Okay, I know that Zack and Cloud were captured for four years
but I changed it to that they are only gone for a month when Zack comes out of
the mako coma.
Chapter 5: A Vow of Revenge
Zack groaned
to himself as he opened his eyes only to close them when the light blinded him.
Shaking his head, he couldn’t help but feel that he was underwater. Opening his
eyes once more, he saw that he was in a vial of green liquid…like the one
Jenova was in.
Slowly, his
memories came back to him and he pieced together what had happened. Sephiroth
had gone mad, claiming that he was the one to rule the world…Cloud fighting and
finishing him off…hands picking up him…Hojo saying that he was a disgrace
before moving over to Cloud’s body with an insane grin on his face saying that
Cloud would make a fabulous subject.
Groaning,
Zack felt that he had a breather in his mouth to keep him breathing while he
was being held in water. Pain was shooting through his system. Looking down, he
could see several tubes connected to his body and different colours of liquid
were being pumped into his body.
Shaking his
head, Zack lifted his head once more and looked around outside the tube he was
currently trapped in. He could see he was in a lab and it was empty. There were
numerous of clipboards and papers littered around on the floors and tables.
There were different vials all around the tank that he was in; each one was
connected to the tubes that were hooked up into him.
He could see
that he was alone in the lab…that Cloud wasn’t in the room with him and it made
him worried about what Hojo was doing to Cloud. He needed to get them out as
soon as possible; he didn’t like the look on Hojo’s face when he said that
Cloud would be a fabulous subject.
Zack could
hear the door opening and he closed his eyes, he didn’t want anyone to know
that he was awake, not yet, not while he didn’t have a plan on how to get him
and Cloud out of this.
Three
scientists stepped into the room, each of them had a clipboard in their hands
as they walked over to Zack before checking the machines to make sure that he
was cooperating well.
“You know
that Hojo is worried about Project Z?” one scientist asked as he looked toward
his peers.
“How do you
mean?” one asked.
“He’s
fighting the Jenova and Mako cells. Hojo doesn’t like it,” the first explained,
causing the other three to frown before the third one shook his head.
“It’s a
tragedy that Project C didn’t work out,” the third scientists said to the
others. “Hojo was hoping he would make a fabulous experiment.”
“Which one
was Project C?” first one asked, his brows furrowing as he fought to remember.
“We have so many projects; it’s hard to keep track of everyone.”
“Cloud
Strife, the spiky blonde haired boy. He was brought in with Project Z,” the
second scientist reminded.
Zack felt
his heart stop before it lurched painfully in his chest. Cloud was…dead? They
killed him?
“How did he
die?” the first one scientist asked.
“From Mako
Overdose, Hojo thought because he was young that his body would heal quickly. H
upped the dose far too much that the body couldn’t handle it,” the third
scientist explained. “They have him in the morgue – they are planning on
dumping the body.”
“Can’t we
just harvest the organs?” the second scientist asked as they walked away.
“No – they
are too damaged and poisoned with Mako and Jenova cells,” the first scientist
explained.
Zack waited
till he heard the door click into place before he opened his eyes to reveal
dark blue eyes filled with anger before slammed out a fist, connecting with the
glass. He did it two times before there was a crack, the glass weakening under
the pressure before he threw his fist out once more and it shattered the glass,
sending it flying as the liquid poured out.
Zack, no
longer suspended by the water, fell down to the bottom of the tube, groaning as
the needles pulled at his skin. He gripped the needles and pulled them out of
his body before he, gingerly, climbed out of the tube and made his way over to
the cold metal table.
He grabbed
the black trousers and pulled them on before grabbing the boots and the white
lab coat before he stumbled over to the door. He leaned against the wall and
looked through the semi clear glass door to make sure that there was no else
around before he pushed the door open and stepped out into the hallway, looking
around.
