"I don't understand why you don't just tell him already," Rinoa voiced over the phone.
"I can't," was his response. He was talking to her over the phone because she went on a trip with her boyfriend. "Why not? What's the worse that could happen?" she asked, getting a little frustrated with her friend. Squall thought. Well, he could laugh in Squall's face. Reject him, mock him? Must he go on? "Squall?" He sighed, rubbing at his eyes, "It... complicated," he finally said. He heard her sigh again. "Squall, don't you want to find out if he feels the same way or not?" "What if he doesn't?" was his immediate reply. "Well, you'll never know unless you ask him, Squally." The brunet closed his eyes. He knew Rinoa was right. It was just hard for him to confess to Seifer. How would he even go about telling him something like this? What would he say? So many thoughts ran through his mind. It not as though he'd had to deal with this kind of thing before. This was all very new to the brunet. He honestly didn't know what to do. "Squall?" her soft voice said over the phone. "Hn. I don't know, Rin," he sighed. She hated seeing him like this. It wasn't everyday you see Squall like this. "I know, honey," she soothed him. "But, I think it's best if you talk to him, you know? Maybe not just blurt it out, but gradually work your way there?" Her advice was good, Squall smiled slightly. He was glad to have a friend like her. ""...I guess," the scarred boy agreed after a few moments of silence. She smiled. "Good. Now, I gotta go. Zone wants to go eat dinner. "I'll call you later." "Okay. Bye." "Bye." They both hung up the phone, leaving Squall to his thoughts. He still had no clue what do to about his situation, though. Squall was not use to this kind of feeling. He never felt like this, not even with Rinoa. He had been in his office all day, trying to stay away from h is friends for a while, needing to think by himself. And for the most part, it had worked, except for the interruption from Seifer earlier—the one he really wanted to not see at the moment, considering his feelings and all. Well, he wanted to see Seifer, just not at the moment. Not when Seifer was the cause of why Squall was feeling like this. Squall sighed.Irvine sighed. "I don't know why you just won't tell him already?" He repeated Rinoa's words to Squall from earlier.
Zell glared at him. "Because, he sees me as chicken-wuss. He'd just laugh at me, I'm sure." "I doubt that," Irvine argued. "You guys are friends." "Yeah... but..." "Come on, Zell..." "No!" "What's the worse that can happen, huh? He'll say no?" "Or he could punch me for telling him," Zell offered with a sigh. Oh, but Zell wanted to tell him. But how? "He won't do that," he assured the younger blond. "Hyne, you seem to have a lot of confidence in this," he mused to his cowboy friend. "Of course I do. Why not? We all know Seifer's changed, right?" the hat wearing boy pointed out. Zell stopped to think. He did have a point. Seifer wasn't the arrogant bully he was back then. And Zell thinks that had something to do with his feelings for Seifer changing like they did. That, and Seifer looking so damn good... "Zell?" He heard his friend chuckle. "You're drooling." "I am not!" he huffed, but wiped at his face. Dammit, Irvine. "Okay. So, what do you plan do to about this then? I still think you should tell him, though." "I don't know," Zell replied, frowning. He really didn't. He wanted to help his friend out. But he didn't know how. "Oh, there's Squall." Zell looked over to where Irvine was looking, seeing Squall talking with Quistis. "Yeah.." "Well, gotta go. Talk to you later, man." "Later, Irvine," Zell waved and smiled at him. He watched as he walked over to Squall and started talking to him, too. Zell shook his head. He went off into thought, not realizing when someone was standing in front of him. He jumped back a little. "Hyne, Seifer." "Heh, did I scare ya?" He was teasing. "No," he said and crossed his arms. "Right," Seifer chuckled, a sound Zell loved to hear. "What're you doing here anyway? I thought you had a class." "I do. I stayed late after my other class, so I'm heading there now, actually," the tall blond replied with a smile. "Oh. Okay." "Well, later. I'm probably gonna get bitched at by Quistis." "Right," Zell nodded. "See ya later." The bigger man waved and off he went, leaving Zell to watch his retreating back, licking his lips as he did so. "I saw that," said a cool voice. "I don't know what you're talking about, Squall." The blond folded his arms and looked at his friend. "Hn. I believe you do know what I'm talking about, Zell," was his cool reply. "Do I?" Zell was pretty sure he knew where Squall was going with this. "Yes. I saw the way you were looking at Seifer." "And?" The tattooed boy was done playing games. "So what? What business is it of yours?" That earned him a glare from Squall. "Because," he started. "Are you jealous, Squall?" This got him another heated glare. Zell's eyes got impossibly wide and he had to blink several times. "No... you like Seifer? Squall said nothing, thus, confirming the answer to Zell's question. "I didn't know." "Hn." He just rolled his eyes. "Well, now you do. And I know you do, too." "So what if I do?" he challenged. "He's not yours. Squall." "I know." "As far as I'm concerned, he's single." The lithe brunet's eyes rose at the challenge he heard in Zell's voice. "Hn. Fine then. Let's just see who gets him first." "You're making a bet with me to see who gets Seifer first?" Zell wanted to make sure he heard that correctly. "Exactly." Zell thought it over for a moment. "Fine." Squall smirked. He knew Zell would go for it. "Okay." He never thought he'd be betting Squall to see who would get the tall, sexy blond man first. But, a bets a bet. And Zell Dincht never backs out of a bet. "You can't tell anyone about the bet either." "I won't," Zell said, cracking his knuckles. "Alright then," Squall and him shook hands. "Fine." "Who knows that you like Seifer?" "Only Irvine. You?" "Rinoa. Irvine knows?" "Yeah, I kinda told him. Haha. He's cool with it, though. "Yeah. I told Rinoa when I broke up with her." Zell nodded. "What are you boys doing?" Quistis gave them a suspicious stare. "Ah, nothin' Quis. We was jus' talkin'." "I see," she nodded. "Have you seen Seifer?" Zell asked suddenly. "Sure. Last I knew he was on his way into town. Said something about picking something up for dinner." "Oh," was all he said. "Okay." "Why?" "Just wanted to see if he was up for doing anything later, ya know? 'Cuz I ain't got anything to do." "Alright. Well, he left about 15 minutes ago. He should be back shortly, though." "Okay," Zell smiled at her, flashing his nice teeth. "Hn," Squall only gave him a look. Only Zell knew what that look was. But, Quistis didn't. "Did I miss something?" she asked, cocking a brow. "Nah, it's nothing," the blond waved her off. She gave them both a skeptical look, but didn't say anything more on the subject. "Okay. Well, I have to go talk to Selphie." She waved and then she was off. Squall sighed. "I should finish up my work, too." He glared at Zell. "What?" the spunky boy asked innocently. "Hn." Squall gave him a look then walked off, leaving Zell to smirk at his retreating back."I heard you were looking for me earlier," said a familiar voice.
