Storm Cloud Smiles
Flora_Winters Disclaimer: I do not own Final Fantasy VII or Crisis Core and I’m not making any money here either. I do believe Final Fantasy VII is one of the best video games ever to me made and anyone who has the balls to disagree with the AWESOME that is ME will be all smitey-smoted by my lovely Knights of the Round. Summary: Sometimes the dead simply do not stay where he thought he didn’t bury them. A ghost story which haunts windswept halls and beyond time. MM, Strong Language, Violence, Cloud-Zack, Cloud-Genesis, Cloud-Sephiroth, Cloud-Vincent, Genesis-Sephiroth Chapter Five: Let the Crazy Shine Cloud opened his eyes, finding himself looking out a familiar looking window, down onto a very familiar looking street. Noticing his reflection in the window pane, he realized he was wearing his old Shin-Ra uniform and that he was looking down onto Nibelheim. He was in the inn! He was in the inn, looking down onto his home street. In fact, his home was just around the corner. He put his hands up, touching the cold glass as he looked down onto the rain drenched street in shock. It was real. He was actually touching cold glass. It felt just the way he remembered it feeling all those years ago. What was going on? Was this another dream? Had Sephiroth sucked him down into another nightmare? Was he dead? He froze when he felt a pair of familiar arms sensuously wrapping themselves around his narrow waist from behind. He was gently pulled backwards against a rock hard chest, feeling soft kisses being planted on the back of his pale neck. “Why do you have that expression on your face again for, Cloud?” The voice which haunted his every windswept hall asked in a low chuckle. Petal soft lips nibbled on his left earlobe. It sent shivers shooting down his spine, making his knees slightly shake. “Nowadays you’re always getting yourself lost in that spiky head of yours.” Cloud spun around in those muscular arms, looking up into Zack Fair’s handsome face. His blue eyes widened in wonder as he slowly reached up to put both his naked palms on either side of the taller SOLDIERS’ face. “What’s wrong, Cloud?” Zack asked, placing his bigger hands on top of his. “You’re so pale. You look as though you’ve seen a ghost or something? Are you not feeling well?” Cloud trembled. Is this real? Am I dreaming? Has Sephiroth drained me to the point where I’m fantasizing? He didn’t know. All he did know was that the past was walking around before his very eyes to gaze at. He slowly traced Zack’s rugged face with his chilled fingers, feeling every curve, remembering just how smooth his soft skin was. He bit his bottom lip as he did so and swiftly put both hands to Zack’s broad chest and shoved him backwards with a powerful thrust. Zack stumbled back several steps and caught himself. He had a look of shock on his stunned face. Cloud bet he hadn’t thought he’d possessed such physical strength. “What the hell was that for?” Zack growled, putting his hands on his hips, glaring at him with mild amusement. “Is this some new game of yours you’re trying out on me? Should I lock the door?” Cloud stalked forward, shoving him backwards again. The spiky, dark headed stud stumbled backwards again and fell over onto the bed with a bounce. “What the fuck, Cloud?” Zack asked in shock, only to grin like a wolf when the blond straddled his waist, jerking on his vest, trying to rip it off him. “Hold on,” Zack struggled with him. “I’ll take it off, all right. Stop it! You’re going to tear it. They don’t replace these for free you know.” “Shut up!” Cloud snapped like a weremoose trap, jerking on the vest even harder, trying to get the damn thing off of him. He wanted it off of him. He had to know. He fucking had to know! Zack zipped his mouth. His eyes were wide. It caused Cloud to snicker under his breath. Was he scaring him? It felt good to be something the nightmare was afraid of for a change. “What’s gotten into you?” Zack nervously laughed, helping the smaller man with his vest. “There. There, it’s off now. Happy?” Cloud carelessly tossed the thing over his head, ignoring the shattering of a vase and ignored the pout on Zack’s face too. He pushed the bigger man down, looking at his buff chest with a critical eye. He released a shaky breath, gently tracing the almost invisible crescent scar above Zack’s left nipple. He blinked his stinging eyes several times and the tears began to fall. There was no way Sephiroth could know about this scar. It was so small and faint and as far as he knew, Sephiroth had never seen Zack without a shirt on before. And even if he