A/N: sorry for the long wait my friends, but the next (and final) chapter is here! I'm ashamed of myself for taking so long to get my ass moving. I had to watch many fanarts and cutscenes to get my mind into FF7 mood. It was no easy task I say. Anyway, here you have the last chapter and I'd love some feedback from you :)
I apologize to Cloud-lovers, but I don't like the guy, so don't mob me please!

"Poor Puppy. At least you are alive and well. Go and shower then, I'll wait here. There is something I want to talk to you about."
Young SOLDIER lifted a curious brow, but then smiled and went to wash off the grime and blood.
CHAPTER 2. FINITO.
Genesis had to force his jaw to stay in place, less it fell on the floor. Of course he was in love with Zack and had seen him half naked on a few occasions. But that happened mostly after a battle when medics started the treatments. So, having a squeaky clean Captain Fair standing in front of him, wearing only sweat pants low on the narrow hips, caused the red-head to have a mini heart-attack. Now, why hadn't Zack shown his body before? It was such a drool-worthy eye-candy. Besides it was also the first time when Genesis saw those rich spiky black hair following the laws of gravity: laying still on that gorgeous wet neck.
Commander Genesis had to mentally slap himself. It was not the time to worship a long desired body. He had other things to sort out in order to get to this body. He thanked Gaia for giving him enough restraint when the young 1st Class put a top on. One should never underestimate youth and all that came with it. Especially when it concerned a person you were crazy about. Zack surely would be the end of him. Either that or through Sephiroth. Or Angeal. Genesis shook all the needless - at least for the moment - thoughts off and gave the younger man a slight smile.
"So, what do you want to talk about?"
Zack settled on a chair, waiting for his unruly hair to dry. As he looked into his friend's eyes he wondered for a thousandth time how the man had gotten such a strange minty-green eye color. Well, as if he was the one to talk with his violet-blue coloring. But while everyone's orbs turned more or less blue due to mako - especially when emotions got the better of a SOLDIER - the red-head's eyes turned into something special and attractive, different from everyone else. Though Sephiroth had special eyes too: bright green with cat-like slit pupils. What kind of mako tests had the man had to got through would remain a mystery to Zack. But those green eyes were captivating.
The 1st Class cursed himself. He had to get over Sephiroth and remembering his pretty eyes was completely the wrong way to go about it. Now, Angeal on the other hand, had the common blue eyes. While calm and relaxed, outside the battle they were deep ocean blue, but when the adrenaline and physical exertion shot up, mako in the body worked more actively, thus lighting up the eyes bright, unnatural blue. But in Zack's opinion, Angeal was special enough. His huge proud stature, kind but at the same time strict personality...there were many factors that made his mentor special in ways more than one.
"About you and Sephiroth."
That one phrase jolted Zack back to reality. Dark brows furrowed.
"There is nothing to talk about. We broke up, that's all."
Genesis smirked at his 'love-target'.
"I beg to differ. You see, Puppy, I had heard the most intriguing conversation the day before you left for Kalm. You talked with a cute blonde cadet. What was his name...hmm...I believe it was cadet Strife." The red-head saw Zack tense at the name. "Now, imagine my surprise as I saw you make such a scary face at your friend as I was passing by. Being the caring person that I am, I stayed and watched. And having so much mako infused into my system makes me hear things. So, be a good Puppy and tell your dear friend Genesis what was all that about."
The young SOLDIER watched Commander Rhapsodos with a critical eye, all the while cursing his carelessness.
"Uh-huh 'passing by' my ass. You were tailing me, weren't you?"
Genesis faked a heavy sigh. He couldn't exactly tell the boy what he had been doing and for what purpose.
"Zack, don't you have any faith in me? You make me sound like some kind of creepy stalker."
"No, you're a pervert."
The red-head huffed.
"Now, Puppy, how can you be so sure of that? I thought you knew better than to believe rumors. Anyway, we're straying away from the main topic. Since I vaguely know what happened and pretty much can guess the rest, what is the point for you to keep it from me? You two obviously broke up because of the blondie, who appears to be not a very insightful person. Sephiroth wants you, blondie wants you. You want our beloved General, but not the kid. Still you refuse Sephiroth. From what I had heard he wants both you and the kid. So a threesome then? And the conclusion is - you broke up because they are forcing you into something you don't want."
Zack stared at his friend for a long moment, taking in the serious look in those mint-green eyes, fully trained on him. Of course he knew that Genesis cared for him a lot. Not just anyone could boast about such a thing. Everyone was aware of the fact that the red-haired Commander had very few close people and simply didn't want to have more. He never trusted people fully. The only ones that he let close to himself were Sephiroth and Genesis - childhood friends; and for some reason Zack. Fair supposed it happened because of his close relationship with Angeal. To be honest it was a trait the three of them shared. Neither Angeal nor Sephiroth let themselves be close to anyone. It seemed that he was an exception to some strange rule.