"Oh, yeah I was. Was wondering if you wanted to hang out. But Quis said you were in town." "I was. Okay. What did you have in mind then?" Seifer asked him, taking a seat beside him. "I dunno. A movie in my room. This new movie came out and I've been trying to find someone to watch it with." Well, it was only partially a lie. He was trying to find someone to watch it with, he just failed to say that he wanted it to be with Seifer. "A movie? I guess. But, why ask me? I mean, you have other friends here." "They all said they were busy..." Another lie, well, somewhat. They were busy. "Oh," Seifer frowned. "I didn't meant it like you were my last choice-" "I know," he waved it away. "It's fine." Zell mentally kicked himself. He didn't want to make Seifer think he was just the last resort because, well, he wasn't. If anything, he was Zell's first choice. "Sure. I don't really have anything planned." "Great!" Zelled exclaimed. Seifer just thought it was because he found someone to watch the movie with, but he was excited for an entirely different reason. Seifer smiled at him, a smile that was breathtaking to Zell. He'd never get tired of seeing Seifer smile, especially if it was aimed at him. Zell smiled back, grabbing his arm and dragging him to his room to watch the movie he mentioned. And Seifer allowed himself to be pulled by Zell, all the while shaking his head at how much energy the boy had. "Okay. We're here." Zell opened his door and let the taller man go first. "I see that, Dincht," the other man rolled his eyes. He walked over to the couch and plopped himself down, kicking his feet up and relaxing. Zell took a moment to observe Seifer; how his body looked stretched out like that. His long legs. Zell bit his lip. "Well," Seifer's voice startled Zell. "Are you going to put the move in, or just stare at me all day?" The smaller boys' eyes went big, and he started spluttering, causing Seifer to chuckle. Though, Seifer was dead on. He'd rather just stare at Seifer all day, but he wasn't going to say that. "I wasn't starring," he huffed. "I'll put the movie in. Back in a second." "All right." Seifer said, leaning back. He was nice and relaxed. He never knew Dincht had such a comfortable couch. Zell walked back in the room and saw Seifer leaning back, eyes roaming over the taller figure before finding his voice. "Back." "About time," he playfully grumbled. Zell went to put the movie in. When the movie was over, Seifer yawned. "Well, that wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be," he admitted. "Yeah, I thought it was good," he agreed, yawning himself. It was getting late, but he really didn't want Seifer to go. "Well, I should head to my room." "Wait..." Zell said before he could stop himself. Now what was he supposed to say? "What?" "Well," he started before he could stop himself. "it's getting late, so why don't you just crash here?" Seifer was surprised he asked him that. But he didn't let it show on his face."Nah, I couldn't. My room's not far." Dammit. What was he gonna say now? "Seifer?" "Hm?" I—uh I..." He was stuttering like some idiot. Damn, this was harder than he thought it was gonna be. Seifer stared at him for a moment, wondering why Zell was acting so funny around him now. Come to think of it, this wouldn't be the first time Seifer's noticed this. It was strange for Zell to be acting all nervous with him. He didn't understand it. Though, Seifer had never said anything about it before, figuring it was Zell just being himself or something. But, now Seifer gets a feeling that he might be wrong. Dammit Hyne! Zell thought. If he was gonna beat Squall and get Seifer, he needed to stop acting like this. "Would you like something to drink before you go?" That came out better at least. "Sure," he nodded his blond head. Zell went to grab something from his fridge. "Thanks." "Sure," Zell smiled. Things were going a little better since he quit stuttering like an idiot. Seifer drank all of it and sat the glass down. "Alright. I better get going now." "...Okay," he reluctantly said, sighing. He felt a strong hand on his shoulder and looked up into Seifer's nice green eyes, getting lost in them for a moment. Seifer sure smelled good... Seifer patted his shoulder and smirked. "Well, this evening was entertaining to say the least." "Yeah," Zell nodded. Watching Zell make a fool out of himself. Yeah, that was entertaining. entertaining for who? "It was." Seifer's hand remained on his shoulder and Zell suddenly had the urge to kiss him. And Seifer noticed a change and smirked. He released his shoulder and nodded his head. "I will see you tomorrow, Zell." He swallowed and nodded back. "Yeah." Was it just him? Or was there too much tension in this room? "Later, Dincht," Seifer said softly, heading out. "Later," he echoed and Seifer was gone and Zell was finally able to breath right again.A/N: Well, what do you think?