Everything
looked different now, he could tell that his eye sight was sharper than before,
his hearing was more in tune, he could hear even the lightest sound and his
sense of smell was amazing, he could smell the faint traces of perfume that a
woman had worn as she walked in the hallway.
Shaking his
head to get rid of the senses, he strode determinedly down the hallway till he
reached a plain white door. Turning the handle, he pushed the door opened and
slipped through it, closing the door behind him as he made his way down the
stairs till he reached the bottom and headed over the lone single door.
Pushing it
opened, he peered through the gap and when his senses told him he was alone,
and he pushed the door open all the way and walked through it before looking up
and down the bare hallway before he chose a path. Heading to the right, he kept
walking till he reached a room filled with glass windows and cold autopsy
tables. He had found where he was going.
He found the
morgue and pushed his way into the cold room only to stop when he saw a sheet
covered body lying on one of the tables. Swallowing painfully, he made his way
over to the table, lifted a hand and left it in the air for a moment before he
closed his eyes and pulled down the sheet.
He opened
his eyes to meet the pale face of Cloud Strife. His hair was still spiky and
his lips were tinged with blue.
“Cloud…”
Zack reached out a shaky hand and it landed on Cloud’s cold neck. Zack closed
his eyes painfully when he felt no pulse before hanging his head. “I’m so sorry
Cloud, I should have gotten us out quicker.” He brought his head up once more;
his once warm blue eyes were now cold as ice. “But they’ll pay, don’t worry,
they will pay for everything they have done to us.”
He pulled
the sheet over Cloud’s head once more. “I’ll look after Tifa, I promise.” He
straightened up and made his way out of the room. He would take the body with
him but he was feeling too weak and knew that it would look suspicious if he
was to push a dead body out of the building.
Zack
stumbled over to the door and peered through the window to make sure that no
one was coming. Seeing that the course was clear, he made his way into the
hallway and hurried over to the stairs once more, taking it all the way down to
the bottom. It would lead him to the tunnels and from there he could make his
way out of the hell he was currently trapped in.
Tifa hummed
to herself from where she was placing the photo frames on the shelves. Looking
around, she took in the sight of her new home. Her hometown had been completely
reduced to rubble and burned timbers. She and Zangan had spent most the month
sorting out the bodies, identifying them and burying them in their proper
places.
Tifa’s hand
lingered on the spot in between her breasts, the same spot that Sephiroth’s
blade had sliced the skin. Closing and turning her head, she pulled her hand
away from the shirt covered scar and made her way into the bedroom. She still
had some things to unpack before heading over to Shin-Ra building to see if
they knew where Cloud was…she needed to see him.
Upon
reaching the bedroom, she took in the sight. It was a mess, the king sized bed
was sitting in the middle of the room with the headboard pressed against the
wall. There was a long mirror standing in the corner off to the right of the
bed. There was a two bed side tables with lamps on each side of the bed and a
lone shelf on the wall above her bed that held her stereo and photos. A
wardrobe was next to the mirror and the dresser was next to the wardrobe. At
the window, at the end of the bed, there was a long box with a cushioned top so
she could sit there at night and look up at the stars if she wanted to.
Unpacked
boxes were on the floors and bed, waiting for her to unpack them. Sighing as
she swept her black hair up into a ponytail before kneeling down to check the
boxes so she was able to put them away in the right places but deep inside of
her…she couldn’t help the dread that was now coiling in her stomach…something has
gone wrong.
Zack
stumbled into the church, holding his side. He looked up when he heard a gasp
and met familiar worried green eyes. He had travelled a long way. He could
hardly believe that he had been in the basement of Shin-Ra mansion the entire
time and it made him realise that he couldn’t trust anyone from Shin-Ra…that
all of his dreams of honour and trust had now been tarnished by men with greed
for power…he had been tarnished for the same thing.
“Aerith…”
Zack leaned against one of the pillars.