had, he would have had to of been really up close and personal to see something as tiny and insignificant as this moon shaped scar. “Hey,” Zack said, reaching up and caressing a wet cheek. “What is wrong with you? Huh?” Cloud flinched away from that loving hand, nearly falling off the bed. He got up off Zack and stumbled backwards, looking this way and that, feeling like a caged beast. It was another nightmare. He was trapped in another nightmare. This wasn’t real. None of this could possibly be real. There were no such things as second chances and rewrites. Any minute now, Zack’s flesh would start rotting and Sephiroth would come crashing through the locked window, giggling like a demonic possessed little schoolboy. The wind rattled the window and Cloud cried out in blind fright. He took off racing from the room, screaming to the point of rubbing his throat raw with glass when he spotted two very familiar faces from SOLDIER just staring back at him with just as spooked expressions on their gawking faces. He was surrounded by ghosts. He was surrounded by the dead. “Cloud?” The one on the left asked. He pushed passed them, causing them both to quickly grab hold of the wooden banister in order to keep themselves from crashing down the steps as the blond rushed down them without so much as looking back or apologizing for nearly causing them to fall and break their necks. He just wanted to get away. Any moment now, Sephiroth would jump out from a well placed shadow and tackle him to the ground. “Cloud!” Zack yelled after him. “What the hell is wrong with you?” “Mr. Strife?” A concerned voice asked from behind the ornate wooden counter where people would pay and check in, but Cloud gave the familiar old man the finger and raced out the door with a loud bang, leaving it wide open. Thunder boomed and lightening split the sky high over his head. The falling rain stung his face and he didn’t care. He had to get out of here. He had to find the door that would allow him to wake up. “Cloud!” Zack called from behind and he could hear those swift booted feet giving chase after him. “Where are you going? Come back here! Cloud!” Zack could run really fast. Zack could actually move so fast, it was like he hadn’t even moved, but just suddenly appeared a hundred feet away. But, Zack only did that when lives were at stake or if he was just showing off for him to roll his eyes over and blush about. “Stay away from me!” He screamed over the thunder, blindly turning and running down a dark alley. He stumbled over loose cobblestone, falling to one knee, but he got right back up. His heart was racing a hundred miles an hour and the pain was nothing. He had to get away. The only thing that worried him was that his heart was going to explode out of his ribcage and race off, leaving him in its bloody spray all alone to deal with the monsters chasing him. He ran around a sharp corner and ran right smack into a dead end. He kicked the wall and spun around in horror when he heard Zack ever so close. “Cloud! You’re going to hurt yourself!” He screamed and spun back around, clawing at the brick wall with his fingers, tearing scrapes in it and tearing his flesh. Jumping over it never crossed his mind. It would have been an easy feat if he had been in his right mind, but, instead, he tried to barrel his way through it. He had to get through. He just had to. He started jumping and pounding his bleeding fists against it. “Cloud?” Zack was right behind him. “NO!” Cloud screamed, throwing himself against the wall now, hitting it with powerful blows, small chunks falling down on him. “Don’t come near me! Don’t touch me! You’re not real! None of this is real! Leave me alone! Go away!” Zack’s voice was so soft. “Cloud?” Cloud fell to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably as he looked at his hands. His nails were torn and his skin was cut, broken and bleeding. He slowly turned his head around, looking up at Zack with a horrible fear in his wide, terrified eyes. “Don’t hurt me,” he whispered, pleading, backing away to huddle in the wall’s dark corner. “Please, don’t hurt me.” Zack suddenly looked like he was the one trapped inside of a nightmare. The taller man went down on both knees before him, reaching out, only to stop when Cloud covered his head as if expecting a blow, trembling even worse. “I’m sorry,” Cloud cried, holding his bloody hands to his tear-streaked face, squeezing his eyes shut, doing his very best to melt into the wall and away. “I’m so sorry!” Zack stayed where he was, not moving. He dared not move any closer and kept his voice soft. “What