Bweeeep! Bweeeep! The tinny ring of a cell
phone caused the blond-haired lump to stir. “Go ‘way!” he grumbled.

Bweeeep! Bweeeep!

“Guh!” Cloud fumbled blindly through his
pants’ pockets. “Hello?”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>“I’ve
missed you little one…”

Cloud bolted upright. “S-Sephiroth?” he
croaked.

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>“…”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>

“Hello? Hello!”

The line was dead.

Cloud jumped out of bed and swiped his
clothes off of the floor.

“Where are you going?” Vincent grumbled.

“I’ll be back soon.” Cloud replied, ignoring
the question completely. He pocketed his phone before thundering from the room,
and out the front door.

“Reeeow!”

“Sorry Shadow!” Cloud cried as he stumbled
and hopped on one foot for a moment. “Get in the house already!” he mumbled
shoving the cat through the door.

As soon as the dark fur ball was inside, he
slammed the door and ran to Fenrir. Cloud revved up the engine before speeding
off towards Midgar. He almost dumped the bike twice around tight corners. The
roar of the engine was almost deafening as it reached its limit.

Skittering to a sideways halt in front of the
Aerith’s church, Cloud flipped the kickstand before jumping off and sprinting
into the building. The old floor boards groaned as Cloud dashed down the aisle,
and he staggered for a moment when one of the pieces of wood gave way under his
heel.

He stopped and panted for breath at the edge
of the flower garden. The pool of water was shallower than before, but nothing
else looked out of place.

“Aerith!” he called. “Where the hell are
you?”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>“That’s
no way to greet friends, Cloud.”
Her comforting
voice filled his mind, and a tingling sensation ran down his spine.

“I got a call this morning,” He growled.

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>“I
had to think of some way to get you to the church.”
style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>She
chuckled, seemingly amused by the entire situation. “It is time.”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>

“You couldn’t tell me yesterday that I’d have
to pick him up today?” Cloud queried.

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>“I’m
sorry Cloud. We thought it would take much longer to prepare him. It normally
takes a few days for a spirit to prepare for a new form.”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>

“Should this be a warning?”

Aerith shook her head. “No. In fact it’s a good sign. We would be worried if it took him too
long to adjust to a natural form.”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>

“Meaning…”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>“Meaning
his spirit has been cleansed of Jenova.”
style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>Aerith
finished.

“Where is he?”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>“One
moment,”
Aerith closed her eyes and smiled. The pool
of water began to glow a bright Mako green, and Cloud could see at the center
of it, a brighter glow. Small flickers of light swirled in the pool, and Cloud
watched as they pulled together into a more solid and undeniably human form. style='mso-bidi-font-style:normal'>“You seem nervous,” Aerith whispered.

“You’re bringing the most powerful man in
existance back to life,” Cloud snipped.

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>“You
are the most powerful, Cloud. You defeated Sephiroth more than once.”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>

“That’s not comforting me at all.”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>“I’m
sorry. We’re almost finished.”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>

Cloud stared at the water once again. The
green glow was fading, but it left in it’s wake pale human flesh and silver
streaked hair.

Cloud blushed. “Um… Aerith… He’s not wearing
any clothes!”

Aerith laughed outright at this, but never
let her concentration waver. “I’m surprised
that bothers you Cloud. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do to help.
You’re not born with clothes after all.”

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>

Cloud remained silent as Aerith’s brow knit
in further concentration, and Sephiroth’s form ascended to the surface of the
pool.

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN'>“Go
to him,”
Aerith sighed, glad to be able to rest for a
moment.

Cloud did not need further prompting, and was
slightly shocked at his own actions as he ran into the pool pulling Sephiroth’s
body into his arms. He ran his hand over the silver haired man’s delicate
features. Perfect, just like he remembered.

“Aerith---” he started, but when he turned
around, she was gone.

The reality of the situation set in as
Sephiroth began to cough up water and shiver uncontrollably. Cloud promptly
held Sephiroth closer to his body and dragged them both from the pool. Cloud
fumbled for his cell phone, and was grateful that it hadn’t been water logged.
Panicky fingers pressed a few buttons and he waited for an answer, staring in
horror as Sephiroth’s lips started turning a purple-blue and his shivering
worsened.

Cloud
clutched Sephiroth’s limp form as close as he could with one arm, while the
other held the phone up to his ear.

“Please
pick up! Please pick up!” Cloud muttered. “Pick up this once and I’ll answer
the phone for a month!”

“Hello?”
Came a sleep garbled reply.

“Vincent!”
Cloud yelped.

“Cloud?
Where are you?”

“I-I’m at
the church. Aerith told me and I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, but I thought she
might be wrong and---” he rambled, stricken with panic.

“Get to
the point.”

Cloud
took a deep breath.
“Sephirothcamebacktolifeandhe’snakedandGetDownHere’CAUSEWENEEDCLOTHES!”

“The
church is naked and stole Sephiroth’s clothes?” Vincent grumbled half asleep.

“BRING ME
YOUR CLOTHES!” Cloud yelled, wincing at his own harsh tone.

“Got it…”
Vincent mumbled and hung up.

Cloud
sighed and tucked his phone back in his pocket, before pulling off his
half-skirt and tucking it as best he could over Sephiroth. He couldn’t help but
smile weakly as he tucked a silver strand behind the man’s ear. The proud
General was alive, albeit barely, but Cloud was determined that this time would
be different. This time he would save the one he loved.

And then
he paused. He’d promised to stay with Vincent. He LOVED Vincent, but he loved
Sephiroth as well. Cloud chuckled to himself. The universe was a cruel lady
with an angel face.
