Chapter 6

Vincent was gripping Cloud so hard that the swordsman could hardly breath.
“Vincent, could you ease up on the grip?” Cloud was happy to feel the gunman loosen up.
“My apologizes.”
“No worries Vincent, everything will be alright.” The blonde could felt Vincent tense.
“No it’s not alright. I should have never left. It’s all my fault if something happens to them.” The guilt was dripping from the raven haired man’s voice. Vincent looked up at his surroundings. The business buildings were beginning to get shorter meaning to his relief that they were much closer than he thought. It would only be a matter of minutes before they reached the outskirts. Vincent was quite for a long while, before his thoughts were interrupted by Cloud.
“Look up Vincent, there in the background.” Dark locks fell slowly onto his back as he raised his head. His eye shot open, wide with fear.
“Cloud!” Vincent urged the blonde to go faster and the swordsman obliged accelerating even more than his already reckless speed. Smoke was rising steadily from the direction of his home bringing new fears to crush his heart. He almost didn’t hear Cloud speaking to him.
“Listen Vincent when we get there just find Cid and I’ll take care of the girls.” Only a few minutes later Cloud slammed on the breaks while Vincent launched himself high into the air, landing gracefully on the doorstep. He burst through the door and ran straight through to the back door. Cid’s screams filled his ears and he found Shera standing outside the burning shed with a sadistic smile on her face. The woman turned around to investigate the noise and found herself face to face with a half transformed Vincent Valentine. She was only able to scream before Chaos took a claw to her chest. As Chaos released Vincent back into his own body the gunman rushed to the burning shed. His gauntlet made quick work of the lock and Vincent was terrified when there on the floor was Cid trying to bat away the flames that seemed to be spreading over his body.

The pilot looked up at a noise he vaguely heard to see Vincent in the doorway. At first he thought he was imagining but when he felt cloth being wrapped around him tightly was he for sure that Vincent was truly there. He was quickly lifted and rushed out of the shed. After the gunman had lain him on the ground was he able to feel safe.

Slowly he raised his gaze to meet the aviators.
“Cid…” He choked as he could feel the pilot shaking in his arms.
“Vin…I’m sorry.” Vincent was confused by this statement.
“Why are you sorry?”
“I couldn’t fight her and I didn’t mean to make you worry. I thought I wouldn’t get to see you again. Vin I’m real happy I get to see again.” Vincent cradled Cid in his arms. He could not ever remember being this afraid. Most certainly never in battle. It was knew feeling for him and he didn’t know how to react, so he did what his body told him to.

Cid was surprised to see the usually stoic man letting tears fall. It compelled him to comfort the dark haired man.
“Vin… don’t worry. Everything is aright now.” Vincent shook his head.
“No Cid everything is not alright. You could have died and it would have been all my fault. My world could have ended and there would have been nothing left for me.” Cid was shocked to hear such words from the gunman and was displeased that he never got to reply.
“Are you guys alright?” Yelled Cloud as the rest of Avalanche all but Barret followed their leader outside.

Vincent hide his head and Cid felt obligated to answer so the gunman did not have to show his emotion.
“Yes we’re fine.” Vincent sniffed at his reply.
“You know you are not alright so don’t try to hide it.” He whispered in the pilot’s ear before speaking up to Cloud.
“Tifa… Yuffie are they?”
“They will be fine. I’m going home to get some supplies.” Cloud said as he left them.
“Vincent what do you think we should do with her?” The gunman looked up with a yellow gleam to his eyes.
“Keep her alive. I want her to rot the rest of her miserable life knowing she failed.” Nanaki only nodded as Reeve and him self picked Shera up and left.

Vincent was careful to remove his cloak from around Cid for fear of hurting him more. The aviator gripped Vincent’s arms in pain and closed his eyes not wanting to look. Vincent sighed in regret eyes gazing upon burns that covered his legs, forearms, and the left side of his face.
“Stop Vincent I don’t look at them. I don’t want you to see.” Cid looked away.
“Cid look at me.” The pilot slowly looked up at the gunman. Vincent could see such emotion in those azure eyes that it almost shattered his heart to pieces.
“Vin… take me inside.
