I'd weighed all the possibilities, all the problems that might come with them, and realized that whatever he was, Sephiroth was not a voyeur. If he'd been, I would not be alone in a room that was more than comfortable but far too quiet. "Damn it, I almost wish he was." But the adjoining door locked on this side, so I was in no danger of Vivi stumbling on us…if and when that man came back.
Rising to my knees on the bed, I leaned forward to look; the lock was engaged. And I sat here like some beautiful but confused stranger in an inn's upper room——wishing I could think of some way to get my stress out while solving the problem of my journey home.
Seeing them, thinking of them, had made me sure of one thing: I had to get back to Gaia. Even if I came half-dead and rotting out of the Iifa tree, I'd get back. And Sephiroth would have some ideas if nothing else…he looked like he'd been worried about something.
"Poor man, if only he'd come to me. I'd unwind that knotted brain of his…." Well, that and find out exactly how much those leather trousers hid. I had no doubt Sephiroth's presence was larger than Cloud's, though maybe the blond was thicker at best. I laid my odds on a fearsome beast in the General's uniform.
"Oh, here I am, thinking about taking a stranger to bed. Someone I don't even know," I chastised myself. "It's easier to think and wish than it is to say, 'Sephiroth, please fuck me senseless. I need your cock.'"
"Not so hard," a calm voice by the door assured. That heavy, powerful musk flooded my brain.
"Sephiroth——"
Long leathered hands seized me to my feet——crushing me to that thick chest, to where the General hadn't only heard me, but thought of this for longer than I'd realized. "Don't say a word…you don't need to." Those damnably large fingers traced down my back (What a mess my clothes are, I lamented, there are clasps everywhere and Sephiroth couldn't possibly)
Oh, Chaos…he is. Dear Bahamut, he's halfway down my thong…. My arms slid around that thick neck to hold me steady, even as the gloves came off. He pulled me upward to cling to him, riding his thigh as he backed me to the wall——mashing me into not wall but glass windows, skirt sliding down my ass…. "Oh yes," I moaned. "Don't stop——"
"You have so many buckles." A charming laugh wound through my hair as that gorgeous man toyed with my codpiece. "Almost rather open the front ones and say fuck all to the rest…."
"I'll start with these." I slid my hands into that tight jacket, stroking a smooth chest that would soon be mashed into mine. "…Sweat? Oh, Sephy, I'm going to work you just as hard as you do me…. Don't doubt it." Belts strained across muscle. Clasps fell away. And now the jacket gave backward——one hand moved to dislodge a sleeve, then the other, leaving Sephiroth shirtless before me. He hadn't even worn defensive armor like Cloud did…or a truss.
"Gorgeous thing." I couldn't resist——I keened to that skin, kissing as much of it as our positions allowed. Leaning so far forward left his hands cupping my ass, squeezing…we had to be giving the city one hell of a show.
He pulled me away from the window, sliding me into his arms…it was a short trip to the bed. "You dressed," he murmured. "Were you going out to find something? Information?"
"I really didn't know whether you were still here. I would've left to find you."
"Dangerous." Sephiroth's mouth skimmed my ear. "Very, very dangerous. Cloud could've told you you're better off here. Don't leave——You couldn't handle a lot of the problems in Midgar. Rufus is gunning through the city, looking for you…. I think he's hoping to keep you in his office as a trophy. That or Hojo wants a piece of you before you're stuffed and mounted."
I shook my head. "The President…. Ugh. I don't care what he is, I'd fry his face off with Ultima before I'd let that vainglorious weasel touch me."
"Assassination would get you killed. Again——," Sephiroth ground me into the bed, "stay here. I'll give you several reasons to stay here, whenever you need them…after a talk with Cloud, I don't care what you could be. I care what you are——I doubt any clone would think so hard over what it'd lost. Vivi couldn't be cloned; there is no way. I'm fairly sure of that. And if you were false, he'd know it…He's clinging all the harder to you. In short…." He shook his head. "I don't actually give a damn. Whether you or I are copies, I'm going to give you what I'm told you've wanted for some time."
