Chapter 59: What Cloud Found
The two individuals continued to make eye contact. There was now no question that Cloud's quest as at an end. He had found what he had been looking for.
The real question was: Who was he looking at? Was this Aerith? Or was this a clone? Cloud realized that there was only one way to find out for sure. If he was able to evoke her memories, she was most definitely the real Aerith. If, however, he could not accomplish that, she would indeed be a meat by-product of devious endeavors.
Of course, staring at her all day would most certainly creep her out, let alone fail to jog her memory. He had to break the silence, as she had asked him who he was.
"I'm Cloud," he said.
"It's nice to meet you," she replied with a smile.
"Milly, right?" Cloud asked.
"Milly" nodded her head. "What can I do for you?"
"I'm looking for someone," Cloud replied honestly, deciding to waste no time.
"Oh," she said in surprise. "I'd love to help, but I really haven't seen anyone lately."
Cloud realized that he could not simply bring back her memory with verbal prompts alone; he needed some visuals.
"See," he began as he pulled out his cell phone, "here's the thing." He then presented the selfie he had shown Bill. "This is her."
"Milly" jumped in shock. "Wow!" she said. "She looks just like me. She could be my twin sister!"
Cloud sighed. He had been hoping that selfie would be all it would take. This would prove a lot more difficult than he had expected. Perhaps a few more questions might produce a lead.
"Listen, Milly," he continued. "It need to ask you something."
"Go ahead," she replied. "Ask away."
"How long have you been here?"
"Milly" simply gave him a confused look.
Cloud understood; she might have a weaker sense of time with no memory.
"Let me rephrase that," he requested. "Before you were feeding the horses, what were you doing?"
"I...can't remember," she said.
"Who asked you to feed them?"
"Sorry," "Milly" apologized. "Just trying to figure that out makes my head hurt."
Realizing those questions would go nowhere, Cloud pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket and handed it to her. If a picture failed, perhaps this would succeed.
"A letter?!" she replied in surprise.
"Go ahead," Cloud gently commanded. "Read it."
"Milly" gave the letter a good look and repeated it aloud.
"Dear Cloud, if you are reading this, that means I have died. I don't know exactly how, but I felt it coming, and now it is time for me to say goodbye. I was having premonitions as much as you were. In fact, mine might have been stronger. I knew I was doomed since shortly before we met. It wasn't easy, but meeting you gave me hope. Not hope that I would live, but hope that I would spend my final days feeling like the happiest girl alive. And I did. Cloud, our time together might have been short, but you were the most meaningful person ever to enter to my life. Even the premonitions couldn't warn me about that. Cloud, I might be gone now, but you still have a job to do. I'm not asking you not to cry for me. Please, save the planet. You can honor my memory that way. Your friends are important to you, too. They are here to comfort you. Please let them. And don't forget, from beyond, I'm smiling at you. Love, Aerith. Hugs and kisses forever."
"Milly" slowly lowered the letter and looked at Cloud.
He could see that her eyes were wet.
Please remember, he thought.
"I'm so sorry!" she said. "That's so sad!"
"Listen," he continued. "I want to talk more about that letter."
"Who's Aerith?" "Milly" asked.
"You are," Cloud replied. "You wrote this letter."
"I'm sorry," "Milly" apologized. "But I don't remember writing it."
"Milly" then pulled a pen and a notepad from her jeans pocket and began to write something. She then took another look at the letter, and her eyes widened.
"You know," she said, "that is my handwriting."
Cloud finally decided to spell it out for her.
"Your name's not Milly. It's Aerith. You full name is Aerith Lee Gainsborough. You were born February 7, 1985. You graduated from Sector Six High School, class of 0003. Your mom's name is Elmyra, and you sell flowers for a living." He paused to catch his his breath. "And you're my girlfriend."
"Milly" gave him a skeptical look. "You're my boyfriend?" she asked.
"That's right," he replied. "You wrote that letter."
She suddenly took a step back.
"Wait a minute," she began. "I know what this is." Her eyes suddenly displayed anger. "You're just some pervert trying to get into my pants!"
He took a step toward her. "No, I swear-"
"Get away!" she demanded furiously. "I should've known! Cloud sounds like a gigolo's name, anyway!"
She prepared to turn and run.
Cloud needed to think fast. He had one final idea. He quickly pulled one more thing from his pocket.
It was the flower she had sold him when they first met.
