Summary: Genesis didn’t rise early for anything other than war or coffee. Seeing how there wasn’t a war, and he couldn’t smell coffee….

Sephiroth woke to a…feeling. Or was it a smell? Or a sound?
He lay still for a moment, trying to decide what it was that woke him from a sound sleep. The air was still and slightly cool. There was a different smell, but it wasn’t anything instinctually alarming. However, it urgent feel, like something was happening right now.
Green eyes slitted open to take in the den. Curled up to his side was Cloud with Zack behind him. Angeal lay a couple of feet from him, the space where Genesis usually lay was empty and cold. The silver wolf sat up and quickly surveyed the area. He sighed in relief to see his heavily pregnant mate sitting in front of the window, serenely gazing out at the moonlit night.
“What has you awake, my love?” Sephiroth asked quietly as he left the nest of bedding he was cuddled into.
Genesis wrapped the blanket he was holding a little tighter around himself. “It’s such a beautiful night,” the red wolf whispered. His blue eyes glowed brightly and calmly in the dark of the den.
The bigger wolf came up behind his mate and sat down on the window seat with him. He maneuvered so Genesis was cradled against his body and squeezed between his legs. Sephiroth hummed under his breath as he looked out the window with Genesis. “It is beautiful. But…” he gently kissed Genesis’ neck, “there is one thing that is more beautiful than any other.”
“Your flattery is not necessary but greatly appreciated,” Genesis murmured, settling heavily into Sephiroth’s embrace.
“Tis not flattery. Only truth,” the silver wolf whispered into a soft, fire-red ear. “How can anything be more beautiful than my precious mate heavy with my cubs?” His sword-calloused hands slid around and slipped under the blanket to rest on the taut skin of Genesis’ swollen abdomen. His eyebrows flew into silver hair when he felt the muscles there as hard as rock. “Gen, are you…?”
“Shhh,” Genesis hushed, voice low and hypnotizing. “There is time. Let’s watch the night. It’s so beautiful.”
“But…Gaia. Gen, we need to-”
“Shhh,” the red wolf gentled again. “It’s such a beautiful night.”
The urgent franticness faded within Sephiroth’s mind. However, his hands trembled a little on Genesis’ stomach in nervous anticipation. “Beautiful,” Sephiroth managed to choke out. He buried his face in the sweet curve of the pale neck before him. “So beautiful.”
Sephiroth didn’t even realize that he was crying until one of Genesis’ warm hands caressed his cheek and wiped away some of the clinging moisture. “I love you so much, Gen,” the silver wolf whispered, trying to communicate the depth of his love with his whole body.
“I love you, too,” Genesis smiled and turned his head to softly kiss Sephiroth’s cheek.
They settled together, the night quiet and soft around them. The rest of the pack slept deeply as the moon traveled the sky and the first lightening of the horizon heralded false dawn. Genesis was serene and more at peace than Sephiroth had ever seen him, even in the aftermath of sex. The warrior’s strong hands touched and caressed the swollen abdomen holding his pups. He could feel the tightening and relaxing of the muscles, could smell the change in Genesis’ scent as hormones went wild and prepared his body for the ordeal to come. The redhead drifted in and out of sleep as the mild contractions came and went.
Angeal woke with the first rays of sun, as he always did. He found it odd that Genesis wasn’t snuggled to his side as he usually was. Genesis didn’t rise early for anything other than war or coffee. Seeing how there wasn’t a war, and he couldn’t smell coffee…he sat up and looked around blearily.
“What are you two doing up already?” he rumbled, reaching up to quickly groom his mussed hair after a hearty head shake.
Genesis smiled at the adorable gesture. “Come here, my love.”
Not bothering to rise, Angeal crawled over to his mates in a way that in any other situation would have made Genesis mad with lust. As it was, the redhead smiled and growled a little under his breath as Angeal sat up on his knees at Genesis’ side. The bigger wolf knelt up and swiftly kissed both Genesis and Sephiroth.
“Give me your hand,” Genesis said, one of his own pale, delicate hands escaping from the nest of blankets he had wrapped himself in. Angeal placed his large paw in Genesis’ and the redhead guided it under the blanket to rest on his stomach next to Sephiroth’s. His muscles seemed to take that as their cue to contract, making Angeal gasp and eyes widen.
