Cloud was safe with them now, but he still hid and flitted around in the shadows. He was so quiet he even scared the daylights out of Sephiroth not once but twice. The little blond hadn’t meant to startle Sephiroth so badly. Cloud didn’t realize how quiet he was being as he came up behind the other wolf and touched his shoulder. Sephiroth had yelped, jumping up and turning around in a flurry of silver hair and black leather. He dropped the dish he had been washing, the loud shatter of glass on the tile, and Sephiroth’s reaction frightened the little pup so badly he nearly fainted.
The second time had been very similar, except it had been the watering can and the pup had fainted.
After that, Cloud started making more noise as he slunk around the apartment like a thief. Despite assurances that he was welcome and to make himself at home, Cloud just couldn’t seem to do so.
Sephiroth knew that set of shoulders and terrified look. It was the posture of someone too long in Hojo’s labs. If he had been anyone else, Sephiroth would look the same way. It would take some time before normal became normal again.
Or, if he was like Sephiroth, he may have never known what normal was in the first place.
Genesis seemed to be the only one Cloud really trusted. The blond was attached to the redhead the instant he entered the apartment, and Cloud was very much a puppy following around the one he trusted most.
That didn’t stop him, however, from covertly watching the rest of the pack members.
It was Angeal that really brought Cloud to feel a part of the pack. The older man was without a doubt the patriarch of the group. Strong, self-assured…alpha in every sense of the word. Cloud was more than slightly intimidated.
“Pup,” Angeal called, gesturing from the kitchen. Cloud’s eyes perked forward then slicked back as his emotions fluctuated from interested to anxious. “Come on,” the older wolf coaxed gently.
Cloud reluctantly left Genesis’ side. The redhead was sleeping sprawled out on the living room floor, exhausted from an afternoon of tussling with Zack in the name of ‘training’ that looked more like ‘playing.’
The blond crept silently into the kitchen, tail partially tucked between his legs.
“Here, have a seat,” Angeal pulled out a chair at the small table. Cloud hunched down in the seat, extremely wary.
The alpha smiled kindly and opened the fridge to pull out a pan covered in tinfoil. He peeled the covering off to expose a beautiful side of meat as the pan was sat on the table. Cloud unconsciously licked his lips, fluffy blond ears twitching in anticipation and tail thudding twice against the chair.
A small knife was produced from one of the kitchen drawers. Angeal settled himself on a chair next to Cloud and pulled the pan over. A single, thin slice of meat was relieved from the slab, and Angeal very gently offered the bit to the pup.
Cloud, eyes wide, instinctively opened his mouth and accepted the meat. The little pup closed his eyes in bliss at the taste of the luscious treat. Angeal laughed softly and carved another piece.
“Not going to share, my mate?”
Cloud’s eyes snapped to the door of the kitchen. Genesis was on his knees, leaning against the door jam. The redhead fell down to hands and knees and crawled over to Angeal. The dark haired alpha rumbled deep in his chest and stroked Genesis’ hair when the red wolf was close enough. Genesis sat at Angeal’s feet, head leaning against a powerful thigh contentedly.
Angeal offered the piece in his fingers to Genesis, the lush, red lips of his mate pursing and sucking around his fingers to catch every drop of moisture.
The blond instinctively moved to the floor and put himself next to Genesis.
Angeal felt a surge of something powerful and dominant as he gazed down at his two, beautiful (females, his subconscious supplied) mates that were looking at him adoringly. Cloud cuddled in to Genesis, both of them looked so perfect and (prized his inner wolf whispered) lovely.
Sighing in appreciation, Angeal continued to feed his pack-mates.
Cloud was, for the first time, feeling completely at home and comfortable. Angeal was warm, sweet, and just the right amount of dominant alpha to make him feel safe and protected. Sephiroth was…nice, but the silver alpha had an air of danger about him that scared the crap out of Cloud.
Then, of course, anyone slightly assertive unnerved Cloud. Angeal was the first authoritative person that the blond was starting to actually enjoy being around.
Hopefully, Sephiroth would follow.
Maybe…maybe it wasn’t so bad. Cloud relaxed even farther into Genesis, smiling sweetly up at Angeal. Angeal’s face softened and he gently stroked soft, blond ears.
At first, it had been hard to accept that he was a part of a pack. But now…Cloud couldn’t ask for anything better.
