Chapter 68: Fly, Fly, Fly
It was early the next morning. Cloud sat on the bed, fully dressed. He was alone, having been awake for hours. In a few moments, he would be heading out to confront Ultima Weapon for the final time. The creature had been a plague for a while, and it was time for it to stop. It would be decisive; at the end of the day, either he or Ultima Weapon would be dead.
Before he left, he went into the bathroom. The shower was running, and Aerith was inside. Cloud could make out her nude figure running her hands through her hair. He found it a beautiful sight, despite the fact the shower door obscured her breasts, butt, and private parts. Of course, he needed to put his mind on other things; namely, taking care of Ultima Weapon.
"I'm heading out," he announced.
"Don't be gone too long!" she called from the shower as she continued to wring her hair. "I'll miss you!"
"And if I'm not gone too long?" he asked.
"I'll miss you anyway," she replied.
Cloud scanned the bathroom. On the counter, he could see a bra and and pink shirt that read something on it; he could not tell what, as it was folded.
"What are you going to be doing while I'm gone?" he asked.
"Not a lot," she replied as she turned to face him through the glass. "Maybe cleaning, maybe watching a couple of chick flicks."
Cloud was silent.
"I'm a girl, Cloud!" she shouted over the running shower water as she folded her arms.
A moment later, the shower door opened slightly, and Aerith poked her drenched head out.
"Aren't you going to kiss me goodbye?" she asked.
They kissed before Cloud left the room.
Aerith then closed the door and resumed her shower.
"I love you!" he called as he reached the front door.
"I love you more!" she shouted from the bathroom.
MEANWHILE...
Sophie opened her eyes. As the world came into view, she realized that there was an empty space next to her in the bed. At first, she gave it no heed; he had seemingly retired to the guest room so her parents would not find out about the previous night. She was well aware that, if her parents did indeed find out, all hell would break loose.
Sophie climbed out of bed, and gasped; she had forgotten that she was naked. She had never slept in her natural state before in her life, and, slowly, she began to recall what had happened.
She had slept with the man with the silver hair. Sophie had been a virgin until the previous night. She always wondered what her first time would be like, but she had not expected it would be a stranger she knew nothing about. She then realized that she should have seen that coming; she had no friends, as she had not spoken to anyone outside her family in years.
Suddenly, Sophie began to hear the sound of footsteps. It was someone approaching her door. Beginning to panic, she quickly sprang to her dresser and rushed to put on her unused pajamas. The door opened just as she finished pulling her pants up.
At that moment, a familiar face appeared.
"You're up late," Anna said as she appeared in the doorway.
"What time is it?" Sophie asked, trying to seem as innocent as possible.
"Eleven," Anna replied. "You haven't slept this late any time in your life. What have you to say?"
Sophie decided to be up front and honest. "I need to relieve myself," she said.
She then darted past her mother and headed for the bathroom. After doing that, Sophie peeked into the guest room to find it empty.
She was surprised; she had simply expected him to creep away to the guest room to prevent her parents from finding out.
"He's gone," she said sadly.
"He's been gone," Buran added as he approached from behind, nearly causing Sophie to jump. "Since before I got up. He didn't even use the bed."
"When did he leave?" she asked.
"I dunno," Buran replied. "He was gone by the time I got up. I guess he left right after dinner. But given that there's arctic for miles in every direction, it's reasonable to assume that he is dead."
Sophie immediately began to cry.
"I'm sorry," Buran said. "Some people are just so far gone in the head that we just can't help them. We did the best we could."
Sophie was actually crying for a different reason. He had went back on his promise to take her away. She would remain trapped at the homestead.
SOMEWHERE ELSE...
The Highwind soared through the sky as Cloud resumed his search for Ultima Weapon. He was over the ocean, gazing at an endless field of blue. As the sea continued to perpetually display itself, he realized that it might be time to address his companion.
"Did you sleep well?" asked Cloud.
"Like I was dead," Vincent replied.
"You are dead," Cloud pointed out.
They continued to fly in silence for an interval of time. Finally, they perceived a familiar-looking island. There was an open spring in a town in the distance. It was the first time Cloud had seen the town, or rather what was left of it, since he had returned to himself.
As they approached Mideel, they found what they had been looking for, and what everybody else had made every effort to avoid. Ultima Weapon was hovering above the remains of Mideel's buildings, firing a beam at them.
"Yoo-hoo!" Cloud shouted. "Hey, fuckface!"
