PREMONITIONS PART II:
Our Story So Far….
Retired heroes Cloud, Tifa, and Barret can never get a moment's peace. A new villain, Bestla, kills Denzel in cold blood. Cloud had just celebrated his 30th birthday, while Tifa is married and trying for a baby. But one last hurrah calls the three of them to stop Bestla from obtaining the Chronus Wand, one of Hojo's final inventions that allows a person to travel back in time. Cloud and Tifa both regret not ending up together, but agree never to see each other again after the mission. Unfortunately, the mission is a failure. Bestla kills Barret, Tifa, and Cloud before obtaining the wand, allowing her to travel back in time to when Cloud and Barret first invaded Reactor Number One. Her goal: to kill Sephiroth and become a goddess in his place, with the younger versions of Cloud, Tifa, and Barret completely naïve to what was going on.
Or so she thought. Soon, Cloud, Tifa, and Barret, along with the others they meet, begin to have subtle hints inside of a now-preventable dark future. Soon enough, they realize it is not their first time on their quest to save the world. And we realize along the way that, as it is a new timeline, Tifa once again has a chance to end up with Cloud.
But so does Aerith. She meets Cloud, and together they build a stronger and closer relationship than they did the first time. Soon afterward, Aerith is kidnapped by the Shinra, prompting Cloud, Tifa, and Barret to attempt a rescue mission.
All goes normally as before. Then, Bestla torches Kalm to the ground. Bestla, unaware and inadvertently, is creating an alternate timeline, where history is being changed. This results in deaths that should not have been, and the prevention of deaths that should have been.
Unknown to everyone else, Aerith has been having the premonitions the strongest. Sadly, she is well aware her end is near, and uses what appears to be her short remaining time to develop her relationship with Cloud more significantly than in the original timeline. This resulted in the two of them explicitly falling in love and becoming a couple, bonding in the most intimate of ways.
Meanwhile, Cloud begins to realize that history can be changed through his premonitions, and that something is about to happen to Aerith. Unfortunately, history refuses to change, and Aerith is killed on the altar as before (?).
So here we come upon a grief-stricken Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Red XIII, Cait Sith, Yuffie, Cid, and Vincent heading for the North Pole, unaware that Bestla has landed on the southern shores of the Northern Continent and has begun to pursue them. And if and when she catches up to them….
Prepare for further deviations from the original storyline. Prepare for the destruction of a city. For Cloud and Tifa to fully understand the nature of the premonitions.
And for the return of….well, someone….
Chapter 31: Boys
The pounding would not cease on the wooden door.
"Forget it, Johnny!" called the twelve-year-old girl as she washed her hands in the bathroom sink. "My pants are already up and my belt's buckled!"
"Can't I have just a little peek?" Johnny begged as he continued to try and open the locked bathroom door.
"Doesn't your older brother have any girly magazines under his bed?" the girl asked. "It'll save you the trouble!"
"They're not you, baby," Johnny called.
"So you'd rather watch me pee than see a mature woman in some hot pose?" asked the girl. "You're sick."
"We all swing our own ways," Johnny insisted.
In response, the door opened, and the girl stepped out. "I really don't want to see your face right now," she insisted.
"I don't need to see your face right now," Johnny said. "You've gotten your boobs, and your butt looks so good in those jeans of yours."
The girl decided not to dignify with response. Instead, she left the classroom and ventured out into the hall. And then, she saw a face she did want to see.
"Hi, Cloud!" she greeted.
"How's it going?" he asked.
"Not good," the raven-head replied. "Johnny tried peeping in on me again."
Cloud sighed. "What part of 'no' doesn't he understand?"
"And this time it was while I was in the bathroom!" Tifa added.
At that point, Johnny caught up with them.
"What's going on?" he greeted Cloud.
"She just told me you tried to spy on her in the bathroom," Cloud replied. "Seriously, dude, why would you do that?"
"Because her pants were down," Johnny replied, cockily but honestly.
"It's sick," Cloud said. "Don't you have any respect for women?"
"Of course I do," Johnny insisted.
"Bullshit," Cloud replied.
"What about the time you tried to get into the girls' locker room?" added the raven-head.
"You always change in the bathroom stall anyway," Johnny replied. "So why would you care, Tiffany Claire?"
"For the last time, I prefer Tifa," she sighed.
"I think you need to skedaddle before we see what Mr. Tarin has to say about this," Cloud warned. He'll suspend your ass for sure."
"Fine," groaned Johnny as he began to turn away.
"Cloud," said Tifa, "thank you."
"Awww!" taunted Johnny as he turned around again. "Why are defending her like that? Are you in loooooooooove?"
