as he moved, calling the second number on his auto-dial without pausing to look at the screen. He hoped there would not be any need for aid, but he wanted it ready anyway.
Meanwhile, Reno climbed up over fifty yards of fire escapes, until he was standing on the roof of the building Rude had left him next to. He kept his expression neutral and his stance casual, with his posture loose and his left hand in his pocket. One of the advantages he had found of generally being written off as a slob or slacker was that no one outside of Turk ever questioned why he tended to wear clothes that appeared just slightly too big…they also never questioned where his EMR went when it was not strapped to his wrist.
Fingering the strap of the weapon hidden in his trousers, the young man glanced around the neighbouring rooftops. “C’mon…I know you’re here, yo,” he said quietly, more to keep himself focused than for anyone to hear, “Just come out. I‘m no good at this cat-and-mouse shit…”
Well-trained ears caught the sound of fabric rustling in the shadows near a water tank on the next building over. Blue eyes caught the silhouette of something moving in said shadows. Reno turned to face the probable threat head on. This time, he made sure the other man could hear him; “C’mon, man…you didn’t go through all the trouble of findin’ me and followin’ me for nothing. Let’s get this over with.”
A low, ironic chuckle sounded from the shadows the redhead was watching, before a tall, lean figure wearing a brown coat with a deep hood -pulled up to hide its wearer’s face, Reno noted- stepped out slowly. Black leather pants stretched slightly as the man moved and heavy boots thudded against the concrete building. The man raised his hands and slowly clapped several times while he approached the building’s edge. Reno likewise walked to the edge of the neighbouring building, until the two men were separated by only the meter or so that divided the buildings on which they were standing.
Reno glared at the taller man, “What do you want, yo?”
The other man made a sound of bitter amusement, “You’ve still got that stupid nervous tic? Man, I thought Turk would have broken you of that but good by now. Still a runt too, I see…I guess any dog will do if it’s smart enough to train, though.”
The blue-eyed youth’s glare hardened. Half of the other Turks had yet to figure out how he showed anxiety, and no one, save the president or Rude, got away with commenting on his size deficiency. In a flash, the young man had his weapon out and ready as he assumed a fighting stance. He did not know enough about his opponent to know if denying would be futile or even harmful, so he decided to show that, uneasy or not, he was Turk for a reason. “I’m not gonna ask again, yo: What do you want?”
“To see if it’s possible to make up for lost time,” the hooded head shifted as though the wearer were sizing up the redhead. “…Or to at least make good on an old promise.”
“Okay…so this is revenge for something?” asked Reno, calming notably, “Fine. I’m not gonna make it easy, but I get it. Want to tell me who or what you’re gettin’ revenge for, or do you wanna just get to it?”
“Heh, barely legal and you’ve already pissed off enough people to so readily accept that someone’s out to take revenge against you,” the tall man shook his head and placed one hand on his hip. “Man…you’ve been through some shit, haven’t you, Kiddo?”
The shorter man paused, vague recognition flickering in his eyes at the last word the other spoke. It had been years since anyone had called him that…actually, it had been since his brother left him, he realised. He was considering asking the stranger if he knew Lae, when the man suddenly acted.
It was one of the swiftest castings Reno had ever witnessed; before even he could react, his left forearm was on fire. Fortunately, the spell was a weak one and he was fast, so he had dropped his EMR and yanked off his jacket before any permanent damage could be inflicted.
In the corner of his eye, the Turk saw that his assailant was watching his burning coat float down the alleyway below them, leaning over the edge of his building slightly. “Damn, you’re fast, Kiddo,” he commented as he straitened, “Still not so good with-Gah!”
Reno had swung his injured arm towards the hooded man, ignoring the searing pain the action caused, and allowing his EMR to swing by the strap that kept it attached to his wrist and stretch across the distance between them, clocking the man in the head. With a curse, the taller man staggered backwards and Reno leaped onto the roof after him.