Aerith had
been tending to her flowers; she had been worried about Zack since she had the
dream when she heard a noise from behind her. Spinning around as she stood up,
she found herself staring at someone who she hadn’t been in contact for a month
for and saw that he had a good reason for doing so.
His hair was
a mess, his mako tinted lavender eyes were even bluer with a hint of green,
indicating he had been near Jenova’s cells and there were injections sites all
over his body that she could see.
“Zack?”
Aerith ran over to Zack and wrapped her arms around him just as he fell to his
knees, bringing Aerith down with him. “What happened?”
“Cloud…they
killed him,” Zack whispered. Aerith pulled away and cupped his cheeks, tilting
his head so she was looking in his eyes.
“What?”
Aerith shook her head, confused.
“Shin-Ra
captured us, Hojo put Cloud and I in Mako tubes – Cloud died from overdosed –
they were experimenting on us,” Zack’s voice was jerky as he tried to overcome
the shock.
“No…” Aerith
shook her head; she couldn’t believe that the company would do that.
“Jenova’s
cells…they injected us with Mako and Jenova’s cells,” Zack whispered only for
his back to arch in pain as he gritted his teeth before he slumped forward.
Aerith looked behind Zack in time to see Tseng standing there with a taser gun
in his hand and the taser part had been attached to Zack’s back.
Tseng
motioned two men, one was bald and the other one had red hair tied in a
ponytail, to move over to Zack only to step back when fire flared in Aerith’s
eyes and a bright blue shield erected itself around Aerith and her boyfriend.
“Aerith…”
Tseng started but quieted down when he saw the anger in Aerith’s eyes.
“You will
not take him back to Hojo because if you do, I will do what Jenova had planned
to do and make sure that all of you are damned to hell for destroying two
innocent people in this world!” Aerith promised them. “It’s bad enough that
Hojo wants me because I’m a Cetra, I will not allow any of you take Zack away
just because he managed to escape from a hell what you people call a lab!”
“Aerith,
we’re not here to take him away,” Tseng told her. That was a lie, obviously but
there was nothing else they could do. Aerith was powerful in her own right,
even though she didn’t use her powers other than healing the plants; they knew
she could destroy the world if they would push her.
Reno, the
red haired, and Rude, the bald, turned to look at Tseng with emotionless
expressions before they looked at Aerith, understanding where their leader was
going. If they wanted to leave the place alive, they would have to leave Zack
alone and hope their boss would do the same.
“Then
leave,” Aerith replied in a cold tone. “And take your dogs with you.” Tseng
motioned for Reno and Rude to leave, which they did and watched as Aerith
brought the barrier down. Aerith laid Zack down with a soft caress to his
cheeks before she stood up and strode over to Tseng, anger still bubbling in
her veins.
“Aerith…”
Tseng started but Aerith got there first.
“Damn you!”
Aerith shoved Tseng away. “What the hell have you done?!”
“What was
necessary,” Tseng simply said.
“So, Project
Z got away,” Hojo muttered as he paced back and forth in the lab, his brown
eyes straying toward the broken tube every now and then. “I guess it isn’t that
much of a shame…he was a disappointment after all.”
“Sir,
Project C is now underway!” a scientist shouted and Hojo smiled.
“Thank you,”
he ticked something off his clipboard and walked over to the other large tube
with green liquid.
Inside of it
was a young man of sixteen with blonde spiky hair that was tainted green by the
liquid. Hojo smiled brightly as he placed a hand on the tube.
“It won’t be
long till you are completed…till you will become even more powerful than you
would ever imagine,” he chuckled, “welcome to our family…Cloud Strife.”
TBC
For Aerith using her powers, as we know that Aerith is a
Cetra, an Ancient and they obviously have powers, I always thought Aerith was a
protective type who would do everything in her powers to make sure her
boyfriend/friends were safe – proven as she sacrificed herself to help Cloud
and the others bring down Sephiroth so I was showing this by having her do
everything she can to protect Zack for not listening to her dreams. I hope this
didn’t bother anyone.