Ultima Weapon immediately turned to face the Highwind and began to charge.
Cloud nearly jumped; he had not expected the creature to be that alert and sentient.
"Try it!" Vincent insisted. "The Knights of the Round!"
"Okay!" Cloud agreed. "I'll need you to take the wheel."
"Look!" Vincent suddenly shouted.
Ultima weapon was closing fast; Cloud realized that there would be no time to switch to allow him to cast the spell.
Vincent thought quickly. Just when Ultima Weapon was five hundred feet away, he aimed the Death Penalty and fired, striking the creature in the hip. The flesh came off clean as Ultima Weapon let out a frightening roar. It then turned to the north and quickly flew off.
"It's fleeing," Vincent said. "It senses danger. It knows we're out to kill it."
"Where's it going?" demanded Cloud.
"North," Vincent replied. "Far to the north."
Cloud steered the Highwind north. He could see a speck in the background that appeared to be their target. He pursued it as fast as he could, but the Highwind could only go so fast without damaging the engines. Soon, the fields of blue were replaced by fields of green, and, upon passing Fort Condor, Cloud realized that they were on the Eastern Continent.
A few moments later, they were approaching the spot where Junon had once been. Right above the spot where the town square had stood, they could see Ultima Weapon bearing down on them.
"Long time, no see!" shouted Cloud sarcastically.
Ultima Weapon suddenly fired a beam from its mouth, directly striking the Highwind and causing it to jolt backward.
Cloud avoided falling by holding on to the controls; Vincent did not avoid falling at all.
Vincent did, however, manage to fire the Death Penalty, this time striking the creature in its "shoulder" and causing more flesh to fly.
Ultima Weapon promptly turned ninety degrees and flew off to the east.
"After it!" Vincent shouted.
"No shit!" Cloud exclaimed as he steered the Highwind to the east.
Continuing the pursuit, he could always see Ultima Weapon in the distance. Vincent kept the Death Penalty armed and ready to fire.
Finally, Ultima Weapon stopped again, and quickly turned around. But instead of aiming its face toward the Highwind, it aimed down below and began firing the beam.
As Cloud and Vincent looked down, they could both see what Ultima Weapon was firing upon: Midgar.
"Motherfucker!" Cloud shouted.
"Hold on," Vincent assured him. He then pointed the Death Penalty at Ultima Weapon's left "arm" and fired, causing the creature to howl in agony. The limb came off with the greatest of ease, falling to the ground.
Both Vincent and Cloud noticed the ground rumble. Vincent looked down to see a gaping hole in the city street where the arm had landed.
"Something tells me we might want to keep our distance when he dies," Vincent suggested.
"I'll keep that in mind," Cloud said.
Meanwhile, the wounded Ultima Weapon turned to the west and began to flee once more.
Cloud promptly steered the Highwind to the west. Soon, there were more fields of dark blue below the Highwind.
"Think he'll bleed out?" Cloud asked.
"We can't take the chance," Vincent replied. "We need to finish it off before it causes any more damage."
Soon, Cloud could see land once more, with Ultima Weapon in the distance. It did not seem to fly as fast as before, and whether this was because it was wounded, or because it was trying to lure Cloud into a final showdown, was impossible to tell.
Finally, the creature stopped, and turned to face Cloud and Vincent.
Vincent drew the Death Penalty as Cloud held the wheel. Neither could tell the exact location, but the terrain was similar to that near Cosmo Canyon.
Ultima Weapon bore down on the Highwind and opened its mouth.
"It's going to fire the beam at us," Vincent observed. "We need to destroy it now!"
"The Knights of the Round can't miss!" Cloud announced.
"Cast it!" Vincent shouted.
"I'll need you to take the wheel!" Cloud insisted.
Without saying anything, Vincent ran over to the wheel and grabbed it.
The now-free Cloud ran to face Ultima Weapon and raised the materia, which started to glow.
And then, there was a spectacular sight to behold.
What appeared to be a forcefield suddenly enveloped itself around Ultima Weapon. A moment later, the Knights of the Round began to arrive, one after another. Most of them attacked with spears or variants thereof. One knight attacked Ultima Weapon with a giant axe. Another attacked with meteorites. Finally, the largest one of all struck Ultima Weapon with a beam so bright and quick that neither Cloud nor Vincent could tell what it had attacked it with.
All in all, there were thirteen knights who each had their shot at Ultima Weapon. The forcefield then dissipated. When the dust settled, Cloud and Vincent laid eyes on a disappointing sight: Ultima Weapon was still alive.
