Chapter 4
Dr. Kadowaki starts off the autopsies on Biggs first. His blood was clean of any drugs or alcohol. With their help she proceeds to examine his internal organs.
Meanwhile, Selphie is mournfully taking her new pet to the kennel. The kennel itself was twenty five feet long and wide but poorly lit. Some of the chocobo are sleeping in a bunch while the awake ones check out Bob. Selphie is pleased by Bob’s acceptance and goes off.
The others are taking things easy. Irvine is smoking and watching the television but nothing good was one. Zell looses interest in the television and goes back to reading one of his magazines.
In the rec room, Seifer is watching the movies made of the outpost. Has hours of mundane actives to look forward to. Boring work he took upon himself to do, after all he had to find out what happened to Rinoa.
Kiros looked at the slide through a microscope. Quistis took notation as Dr. Kadowaki had the organs examined and weighted. All this shows Biggs was a healthy male.
They both move onto the corpse of Rinoa. This one proves to be puzzling to them all. The cell samples were not human.
Dr. Kadowaki, “ What is this?”
Kiros, “ That's my whole point.”
Quistis sighs as she was tired.” What do you mean?”
Kiros, “ This is not any kind of biological structure we know of. This might be some strange new mutation.”
Quistis, “ All I know is that I’m tired. Lets all take a break and come back in a few hours.”
The girls go to have a nap but Kiros stays by the corpse. This creature might have started off as Rinoa but something happened. Something that truly scares him.
The weather turns nasty as sleet pounds the compound. By now almost everyone is asleep, except Seifer who has been watching the old movies. Then something catches his attention. Seifer rewinds to catch it.
The Galbadian people are stabbing over a huge flat glacier. Something enormous appears to be inside the ice. Rinoa claps her hand pleased about it as well. They mark off the ledge of the unknown object with flags. The film skips ahead and they are digging a hole into the ice. The object appears to be made of a strange metal. Seifer is intrigued by this. Watches how the men use thermal charges to break the ice apart even more. The explosions seem to cause the camera to shake. Enough vibrations to make the lens crack. The rest of the footage is blurred and hard to understand.
Even the chocobo are asleep. Well, except for Bob the chocobo. Bob was sitting up in a chocobo fashion but so rigid and still. Stares at them like a creepy chocobo doll. Then Bob stands up and walks towards a bunch of Chocobos. They wake up, aware something unnatural is close to them. Bob both confuses and scares them. Bob sits back down. That doesn’t drop their nervousness. They squawk as the sense of danger increases. Bob remains as still as a statue. One of the chocobo gives a warning to him. But he doesn’t respond to it. This sends them into a panic.
Seifer is the first to hear the noise from the kennel. Feels the hairs on his neck rise though he is not sure why. Laguna hears the noise in his sleep. Makes him toss and turn. Selphie is out cold cold when Seifer enters her room. She was a heavy sleeper but Seifer finally wakes her.
Seifer, “ Your chocobos are going nuts. Lets shut them up.”
Selphie grumbles as the sleepy little cutie walks down the cold corridor to the kennels. She wonders why he didn’t pester Zell first. Often suspected he was fucking Zell up the ass. Not that she cared, as long as she sooner or later gets the juicy details of it.
The Kennel is hard to look into. Selphie opens the door to almost be run over by two panicking Chocobo. Inside is a hideous creature that seems once have been a chocobo. From it rises terrible screeching. Selphie then hits the alarm.
They all coming running to the kennel. Ward has his harpoon, gunblade specialist their weapons, Laguna his machine-gun, and Quistis her whip, while the others were more suitable for close combat.
Selphie, “ There is something messed up in there eating our chocobos!”
Zell, “ We have to kill it now!”
Squall, “ Laguna and I can fire at it. Seifer go get the flame-throwers! “
Laguna, “ Gotcha!”
Their gun fire doesn’t seem to really stop the monster who by now is battling the chocobos inside the kennel still. Fire of the guns gives the kennel some lights showing more of the horrifying monster. Seifer is soon back with flame-throwers. Ward grabs a spare flame-thrower from seifer.
Seifer, “ We are gonna roast that.. thing!”
Selphie, “ NO! “ charges in there and grabs a few chocobos out of the way before she is hurled into a wall.
With that the two began to toast the monster. The thing squawks in pain. Soon part of the kennels also starts to burn. As soon as they think the creature is dead, they start to put the fire out.
Zell, “ What the hell was that?!”