"That flower's dead and withered!" "Milly" snapped after taking one look. "You're not going to impress me with something you got out of the garbage can!"
"I didn't. You sold it to me," Cloud reminded her.
He quickly tossed the flower in her direction.
She instinctively caught it.
"Milly" studied the withered flower. She could tell what kind of flower it had been by checking out the color of the withered petals. Then she sniffed it. The scent was familiar.
"Milly" then took a look at Cloud. She studied his face and his hair. Then, reaching with a trembling hand, she gently placed it on his face, feeling the skin she had felt many times before.
"Cloud?" she asked nervously.
"It's me," he replied gently.
Tears began to well up in her beautiful green eyes, with one rolling down her cheek.
"Aerith?" Cloud asked hopefully.
She nodded briefly before placing her other hand on his other cheek and pressing her lips hardly against his.
He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her close.
"Oh my God!" Aerith sobbed as she threw her arms around him. "Cloud! It's really you!"
He kissed her softly on the forehead.
"I can't believe I forgot my own boyfriend!" she exclaimed. "That's a new low!"
"It's all right," Cloud assured her. "We have a lot to talk about."
"No kidding!" Aerith agreed as she pulled herself back so she could face him.
"How much do you remember?" he asked.
"I really don't know," she replied. "I'm sure it'll slowly come back to me. We met when I was selling flowers like this one in the slums. We met again in the church by my house. We met up with Tifa and went to the Don's. Then I was kidnapped and you guys staged a rescue. I met Barret and we all met Red XIII. Then we left Midgar, began pursuing Sephiroth, crossed over to the Western Continent, and met Cait Sith, Yuffie, Vincent, and Cid. We got the Black Materia, then Sephiroth got the Black Materia, so I followed him to the Northern Continent. I went to the Forgotten Capital and prayed on the altar. I felt a draft above me, and then I found myself out here, feeding the horses, right before you came by."
Cloud was silent. What mattered had come back, but there was still a gaping plot hole; it did not explain what she had been doing in Midgar.
"Where is here, anyway?" Aerith continued.
"McPherson's," Cloud replied.
"The chocobo farm?!" she exclaimed. "How did I get back to the Eastern Continent?!"
"I'm not sure," Cloud replied.
"Did something happen in between?" Aerith asked. "The Forgotten Capital and here?"
"A lot," Cloud replied. "We went all the way to the North Pole and-"
"Oh my God!" Aerith loudly interrupted. She then pointed to the sky.
Cloud took but a second to realize that she was pointing at Meteor.
"That's not what I think it is, is it?" she asked.
"It is," Cloud replied.
"So Sephiroth summoned Meteor," said Aerith, rather casually. She then began to giggle. "Jokes on him, though. So what happened after that?"
"We stole the Shinra 2000," Cloud continued. "And renamed it the Highwind, after Cid. We then tried to blow up Meteor with a rocket, and after that we found out about Holy and what you were doing on the altar."
"So you know," Aerith said.
"But Holy hasn't moved," Cloud said. "And your White Materia didn't glow green."
"Maybe Meteor needs to get a little closer before any of that can happen," she suggested. "I guess that will come back to me as well."
Cloud shook his head. "It won't. You weren't with us."
Aerith gave him a perplexed look. "Not with you guys?" she asked. "Why, Cloud?"
Cloud sighed. He knew there was no easy way to tell her.
"It's been accepted that you died at the altar," he said.
"Died?" Aerith replied, confused. "How?"
"Sephiroth ambushed us," Cloud replied. "He jumped behind you while you were on the altar and stabbed you."
"Really?" asked Aerith. "Where?"
"Through the stomach," he answered.
In response, she finally released the embrace, and stepped back. She lifted up her shirt slightly, exposing her midriff.
"I don't have a scar," she observed.
"I noticed," Cloud said. "It surprises me, too."
"That would suck," Aerith said. "No more bikinis."
She then nestled herself back in his arms.
"So it's 0008 now," she continued. "And I'm dead?"
"Well," Cloud replied, "obviously not really. But we laid you to rest."
"You buried me?!" she exclaimed.
He quickly shook his head. "I put you in a nearby pond. It seemed fitting at the time. We talked about giving you a more proper funeral once this was all over."
She then looked up at Cloud. "How did I get off the Northern Continent, let alone out of the Forgotten Capital?"
"I haven't the foggiest, he replied.
"I'm sure it will slowly come back to me," Aerith assured him. "In the meantime, I guess I should go and tell Choco Bill who I really am."
