The Turks Secret Weapon

“Are you threatening me?” Lore was kind of scared Cloud would answer “yes” because he was at a giant disadvantage physically against Cloud and was at the moment pinned down on a bed.

“No, I’m not stupid enough to hurt the only one that can give me answers… Although I wish I could kill that stupid voice that keeps telling me about some kind of ‘reunion’…”

Reunion? Didn’t he hear Hojo muttering happily about a reunion? Hojo was also acting even more strangely than usual nowadays. He had even made Lore prepare a specimen tank because they were moving Jenova to the Shinra building, and Lore thought Hojo believed Jenova was too important to have in an office building. He was putting out bait…For who?

“Ok, I’ll tell you the truth. I don’t really know you. I work for Shinra, you know, they’re the reason your hometown was destroyed,” Cloud released his grip on Lore and allowed him to sit up, “Funny thing is they destroyed my life too and yet I work for them…”

“My hometown….Nibelheim? I remember…It was burned down; I was in SOLDIER then, wasn’t I?” Cloud was concentrating trying to muster up a chain of events that could possibly try to explain what was happening. The memories seemed to be popping out of nowhere, it was strange.

They’re kicking in! Hojo really can alter one’s memories…Lore was a bit scared at his revelation. Cloud was remembering things that never occurred; all the thoughts, feelings, and actions he had were complete fabrications made by one perverted, twisted scientist.

“Cloud, you have to stop them,” Lore’s words came out by themselves and he couldn’t stop them, “Shinra needs to be destroyed. Your childhood friend lives in Midgar, Sector 7. She is part of a terrorist organization, AVALANCHE. I’ll bring you to the train station, we have to be quick once we’re out of my apartment. They monitor the upper plate constantly and I know HE’ll be watching…”

Cloud stared at his raven-haired savior. What? Was this guy telling him that the little brunette he saw before was now a terrorist and that he wanted Cloud to destroy his employer? Out of all those questions the one that bothered him the most was who was HE? Cloud had felt he was being watched since he woken up outside of Midgar and it was bothering him. There was some outer influence which was actively toying with his mind. That influence stopped him from asking the question he most wanted answered.

“I know this is confusing, but we need to get out of here,” Lore grabbed Cloud and his sword and headed out of the door.

Tseng walked through the halls of the 67th floor of the Shinra building. He hated this floor, it was where Hojo stored most of his experiments; Jenova was also just recently placed there. He walked into the lab office expecting to find the professor hunched over a desk chuckling evilly over some new discovery, instead he was surprised to find a sleeping person covered in paperwork.

“Excuse me, um…” This must be Hojo’s new assistant, Tseng felt extremely sorry for the guy. Hojo’s assistant was a job by forced appointment only.

The assistant slowly raised his head; Tseng swear he saw his dead colleague come back to life. Damn that sick bastard, he killed Valentine and now is toying with a surrogate…Wasn’t stealing Lucrecia and destroying Valentine’s life enough to satisfy him?! Tseng’s thoughts were carefully shielded by his stoic expression.

“Yes, Sir? I’m sorry I was sleeping…Please don’t tell the Professor.” The boy’s ruby eyes were staring pleadingly into Tseng’s. How many people in the world had red eyes?

“I didn’t come here to try and see if I could get you into trouble. I had heard that Hojo’s new assistant had experience in robotics and my men are currently implementing a surveillance system and have need of your expertise.” Tseng was going to have fun seeing the expressions on his colleagues’ faces when he showed them this assistant.
“Yes Sir, I have never had the pleasure of working with the Turks before…” Lore was wondering what part of the world the Turks didn’t have under surveillance; but then again they still hadn’t caught AVALANCHE., the slums were harder to monitor, “I will have to check in with the Professor…”

Tseng smiled, “No need I’ll inform him where you are if he asks.”

Hojo was going to be mad. He still had a lot of paperwork to do and his nap hadn’t helped the situation…

The Turks worked underneath the Shinra building and was surrounded by abandoned train tracks. It was Lore’s first time there and he didn’t look forward to going back to Hojo.

What was strange was how everyone kept staring at him in amazement like he was a ghost or something. Sure he was pale and did have red eyes but he had never attracted so much attention before.

“Ah, so you must be Lore, I’m Reeve,” a friendly-looking man extended his hand to Lore, “ I’m sure Tseng has told you the intent of this project; however, you will find that our design may be a bit different…..”

Reeve took out several blueprints for robotic chocobos, moggles, and cats.

“Yes…That certainly is different. Wouldn’t robotic moggles attract attention?” Lore didn’t want to sound stuck-up but robotic chocobos looked stupid.

“ Think. There is one place where oversized moggles and chocobos are commonplace and in this place a lot of shady, illegal activity goes on that Shinra would like to monitor.”

“The Gold Saucer?! You’re going to spy on people there?” Lore wondered how much of the unsavory activity was actually conducted by Shinra officials, probably about 95%.

“Yes. I want you to construct several of this design,” Lore looked at the most ridiculous, overweight moggle with a cat sitting on its head holding a megaphone. Taking this project seriously was going to be hard.

Lore had left Cloud on the train. Sector 7 was his destination. Cloud noted that it was getting close to two months since he had woke-up. It was a bit weird not remembering anything before that time. It seemed like his first day on the Planet that day and now he was going to join a terrorist organization after being alive only weeks.

Tifa. He was going to be fine as long as he was with someone who knew him. He couldn’t wait to erase all uncertainty know his mind.

What are you uncertain about? Is there something not quite right?

I don’t have time for this…Go away!!! I’m just about to figure everything out! The voice liked to tease and taunt him. It seemed amused at Cloud’s predicament and would feed Cloud confusing images of a man with silver hair. Cloud had come to realize that the voice was only willing to help on its own terms.

Do you not trust me? I’m always here with you; and you should trust what is always constant. I am constant.

You just seem to confuse me more…And you keep trying to push that guy out of my mind. The one with dark hair…

Does it matter? You don’t even know your own purpose. You’re like a little puppet, you need to be told what to do.

I’m not going to have you tell me what to do! You’re just a figment of my imagination. You’re not real!

Yes Cloud, there’s only you here but there’s a certain part you’ve seemed to forgot. I want to remind you of your duties, my sweet. You have to comply with my wishes because you are just a weak part of me.

A part of you?? You must be joking. I’m going to Tifa and she’ll tell me everything!

Will she? Why don’t you try asking her what happened I bet she’ll dodge the question.
She won’t want to admit the reality that you are mine.

She wouldn’t lie to me, we were best friends…

You were best friends? That will be news to her. I thought you were a scared little mountain boy who got picked on all the time. You are just a puppet.

Cloud felt tears well up in the corner of his eyes. The voice was laughing at him, it felt like it was ripping his mind apart. The air around Cloud gained body and pressed down on his shoulders, forcing him to the ground. The pressure was pushing all the air out of Cloud’s lungs making him feel faint, “I’M NOT A PUPPET!!!!!!”

Cloud screamed until he felt himself collapse completely on the ground; luckily the next stop was Sector 7.

Ok...probably you know what happens next (at least the gist of it) but I might take it a little differently...Please don't kill me. I love the storyline of FVII (In fact I'm using the Ultimania to double-check my facts, I'm such a dork)!