are you sorry for?” “I watched you die,” Cloud moaned, trying to back up through the wall. He wanted to crawl into the darkness and hide. “I let you die!” “I’m right here,” Zack said in a comforting tone. “I’m not dead. See? You’ve not done anything. You must have been having a bad dream.” “Stay back!” Cloud shrieked. His eyes were glowing like molten blue jewels. “Quit mocking me! You’re dead! They fucking shot you! I saw every bleeding hole they put in you! So many, may holes. I couldn’t do anything! I couldn’t make them stop bleeding. You just had to be my fucking hero! You couldn’t just hide with me! You had to be the man. You left me. You left me to drown. Well, fuck you!” Zack looked as though he had just been struck across the face and then told his parent’s had been trampled by a rhinoswan. “What is going on?” A new voice deadpanned and Cloud’s heart froze as if it had just been transformed into a lump of ice in his chest. He ever so slowly turned his head up. A dark shape stood on the roof to the side. A long, black leather coat snapped in the wind and rain. “YOU!” Cloud roared, holding out his finger, instantly firing a bolt of lightning without knowing he had any Materia on him. “THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!” The tall shadow deflected the bolt with a very long blade that shimmered in the darkness and Cloud jumped to his feet, eyes filled with power. “What has gotten into you, Cloud?” The tall man asked, lowering his long blade. “Why won’t you just die?” Cloud howled as thunder bellowed and lightning split the heavens over all three of them, firing another bolt, followed by three more. He had the freedom to use magic and he wasn’t going to question the small gift. The shadow blocked them just as easily, which only pissed off Cloud all the more. He held up his hands, summoning bolt after bolt and throwing them with bullet precision. “I don’t know what’s wrong with him, Sephiroth!” Zack yelled up at the long haired shadow, shielding his eyes from the bright blasts coming from Cloud’s glowing hands. “It’s like he’s trapped in some kind of dream and won’t wake up from it.” “Silence!” Cloud yelled, turning on Zack, firing a bolt at him, too. “If you think I’m going to let you chew on me, you’ve got another thing coming. Go the fuck away and leave me the fuck alone!” Zack leapt to the side as the venom green bolt hissed by him, striking a metal garbage bin with an exploding sizzle. The scent of ozone permeated the air. Cloud saw his opening and ducked to the right and took off running by Zack, only to cry out when an iron grip snatched his wrist and spun him back around. The bigger man then tackled him, knocking him down onto his back really hard, sending all the air rushing from his lungs. “Calm down!” Zack yelled in his face, squeezing him until he was blue in the face, panting heavily. “I’m not letting you go until you promise to calm down.” Cloud screamed and squirmed until he couldn’t anymore without breathing. Tears of rage and terror streamed from his eyes like acid. He snarled and snapped at Zack’s hands with his teeth, trying to do anything to get free. Sparks sizzled and popped from his palms as he tried to free himself so he could use more lightning. “Don’t make me put a sleep spell on you, Cloud,” Zack hissed, having to really struggle with him. “You know I’m really good at that.” “No!” Cloud cried, arching his back off the wet pavement, fighting to get loose. “I want to wake up!” “You are awake,” Sephiroth said, looming over Zack’s jerking shoulder. “Zack,” Cloud whispered, eyes widening into sheer madness and then screamed. “Don’t let him get me! Please don’t let him get me!” “Nobody is going to get you, Cloud,” Zack cooed to him, turning to look at Sephiroth who was kneeing beside him. “It is only us. You have nothing to be afraid of.” “Let me die,” Cloud moaned, struggling even though it was useless to continue. “Just let me die. It is warm there.” “We need to get him out of the rain and into a warm bath,” Sephiroth whispered into Zack’s ear, vanishing. “Come on, Cloud,” Zack said to him, being ever so cautious as he pulled him up, ignoring the blonde’s psycho rant. “Everything is going to be okay. Nobody is going to hurt you. I’ll ram a grenade up their ass and set it off if they try.” Every cell in Cloud’s body was screaming for him to run the fuck away as soon as the hold relinquished just a little bit more. His heart was telling him to hold onto Zack, but his brain was crying for him to get the fuck out of there. “If you try and run,” Zack said, looking down into his blurry