And they began to walk, hand in hand, back to the house.
THAT EVENING...
Cloud was seated at the dining-room table, along with Aerith, Bill, Billy, and Chloe. They were finishing up with dinner.
"And Rufus Shinra fell to his death?" asked Bill.
Cloud nodded.
"Well," said Bill, "he will certainly not be missed. Except by maybe the whore that gave birth to him."
"Grandpa!" Chloe objected.
"Sorry," he sheepishly apologized.
She then turned her attention to the guest.
"You're really her?" asked Chloe. "The Aerith Gainsborough?"
"That would be me," Aerith replied. "I can't be that famous, can I?"
"You're a wanted woman," Billy said. "At least you were until last night."
"It's going to be interesting to see what happens in Midgar now," Bill said. "But I think it's safe to say you can go back there without any trouble now."
"That's a relief," Aerith said as she affectionately place her hand on Cloud's shoulder.
"Ew! Love!" Chloe shouted.
"Sorry," Bill apologized. "She's at that stage."
"No worries," Cloud assured him. "But we can't really get into Midgar. We had to parachute in last night."
"You won't anymore," Bill replied. He then produced what looked like a large key. "You know what this is?"
Cloud shook his head.
"I do," Aerith said. "It's a key to the wall doors. Where did you get this?"
"Where did you get this?" Bill repeated as he slid the key across the table. "You had it on you when we found you."
Aerith picked up the key and carefully studied it.
"I remember!" she exclaimed suddenly.
"Remember what?" asked Bill. "How you got the key?"
"Why I didn't die," Aerith clarified.
For a moment, everyone was silent.
"Well," asked Billy. "Why didn't you die?"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," Aerith answered.
"Figures," muttered Billy as he folded his arms.
"So I'll show you instead," Aerith finished as she pushed her chair back and stood.
She turned her back to everyone and began to walk towards the side of the room. And then, she disappeared into the wall. She reappeared through it moments later. Acting as if nothing had just happened, she sat down next to Cloud again.
Billy was frozen in fear.
"Are you a ghost?!" he asked nervously. "Is that it? You're actually the ghost of Aerith?"
"No," she replied as she produced a piece of Materia. "But I would be if it wasn't for this."
"What is it?" asked Chloe.
"Phase," Aerith replied. "Whenever I cast it, it renders me out of phase with the rest of the world."
"That's crazy!" Billy exclaimed. "Where did you find it?"
"Near the Temple of the Ancients," Aerith answered. "Someone just carelessly left it there. Why anyone would do such a thing is beyond me, but I found it, and it saved my life on the altar. The sword passed harmlessly through me. I stopped the spell right when he pulled the sword from me, so Cloud could catch me when I fell."
"Spell?" asked Chloe. "So instead of a ghost, you're a witch?"
"Chloe!" scolded Bill.
"It's a long story," Aerith said.
Cloud was amazed.
"So the time I thought I was cradling your dead body and laying you to rest, you were actually..."
"Yes, Cloud," Aerith replied with a smile. "I was very much alive."
"No wonder you were still warm," he observed.
"One thing," Chloe began. "How did you know he was going to try and kill you?"
"This is going to sound kind of weird," Aerith began, "but it started shortly before I met Cloud. I was selling flowers in the street, when I was suddenly getting all these premonitions of what was going to happen next. Like I had this feeling that I would meet someone right before Cloud showed up."
"Now that you mention it," Bill added, "I've been having premonitions myself."
"So then you knew where to find me!" Aerith laughed.
"Actually, I didn't see that coming at all," Bill replied. "That must've been pure luck."
"That's strange," Aerith observed. "What about you, Billy?"
Billy shook his head. "I didn't foresee you coming to the farm."
"Me neither," Chloe added.
"Well," said Bill as he got up from his seat. "You must miss each other terribly. I have a modular toward the north end of the farm I never use. You're welcome to stay there for the night."
OUTSIDE...
Cloud and Aerith, hand in hand, walked slowly from the main house to the back. It was a beautiful night, lit up by stars and sounded by chirping crickets.
As they turned the first bend, Aerith rested her head on his shoulder.
"I really missed you," she said.
"I missed you, too," he replied as he kissed her forehead.
"So you guys wiped out the Shinra," she observed. "I knew you'd continue to fight for the planet, but that was amazing. You listened to what I wrote in my letter."
