The sky was cloudy that morning. It matched Reno’s mood perfectly when he woke. Depressed, confused, and weary. He would have rather slept the whole day through. However, he had some things to take care of and he knew that he wouldn’t have fun doing it.
Reno stretched his arms over his head, stretching his back before standing up. He wandered into the bathroom, since it was connected to his room, and splashed water into his face. His arms wobbled while holding on to the sides of the sink as he breathed. A certain person wouldn’t leave his mind: Vincent. He loved the guy, loved him to death. He was just too adorable and sweet. But at the same time, he was mad, mad that Vincent would sleep with Rude. No, he shouldn’t be mad at Vincent. He should be angry at Rude. Rude had a conscience; he knew what he was doing, he knew who he was doing it to. Vincent, however, had no idea what was going on. Now, he knew, it was time to read the rest of that book, to finally understand what went through Vincent’s mind.
Reno went back into his room, threw on a change of clothes and headed towards the door. He tried opening it but he bumped against something. Slowly, he pushed the door further open so he could slip through. At first, he thought Rude had stuck a chair in front of the door in an attempt to keep him in his room, but it was something much different. It was Vincent. Reno figured since he locked his door, Vincent couldn’t get in and waited outside his door. Now Reno felt worse, especially with the lump that formed inside his throat. Carefully, he lifted Vincent, who stirred slightly but instantly nuzzled into Reno’s chest, still asleep, up into his arms. Reno carried him into his room and laid him on his bed, bringing the sheets up and tucked Vincent in. He smiled as Vincent twisted around to his side and buried his face into the pillow, obviously very comfortable. Then again, this is probably the first time Vincent has slept on a bed. Reno watched him sleep for a second before leaving the room closing the door partly, just enough to let a little bit of light in.
As Reno walked through the kitchen, he noticed the coloring book still lay on the table. He wandered over and looked at it. It was messy, something a child would do, and something Reno had expected. What caught his eye though were some pieces of paper next to it. His heart sank as he picked one up and studied it. It was Vincent and him. They were holding hands and both had big smiles on their faces. Between them was a sloppy drawn heart. A knot begun to form in his throat and it ached as he held back his tears. Vincent loved him. No, he loved Reno as a Master, and Reno was sure that Vincent would want him to love him as a Pet.
He knew it wasn’t right, but he didn’t want to think about it right now. Talking to Vincent would be better, than assuming from pictures he drew.
Reno was sipping on his morning tea when Rude entered the room. Reno glared at him, not making any gesture to begin talking to him.
All Rude could do was rub the back of his head and glance over to Reno over his sunglasses. That’s when he couldn’t take it anymore and walked over to Reno with a plea on his face. “Look Reno. I’m sorry alright!”
Reno turned his head to the left, ignoring him.
“What? You’re going to ignore me now?” Rude scoffed.
“No. I just vowed not to talk to you.”
“Oh yeah? When did this happen?”
“About 3 seconds ago.” Reno faced Rude again, glaring up at him.
Rude groaned, rubbing his forehead. He figured it would be no use to fighting. He knew when Reno gave him that look, he was serious. He muttered some words before heading to the counter, grabbing a tea cup and poured some tea for himself.
That’s when Reno’s attention turned to his door to his room, where he heard some soft footsteps. Vincent stood at his door, his hair looking even messier, his clothes slightly wrinkled, and he looked very pale. Reno knew he had to get him to a doctor to get him checked out. Reno stood up, which caused Vincent to lift his gaze from the floor to Reno’s eyes.
As soon as his eyes met Reno’s, a sudden sadness overcame Vincent and he lunged towards Reno, wrapping his arms around him, and began to cry. Reno nearly stumbled backwards when Vincent hung all of his weight on him. “I’m sorry Master!” Vincent sobbed, clinging tighter. “I’m sorry! I’ll never do it again! Please Master! Don’t send me back!”
Reno could only hold Vincent, comforting him the best he could. He could feel Vincent bury himself deeper in his chest as he continued to cry.
“I’m sorry… Master…” Vincent said again, muffled by Reno’s shirt.
