Summary: “It’s not pot!” Zack hurriedly explained.
A/N: Written from prompt: Rufus is trying to impress important guests, and Reno…is Reno. Just a reminder that these drabbles are not posted in timeline order. Go to the Chronological Order Post for a list of them in order.

“This is the main training complex for the highest ranked SOLDIERs,” Rufus introduced to the large group of investors that tailed him. The building was monstrous. It housed gyms large enough to hold practice drills for the entire cadet corps, the VR simulators, weight rooms, locker rooms, and private sparring rooms.

The expensively dressed, upper crust men that examined the place with looks ranging from barely impressed to awed to calculating.

“We are looking to expand the VR simulators to include rooms for cadet training. Right now, we only have the capacity to offer VR to upper class SOLDIERs and their trainees.”

A few men nodded and a few others murmured.

Rufus sighed. He hated this job. The men he dragged around the complex were boring drones with too much money and too little personality. They were all alike and vaguely nauseating.

He walked them through one of the empty VR rooms and had them watch a portion of a spar between two hybridized Thirds. They entered one of the large gyms. The ceilings were huge, enough to almost contain battling Firsts, if they were being careful. Of course, a vigorous fight between Sephiroth and any of the other Firsts would blow the place apart. Luckily, if they were going to be that overactive while sparring the Firsts took it outside to one of the training fields outside of Midgar.

Rufus had thought this particular gym was scheduled to be empty at this time of day, so was surprised when he caught the sight of one of his Turks and a SOLDIER in the middle of the massive space.

The blond executive looked at Tseng with a raised eyebrow. The Wutian gazed back with a look that, to Rufus, expressed exasperation and a certain kind of deeply buried fondness. To anyone else, Tseng looked just as collected as ever.

“Is that a SOLDIER First hybrid?” one of the investors asked with interest. A distinctive black uniform clothed the SOLDIER, making it obvious the boy was a First. The fluffy ears and tail weren’t exactly subtle either.

Rufus resisted the urge to groan and wince. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Meetings with the Firsts usually ended with investors being offended or horrified in one way or another. And if this was the First Rufus thought it was…

“Can we meet him?” another suited affluent asked.

Internally, Rufus sighed a very deep, regretful sigh. “Of course.”

The group of men approached the two, revealed as Zack and Reno, and Rufus resisted the urge to smack his forehead with his palm. Zack was giggling rather manically as Reno rolled around on the ground.

“What, may I ask, are you doing?” Rufus questioned blandly.

Zack snorted and held up a little baggie filled with dried green plant material.

Tseng’s cool mask dropped. “Are you…is that…?”

“It’s not pot!” Zack hurriedly explained.

“Then…what is it?” Tseng asked with trepidation as he watched Reno languidly stretch then wriggle on his back toward Rufus with a huge, stupid smile on his face.

“Cat nip,” Zack hiccupped with laughter.

Reno tried to roll onto his hands and knees, but ended up overestimating his strength and went up and over onto his other side. He looked vaguely perplexed for a moment then snorted with laughter. “Wow,” the redhead said very slowly. “I think the floor is moving.”

Zack pulled a long stick off the floor that had a string and a ball of feathers attached. He dangled it over Reno and laughed his ass off as the redhead tried to bat at the object only to fall all over the place and end up on his face.

“Well, sirs, it seems they are busy,” Rufus said hurriedly. “Let’s move along.” Rufus glared heavily at a madly grinning Zack as he and Tseng ushered the perplexed businessmen out of the gym.

You are in so much trouble when I get home tonight,” Tseng hissed at Reno as he left.

Reno laughed and then stopped abruptly. “Holy shit I think I just discovered the meaning of life.”

“Which is?” Zack asked with amusement in is voice.

“Where’s that puffy thing? I need to crown it King!”
