Poisoned Isolation
Part Five
Vincent was abruptly brought back to the present by Cloud’s voice.
“I’m sorry Cloud could you repeat that.” The swordsman sighed, slowing Fenrir to a stop and jumping off the bike. Concerned blue mako eyes starred at him intently.
“Vincent, what is going on with you?” The gunman was now standing too facing Cloud.
“It is not any of your concern.” Vincent turned away meaning the conversation was over but Cloud didn’t take it that way by snorting loudly.
“It is all of my concern Vincent, cause if you head is not in this then you are only a liability.” It was only seconds when Cloud felt the cool steel of Death Penalty pressing into his temple.
“I was wrong to ask you to come.”
“Yes you were.” he said as he holstered the weapon. Cloud leaned back on the bike crossing his arm watching the gunman cautiously. Noticing Vincent continually stare back at were they came he made a conclusion.
“It’s because of Cid isn’t it? I don’t understand. Tifa and Yuffie are there with him and he’s been doing a lot better.” Vincent turned emotion full crimson eyes to Cloud taking the blonde aback.
“If you only knew the danger I left him in. As long as that evil woman is there he will be in danger.” Cloud furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
“Who? What? I don’t understand Vincent.”
“Shera is trying to kill Cid. The reason he is doing better is because I have taken every precaution I could to keep them from coming into contact.” He turned away shaking his head.
“I’m sorry Vincent. I should have never asked you to come. If you had told me sooner I would have taken some one else.” Vincent turned back.
“It matters not the deed is done and I am here. Reeve is waiting. Tifa and Yuffie can surly handle Shera.” Cloud nodded and jumped back onto the bike but before he could start it Vincent’s cell phone started to ring. Flipping it open and placing over his ear he answered.
“Yuffie.” There was a long pause.
“Yuffie?” he said again worriedly.
“It’s Tifa…” Came a hoarse voice.
“Tifa?”
“Come…back… now. I don’t … where is…Cid. She did…it. Vincent… C…i…d…”
“TIFA!”
“…” Vincent hurled himself onto Fenrir.
“We have to go back now something bad has happened. The tires squealed as Cloud took off.
Cid had fallen asleep after eating. Tifa and Yuffie had taken to playing a game of cards. Both women looked up at the noise of Shera walking into the room her hands gloved from cleaning. She smiled sweetly at them.
“Would either of you like something to drink?”
“Oh. No thank you.” Tifa smile up at up from her hand.
“But thanks for asking.” Yuffie added as Shera nodded leaving them. After several games of cards later, Tifa heard Shera calling to her.
“I’ll go see what she wants.” Yuffie laid back on the couch. Fifteen minutes later Cid began to stir. Yuffie stood and walked beside him.
“Hey how are you feeling?” He wipe his bleary eyes so he could see.
“As well as can be expected. Where is Tifa?”
“Oh Shera called her a little while ago.”
“How long is a little while?” Yuffie tilted her head to one side.
“About fifteen to twenty minutes.” Cid shivered.
“Maybe you should go check on her.”
“I’m not leaving you alone.”
“Yuffie it will be alright. You know that Shera is in there. She could not get into my room without you knowing.” The ninja nodded.
“True. I’ll go check on her.” Yuffie patted Cid’s shoulder before leaving. The pilot yawned and closed his eyes.
Cid was jerked out of his sleep suddenly. Shera was standing over him a malicious smile on her face.
“Thought they could protect you? They went down so easily Cid. So unlike you. All I had to do is touch the door knob with my gloved hands. I don’t understand why I can’t seem to get rid of you.” She lunged for the pilot’s throat gloves still on her hands.
“It absorbs through the skin this one. All I had to do was call one and the other would follow. The crazy woman kicked Cid pulling him from the bed. Cid pulled himself up on the bedside table and opened the door but Shera slammed it shut breaking two of his fingers.
“Oh I know what that damned gunman left you. That stupid brat was far too loud telling you about it. Shera grabbed him by the hair that after several months of solitude had grown to shoulder lengthand pulled hin violently from the room. Cid was already beginning to feel the dizzying effect of the newly introduced poison. In the living room he got a glimpse of Tifa and Yuffie.
“Don’t worry they will not die from such a small dose.” Cid grabbed his injured ribs as Shera kicked him out the door, falling flat of his face.
“Get up and walk to your death. Stop embarrassing yourself.” She took a hold of his hair again. The pilot tried to jerked away but not finding the strength and only managing to rip out a chunk of hair.
“Pathetic Cid. Truly pathetic. I’ll just drag you.” Again she grabbed him by the hair and pulled him all the way to a shed.
“Never thought it would end this way did you Cid Highwind. Well anyway this is it. I will seal you fate in the godforsaken shed. Opening the door she kicked the aviator through them. He gathered what little strength he had left and hurled his body weight into a punch that landed across her temple. She fell hard to the floor and Cid could only watch in horror as she raised her head slowly. Standing up she stomped his injured ribs for revenge.
“Nice try but not good enough.” she turned away. Cid coughed hard his ribs throbbing. He couldn’t keep hid breathe. When she turned back Shera was holding a gas can. Fear overtook Cid when he realized her intent. Shera open the can and began to spill its contents on the floor. After she was satisfied made her way back over the blonde splashing gas all over his legs.
“I can’t wait to hear your screams. I will cherish the sound forever.” Turning away she laughed as she closed the door and locked it.
Cid tired to stand but didn’t have the strength and he was beginning to feel sick. Shera had intentionally wore the gloves to poison them and himself just so he wouldn’t be able to escape. His only hope that Vincent was not the one who finds his charred body. It was only moments before Shera hand came through a window holding a lit match. Cid cringed as she dropped the match letting it fall to the ground. Cid screamed as flames engulfed him.