blue eyes. “I’m going to come after you and once you’re done showing off your magic skills, I’m going to kick your ass until you can’t walk properly for at least a year.” Cloud struggled to pull away from him, but Zack was having none of it. He pulled the blond ever so close and kissed him on top of his wet head. He rested his face against Zack’s naked chest, feeling the warmth radiating from the taller man like a furnace. Zack was always warm. Always warm. Always safe. Zack makes me feel safe. He squeezed his eyes shut, focusing on his breathing, allowing Zack’s close warmth and flesh to comfort him. “Come on,” Zack said, just holding him by the wrist now. “I’m going to take you back to the inn, put you in the bath and fix up your hands.” Cloud gazed down at his right hand. It looked like shit. So did the one Zack was holding. His nails were torn all to hell and were caked with blood. He blinked his eyes. He was bleeding? He was actually bleeding! He had never bled in any of his other dreams. “Are you going to run?” Zack asked. Cloud slowly shook his head. He didn’t trust his voice. Was he lying? He didn’t know if he was. All he wanted was to get warm again. He was so cold, he could see his breath. “Okay then,” Zack said, carefully leading him by the hand out of the alley. “Zack?” Cloud asked. His voice was trembling. He couldn’t tell if it was from fear, the cold or if it was both. “Yeah,” Zack mumbled, turning his head to look back at him. “Did I…Did I hurt you?” Zack snorted. “Yeah…right…” Cloud looked away. “Zack?” “Huh?” He asked, continuing to lead him back to the inn. “I…I love you.” Zack froze in front of him and very slowly turned back around to look at him again this time. “What…What did you say?” “I…I never got to say it before,” Cloud said, rain washing his falling tears away. “I just…I want you to know.” Zack cocked his head to the side. The spiky, dark headed man looked so…looked so utterly happy. “You’re such a dummy,” Zack smiled, pulling on him. “Come on. All this crazy has made you even more delirious.” “I do,” Cloud said, holding his ground. He was like a mountain. None shall move him. “I really do love you.” He stepped forward, throwing his free arm around Zack’s neck, kissing him on the lips right there in the rainy street for just anyone to witness. He had to know if this half naked figment kissed just like his Zack could kiss. He wasn’t disappointed. Zack’s kiss was just as he remembered. Zack’s kiss caused his knees to buckle just the right way. Those skilled lips made him feel like warm golden hands were gently massaging a soothing balm onto and into his heart. “…That which was lost…shall be returned once more…Open your eyes, my heavenly Cloud and go to the one your heart sings eternally for…” Cloud gently pulled away from Zack’s lips with wonder painted all over his wet face and suddenly gave Zack’s right nipple a good twist. “SON-OF-A-CUNT!” Zack shrieked, letting go of Cloud’s hand, face crumpled in pain as he backed up a step, holding his abused tit. “What the fuck, Cloud?” “The same reaction as last time,” Cloud muttered under his breath, eyes like pinwheels. “Only all of this is a completely different situation.” “What the hell are you going on about?” Zack growled, tackling him, putting him in a headlock and digging his knuckles into the blonde’s head. “I’m going to teach you a lesson in manners. You don’t ever twist a man’s tit. You don’t ever twist your lover’s tit. Hell, you don’t twist anyone’s tit unless they’re trying to murder you.” “Zack!” Cloud cried and the larger man released him in shock. Those blazing blue eyes burned into him and cloud literally jumped him, throwing his arms and legs around him. The two boys went down with a loud thump. Cloud held and squeezed him so tight, nuzzling his cheek against his throat. “Cloud,” Zack wheezed in question. “What the hell? I can’t…breathe…” “Not this again,” a slightly amused voice chuckled from above them. “Isn’t there a law against this sort of deviance in public?” Cloud’s blood froze in his veins. He’d forgotten about Sephiroth. The bastard had just vanished. He turned his head around and glared up at him with poisonous blue eyes. “Well,” Sephiroth said. “If looks could kill…” “You would be dead and twitching under my heel,” Cloud hissed, getting off Zack, pulling the larger man to his feet with ease and stood in front of him. “Okay,” Sephiroth said, frowning ever so slightly. “I’m going to call in a doctor and have him or her look you over.” “Um, Cloud,” Zack said, putting a hand on his shoulder. “No talking crazy to the guy in charge. That’s