Seeing that Genesis set his mind to getting the truth out of him and there was no possible way he could escape that conversation, now that the red-head knew so much, Zack leaned back in the chair, closing his tired eyes for a moment. He really didn't want to talk about it, but the Commander could easily go with all the information to Angeal. And if there had been one thing Zack wanted to avoid at any cost - it was an all thunder and crackling Angeal Hewley on a mission to murder Sephiroth in the most gruesome way possible. Of course in the end, defeating the General seemed highly impossible, but his mentor would definitely try. What Shinra would see for sure were destroyed buildings, countless casualties and a frantic Zack running back and forth trying to stop the two.
So, deeming telling Genesis everything to be the lesser of two evils, the young 1st Class recounted everything that happened. The Commander sat silently through the story, fingering the longest of his earrings. Finally he cracked a small smile to the tense SOLDIER.
"My friend, the fates are cruel
There are no dreams, no honor remains..."
Zack groaned at yet another quote from LOVELESS. This poem could get anyone to fall asleep. He could never understand the man's obsession with it. But he agreed that the fates were indeed cruel, though one particular face popped up in his head instead of invisible deities.
"C'mon, Gen! I don't think it's time for reading by heart."
The red-head sniffed.
"You are just too young to understand the beauty of the book."
He stood up moving to stop behind Zack, putting his gloveless hands on the tense shoulders and massaging them slightly. Genesis really hoped that it looked like a reassuring gesture.
"I have known Sephiroth for almost my whole life, so he and Angeal are like brothers to me. But now that he fucked up I can't say I pity him. He took your devotion to him for granted, once again assuming that he could get whatever he desired, since he has always gotten what he wanted. And you know what?"
"Hm?"
Zack felt his muscles relax and body slump down in the chair. Having his sore shoulders rubbed after an exhausting mission sent him into pure bliss. The words that came out of Genesis' mouth were softly spoken and were like a lull to his ears, though the meaning found place in the young man's mind. He was definitely drifting off to the land of dreams.
"At least that proves many rumors to be lies. Sephiroth is human. Only humans can make mistakes, and not one of them is perfect."
The black-haired SOLDIER smiled slightly, barely hearing the words.
"Yeah...you're right..."
Genesis watched as his love interest slowly fell asleep. When unconscious Zack looked even cuter. The red-head had to crush the urge to molest the younger man in his sleep. The Commander effortlessly lifted the still body and took it to the bedroom. He would start pestering Zack after he had some rest.
Walking out of Angeal's apartment Genesis remembered what he had said to Fair. Even if he wanted to badmouth Sephiroth with everything he had, he just couldn't. First of all, the man happened to be his adopted family. Second, it wouldn't help him win Zack's heart, because the boy would not tolerate any insults thrown into the General's garden. Though it went the same for him and Angeal. And probably that Strife brat too. Though he couldn't be sure. But on the other hand, all that speech about Sephiroth being human and making mistakes could appeal to Zack's emotional side and make him run back right into the General's arms.
The Commander wanted to bang his head on the wall. Why did Zack have to be so complex? Aside from the desire to molest the boy, it made his head pulse like mad.
...
Angeal stared into his plate with narrowed eyes. Something was definitely not right and no one bothered to tell him what exactly. He could see his Puppy spending more time with Genesis during the past month, often sitting in the garden or cafeteria talking about one thing or another. The young 1st Class was steadily returning to his bouncy self. Sometimes he even thought that the boy looked even happier than normal.
Then there were also Sephiroth and that blonde kid throwing longing glances at Zack. No one really said it out loud, but everyone in Shinra knew that the General and the cadet were dating. Though it definitely didn't look like it. At daytime it had been impossible to see the two together, and when passing each other, Sephiroth didn't pay the blonde more attention than to any other cadet.
He was surely left out of something, which made him feel uncomfortable. He couldn't protect the Puppy properly if he didn't know what the hell was going on.
...
Zack felt like he was alive again. Thanks to spending almost all of his free time with Genesis, he started gradually letting things go. He still didn't talk to Cloud and avoided being alone with Sephiroth when it didn't concern his duties. Zack wasn't sure if he could forgive such a betrayal. And even if he did, the chance of them being friends once again was even lower than him being pregnant. The chance happened to be a bit above zero - something akin to 0.00001% - almost the same as being able to bear children. You never knew with Hojo lurking around the corner.
