Chapter 5
Late, As Always
Chapter 5
This one’s pretty short. I felt, however, that the last chapter should end where it did.
This chapter sounds brutal and sad, but I swear it gets better. Bear with me and these short chapters.
----------------------
Sephiroth laid Cloud gently on his bed and sat beside the blonde, worried. Hojo said he would wake soon, and the General sincerely hoped that for once, the researcher was correct.
***
A week had passed since the injections, and Cloud was still unconscious. Sephiroth dabbed his sweaty forehead with a cool, damp cloth. The boy’s breathing was harsh and shallow.
“Please, wake up soon…”
***
Two weeks after the injections, Cloud was worsening dramatically. The blonde cadet was thin and pale, with a high fever and low heart rate. Sephiroth checked his pulse for the hundredth time and was startled to find that it had dropped even lower.
Seconds later, Cloud suddenly stopped breathing.
“No…” Sephiroth whispered. “No!”
It was too late. Cloud was gone.