“Oh, shit,” Angeal said, looking like he’d been slapped with a board.
Genesis laughed. His were eyes lidded and a little sleepy. “You’re so cute when you just get up,” he teased, stroking the large hand with his own.
“We…we need to, to…oh, shit,” was all Angeal was able to say.
“Everything’s fine,” Genesis soothed. He shifted a little in Sephiroth’s hold to ease the ache in his body. “In fact…I feel wonderful.”
His mates could believe that, with the expression currently on Genesis’ face. It was much akin to the look he had during sex.
None of them had even noticed Zack awaken, so they were all slightly startled when a large, dark shadow hovered over them to place a huge, wet kiss on Genesis’ cheek. “All ready to go, sugar?” Zack smirked.
Genesis rolled his eyes and made shooing motions. “Take care of Cloud, then worry about me. I have these two morons to watch me.”
Zack nodded and smiled. “Just one thing first,” he said and ran over to snatch up a case that lay against the opposite wall. He pulled out a camera and a tripod and trotted back and set it up.
“Is that really necessary?” Genesis sighed, knowing this was going to be something he never wanted to see again if he could help it.
“Cloud will want to see it…when he wakes up,” Zack said, melancholy in his usually excitable voice.
Genesis glanced over to the blond wolf that lay comatose on the bedding. The bright glow of mako poisoning shined through his even his closed eyelids.
“Yes,” Genesis said with a little hitch in his breath. “When he wakes up.”
Zack finished setting up the camera and turned it on before heading over to Cloud to begin the morning ritual of cleaning, feeding, and doing anything he could to make the comatose wolf comfortable.
They all had hope that one day, Cloud would wake up.
And Zack was right…Cloud would want to see this regardless of how embarrassed Genesis would be to have this even caught on tape.
Genesis leaned back into Sephiroth’s encompassing arms. It wouldn’t be long now, he could feel the intensity rising, his body ramping up, and he needed to rest while he could.
Angeal fluttered around the room like some kind of deranged hummingbird. To and fro he went, making the other pack members feel tired just watching him. Genesis finally snapped at the pacing wolf to either settle down or do something productive. Angeal decided on being productive and started retrieving all the items they would need once the pups started coming. Clean water, blankets, extra sheets, the little scale they’d purchased, tiny suction bulbs and cleaning cloths, and a few surgically sharp blades.
“Don’t think you’ll be using those on me, do you?” Genesis raised an eyebrow at the knives. The sight of surgical steel was enough to send the red wolf’s heart racing in fear.
Angeal smiled and continued to set up everything thing he might even remotely need. “We can’t be too careful,” he replied as he sat a bottle of antiseptic on the table.
Genesis eyed the neat bottles safely packed in a small, glass fronted case. Inside were multiple things, including one of the few anesthetics that would work on SOLDIERs like them.
Just in case.
“Everything will be fine,” Sephiroth whispered in Genesis’ finely furred ear. “There won’t be any need to use such things.”
The red wolf breathed deeply and let it out in a worried waver. “I just don’t like seeing it. It makes me nervous.”
Angeal pondered for a moment before throwing a sheet over the table. “There. Does that make you feel better?”
“Oddly enough, yes,” Genesis admitted. He closed his eyes against the next contraction and deep sigh escaped his pursed lips.
“Gen?” Sephiroth murmured worriedly.
The red wolf shook his head, indicating he couldn’t speak at the moment. He breathed evenly as his body stiffened, taut and working hard. When the tension broke, he relaxed again, panting softly.
“Is…is it…?” Angeal worried.
“Oh, Gaia on a crutch, Angie,” Genesis huffed. “I’m in labor, not dying. Just let me concentrate.”
“Should…should we, um, maybe check how far you’re dilated?” Angeal coaxed.
Genesis sighed. “I’m not ready push yet. Settle down and meditate or something.”
Angeal growled softly and settled on his knees next to the two embracing wolves. “Fine. But before you start pushing…”
“I’ll let you touch me in the no-no place,” Genesis smirked.
The dark wolf rolled his eyes. “You’re impossible.”
“You knew that from the moment you met me, now shut up.”