"Mostly," Cloud said.
"Mostly?" Aerith asked.
"You told me not to cry," he reminded her. "But I cried for the next several days. Losing you was pretty hard."
Aerith stopped walking and turned to face him.
"I'm back, Cloud," she said. She then kissed him. "But, trust me, I cried, too."
Cloud pulled her in for a hug.
"I missed holding you," he said.
"I missed being held," she replied. "But now we can spend some quality you-and-me time."
They continued to walk silently down the path for a few minutes more. Finally, they arrived at the modular. This was at the far edge of the farm. To the north, Cloud could see a beautiful lake. Beyond that, he saw a tall mountain. He shuddered slightly when he realized that the Urchin could be hiding behind that mountain.
Trying to put that out of his mind, Cloud opened the door to the modular, revealing a landing of about nine square feet, with the door on one side, two walls on two others, and a small set of seven stairs.
"Listen," Aerith said, "my feet are killing me." She then turned to face him and placed her hands on his shoulders.
Cloud took the hint. He picked up his girlfriend by the legs, gently carrying her up the stairs, kissing her the entire time. He gently set her down at the top.
"Well," began Aerith. "Here we are."
There was a queen-sized bed, along with a television and a sofa. To the back was a bathroom with a tub and shower.
"I think it belonged to his daughter," he said. "The real Milly."
And then, Aerith began to cry.
Cloud quickly wrapped her arms around her waist and held her close.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"I'm sorry!" she said as she buried her head in his shoulder. "I'm sorry I broke you."
"You didn't mean to," Cloud assured her.
"I wanted to cry so bad when I was listening to those things you were saying," Aerith continued. "But I couldn't even put my fist in my mouth!"
"It's okay," Cloud whispered.
"I did such a cruel thing to you," Aerith continued. "It's not okay."
"If you didn't," Cloud replied, "you might be dead for real."
The tears suddenly stopped coming; he did have a point. It never seemed to take much for him to make her feel better.
"I love you so much, Cloud," Aerith continued as she kissed him again.
"I love you, too," Cloud said. "Life was never the same after you were gone."
"But here I am," Aerith replied.
The smile then faded from his face. Her return did not decide the fate of their quest. There was still work to be done.
"We have a lot to talk about," Cloud said.
"I know," Aerith agreed. "Sephiroth is still out there. We won't be safe as long as he's around." She then took an unexpected look at the bathroom. "But first things first," she said.
She turned and walked into the bathroom.
Cloud saw the light switch on, followed by the sound of water running.
Aerith then returned to where Cloud was standing.
"I think the rest of my memory will return soon enough," she said. "But now, it's time to relax."
"I know," Cloud said. "I think you've earned that bath you're about to take."
"I'm not taking a bath," Aerith said.
Before Cloud could comprehend what she meant by that, Aerith unzipped his pants and yanked them down, along with his boxers.
"Whoa!" exclaimed Cloud. "What's going on?!"
He was quite surprised. He knew she would be happy to see him, but he did not expect her to be that frisky so soon.
"They said one of the most romantic things you can do is shampoo and bathe your love," Aerith explained. "And I would like to shampoo and bathe my love."
She took his hand and led him into the bathroom. By this point, the tub was full enough, so she turned off the water. She then kissed him again before pulling off his sweater.
"Hop in," she commanded.
Cloud did as he was told. He continued to stand, and he continued to smile.
"I could look at that face all day," she sighed aloud as she kissed him.
She then took a washcloth and began to bathe his chest.
"So what else happened to my boy while I was gone?" she asked.
"I mentioned I went into space, didn't I?" he answered.
"I think so," she said. "Did you get to float around?"
Cloud nodded.
Aerith sighed. "I wish I could've been there with you."
"We'll have more adventures together," he assured her.
She then smiled. "You made me feel better again."
She kissed him, and pulled him in for a hug. Upon breaking the hug, Aerith noticed her shirt was now drenched.
"Oh great," she muttered. "Now my shirt's soaked!"
She then kissed him again, pushing his hand down so it was resting on her butt through her jeans.
Cloud could take the hint. He grasped the bottom of her shirt, lifted it up over her head, and tossed it aside.
Now in her bra, Aerith began to bathe his shoulders, kissing him sporadically as she did so.
"This is a make-up for all the days we missed," she giggled.
She then bumped into his wet chest, getting water all over her bra.
"I am such a klutz today!" she laughed as she turned her back to him.
