Cloud glanced over his shoulder nervously as he walked. The stones under his feet crunched as he walked forward.
He was walking along the path from the mansion to the Nibelhiem reactor.
He hadn't told Chaos where he was going. He didn't want to be found.
"I just want to be left alone."
The words were soft- he barely heard them himself. His eyes darted from side to side, paranoid of fiends, or even Chaos.
He didn't want to speak to anyone.
Not today.
Not on the anniversary of that fateful day in the reactor, where he alone faced Sephiroth.
He continued walking forward. His thoughts turned gloomily towards the older man and SOLDIER. He thought of all the times they had been with Zack, in Midgar or on a mission.
"They're gone." He murmured.
Sometimes, he wanted to join them. He wanted to meet them in the Lifestream, to be with them always.
Only Vincent held him back.
If not for the gunman, Cloud would surely have let himself go.
Cloud believed so, anyway.
With Chaos always over his shoulder, Cloud's innermost thoughts wondered if it was worth it. Vincent could continue life normally, surely.
And he would be with them.
He sighed as he looked up at the reactor. Why did he come here, to this place full of memories?
Maybe a part of him was hoping that he would die here.
Die on the day he defeated Sephiroth in the same place and join them.
Just maybe.