*******************************
It was two hours later that Genesis finally stirred from the trance he’d affected. Outside the door, his hearing could pick up the gentle murmurings of the pride. Zack had informed them of the impending addition of new pack members, and they eagerly awaited any news. At Genesis’ request, only the pack was present in the den. While he was rather fond of the cats, he only wanted his beloved mates with him at this time. This was intensely personal, intensely overwhelming, and he only wanted to share this moment with those he loved with all his heart.
“Angeal,” he said quietly.
The dark wolf lifted his head from where it rested against Genesis’ thigh. “Are you ready?”
Genesis nodded.
With some gentle maneuvering, Sephiroth sat with his back to the window and Genesis supported between his spread legs. Genesis sat on the very edge of the window seat, leaning back into Sephiroth’s embrace. He legs were spread wide and draped over Sephiroth’s strong thighs. Zack helped Angeal untangle the redhead from his nest of blankets until he was exposed, nude and beautiful. They were all nude, actually. It was just a normal part of life now. And with something like this…it only felt natural to be able to touch each other without the barrier of cloth between them.
The redhead’s legs were wet, and so were the blankets. “When did your water break?” Angeal grumped.
“Not long ago,” Genesis said, head lolling comfortably against the silver wolf’s shoulder.
Angeal sighed and shook his head. He snapped a plastic glove onto his hand and tenderly touched Genesis’ inner thigh.
The redhead’s eyebrow rose. “Is the glove really necessary after washing your hands twenty times?”
“We can’t be too careful. The last thing I want to do is make you ill.” With that, Angeal’s fingers snuck up and inside his mate. Genesis flinched and hissed, eyes closing.
“I think you’re fully dilated. I really wish you would have let me spend more time with the midwife.”
“I got jealous thinking of your hands all over those strange women.”
“I was helping them have babies, Gen, and learning how to help you have babies.”
“Well, I hope you paid enough attention because they don’t want to wait any longer.”
Zack knelt not far away, ready with everything he could possibly need once the babies were delivered. He, too, had interned with the midwife. He was ready to focus on the babies while Angeal focused on Genesis.
The redhead had been absolutely against the midwife’s suggestion that he have a C-section. The woman had been very insistent, saying that anyone carrying more than one baby had them surgically delivered these days. Genesis had told her that anyone touching him with a scalpel would be decapitated, and she’d relented. However, she’d insisted that Angeal learn how to do a surgery, just in case. Three babies were hard on the body, and she fretted that Genesis’ narrow hips wouldn’t work in their favor; especially since the borrowed ultrasound showed one of the babies to be quite large.
Genesis only hoped his hips would be just big enough to pass the largest child. He didn’t want to think of the panic attack he would have about any kind of surgery.
His heart may not be able to handle it.
The next contraction overwhelmed him. He focused, separating himself from the pain and simply feeling the irresistible rush of the sullen heat in his pelvis. Genesis gasped and tucked his chin to his chest, muscles rigid. It was more intense this time. The build and flex had been working up to this, this ultimate of sacrifices and responsibilities. This greatest of miracles.
Zack’s face was soft and amazed as he watched Genesis work. The redhead’s expression was nearly blissful, even as he worked so terribly hard to birth their pups. It was beautiful.
Long minutes turned into an hour, then an hour and a half, then two.
“Gen…the largest baby is trying to come first, and it isn’t going to work. Your pelvis is too small. I can’t let you keep going like this,” Angeal said pleadingly.
And he was right, Genesis cursed internally. He could feel it, the concentrated stretch of bones that were splayed as far as they would go. He could feel the heavy push of the baby’s head against his pelvis.
“No…you aren’t cutting me open,” he panted.
“Gen, the baby can’t take much more of this. I can hear his heartbeat faltering, and-”
“I know, Angeal. I can hear it too,” Genesis yelled, then groaned as another contraction rolled over him and he fought to keep from pushing until they decided on what to do. Pushing any more would punish is unborn child even more.
The redhead’s breath hitched and his hands clamped strongly on Sephiroth’s thighs. “I have an idea. You’re not going to like it, but you’re going to do it.”
“Gen…” Sephiroth tried to cut in, but he was silenced by Genesis slapping his leg.
“Push the baby’s head back as far as you can. Get it out of the way of my pelvis, then break the bone. It’s weak, near the symphysis from being broken before.”