“Agh, you little shit, are you insane?” The hooded man muttered as he straightened up, one hand disappearing under his hood as some blood dripped into the alley below. “I’m obviously not trying to-”
Reno spun and kicked the man in the stomach before he could finish his statement.
The taller man dodged the right hook that followed and then continued jumping around the rooftop to avoid a non-stop assault of kicks. “…The fuck?” He finally caught the smaller man’s arm, earning a hiss as he squeezed the burnt flesh, “Look, just stay still for a minute!”
“You better let go now, yo,” Reno warned, just before a larger hand landed over his assailant’s. The redhead watched detachedly as Rude’s head swung into his vision, colliding with the hooded man’s head with a familiar cracking sound. The pressure left his stinging arm as the hooded man fell back with a groan.
Without a word, Rude stepped over to the hooded figure, grabbed a handful of his jacket, and pulled him up with one arm. As soon as he had the man upright, he landed a punch to his abdomen with the other arm. Normally, Rude preferred to use only as much force as was necessary to subdue his opponent, especially when he might want to get information from him afterwards. However, this man had hurt Reno, which earned him a couple broken bones by Rude’s logic. The brawny man slammed the thinner male against the door to the building’s interior, and raised his fist again.
“Rude, wait…”
The command had been oddly distant, and not demanding at all, but still, the large Turk paused at the sound of Reno’s voice.
The hood had slid down as Rude manhandled his partner’s stalker, revealing a man in his late twenties with an angular face, green eyes with tattoos under them, and bright red hair that was startlingly familiar. The man’s cheek was already swelling and bruising from Rude’s head butt, and his temple was bruised and bleeding as well.
The bald man turned to glance at his partner, noticing that his eyes were narrowed in confusion. “Reno?”
The shorter redhead stepped closer, looking over the green-eyed man as he approached. “…Lae?”
Rude recognised the name and mentally swore as he derived a conclusion in record time. The man he was still pinning wiped at his bleeding temple and grinned at the younger man as though the brawny Turk was not even there.
“Hey, Kiddo; Long time, no see.”
“Lae?” Reno repeated, his voice sounding even more confused than before. “...What the hell, yo? Why are you- Are you tryin’ to kill me?”
“Of course not, you little pain in the ass.” The taller redhead rolled his eyes and then indicated Rude with a tilt of his head while still looking at Reno. “Can you call him off or something?”
“No, I’m not his keeper, yo.” The smaller man sounded mildly irritated and slightly lost, as though he were trying to figure out if he was really seeing and hearing what he thought he was. “You want him to back off, you gotta ask him.”
Not liking his partner’s uncertainty at all, Rude tightened his grip as he spoke up for the first time since arriving on the roof. “You make a move toward him, you’re mincemeat; understood?”
The green-eyed man looked over the large Turk quickly, and then nodded. He held up his hands in a placatory manner when that did not seem to be enough of a response, “Understood.”
Rude released the man, but remained standing halfway between him and Reno, only stepping aside far enough for them to see each other now that the older redhead’s feet were back on the ground.
Lae seemed to note this, but did not comment. Instead, he turned his attention to Reno with a smirk. “So Turk, huh? I suspected as much. Man, you’re hard to find.”
“Look who’s talkin’.” Reno looked over the taller man as he replied.
The green-eyed man looked slightly uneasy for the first time, “Well…this isn’t exactly how I hoped our little reunion would go. Sorry about your arm…I was just trying to disarm you. I forgot that you don’t do so well with fire until afterwards. Fire and…ice, right? Or have you-”
“You never said what you wanted, yo.”
The taller redhead blinked at the interruption, or more to the slightly hollow tone his brother used. “Yeah, I did; remember? You thought I was talking about revenge…c’mon you aren’t the one who just took a few blows to the head.”
“Well I wasn’t here for that and personally, I’d like to hear the answer,” interjected Rude while throwing a seemingly casual glance at his partner. Something was definitely wrong with the younger man and Rude really did not like it.