“It’s okay.” Reno finally said, pushing Vincent away gently so he could look at his face. He wiped away a tear as he caressed Vincent’s cheek. “You were only doing what I told you to. I just didn’t know that Rude would do something like that.” Reno raised his voice higher purposely for Rude to hear.
Rude just glared and went back to watching television.
Reno turned back to Vincent and smiled, drying off his cheeks even more. “I’m not going to punish you for what you did, alright? So don’t cry.”
Vincent watched Reno for awhile before lowering his head slightly. “Okay.”
Reno took Vincent into the bathroom and let him go to the bathroom, which Reno noticed that he almost looked in pain when he went. Most likely a blatter infection. Reno thought. Something else he wanted to the doctors to check for. Reno combed Vincent’s hair afterwards, which was extremely tangled from not being brushed for nearly 3 days, and put on some of his own clean clothes on Vincent. He really didn’t want people pointing and staring at either of them when they went out. But then again, Vincent’s going to have a leash attached to his collar which Reno will be holding. That will most likely gather enough glances and stares from people anyways.
After he had cleaned him up and put his leash on, Reno headed to the door with Vincent, only to be called out by Rude.
“Where are you going?” Rude asked simply, wondering if Reno would actually reply, despite making the vow.
Reno stood silent for a second before looking over his shoulder. “The mall and then to the hospital.” He replied, and walked out the door.
Rude didn’t move when he heard the engine of his car start up. He wasn’t going to chase down Reno like he always did when Reno took his car without permission. Reno deserved it. Besides, Rude wasn’t going anywhere at the moment anyways.
~~~~~
The mall was packed, the usual for the weekend. Reno ignored the stares and the turning heads that he and Vincent were receiving. He walked into a department store where he basically got all his clothes from. Even at cheap prices, he found pretty good stuff here. Reno picked out a few things before heading to the dressing room with Vincent, who was looking and poking at everything.
“Okay…” Reno began, taking a breath after he closed the dressing room door. He slid Vincent’s shirt up and held up another. “Let’s see what size you are.”
After a painstaking process of putting on, taking off, getting arms stuck in the sleeves, pants being way too loose or way too tight in, Reno carried two large shopping bags out of the store. He didn’t even think he bought that much, even though he bought some stuff for himself too. There goes yesterday’s hourly pay, but it was towards a good cause. He threw some panties in the pile of clothes as well, ignoring his decent part of his mind and the cashier’s odd glances. Vincent looked cute in them and even though he was a man, they fit pretty nicely. Vincent didn’t complain. Then again, he probably wouldn’t anyways.
Metal clanking together and the sound of footsteps were the only sounds they heard as they walked down the street. Vincent kept his eyes focused on the ground in front of him while Reno stared blankly ahead. He was focused on the next thing on this list: the doctor’s office. Questions were filled in his head, wondering how he was going to explain the situation. He bought him, he didn’t look well, and wanted him to get checked up. Reno wanted it to be that easy but he knew it would be more complicated than that. To be honest, Reno really had no idea what was wrong with Vincent anyways.
“Hey…” Reno began, breaking the silence between them. Vincent looked up at him, curious as always. They continued to walk as Reno kept on talking. “I want to figure out what exactly is wrong with you. So when you explain it, do it the best you can. First, does it hurt when you go potty?”
Vincent looked down as if he was embarrassed. “Yes…” He murmured.
“Does it hurt anywhere else beside that?”
“Here… a little.” Vincent replied softly, putting his hand by his butt.
“Did it hurt after what Rude did to you… and even when I did it?”
“Yes.”
“Anything else?”
Vincent nodded and continued pointing out different things on his body. His chest, lower back, left arm, stomach, and his head were all pointed it. He mentioned he was more or less in pain after waking or after sex, which Reno knew couldn’t be a good thing.
A few minutes later they arrived at the clinic and the nurse at the counter greeted them and told them to have a seat. Handing Reno a piece of paper and pen, she told him to fill in the necessary things before heading back to her desk.
That’s when Reno’s mind went blank. He was about to write down his name on the paper when he remembered it wasn’t him that needed to be looked at, it was… Hell… he didn’t even know his name! Reno had never asked nor had he even thought of it. Reno looked over at Vincent who was playing with his hair and staring at the floor.