Angeal looked horrified and Zack’s jaw dropped. “Gen, I can’t. I can’t do that.”
“Is it any worse than putting me under and gutting me like a fish?” he hissed. “Just fucking do it.”
Angeal’s movements were faltering as he touched the apex of Genesis’ thighs. “If I can’t get the babies out of the way,” he said with horrified conviction, “then we’ll find another way.”
“Fine,” Genesis nodded. “Fine.”
Angeal’s large hand slipped inside and Genesis moaned. Gently, so gently he felt the head of their child braced against the too-narrow pelvis. He didn’t expect the head to move considering the severe contractions and the overcrowding of the tight space with no less than three babies, but Genesis proved his absolute focus by relaxing muscles that shouldn’t be able to be relaxed when prodded by so many hormones.
Slowly and with deliberate gentleness, Angeal pushed the baby back and sighed as he felt little resistance. He glanced up as he saw Zack out of the corner of his eye and nodded as the younger wolf offered Genesis a folded bit of leather to bite on. The redhead took it, then turned his attention inward; focus, breath, concentrate.
Angeal’s hand formed a fist and Genesis groaned around the gag at the intense stretching pain. The bigger wolf’s other hand felt along the top of Genesis pelvis, pushing and testing until he found a place he thought would work. A brief glance at Genesis’ flushed, contorted face and the redhead nodded. He’d found the right spot.
“On three. One, two-” and his hand came down in a fast, powerful blow before Genesis could tense.
Genesis screamed through his gag and Sephiroth supported the slender body as it writhed in his hold. The redhead could feel the small piece of strong cartilage holding the front of his pelvis together rip. He’d planned on Angeal breaking the bone, but this worked as well. Now either side of the pelvis could rotate a little more. The worst of the pressure was gone…
But not the pain.
But pain could be ignored, and he ripped the gag out of his mouth and bore down hard with the next contraction, which seemed to be beyond constant now. Angeal’s hands were fast. Once he felt the sudden fluidity of the bones he was holding, his fingers were immediately withdrawn and at the ready. Now able to spread as far as it needed to, Genesis’ pelvis widened easily with a bright, flaring burst of pain.
The head immediately slipped farther than before, and another effort of rippling muscles had the babe’s crown emerging.
“Here he comes, Gen,” Angeal whispered reverently.
The redhead nodded and relaxed for a moment as the contraction eased. He breathed sharply, taking in all the oxygen he could before sucking in a final, deep breath and bearing into the next surge.
With a terrible grunt of effort and horrific pain, the head came free and suddenly slipped into Angeal’s waiting hands. Angeal was startled, expecting the broad child to be stopped by the shoulders. However, as soon as the head cleared the rest slid free in a slick slide of fluid and blood. The big wolf didn’t stop to appreciate his first born, not just yet. He efficiently tied off and cut the cord before handing the baby to Zack, who immediately set to work clearing the child’s nose and mouth. It was only moments later that a heaving cry built through the air from strong, healthy little lungs.
Genesis laughed, even as his body screamed at the maltreatment it was receiving. He’d be fine. He was a SOLDIER, after all. Pain was expected and welcomed, especially as this pain meant something wonderful. At the end of this pain would be more than just the results of another pointless test.
The second child came much easier, his bigger brother having opened the way. A few concentrated efforts on Genesis’ part, and the second baby glided free.
The third came almost too quickly. Angeal had barely past the second child to Zack before the last child came out in a gush of liquid and blood and a wailing scream fit to shatter eardrums.
Zack’s eager hands took the third child and Angeal helped Genesis deliver the afterbirth as well as clean him up as well as he could. The big alpha mourned the terrible bruising and contusions caused by his blow to his mate. He had sworn to never hurt his mate and this…it broke his heart.
“Materia?” Angeal asked of the redhead.
Genesis nodded. Now that the determination to bear his children had waned, all he was left with was debilitating pain. “Do what you can.”
Angeal nodded. They’d been warned by the midwife that use of materia to reproductive organs closely after delivery could cause irreversible damage. The only thing he could do for his mate’s pain was heal his broken pelvis.