Sephiroth had tried to talk to him a couple more times, but the dark-haired SOLDIER always referred to his duties and saluted respectfully before marching out the door. To stop loving and caring deeply for the General was no easy task and Zack doubted he would ever manage to completely erase the feelings for the silver haired man. But he would move on, like he had done so many times after particularly dreadful missions. If he could ignore a picture of his friend/team-mate dying a horrible death right before his eyes, then he could certainly hold back those bothersome feelings.
Besides, hanging out with Genesis helped a great deal. The man could be funny, serious, philosophical...anything you wanted him to be. His education and knowledge of life amazed Zack, despite the fact that he had known the man since he became Angeal's apprentice. It also came as a surprise how well the Commander could read his moods, as if he had been meticulously studying Zack for a long time. That observation should have crept him out, but instead it made him feel needed; important enough to someone that they would take their time observing him. Then again if it was Hojo, then it would have triggered an alarm grenade in Zack's mind.
...
Sephiroth couldn't help but watch as Zack - the man that once belonged to him, whose utter devotion he held in his hands - laughed at something Genesis said. The General stood like a marble statue in front of the window in his office, green eyes glued to the two talking before the main building. How could he read Zack so wrongly? The younger man had never hidden anything from him and told right into his face if something went wrong. The 1st Class was open about his likes, dislikes and wishes. He knew that Sephiroth had problems being social and expressing himself. So he took that upon himself to speak and ask. It was thanks to Fair that their relationship worked.
Why had he thought that dragging Strife into their relationship would be a good decision? Not to mention getting intimate with the cadet even before consulting Zack. In the younger man words, he screwed up big time. And that was the one thing Zack wouldn't be forgiving about.
Those first days with Cloud were nice, but not exceptionally so. It had been something new, different from his lover. Anticipation of having Zack there with them, made those intimate moments feel better, than they actually were. Why had he insisted when Zack arrived? Hell if he knew now. But at the moment the idea of the three of them being together seemed right and too good to pass up. Never in his life had he shared what was his. Even between him, Genesis and Angeal. They were close friends, brothers even, but each of them had their own possessions, wishes, dreams. They didn't need to understand each other and be able to read thoughts to respect the other's choices. What brought them together in the first place was childhood, home town and scientists.
So in his eyes, when he wanted to have a threesome relationship, he wouldn't be sharing Zack, but Cloud. Only later it struck him, that the blonde loved the young 1st Class too and wanted to share him with Sephiroth. But by that time Zack refused to get back together. So from then on the only partner in his bed had been Cloud. That nice feeling he had at first, started to change slowly into indifference. In many aspects the two of them were too alike: emotionally stunted, cold and dispirited. Zack on the other hand, was everything both of them could never be: energetic, optimistic, open, warm, kind and caring. So of course, as if by the laws of nature, Sephiroth and Cloud reached for him, never once thinking about the dark-haired man's feelings.
And so it came to an end. A few days ago, Sephiroth voiced his desire not to see each other again. The blonde looked somewhat upset, but apparently he understood too that without Zack neither of them could handle being together. It didn't help either of them that now they didn't stand a chance with the young 1st Class.
Sephiroth once again looked out the window. The two were still talking and obviously having a great time. Sure, Genesis was a rumored player and a heart-breaker, but people changed when they were close to Zack. And perhaps Commander Rhapsodos was a person Zack needed by his side. When something interested or concerned the red-head he was always attentive, serious and determined. He remembered how Genesis had always wanted to fight him one on one, to prove his strength and worthiness, for he hated being inferior even to his brother-figure. As Zack beamed at the red-head, Sephiroth smiled sadly. Now Genesis didn't have to prove a single thing. Only a better man could make Zack smile like that.
...
Genesis and Zack sat on the couch in Angeal's apartment, drinking coffee and discussing their latest missions. Why they were always hanging out there? Two reasons: first, Angeal refused to let Zack live alone in fear of a big bad wolf coming an d stealing his cute little Puppy; second, the place was always clean, what with Commander Hewley being a neat-freak.
The red-head half-listened to Zack recounting everything that happened on the mission while gesticulating with his hands. The young man was so beautiful, especially when happy and excited, like now. They had gotten closer for the past two months and Genesis couldn't wait any longer. Being so close to Zack exhausted the control he had over himself. Watching those eyes brighten, lips stretch in a bright smile, showing pearly-white teeth, black rich hair bounce with every step, muscles ripple under the taut skin - all that made him go crazy more and more with each passing day. So waiting longer was dangerous, for he could jump the young man any minute.