The older redhead looked slightly annoyed that the brawny Turk was including himself in the conversation, but after seeing that Reno was not going to protest, decided to indulge him. “I just wanted to find Reno. I wanted to get to know my little brother again. I promised him I’d come back…of course, that took longer than expected, but eh, what can you do?” He gave a half-hearted shrug.
The green-eyed man looked at the smaller redhead again. “Like I said, you’re a pain in the ass to find, Kiddo. Either everyone who should have known about you was dead or not talking…I got the feeling the live ones were all either threatened or bribed. Probably by that tall, dot-headed guy some people mentioned seeing.” Rude’s expression shifted slightly at that comment, but Lae had no idea what it meant, so he continued to focus on his brother, grinning slightly as he added, “Fuck, I’d been searching for weeks before I even got confirmation that you were still alive.”
The taller redhead had expected his little brother to reply with some smart-ass response on how Turks were supposed to be hard to track down, but instead, the younger man just started as him with a slightly distant expression.
“Weeks…” Reno repeated softly, as though he were having trouble finding the meaning of the word, then, his eyes narrowed and his tone hardened; “Weeks? You’ve been gone for years. I haven’t even known if you were alive for about a decade, yo, and you’re tryin’ to give me crap about a few lousy weeks? You ass! Where the hell have you been?!”
Lae shrugged casually, “Nowhere, really. I don’t know if you’d get it, but-”
“I think I do, yo.” Suddenly, the blue-eyed youth sounded cool and detached, the way his brother expected a Turk to sound. “…And you can just go back to nowhere for all I care.” With that, the younger man turned and started heading for the fire escape.
The older redhead frowned and took a step forward, but Rude moved to block his path. Something about the bulky man gave Lae the impression that it would be a very bad idea to try to continue past him. “Reno…”
The younger redhead did not turn around. “Fuck you, Lae.”
“Reno-”
Without responding, Reno disappeared over the edge of the roof, and Rude stopped Lae from moving forward once again; “Don’t.”
The green-eyed man looked between the spot his brother had disappeared from and the large Turk blocking his path. His instincts were to put up a fight, however, he doubted that would end in his favour. He also doubted it would endear his brother to him, considering that he seemed to be on rather friendly terms with his partner from what Lae had observed. The redhead sighed, “Look man, I can’t just leave it like this. He’s my baby brother…”
“…Who you don’t know any more,” commented the burly Turk. “If you follow him now, you’ll only make an already bad situation worse...for everyone.” Rude stretched his neck in a decidedly threatening manner. “Now, have you been stalking him for your own reasons, or for someone else?”
“I- wait…what? I wasn’t stalking him,” protested the redhead with a small glare. “I was just…making sure it was him at first, and then I wanted to sort of see how he was doing before I interfered in his life. What was I supposed to do…show up at the ShinRa building and demand to see a Turk named Reno? Yeah, I’m sure that would have gone over well.”
The balm man said nothing, and Lae had the impression that he was staring him down behind his shades. The Turk’s presence made him feel oddly small and insignificant, and he vaguely wondered how his little brother managed to spend so much time in the man’s presence until Rude spoke again in a dominating tone that interrupted all thoughts.
“Don’t follow him any more.” It was clearly not a suggestion and the brawny man’s tone suggested that Lae did not want to know the consequences of disobeying. “I’ll contact you to meet in a day or two, after Reno’s had some time to think. Leave him alone until then.” Again, it was not a suggestion.
The redhead nodded slowly, then frowned when the large man turned to leave the rooftop, clearly about to catch up to his partner. “Wait…how will you contact me? You don’t know-”
“Just don’t disappear like you did last time, and it won’t be any trouble,” remarked the bald man as he walked away from Lae. It was obviously the end of the encounter.
The green-eyed man sighed as he turned to open the door behind him. Damn…and I thought finding him was the hard part. I hope I have time for this…

The AFF system includes a rigorous and complex abuse control system in order to prevent improper use of the AFF service, and we hope that its deployment indicates a good-faith effort to eliminate any illegal material on the site in a fair and unbiased manner. This abuse control system is run in accordance with the strict guidelines specified above.