Sheepishly I nodded——I must've seemed like such a harlot. "The moment I smelled you. Everything about you…Mmh——" His lips sweetly cut mine off mid-sentence.
"You're a man. I could've told you your hormones would be killing you. But…." He claimed my mouth again, silky tongue plying my lips open. "You've got to deal with whatever the hell Genomes go through too. You're not human. You can't be faulted for estrus."
"Comparing me to a rutting animal." I lightly shoved him. "Fine, then. Do you want me to be an animal? I'll scratch you to death while you're on top of me…."
"Wasn't thinking that at all…." He smirked. "I was excusing your rampant sexuality because, hell, you were probably half ready to get yourself off. I admit if I'd been in that room and heard your moaning, I would've. Now do me a favor and help me with this…."
"Help you with…. Oh." My clothes. Carefully I lifted the vest, showed him where the belt sat across my sternum. "Very simple."
"Good," he husked, shoving me into the pillows.
I hovered between Heaven and Hell in his wanton embrace. His mouth rose and fell on my neck, beautiful sharp stings heating my skin——fingers unbuckling the belt, sliding me out of my vest beneath him. "God, you're gorgeous…." Sephiroth's tongue tasted my collarbone, hair dusting my face with smooth white. "Make me stop touching you. If I don't, I'm never going to let you leave——"
"Ah——," I ground upward to his leather-caged crotch, "you couldn't pay me enough to make me do that anyway…. If I go home, there's nothing for me——even if the people I love forgave me, the rest of the world wouldn't. I'd have a very short life, or I'd never stop running…Here, not a soul even knows me but Vivi. All they've seen is a history chapter. The real Kuja is stuck in here——" I tapped my temples. "Not some ridiculous book. And most of the city has to be playing the skeptic; you probably didn't think I was real either."
"Guilty as charged. I was trying to learn whether you were. You see…when I reached my Safer state…. I killed JENOVA, yes. And everyone I thought involved——I ended my life by throwing myself headlong into the Lifestream. But I didn't die…." He shook his head. "I'm convinced the bottom of the Iifa tree was connected to the Lifestream somehow…and like me, you fell through. This is only different because I went back to an earlier point. As far as I can tell, it's still the base reality……."
He trailed off and began to mutter. "…Still the base reality. I'm still in the Planet's main chronology. And you came forward through it. Or backward. I haven't even the slightest, because if people can go through——and even one could come back——you could be from the future. That whole fucking book could be a lie wrought by someone who'd been to the future and returned, someone who used the Lifestream to their advantage. And I think…."
"You think what?" I didn't like the idea of what he was suggesting.
"Kuja," His eyes lamped brighter than I'd ever seen, "I think that 'someone' might be Garland."
What a major turn-off! He and I now stood in the panic room that had once been his bedroom, trying to determine for ourselves whether the History of Planet was actually real. Cloud had taken emergency equipment and Vivi to Seventh Heaven, somewhere we would join them soon. He'd informed me it was closer to the Lifestream and further away from Shinra, which could only help us now.
"Kuja, we can solve our own…issues…when we get down there. After letting myself come that close, I've come to the conclusion I need to. But you and I need to get out of Shin-Ra Corp and down under the Plate first; it's martial law there, but you're actually safer. I can't believe I didn't think about that one. But do me a large favor and tell me something: do you want to live? Most of all, do you want to live?"
"Yes."
"Then if you see Garland, you have to know you can't kill him. If you kill Garland, not only Vivi will cease to exist. So will you. You'll complete the paradox by erasing yourself. You killed him in your time, yes?"
"Wherever it is, yes. He died at my hands."
"If he comes back," Sephiroth shook a leathered finger in my face, "do nothing. We will get the hell away from him and somehow to your time. We'll take Cloud and Vivi and fuck completely out of this stage of Planet's lifespan. Gaia as it is may be healthier——and if Garland finds us there, we'll waste him to nothing."