Cloud unhooked her bra and tossed it to where her shirt was.
Smiling, Aerith began to hum as she bathed his legs.
"So where's everyone else?" she asked.
"They're all doing some soul-searching," he answered.
"Soul-searching?"
"No worries," he assured her. "They'll be back."
She then stood up to face Cloud, putting her hand on her hip.
"Maybe it's for the best," she said with a smile.
"What makes you say that?" he asked.
"We have some overdue naked time," Aerith replied with a smile.
Cloud smiled back as he unzipped her jeans and allowed them to drop to her ankles. He then slipped off her panties, picked her up (causing her to squeal in delight and kiss him), and set her down in the tub with him. He then sat down, with her kneeling and facing him.
"I missed this!" she said happily.
"Me, too," Cloud said.
His smile again faded from his face. Despite being absorbed in his love and lust, he could not forget the situation. The next few days would indeed be complicated.
Aerith placed her hands on her bare thighs.
"Something's on your mind, isn't it?" she asked.
He nodded, well aware that she could read him like a book. He figured that he might as well begin to tell her the whole thing.
"I don't know how to explain this," Cloud began, "but we're actually living in an alternate timeline. It's a long, long story, but I've found out that history has been changed. There's been some time travelling."
"By Bestla," Aerith replied.
He was surprised; that was not a response he had seen coming. It seemed she might know something that he did not.
"You know who she is?" Cloud asked.
Aerith nodded. "A rather vengeful woman, if you ask me."
"How did you find out about her?" Cloud asked.
"The p lanet told me," Aerith replied as she picked up the washcloth and again ran it lovingly over Cloud's arms and shoulders. "I got down on the floor and listened, just like that other time."
"What did it tell you?"
"That Bestla was from the future," Aerith replied as she began to re-scrub his chest. "And that she wanted to take over the world the same way Sephiroth does."
"And?"
"That was it," she answered. "Turn around."
Cloud did as he was told, and sighed.
"Why so glum?" Aerith asked as she placed the cloth on his back.
Cloud sighed again. "Bestla killed me," he said.
Suddenly, he felt a new sensation as a pair of female fingers pinched his exposed buttocks.
"You don't feel like a ghost to me!" Aerith giggled.
Cloud did not laugh back. "In the future," he clarified. "Nine years from now. I fell into the Lifestream while you were gone, and I somehow regained the memories of my former life. She killed Barret by knocking him off a bridge and breaking his back. She killed Tifa with some ray gun that had the same blue energy that destroyed Junon. She tearfully turned to dust. Finally, she killed me with a gunshot to the stomach. It was the most painful feeling I ever had. Then I felt my mind slip and, then, I was getting off the train, ready to blow up Reactor One."
Cloud then felt a pair of arms wrap around his neck, followed by Aerith's naked body pressing against his back. She kissed his bare back, making her way up to his shoulders, neck, and finally his cheek.
"It's okay," she assured him. "Can you turn around again?"
Cloud did so.
Aerith put the cloth down, placed her hands on Cloud's cheeks, and pressed her lips against his.
"I love you," she said when she broke the kiss.
She then shimmied back a few inches, remaining on her knees.
"But aren't you going to bathe your girlfriend?"
Cloud smiled and nodded.
Aerith smiled back.
"I got your letter," he said as her pressed the cloth on her bare shoulder. "You're having premonitions, too?"
"I was," she replied. "They started while is was selling flowers. That was...the night I met you."
"And you've had them the whole time ever since?" Cloud asked.
"But after I faked my death at the ruins, they stopped. And I don't know why. I'm guessing there's a connection between the premonitions and Bestla coming back in time."
"That's what we all think," he said as he took care of her arms.
"Weird," Aerith said.
"A lot of weird things have been happening," Cloud added. "We parachuted into Midgar last night pursuing Bestla. We tracked her visually, and then she just vanished. I have no idea where she could have gone."
She suddenly began to giggle.
"What's so funny?" Cloud asked.
Aerith shrugged her bare shoulders. "Oh, nothing," she replied with a grin. "Tell you later."
He then began to run the cloth over her midriff.
She placed her hands on her bare hips and gave him one of those playful-annoyed looks.
"You miss a spot," she informed him.
"Where?" Cloud asked.
"My boobs, silly."
Cloud bathed what Aerith asked him to bathe and returned to her midriff.
She then began to look upset.
"What's wrong," he asked.