“What’s your name?” Reno asked bluntly.
“My… name?” Vincent questioned, blinking a few times.
“Do you have one?”
Vincent paused for a second, looking for an answer to Reno’s question, before looking up at him again. “Number 0612?”
“No no… The name that they called you.”
“…Pet?”
“No…!” Reno sighed. How the hell doesn’t he know his own name? Technically, when you get a pet you’re supposed to name it, but Reno didn’t think that applied with this too. Humans should be treated like humans, not robots with numbers. Reno took a hold of Vincent’s collar and looked at the inscription on the tag. Of course, it only had Vincent’s number and some other meaningless words on it. Reno sighed again, resting his head in the palm of his hands.
Great… just great. I doubt he knows his birth date and what not.
Before long, another nurse called them in and led them to a room.
“Doctor Jumisa will be here shortly. In the mean time, whoever’s getting the check up to put this garment on.” The nurse exclaimed, giving Reno the blouse and left the two waiting in a check up room.
Again, with the process of taking and putting on clothes. At least, he noticed Vincent seemed to be getting the hang of it. After putting on the blouse and tying it in the back, Reno had Vincent it on the examination chair and unlatched his leash. He felt Vincent’s breath hitch and his arms move up to stop Reno, but he caught them in time.
“Don’t worry. I’m going to be right here while he checks you.” Reno said, throwing the leash onto one of the chairs behind him. “I need to explain the situation to him anyways.”
“What’s… going on Master? What’s he going to do?” Vincent asked, worried and backing away slightly.
“He’s just…” He had no clue what he was exactly going to do. He hadn’t been to the doctor’s in a long time. “We’ll find out when he does it, ‘kay? So don’t freak out on me.”
Vincent calmed a little, but still bore the worried look on this face. He had never been in a situation like this, or in a place like this before. It smelt funny, people were dressed oddly, the whole place made Vincent feel dizzy. He grew light-headed at that moment. Luckily, Reno caught him before he completely fell over.
“Hey are you okay?!” Reno, slightly panicked, was nearly holding Vincent up as he sat on the table, his head rolling from side to side.
“I’m… tired Master.” Vincent murmured.
“How do you feel right now? Do you feel sick?” Hopefully, Reno thought, he knew what sick was.
“Yes…” Vincent said, regaining some composure.
The door to the room opened and the doctor took a step in before taking a look. He paused, startled a bit from the scene he was seeing. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
Boy did Reno feel embarrassed at that moment. Not only was Vincent dressed in something that was easily showing some private stuff, but the way Reno was holding him up was slightly perverted and easily interpreted as something different. “Ah… N-No no!” Reno stuttered backing away from Vincent a little. “He’s just feelin’ a bit ill and light headed that’s all.”
“Well it’s a good thing you’re here then.” The doctor exclaimed, shutting the door behind him and walked over to his desk, placing some papers down. “I’m just a tad confused however, on this situation.”
“Yeah. I need to explain that.”
That’s what Reno did. He mentioned the store he bought Vincent at, told him what also occurred that night, though he didn’t want to, and how Vincent acted everyday.
“Hmmm…” Dr. Jumisa scratched his chin before gesturing to Reno. “Reno right? Could I talk to you outside for a second?” He said before walking towards the door.
“Uh… sure…” Reno followed the doctor out into the hallway. Here it is. The laughter he knew the doctor was holding in.
Dr. Jumisa closed the door and looked at Reno with the look of interest in his face. “This is a very interesting case Mr. Lefay.” He paused for a second before looking down to the ground. “I just didn’t think more of them existed.” He murmured.
“Wait a minute. What? Existed?” Reno questioned.
“I best start from the beginning. You see, my wife and I are unable to have a child together. However, one day we met this man at a private adoption agency offering us a young, 14 year old girl for adoption. Nothing seemed odd or out of place there, so we accepted his offer and bought her to be our daughter.” Dr. Jumisa paused, his cheeks turning a little red. “That’s when we noticed something odd. She had become very attached to me and even tried to sleep with me. She didn’t even speak correctly.”
Reno listened to him in disbelief. Reno didn’t want to believe him, even though Jumisa did look serious.