With concentrated effort and singular concentration, Angeal healed the torn piece of cartilage that held the bones together. It wouldn’t be strong for a long time and Genesis would have to take it easy, but he would heal. A quick scan of the remainder of the shivering, sweating body revealed nothing that Angeal didn’t already know.
The redhead was exhausted and in more agony than he wanted to admit. No matter what he did he’d be in a disgusting amount of pain.
But it was alright. Everything was more amazing than it had any right to be. He smiled. Genesis smiled like a mad-man as he was lowered into the nest of blankets after he’d been cleaned and padded to catch any remaining fluid as it drained. Zack had arranged the three babies, wrapped in soft blankets, in the nest. Genesis was placed down next to them so, despite the excruciating pain, he could curl around them as his instincts demanded.
Zack disappeared for a moment as he delivered some quick, delighted news to those that waited outside the den and took apart the camera. The disc inside was safely stored away, ready to be watched when necessary. Sephiroth perched behind Genesis, slowly stroking the redhead’s fatigue shivering muscles.
“Do you want anything for the pain?” Angeal whispered, not wanting to disturb the quietly resting pups.
Genesis shook his head. “I don’t want to be foggy for this and it could…end up in my…” he glanced disgustedly down at his slightly swollen chest. It was almost unnoticeable, and if he had been wearing a shirt one wouldn’t even notice the shapely swelling. But nude like this, the vestigial breasts were perceptible to those who knew Genesis’ body intimately.
“Gen,” Zack whispered, settling down on the other side of the babies. “You have no idea how beautiful you are right now.”
Angeal leaned down and kissed Genesis’ pale, slightly clammy forehead. “I never thought I’d be given this blessing. You are the Goddess’ gift to us.”
“Truly,” Sephiroth confirmed. “I never once believed I’d have a chance like this. I can’t…I don’t even know what to say…” he choked, obvious tears in his voice.
Genesis smiled tiredly, reaching out to brush the dry, soft fuzz of the middle baby’s gently curved ear. The child hadn’t screamed like the others, but he was breathing deeply and calmly. His little eyes opened briefly, showing Genesis not the typical cloudy eyes of a newborn, but shining green.
Tiny, perfect puppy ears, tiny, perfect puppy tails, tiny perfect everything on all three children. He couldn’t believe what he’d just done. To create life like this…
Genesis looked up as Zack pulled Cloud close, holding the limp, comatose body against his side. “Look, Cloud,” the brunet wolf whispered, gently running his hand up and down the blond’s lax arm. “It’s our babies. Can you believe it?”
The blond didn’t respond, but Genesis could have sworn he saw a brief flash of life in the poisoned green of Cloud’s eyes.
“This one has to be yours, Angeal,” Genesis said tiredly while he touched the chubby little cheek of the oldest baby.
“They all have silver hair, Gen,” Angeal chuckled, gazing with soft, loving eyes at his pups.
“But look at him,” the redhead protested. “He looks just like you.”
Sephiroth tilted his head. “He does look like you.”
Angeal looked closer, examining the healthy, hefty baby. “He does have my chin.”
“This one looks like Seph,” Zack said, tucking the blanket tighter around the second child.
Genesis nodded and touched the third’s tiny hand. He was definitely the smallest of the three. Extremely small, almost too small. If Genesis wasn’t absolutely certain he’d carried the little beast for nine long, long months he’d say the child was premature. For being so tiny, he was completely healthy. Fully developed and ready to begin life. Fiery and demanding from the outset.
“And that one,” Angeal said with a huge smile, “is an exact clone of you, Gen.”
The redhead smiled. “Obviously.”
“Well,” Sephiroth said, discretely brushing tears from his eyes. “You very loudly reserved the right to name them,” he said, lovingly stroking the pelt of Genesis’ back. “So, what did you narrow it down to?”
Limp with exhaustion and pain, Genesis’ eyes drooped as he came close to passing out. One last thing, and he could rest.
He needed to name his pups.
“Loz,” he said, touching the eldest.
“Yazoo,” the second.
“Kadaj,” the last.
With that, he closed his eyes and slipped into the slumber of the deeply fatigued and terribly sated. His mates curled around him and the new, beautiful little pups. They would protect their rest. It was their job, to protect and provide, and they would do it with pleasure.
For their pack.