"I think you know," she grumbled.
Cloud took a moment to figure out what he could have done wrong. Then it hit him.
"You're feeling horny, aren't you?"
Aerith gave an embarrassed smile and nodded.
"Wanna get fucked, then?" he asked.
"Excuse you!" Aerith playfully scolded as she folded her arms.
"What?"
"You're really blunt," she observed. "Don't you want to ask your girlfriend a little more nicely?"
"You don't mind if I fuck you?"
Aerith's embarrassed smile turned into a seductive grin as she shook her head.
"You don't mind?"
She shook her head again. "I suppose that's a little more polite."
She then turned away from Cloud, positioning herself on her hands and knees.
Cloud, quickly erect, raised himself onto his own knees before sliding his penis inside her.
Aerith gasped as he felt him inside her vagina.
He began to thrust into her; slowly at first, but gradually began to move faster.
"Oh, shit!" Aerith moaned desperately.
Cloud grabbed her butt, causing her to moan even louder.
"Don't let go!" she moaned as she flung her head back, lost in the moment. "Harder!"
Cloud continued to thrust, and Aerith did what she could to thrust back. Both knew they would not last long.
"Gonna cum!" Cloud moaned as he continued to thrust.
"Oh, cum in me!" Aerith begged.
He continued to pound and pound, his hands on her butt tightening.
This was too much for Aerith.
"Oh, I'm cumming!" she wailed.
The feeling of Aerith's vagina tightening around his penis was too much for Cloud as well, and he fired his seed deep into her womb.
They stayed in position for a few moments, catching their breaths. Then, Cloud slowly pulled himself out of Aerith.
"Feel better now that you got laid?" Cloud asked.
"Mmm-hmmm," Aerith replied contentedly.
She was sitting up on her knees again, only this time she was facing away from him. Cloud had resumed his bathing duties, and was running the cloth over her back and shoulders.
"What's on your mind?" she asked, well aware he was glancing at her bare butt whenever he got a chance.
"You just look so sexy after sex," he replied as he moved to her lower back.
She smiled at him briefly before looking away.
"Cloud," she began, "I need to tell you something."
"Sure," he said.
She took a breath and prepared herself.
"When we finish Sephiroth off...I'd like to get a place together."
Cloud was silent. It was not something he had seen coming. He knew she was happy to be with him again, but this was a surprise.
"There will be more to do after we take care of Sephiroth," Cloud said.
"I'm one hundred percent fully aware," Aerith assured him. "I promise."
She then placed her hands on her knees, and look a deeper breath.
"And...there's something else I want to talk about," she added.
Cloud could not see her face, but he could tell that, based on her breathing, she was gathering the courage to bring up something very serious.
"I...um..."
He looked on at this beautiful woman that was opening up her heart to him.
"Sorry, I'm really nervous," she said sheepishly. "I'm such a girl."
"It's okay," he assured her.
"Here, hold my hand," she asked.
Cloud did so, and he felt her clutch it quite strongly.
"After we get a place...I...want to talk about getting married." Her hand began to clutch even tighter.
Now Cloud was speechless. They had only known each other for a few weeks. Was she really ready?
"I know it seems like I'm always thinking about you with my vagina, but you have a special place in my heart that nobody else can have. I know what I want," Aerith continued. "And I want you."
"You're not...proposing, are you?" Cloud asked.
"No, silly, I can't propose. I'm a girl."
"I'll surprise you," Cloud said. He felt that was a safe response; it did not specify a timeframe.
"I promise I'll be a good wife," Aerith said as she continued to clutch his hand.
Cloud remained silent. That was it; he would give it time to make sure she was seriously ready.
"Hey!" Aerith exclaimed. "Are you listening? Or are you staring at my butt?"
"I'm multitasking," Cloud replied.
"Naughty," she said.
They finally finished bathing an hour later and dried each other off. Aerith left the bathroom first and stood by the bed. She could sense Cloud was still staring at her naked body, so she stretched to give him all its glory.
"How's the view?" she asked sweetly.
"Gorgeous," he complimented.
She turned her head and smiled. Then she yawned.
"Need to crash?" Cloud asked.
"I think so," Aerith replied before yawning again.
"I'll go find a place to stay, then," he said.
Aerith turned around, placed her hand on her hip, and gave him a look.
"You can stay with me tonight," she offered. "Two things, though."
"Shoot," Cloud said.
"Can I have your sweater?" she asked.