“We eventually were able to teach her what she was doing was wrong, as well as give her a small education on everyday things.”
“So… You basically… went through the same thing I’m going through now, huh?” Reno exclaimed, crossing his arms. Maybe the doctor would give him a discount for understand what he’s going through.
“That’s correct. From what you told me, this man is most likely from the same man who sold us our daughter.”
“Is she… alright now?” Reno wasn’t sure if he should poke into someone else’s business, but he wanted to know if there was anything he could do for Vincent.
“Yes, she works here now with my wife and I. She’s mostly in the back area of the counter, since she’s still not really comfortable around strangers.” Dr. Jumisa took in a deep breath before letting out a sigh. “Now then, we best get back to that friend of yours. He might be a little scared after being left alone like that.”
Reno chuckled. “Yeah… good idea. Is that alright if I stay next to him while to examine him?”
“Of course. That will be perfectly fine.”
They reentered the room and Dr. Jumisa went over to his desk to get ready, while Reno went over to Vincent, who didn’t seemed to mind being alone for that time.
“You doin’ OK?” Reno asked, running his hand through Vincent’s hair, tangling it in his hand slightly.
“Yes Master.” Vincent muttered, closing his eyes and relaxing into Reno’s hand as he brought it up to caress his cheek. He opened his eyes as he heard shuffling to the left side of him.
The doctor sat next to him and held up a stethoscope. “Now, I want you to breath in deeply and then let it out.” He exclaimed to Vincent, accompanied with hand gestures as well. After Vincent nodded, Jumisa brought the stethoscope under Vincent’s garment and put it against his chest. Vincent’s breath hitched at the sudden coldness but soon began to breathe the way the doctor asked.
~~~~~
It felt like hours that they were there. Actually, it had been nearly 3 hours since they arrived to the clinic for Vincent’s check up. There were just so many things Reno wanted them to check incase of infection or anything else of that sort. Vincent and him now sat in the same examination they started in, waiting for the results from the doctor. After being switched from one room to the next for specific examinations they finally got to rest. Vincent didn’t prove to be much of a fuss as Reno had thought. He thought Vincent would have freaked out or ran away, but he stayed content and interested in what these people were doing.
Finally the door opened and Doctor Jumisa stepped in and took a seat at the desk. “Well, luckily there aren’t any major problems.” He stated with a small smile on his face. “Mostly they’re all infections, which can be treated with antibiotics. He does have some rashes as well, which can easily be healed with applying lotion to the area.”
“As long as there’s nothing life-threatening it’s alright.” Reno blurted out. He didn’t want to sound mean but, he wasn’t the richest guy on the planet.
The doctor laughed. “No nothing like that. Just a blatter infection and a few other infections in that area.” The doctor wrote down a few things on a piece of paper before handing it to Reno. “Here’s a prescription for the drugs for him to take. Just take it to the front desk and they will get them for you. One of the drugs for a infection will make him very drowsy after it is taken, so make sure he doesn’t need to do anything afterwards.”
“Alright, thanks…” Reno scratched the back of his hand and grunted when he took a look at the paper. Damn… no discount? Well, I guess business is business.
The doctor escorted them back into the lobby. On the way, they passed a young woman holding a few files. The doctor stopped and stopped the girl as well. “Reno, this is my daughter, Athia.” He said, putting his arm around her. The girl smiled weakly.
“Hi there.” Reno smiled, slightly waving.
Doctor Jumisa chuckled. “Athia, I’d like you to talk with these two men. Once you’re done, could you take them to the lobby?”
“Yes dad.” Athia replied. She nodded as the doctor walked away. She had a high but low voice and brown curly hair surrounded her face. She smiled when she turned to look at Reno again. “What may I help you with?”
“Well… I learned from your father that you were once a… Pet.”
Athia’s eyed widened. Pet? It was something she hadn’t heard in a long time.
“And… I was wondering if you could help me with my situation.” Reno finished, nodding towards Vincent, who was staring at the floor like usual.
Athia looked around before making a motion with her hand for them to follow. “Come with me.”
She led them to a small room with a couch and a T.V. She motioned them to sit on the couch, while she took a seat on a chair across from them. After setting down the files that she held, she grabbed a photo album and set it in her lap. She paused for a minute before lifting her head to look at Reno and Vincent.