Zack was just getting to the part where he kicked ass, when Genesis interrupted him.
"Zack, I want to ask you something."
The use of his name instead of all-too-popular pet-name grabbed his attention instantly and he turned to his companion. Bright minty-green eyes held no trace of humor and that sobered Zack up.
"Yeah?"
Seeing no reason in evading the point of the question, Genesis cut to the chase.
"Do you think you can enter a relationship in the near future?"
The dark haired man gave the Commander a curious look.
"Yep, why not? I mean, sure, the way Sephiroth and I broke up wasn't pretty, but it doesn't mean I want to be celibate for the rest of my life because of that. He's not the only man on Gaia. Moving on is the best way to get over him."
It felt as though a heavy stone was lifted from Genesis' heart. The red-head smiled at his friend.
"You know, I sometimes envied Sephiroth because he always got what he wanted. But the worst moment was when you two became a couple. I had been so angry, Zack. I thought I would never get the chance to have you by my side. The you broke up and..." He coughed clearing his throat, trying not to look into those beautiful eyes that were getting bluer by the second. Mako was definitely reacting to Zack's emotions. "What I really wanted to ask was: will you date me?"
Young SOLDIER stared at the red-head with wide eyes, not in the least expecting such a question. Still plate-eyed, Zack pondered at the question. He couldn't deny that he felt happy when the two of them spent time together. And wasn't that what mattered the most? He trusted Genesis, of course he did. It couldn't hurt to try, right? Well, it could, but those who never risked - they never won. Besides, he could always sick Angeal on the man for hurting him. Zack smirked.
"You know that I know that you have a reputation of a player, right?"
Genesis nodded.
"And you know that I won't tolerate any affairs behind my back if we get together, don't you?"
"Yes."
Zack leaned closer to his friend, leaving their faces mere inches apart. Minty-green eyes shone brightly in anticipation, while blue danced with mirth.
"Well then. My answer will depend on how skilled you are in the kissing department."
That was the only signal needed for Genesis to lose control, that had been gripped by a precarious hold. Lips cashed together, making both feel something stirring up. Zack didn't know he would have such an intense reaction to Genesis' touch. Obviously the whole relationship deal was worth trying.
Genesis felt he would go insane if Zack said 'no' to him after this kiss. Feeling the younger one's warm, soft full lips moving against his, made the urge to take Zack right fucking now almost uncontrollable.
"WHAT?"
Both men pulled apart as the shout almost deafened them. Two heads slowly turned to the entrance door to find Angeal standing there, eyes darting from his apprentice to his friend. The first emotion to blossom on the exceptionally handsome face was shock. Seriously, not every day you see your cute little Puppy making out with your best friend, who happened to be a sex-machine, chasing everything that moved. The next emotion to show up was confusion, but it decided not to linger, giving way to anger. Zack watched partly amused, partly scared as his mentor's face twisted in fury. It took the big man a few deep breath to be able to speak properly.
"YOU! What were you doing to Zack!"
Genesis inched to stand behind his - hopefully - future lover, keeping a confident facade all the while.
"I wasn't doing anything to him. We were just kissing, that's all."
"WHA~...YOU~...ARGH!"
"There is no hate, only joy
For you are beloved by the goddess
Hero of the dawn, Healer of worlds"
"Don't you dare giving me that bullshit now! How could you lay your dirty hands on him! You fucking fiend!"
The red-head smirked. The times when Angeal got angry were few, so each of them was priceless. Genesis just couldn't NOT have fun at his friend's expense. Even though it could cost him something vital.
"Ah thank you for the compliment, my dear friend. I've never known I'm that good that the tales reached even your ears."
Zack honestly thought that Angeal would explode and Genesis had a death wish. Deciding that perhaps clearing up the situation could prove to be a wiser course of action, he butted in.
"Angeal. Genesis and I are dating, so we weren't just fooling around."
The next thing he knew, he was subjected to two stares: one shocked-confused, the other shocked-smug. Minutes of silence passed. And then some more. Only when Angeal started pacing in front of the couch did Genesis dare to sit down next to his new lover.
"Do you think he'll be going at it for the next few hours?"
Zack watched his distressed mentor pace and mumble something under his breath.
"Have no idea. If he came from a mission then yes. If no, then he can go for a whole day. Trust me, I know."
The red-head smirked and buried his face in those dark rich locks. Angeal would definitely chewing him out for weeks if not months after that, but he couldn't care less at the moment. He felt content and happy for the first time in years. Now, there was a question of jumping his boyfriend's ass as soon as possible. What to do, what to do...
Poor Zack sat oblivious to the ideas cooking up in his lover's perverted mind.