"Of course," he agreed.
"Thanks," replied Aerith as she got up off the bed, picked up Cloud's discarded sweater, and put in on, zipping it up.
"I know," he said. "Your boobs."
"That and it does get kind of cold here," she said.
Deciding to remain nude, Cloud sat down on the bed with his legs folded.
Aerith sat down next to him, with her hands behind her and her legs stretched forward.
Then, a troubled look began to plague his face.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing really," he answered. "I just don't want to lose you again."
"You won't," Aerith assured him. "I'm pretty sure Sephiroth still thinks I'm dead."
He did not seem reassured. "Let me rephrase that. What would cause you to leave me?"
She looked upwards for a moment as she thought.
"Abuse," she finally replied.
"That's it?" asked Cloud.
"That's it," Aerith replied as she gripped his hand and looked at him sincerely in the eyes. "Cloud, I'm not going anywhere," she said. She then placed her other hand on his as well. "You're the only guy for me. I love you, Cloud. There's a special place for you in my heart that nobody else can have."
She then bent in and kissed him.
"You said there were two things," Cloud reminded her.
"Oh yeah," she said. "Can we spoon?"
"You bet," he answered.
Soon, the lights were off, and Cloud had his arms wrapped around Aerith, with their bodies pressed together.
"How are you feeling?" he asked.
"Safe," she replied. "Very, very safe."
"Me too," he said.
"You're repeating me again," she teased.
"I am not!" he teased back. "Liar, liar, pants on fire!"
"I'm not wearing any pants!" Aerith giggled as Cloud kissed her cheek again.
It had been a unique day. His suspicions had been confirmed, and now Aerith was in his arms once again, as if she had never been gone.
One thing remained, though.
He would have to give Tifa the dreadful talking-to.
Or would it be Aerith who got the ax? Aerith was firing sparks in him like there was no tomorrow, but Tifa was the loyal companion he knew since childhood.
"I don't know," he whispered aloud. "I just don't know."
"Don't know what?" she asked.
"Where Bestla is," he replied, lying.
"Go to sleep, Cloud," she commanded. "We can talk more tomorrow."
Five minutes later, both were in peaceful slumber.
THE NEXT MORNING...
Cloud awoke the next morning to find himself alone in the bed. He was baffled as the waking world came into focus. He briefly wondered if it had all been a dream, but he knew that would be a rather silly thing to consider. First, he was in a strange location. Second, he was naked. He would neither be in such a location, nor sleep in such a state, on his own. He had certainly not gotten drunk; he would be hungover for sure.
He then peered over the edge of the bed to see a beautiful girl, wearing nothing but his sweater, laying on the floor in the fetal position. Her eyes were just opening.
"Uh-oh," she said. "Not again."
She lifted herself to her knees and placed her elbows on the bed, kissing her boyfriend in the process.
"What happened?" Cloud asked.
"I think I turned over in my sleep!" Aerith giggled.
"Whoops!" he laughed.
"That happens when I sleep good," she said. "I haven't slept good since the Forgotten Capital."
"I'll bet," Cloud said.
Aerith rested her head on her hand and looked at him.
"Aren't you going to help your girlfriend to her feet?" she asked.
Cloud sat up, reached out his hands, allowed Aerith to grab them with both of hers, and helped her to her feet.
"Thanks!" she said before kissing him. She then giggled. "I'm taller than you!"
"That's because I'm sitting," he said as he placed his hands on her bare hips and began to rock her gently from side to side.
"Fine, you win," she said. "But, as you can see, I have the better balance!"
"Why do you say that?" Cloud asked.
"Because I'm a girl, silly," Aerith replied as she again pressed her lips against his. "By the way, guess what?"
"What?" asked Cloud as he continued to playfully rock her.
"I remember everything!" she announced.
"That's great," he said.
"Needless to say, I have a lot to tell you," she said. "Will you listen?"
"Of course," he replied.
"Really?" she asked. "Because you seem very interested in the TV, which isn't on, by the way."
It was no mystery to Aerith why Cloud was looking into the television; it was because her exposed butt was reflected in it.
"Stand up," she suddenly commanded. "But keep your hands on my hips."
He stood up.
Smiling, and keeping her hands on his shoulders, she led him to the center of the modular, and away from the television.
"What's happening?" he asked.
"Just getting rid of a few distractions," she said as she placed her hands on his face. "Now I think you're ready to listen."
She then kissed him once more.