“Yes, there was a time that I responded to that word. Pet… That was four years ago. It’s almost like a curse to me.” She sighed and glanced at Vincent, recognizing the collar. “Is your friend here, one of them?”
“Yeah.” He replied. “What do you remember?”
“Everything. The pain, the torture, the repeated sex.” She handed Reno the album. He opened it to take a look as she continued. “Those pictures are from when my parents first got me. I was pale, sickly, and pretty much brainwashed. I can remember wanting sex everyday, because it’s what they taught us.”
Reno paused from looking at the photographs and looked up. “They? What did you technically referred to them as?”
“We were forced to call them our Masters. If I remember correctly, there were at least six men that run the place. They are the ones that taught all of us what we needed to know about being a Pet. My parents were so confused and I feel so bad about it. But I know that I couldn’t help it at the time. I thought it was right to want it.” She watched as Reno placed the album next to him and quickly reached out to grab his hands which caught him off guard and caught the attention of Vincent as well. “But you need to understand. We aren’t dumb or bad people! We have a conscience but can’t figure out the difference between reality and what’s been burned into our minds!” Tears formed into her eyes as she talked. “Whatever you do, don’t inflict anymore pain onto him.” She took at a look at Vincent, who seemed to share some of the sadness Athia was expressing. “And don’t take him back to them.”
Reno watched her carefully. “They kill the ones that are taken back don’t they?” He asked, his voice low and serious.
Athia nodded. “And they just kidnap if they need more or force two to breed.” She looked away and used her sleeve to wipe a tear away. “Just promise me this: bring justice to those who’ve been through it and the one’s who’ve died because of them. I don’t want anymore people in that situation anymore.”
All Reno could do was smile. “I promise.”
She smiled as well. “Thank you. Let me show you the way out.”
They all stood and Athia opened the door, letting the men leave first. “Hey.” She spoke to Vincent, who stopped and faced her as Reno continued out. “No matter what, do what he says, even if it doesn’t follow the rules that they taught you.” She smiled at him. “I can tell… that this man will not harm you. Do your best.”
Vincent nodded. “I will.”
In the lobby, they said their farewells and she returned to the back rooms. Vincent almost seemed sad to see her go but Reno edged him on. He paid for the prescriptions and then headed out of the clinic with Vincent. Finally it was time to go home, with a little more courage in hand. He would help Vincent, no matter what.
Also thank you for all the wonderful reviews!

Before long, another nurse called them in and led them to a room.
“Doctor Jumisa will be here shortly. In the mean time, whoever’s getting the check up to put this garment on.” The nurse exclaimed, giving Reno the blouse and left the two waiting in a check up room.
Again, with the process of taking and putting on clothes. At least, he noticed Vincent seemed to be getting the hang of it. After putting on the blouse and tying it in the back, Reno had Vincent it on the examination chair and unlatched his leash. He felt Vincent’s breath hitch and his arms move up to stop Reno, but he caught them in time.
“Don’t worry. I’m going to be right here while he checks you.” Reno said, throwing the leash onto one of the chairs behind him. “I need to explain the situation to him anyways.”
“What’s… going on Master? What’s he going to do?” Vincent asked, worried and backing away slightly.
“He’s just…” He had no clue what he was exactly going to do. He hadn’t been to the doctor’s in a long time. “We’ll find out when he does it, ‘kay? So don’t freak out on me.”
Vincent calmed a little, but still bore the worried look on this face. He had never been in a situation like this, or in a place like this before. It smelt funny, people were dressed oddly, the whole place made Vincent feel dizzy. He grew light-headed at that moment. Luckily, Reno caught him before he completely fell over.
“Hey are you okay?!” Reno, slightly panicked, was nearly holding Vincent up as he sat on the table, his head rolling from side to side.
“I’m… tired Master.” Vincent murmured.
“How do you feel right now? Do you feel sick?” Hopefully, Reno thought, he knew what sick was.
“Yes…” Vincent said, regaining some composure.
