Chapter 4
Late, As Always
Chapter 4
The first of a few short chapters. They're kinda dramatic and involve brutality, so be warned.
-----------------------
Sephiroth howled in anguish as Cloud collapsed. He had hoped that the cure would be painless, yet there Cloud was, obviously in pain and now very much unconscious.
“You…you evil bastard!” he screamed, whirling around to face the researcher. “You said…you…why is he unconscious?!”
“I told you that it was only theoretical,” Hojo snapped. “Although, I had been hoping for a success.”
Sephiroth’s winged opened and twitched. “So, this was a failure, then?”
Hojo panicked, seeing evil in the General’s intense green eyes. What on Gaia have I done? he thought, knowing Jenova was lurking just beneath the surface, ready to kill should she have the opportunity.
“Um, it was!” he corrected quickly. “I meant that I had hoped for a lack of side effects. He should be fine soon.”
“See something familiar, Hojo?” Sephiroth asked, although his voice was different.
Hojo froze. Sephiroth only sounded like that when Jenova had taken over. The researcher knew that it could be very bad, for they only allowed the beast to be free before critical battles… The General didn’t need a power boost, yet sometimes he was reluctant to kill.
“Jenova,” he whispered. “Why? What purpose have you here?”
Hojo was across the room in a matter of seconds. He gasped for air as Sephiroth/Jenova approached, now red eyes glaring.
“The man is in pain,” Jenova stated. “I have come to murder you for him.”
Masamune sliced through white robes and into the skin of Hojo’s chest. The man yelped in pain, clutching the wound. Various other slashes soon followed.
“Rot in hell,” came an odd voice after Jenova decided that Hojo was maimed and near death. After a few moments, Hojo realized that both Sephiroth and Jenova were speaking at once.
Red faded from the General’s eyes to be replaced by emerald.
“You will not be seeing me again,” he said. “I’m taking Cloud and leaving.”
Sephiroth flew over to Cloud and threw the lithe boy over his shoulder. He then flew for the door, and then paused. Smiling maliciously, he flapped his wings once, pulsed red, and the lab exploded.
Even in his unconscious thoughts, Cloud thought he heard an evil cackle through the roar of flames around him.
