FF8 Presents The Thing

Chapter 6


Back at the base, they relax. Seifer is playing electronic chess while sipping a beer. Selphie and Irvine share the couch, her head on his lap as he strokes her cheek. Ward looks up any info on type of metal that came from the crash site but so far has found nothing. Zell is still reviewing the tapes.

Zell, “ Oh man, Seifer... this makes the Odine laboratory look like child’s play.”

Seifer was engrossed in his game.

Zell, “ Seifer!”

Seifer impatiently responds, “ How would I know? I’m not into science shit.”

Laguna is in the kitchen making the kids something warm and nourishing to help lift their spirits. He is looking for his lucky crock pot when he comes across a piece of torn clothing.

Laguna, “ Hey! Who’s undies?”

In the Rec room, Zell finally gets seifer to spill the theory he was thinking of.

Seifer, “ The ship crashes and the pilot must have went for a walk only to freeze.”

Zell, “ Oh.... And the Galbadians years later find both in the ice!”

Laguna skates into the room and throws the underwear on to a coffee table, “ Okay, which one of you have been hiding your laundry in my kitchen? You do it one more time and I’ll feed it to you!” with that skates out in a huff.

Seifer looks the torn underwear over a bit puzzled. Then throws it away in disgust.

Zell, “ Okay so they dig him up and thaw him thinking they found something amazing. But he ends up kicking their ass.”

Irvine, “ Still alive after ten thousand years?”

Seifer, “ Maybe because he isn’t from this planet? Who cares? I wish you people would leave me alone.”

Zell, “ What do you think, Raijin?”

Raijin, “ I go with whatever Seifer thinks, ya know. “

Irvine, “ But whatever it was, it got to the chocobo and it came to us.”

Squall, “ Its over now.”

Dr. Kadowaki walks into the room, “ Is it?”

They go back to where the bodies are, Dr. Kadowaki rips the mass mutated chocobo mess open letting them all see what is inside.

Dr. Kadowaki, “ This thing is capable of changing its form. It absorbs part of the target creature and tries to absorb it. In the process its own cells imitate the subject exactly... as it did this chocobo.”

Selphie, “ Oh, poor Bob!”

Quistis, “ Bob was dead long ago. This is merely an imitation of him. We have to make sure there is nothing left or.. “

Laguna, “ Or what?”

Raijin, “ That thing might come and take one of us out, ya know?”

Irvine, “ That thing in the ice was no chocobo... “

Zell, “ Like Duh. But it woke up! Maybe it was all confused and needed to take change to live on our planet. Then Galbadian people tried to kill it. Only it got a chocobo before they could.”

Selphie, “ What to you mean?”

Quistis, “ This thing must have absorbed Bob cell by cell. “

Raijin, “ That like blows my mind, ya know!”

Zell, “ So that.. thing became a chocobo?”

Dr. Kadowaki, “ Yes. We are talking about something that can imitate other organism perfectly. It can be one to several chocobo without losing any mass.”

Squall, “ So how is this nightmare not over?”

Dr. Kadowaki, “ I found some cellular activity in this.. It is not truly dead.”