The door to the room opened and the doctor took a step in before taking a look. He paused, startled a bit from the scene he was seeing. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
Boy did Reno feel embarrassed at that moment. Not only was Vincent dressed in something that was easily showing some private stuff, but the way Reno was holding him up was slightly perverted and easily interpreted as something different. “Ah… N-No no!” Reno stuttered backing away from Vincent a little. “He’s just feelin’ a bit ill and light headed that’s all.”
“Well it’s a good thing you’re here then.” The doctor exclaimed, shutting the door behind him and walked over to his desk, placing some papers down. “I’m just a tad confused however, on this situation.”
“Yeah. I need to explain that.”
That’s what Reno did. He mentioned the store he bought Vincent at, told him what also occurred that night, though he didn’t want to, and how Vincent acted everyday.
“Hmmm…” Dr. Jumisa scratched his chin before gesturing to Reno. “Reno right? Could I talk to you outside for a second?” He said before walking towards the door.
“Uh… sure…” Reno followed the doctor out into the hallway. Here it is. The laughter he knew the doctor was holding in.
Dr. Jumisa closed the door and looked at Reno with the look of interest in his face. “This is a very interesting case Mr. Lefay.” He paused for a second before looking down to the ground. “I just didn’t think more of them existed.” He murmured.
“Wait a minute. What? Existed?” Reno questioned.
“I best start from the beginning. You see, my wife and I are unable to have a child together. However, one day we met this man at a private adoption agency offering us a young, 14 year old girl for adoption. Nothing seemed odd or out of place there, so we accepted his offer and bought her to be our daughter.” Dr. Jumisa paused, his cheeks turning a little red. “That’s when we noticed something odd. She had become very attached to me and even tried to sleep with me. She didn’t even speak correctly.”
Reno listened to him in disbelief. Reno didn’t want to believe him, even though Jumisa did look serious.
“We eventually were able to teach her what she was doing was wrong, as well as give her a small education on everyday things.”
“So… You basically… went through the same thing I’m going through now, huh?” Reno exclaimed, crossing his arms. Maybe the doctor would give him a discount for understand what he’s going through.
“That’s correct. From what you told me, this man is most likely from the same man who sold us our daughter.”
“Is she… alright now?” Reno wasn’t sure if he should poke into someone else’s business, but he wanted to know if there was anything he could do for Vincent.
“Yes, she works here now with my wife and I. She’s mostly in the back area of the counter, since she’s still not really comfortable around strangers.” Dr. Jumisa took in a deep breath before letting out a sigh. “Now then, we best get back to that friend of yours. He might be a little scared after being left alone like that.”
Reno chuckled. “Yeah… good idea. Is that alright if I stay next to him while to examine him?”
“Of course. That will be perfectly fine.”
They reentered the room and Dr. Jumisa went over to his desk to get ready, while Reno went over to Vincent, who didn’t seemed to mind being alone for that time.
“You doin’ OK?” Reno asked, running his hand through Vincent’s hair, tangling it in his hand slightly.
“Yes Master.” Vincent muttered, closing his eyes and relaxing into Reno’s hand as he brought it up to caress his cheek. He opened his eyes as he heard shuffling to the left side of him.
The doctor sat next to him and held up a stethoscope. “Now, I want you to breath in deeply and then let it out.” He exclaimed to Vincent, accompanied with hand gestures as well. After Vincent nodded, Jumisa brought the stethoscope under Vincent’s garment and put it against his chest. Vincent’s breath hitched at the sudden coldness but soon began to breathe the way the doctor asked.
~~~~~
It felt like hours that they were there. Actually, it had been nearly 3 hours since they arrived to the clinic for Vincent’s check up. There were just so many things Reno wanted them to check incase of infection or anything else of that sort. Vincent and him now sat in the same examination they started in, waiting for the results from the doctor. After being switched from one room to the next for specific examinations they finally got to rest. Vincent didn’t prove to be much of a fuss as Reno had thought. He thought Vincent would have freaked out or ran away, but he stayed content and interested in what these people were doing.
Finally the door opened and Doctor Jumisa stepped in and took a seat at the desk. “Well, luckily there aren’t any major problems.” He stated with a small smile on his face. “Mostly they’re all infections, which can be treated with antibiotics. He does have some rashes as well, which can easily be healed with applying lotion to the area.”