That did it for Cloud. He immediately charged at Johnny, knocking him to the ground.
"Hey!" he shouted, but it was too late.
Cloud began to pummel Johnny's face until he was dragged off of him by two faculty, blood from Johnny's nose drenching his fists.
LATER THAT DAY…
Cloud and Claudia Strife were seated together across from the desk as Mr. Tarin glared at both of them.
"It's his first fight in weeks," Claudia attempted to defend her son.
"Johnny's at the clinic right now," Tarin said. "He's lucky his nose isn't broken. And so are you."
Cloud nodded.
"That's all you can do?" he demanded. "Nod? Cloud, his parents could sue you for this!"
"What does that mean?" asked Cloud.
"It means they could legally take all your money," Tarin replied.
"But he's not, right?"
"No, they're not pressing any charges for now."
"So what now?" asked Cloud.
"Fighting is grounds for expulsion," Tarin replied. "And how many fights have you been in this year?"
"Nine," Cloud replied, as he suddenly noticed a female figure with long, raven hair out in the hallway.
"Counting this one," added Tarin. "I've saved you eight times when I shouldn't have. But I can't anymore. Cloud, I'm going to have to recommend that you be expelled.
Just then, the door burst open, and the raven-haired figure ran into the room. "You can't expel him!" Tifa pleaded.
"Tiffany, where's your hall pass?" demanded Tarin.
"Johnny was harassing me!" Tifa replied, ignoring the question. "He was trying to peep on me in the bathroom! Then he was following me around the halls!"
"Why didn't you go to an adult?" asked Tarin.
"Nobody was around!" Tifa insisted.
"If Cloud's expelled, I won't take part in the Reading Olympics," Tifa threatened.
"What?" exclaimed Tarin.
"You heard me," Tifa continued. "If I don't do the Reading Olympics, the school bombs, and we don't get any extra funding. It would be kind of a shame if you ended up laid off because of me."
Everyone was dead silent.
Cloud couldn't believe it.
Finally, Cloud broke the silence. "I had nothing to do with that."
"I know," said Tarin.
"So what now?" asked Cloud.
"You're suspended for a week," Tarin said. "And since you probably don't know what that means, it means I don't want to see you anywhere near this school for a whole week."
"Oh," replied Claudia, "no worries. He's grounded."
"One more thing," Tarin said. "We tried to reach you all day."
"I was at work," Claudia replied. "I can't take calls there."
"Can we have his father's contact info so we can get things taken care of faster?"
Claudia sighed. "His father's not in the picture," she said. "No joint custody, no visitation, nothing. Cloud's never even met him."
"Why do you think Johnny keeps calling me Cloud the Bastard all the time?" Cloud said.
"Cloud!" exclaimed Tarin. "Can you please watch the language?!"
"Well, it's what I am," Cloud replied. "I'm a bastard. It's not my fault. My dad, whoever that is or was, pulled up his pants and ditched my mom."
"Enough!" shouted Tarin.
LATER….
"I screwed around, too," said Claudia on the ride home, finally breaking the awkward silence. "When I was 16 I…"
"I know, I know!" Cloud interrupted. "You kicked the cheer captain in the knee for calling you ugly. You've told me that a million times since I was six."
"Well," replied Claudia, "now that you're a little older I can tell you it wasn't her knee. She got me so upset I kicked her in the box."
Cloud's eyes widened.
"Don't tell anybody," Claudia warned.
"So I'm not grounded?" asked Cloud.
"Of course not," Claudia replied. "You were sticking up with someone you've been playing with since you were two."
"You're at the age where the boys start to become interested in the girls, and the girls start to get interested in the boys."
Not again, Cloud thought to himself.
"Why don't you ask her out?" suggested Claudia. "I don't have to go with you. I think she would like that."
"We're just friends," Cloud replied.
"You know she thinks very highly of you," Claudia continued. "Especially after today. Cloud, there's nothing wrong with a girl liking you."
"Can we please not talk about this?" pleaded Cloud.
"Cloud, it's a compliment," Claudia insisted.
"Mom, please!" Cloud begged.
"Sorry," Claudia apologized.
"This is everyone's problem," Cloud said. "Why does everyone think I like her or that we're supposed to be a couple just because she has breasts and a vagina?"
Claudia immediately put her foot on the brakes, causing the car to skid to a stop. "Where did you learn to talk like that?!" she demanded.
"Health class," Cloud replied.
"Now you're grounded," Claudia informed him.
"Seriously?" asked Cloud.
"No," Claudia replied.
MEANWHILE…
Tifa, meanwhile, rode the bus home with everyone else. She was dead silent the whole time. She did not say a word to anyone.
But she had a big smile on her face.