"Much better plan," I agreed——but gaped. He'd thrown what looked like a set of Cloud's clothes onto the bed. "What are these for?"
"Put them on. Shinra knows what you look like…Cloud disguised Vivi as a cadet. I think he shaved Vivi's hair off…and I hate to suggest it, but you'll probably have to lose yours too. We've got to keep you from being detected by Shinra or Garland if we can manage; I know Hojo will turn you in. His price will be the privilege of throwing you into a Mako capsule and letting you drown."
"Garland would enjoy that." I frowned——the General was right. Hair and clothes had to come off. So what bare preparations I could make, I did; the only thing I kept was my codpiece. "This will hide my tail," I murmured. "Always did. I tucked it between my legs, fastened it in…Probably the reason I never flinched from groin kicks. I didn't actually feel them."
"Your dick was numb while you traveled. Must've left you a horny, giggling fruit who used violence as a sexual release." He stepped to my side, taking my hair in his fist. "I must admit it fascinates me."
"You fascinate me." I chewed at one ragged fingernail until he reached for my hand.
"Another thing, we have to get rid of your refined look. I don't think your markings come off, but we can use a smudgepot to dirty your face. I wish there was some other way…. Sit down."
I did as told. This was madness, yes, but it was also a necessary one. And Sephiroth closed the distance between us, my hand still held in his. With a nail file he buffed down what'd been perfect lacquer, watching me with less a moody look and more the kind I had for Vivi now and then. Not as a parent, but from those times I'd caught up with my little one in Zidane's company, determining for myself whether I could reach through our distance and help him.
I'd had to do so with Black Waltz III's arrival. Those mages had obeyed an intrinsic command from their master, protected Vivi——And he hadn't known why. He'd screamed as they fell from the ship…Wailed as he rushed to what could've been his death, blasting III with insane levels of Tranced magic. He'd used power I'd tried to teach him…the kind I'd thought had ended fruitlessly. He'd surpassed my expectations, all because of his emotional state.
The General might be wondering whether he had to work me into such a fugue or keep me out of it. I doubted the emotions I'd feel would be anything high——They'd likely be more similar to Trance in the control. I could end up like Sephiroth, but with the power on an opposite bend…the kind we'd need to get home.
I wondered about that Safer transformation of his.
"Looks like those are doable now. Glove up." He set my hand down; I hadn't noticed how much he'd done while I was thinking. All that was needed now was my distinctive markings to disappear…and my hair. He caressed it gently, too gently——as though he were mourning how pretty I was for the hideous SOLDIER I would soon have to become.
I drew my hand upward along his cheek. "You have my permission. Hair and all…even feathers. But save those; I may need them later. Mage's reagents, you understand…."
"I'm saving all of it I can manage to." He tied my hair into a ponytail and smoothed what little of it couldn't be to the rest…with something slick that smelled pungent. "Cloud left it here. It'll come in handy just long enough to take you bald. New recruits don't have hair…." But that wasn't such new information; the Knights of Pluto hadn't had any either. Helmets tended to dislike a nice coiffure, and the reaction was mutual.
"I promise you'll be safe with me. If I leave, though…make sure you follow."
I nodded; it wouldn't do to dispute this, even though I hadn't the clue what he meant. Did he sleepwalk? Was he a mindless sort of roamer at times?
…Or was he afraid he'd lose me? That thought was both tragic and sweet.
"You couldn't keep me away from you, Sephiroth. I have no idea where I am, I'm certainly not safe in government hands, and if you know as much about me as I suspect you do, being with you is the only way I'll ever see Gaia again. I hope I'm actually from the future…because if I am, you'll survive long enough to get us home. If this really is a past-to-future trip, though, going to my reality could erase you at any point. Anything you did could make you disappear from my arms…." And I caught myself before I could say further…but not soon enough.
"We'll address it later." He'd heard the implication behind my words. "When things are…better."