“As long as there’s nothing life-threatening it’s alright.” Reno blurted out. He didn’t want to sound mean but, he wasn’t the richest guy on the planet.
The doctor laughed. “No nothing like that. Just a blatter infection and a few other infections in that area.” The doctor wrote down a few things on a piece of paper before handing it to Reno. “Here’s a prescription for the drugs for him to take. Just take it to the front desk and they will get them for you. One of the drugs for a infection will make him very drowsy after it is taken, so make sure he doesn’t need to do anything afterwards.”
“Alright, thanks…” Reno scratched the back of his hand and grunted when he took a look at the paper. Damn… no discount? Well, I guess business is business.
The doctor escorted them back into the lobby. On the way, they passed a young woman holding a few files. The doctor stopped and stopped the girl as well. “Reno, this is my daughter, Athia.” He said, putting his arm around her. The girl smiled weakly.
“Hi there.” Reno smiled, slightly waving.
Doctor Jumisa chuckled. “Athia, I’d like you to talk with these two men. Once you’re done, could you take them to the lobby?”
“Yes dad.” Athia replied. She nodded as the doctor walked away. She had a high but low voice and brown curly hair surrounded her face. She smiled when she turned to look at Reno again. “What may I help you with?”
“Well… I learned from your father that you were once a… Pet.”
Athia’s eyed widened. Pet? It was something she hadn’t heard in a long time.
“And… I was wondering if you could help me with my situation.” Reno finished, nodding towards Vincent, who was staring at the floor like usual.
Athia looked around before making a motion with her hand for them to follow. “Come with me.”
She led them to a small room with a couch and a T.V. She motioned them to sit on the couch, while she took a seat on a chair across from them. After setting down the files that she held, she grabbed a photo album and set it in her lap. She paused for a minute before lifting her head to look at Reno and Vincent.
“Yes, there was a time that I responded to that word. Pet… That was four years ago. It’s almost like a curse to me.” She sighed and glanced at Vincent, recognizing the collar. “Is your friend here, one of them?”
“Yeah.” He replied. “What do you remember?”
“Everything. The pain, the torture, the repeated sex.” She handed Reno the album. He opened it to take a look as she continued. “Those pictures are from when my parents first got me. I was pale, sickly, and pretty much brainwashed. I can remember wanting sex everyday, because it’s what they taught us.”
Reno paused from looking at the photographs and looked up. “They? What did you technically referred to them as?”
“We were forced to call them our Masters. If I remember correctly, there were at least six men that run the place. They are the ones that taught all of us what we needed to know about being a Pet. My parents were so confused and I feel so bad about it. But I know that I couldn’t help it at the time. I thought it was right to want it.” She watched as Reno placed the album next to him and quickly reached out to grab his hands which caught him off guard and caught the attention of Vincent as well. “But you need to understand. We aren’t dumb or bad people! We have a conscience but can’t figure out the difference between reality and what’s been burned into our minds!” Tears formed into her eyes as she talked. “Whatever you do, don’t inflict anymore pain onto him.” She took at a look at Vincent, who seemed to share some of the sadness Athia was expressing. “And don’t take him back to them.”
Reno watched her carefully. “They kill the ones that are taken back don’t they?” He asked, his voice low and serious.
Athia nodded. “And they just kidnap if they need more or force two to breed.” She looked away and used her sleeve to wipe a tear away. “Just promise me this: bring justice to those who’ve been through it and the one’s who’ve died because of them. I don’t want anymore people in that situation anymore.”
All Reno could do was smile. “I promise.”
She smiled as well. “Thank you. Let me show you the way out.”
They all stood and Athia opened the door, letting the men leave first. “Hey.” She spoke to Vincent, who stopped and faced her as Reno continued out. “No matter what, do what he says, even if it doesn’t follow the rules that they taught you.” She smiled at him. “I can tell… that this man will not harm you. Do your best.”
Vincent nodded. “I will.”
In the lobby, they said their farewells and she returned to the back rooms. Vincent almost seemed sad to see her go but Reno edged him on. He paid for the prescriptions and then headed out of the clinic with Vincent. Finally it was time to go home, with a little more courage in hand. He would help Vincent, no matter what.