a bad thing. He can make you go to your room and stay there for long periods of boredom.” Cloud ignored Zack. He didn’t take his eyes off the vibrant emerald eyed, silver haired demon. “I’m watching you.” Sephiroth blinked. “You do know you’re a little bit spooky, right, Cloud?” The blond cocked his head to the side like a mongoose spying a wary cobra. “You can walk in front of us.” Sephiroth looked at Zack. “Has he gone mad?” “There may be something in the liquor,” Zack said, shrugging his shoulders. “Maybe it was a wild batch they cooked up. Perhaps they made it with some Loco Weed. You know how locals like to prank guys like us. Big city people thinking we know best about everything and I’m not even big city people. Neither is Cloud. He’s actually from here. Maybe you should have taken off your helmet, huh? Let people see that pretty mug of yours.” Cloud kept his mouth shut. He still didn’t trust his voice or them for that matter. As of now, he was just going to play along. But, his heart was telling him all of this was real, but his brain wouldn’t let him believe it. Not really. Was this a second chance? Had that “man” sent him back to change things? If that was so… Something deep inside him cracked. It made the faintest little sound, but everything suddenly looked so clear, kind of like looking in a mirror that had been designed a little twisted. He was not about to tell them a damn thing about him knowing everything that was going to happen. He would just act like he’d been drugged by something local.
In fact, as of now, he was going to play his own game and kill Sephiroth the first chance he got and then he was going to take Shin-Ra down from the inside. They would never see it coming until it was too goddamn late to take a shit about it. He threw his head back and laughed out loud as the lightning crackled and thunder boomed over his spiky blond head. The rain began to fall even harder. Zack bit his bottom lip. “About that doctor…” “I’ll send in a request,” Sephiroth said, handing Zack a bottle of pills. “Come on, Cloud,” Zack said, taking him by the hand once more. “You can mimic Hojo later.” Cloud’s blue eyes flashed. Hojo, Hojo, Hojo, Hojo, Hojo, Hojo… You and your madness… So many images ran through his disturbed mind. That crack kept getting bigger and bigger, little by little. He was going to make that bitch-ass-whore squirm like a skinned slug on an extra salty hook. “All right,” Cloud said, apologizing for his bizarre behavior, hissing because the pain in his hands was finally catching up with him. “Cloud,” Sephiroth said from in the front. “I can feel your eyes burning through my spine. What did I do to upset you? Can I fix it?” “I’m really sorry, Sir,” Cloud found himself saying with believable and shocking ease. He actually sounded so goddamned sincere and real. He was sorry. He was sorry for speaking to Zack the way he had. “I may have drunk way too much and I’m really stressed. I guess being back here just made me snap. A lot of memories are here, Sir. Not all of them good.” He wasn’t lying. Not really. “Ah,” Sephiroth said with an understanding nod. “Well, when you begin to feel stressed, inform one of us. You’re part of the team and we want you to be able to perform your very best.” “Yes, Sir,” Cloud said, squeezing Zack’s hand. He was going to make this silver haired bastard pay. He was going to tie him down, tie his sissy hair into knots and then brush them out until the whore was sobbing like a five year old girl. “I’ll fix your hands,” Zack said, leading him back inside the inn. “And then I’ll give you a massage after your bath.” Cloud smiled. That would give him time to make plans. “I’ll see about getting us all some hot food,” Sephiroth said, wondering off. The innkeeper came up and Cloud quickly bowed to him in apology. “I’m really sorry about before, Sir. I have been under a large amount of stress, not that that’s an excuse or anything for my behavior, but…that dragon was really, really big.” Zack had beaten the shit out of it on the way here, too. Plus, it was an awesome story. It was sure to win the old man over. A young guy facing down monsters to help keep the populace safe was a hard job. Someone like him was allowed to crack ever once in a while and be understood. “So, I’m really sorry.” The innkeeper nodded his head, giving him a forgiving smile. Cloud bowed once more and then followed Zack up the steps. “I see you didn’t mention the vase you broke.” “Shut up, Zack.” He would hide it under Sephiroth’s bed when the general was out. ~To Be Continued… Please review and tell me what you think.