"It didn't work?!" Cloud exclaimed.
"No," Vincent insisted. "It certainly worked. Look how weak it looks."
Ultima Weapon now had a red tint and moved in a lethargic manner. It did not seem to have any desire to attack.
"Cast Knights again," Vincent ordered. "Put it out of its misery."
"I can only cast this thing once every twenty-four hours!" Cloud protested.
"Take the wheel, then," Vincent commanded.
Cloud took the wheel as Vincent positioned himself to face his rival.
Vincent aimed the Death Penalty right between Ultima Weapon's eyes and pulled the trigger.
Ultima Weapon let out a screech before disappearing from view.
Vincent ran to the edge and looked over the railing.
Ultima Weapon was falling, faster and faster as it descended. There was no stopping it from its fate; the creature was doomed. Ultima Weapon hit the ground hard.
"We got it," Vincent announced.
Suddenly, there was a blinding orange light, accompanied by the sound of an explosion.
"What the hell was that?!" Cloud demanded.
Vincent looked over the railing again. A smoldering crater was all that remained. "He left a crater," he said.
"They blow up when they die?!" Cloud exclaimed.
"This one did," Vincent replied.
"Damn," muttered Cloud.
"How many is that?" asked Vincent.
"That's three," Cloud replied. "Just two more to go."
"What does that mean?" asked Vincent.
"Two more Weapons are still out there," Cloud said, in a somewhat troubled tone of voice.
"We took out that thing and you're not happy?" Vincent asked.
"It's not that," Cloud dismissed. "Knights of the Round didn't seem as deadly as I was hoping."
"What does that mean?" Vincent inquired.
"It means it might not be as much help taking care of Sephiroth as we thought..."
BACK AT THE VILLA...
Cloud entered the house to hear the sound of Jeri Lyons blasting through each and every room. He knew who the one person in the world who still listened to her was, but still gave a long "What-the-hell-is-going-on?" face.
A moment later, he spotted Aerith in the kitchen. She had a broom in both of her hands, and was half sweeping and half dancing while singing along, with her voice nearly as loud as Jeri's.
That was not what really captured Cloud's attention, though. She had her hair in a ponytail, and was wearing a pink baby shirt that read "Q-T WITH A BOO-T" on the front, but, aside from the equally pink heels she was wearing, she was naked from the waist down. He did not see that coming.
She continued to sweep and sing for a few moments before noticing Cloud. She turned to face him, blew him a kiss, and made her way to the table, picking up the remote and silencing the music.
"Sorry," she apologized. "I know that was loud."
She put the broom aside, walked over to Cloud, put her hands on his cheeks, and kissed him.
"Thanks for not taking too long!" she said with a smile as she took his hand and turned her back to him.
Cloud decided to ask the most obvious question as they began walking, her heels clicking loudly on the floor.
"Where are your pants?"
"Sun's out, buns out!" Aerith replied as she led him over to the window. "Seriously, I couldn't find a pair to match my shirt." As they stopped, she placed her right index finger on the nape of her boyfriend's neck and began to lovingly stroke it.
"Ultima Weapon's dead," Cloud began.
"Yay!" Aerith giggled as she playfully clapped her hands. "I was getting so bored around here!"
"And Vincent's back to stay," he added.
"Great," she said. "I was hoping someone would come around sooner or later. Does he know I'm still alive?"
Cloud nodded.
"I miss everyone," Aerith sighed.
"Did you miss me?" Cloud asked playfully.
"Don't I always?" she replied as she placed her hand on his shoulder. "But I miss our friends. They all deserved to know I'm still alive."
Cloud then placed a hand on Aerith's bare butt. "You feel warm like you are."
"Naughty," she replied before looking out the window. "I miss Tifa the most," she continued. "She was always fun to hang around. I just wish she would wear more."
Cloud became silent. He remembered Tifa was still out there. That situation would ultimately have to be settled. He knew Aerith would someday have to know that they were briefly a couple.
"She's such a beautiful girl," Aerith continued, "and she deserves someone. But that crop tank she always wears..." She then noticed Cloud's silence. "What's wrong, Cloud?" she asked.
"Nothing, really," he replied.
She placed her hand on his cheek. "I know you better than that," she said. Unaware of what he was really thinking, she came to a different conclusion. "It was what I said about Tifa, wasn't it? I'm sorry. That was a little mean. I know she's your best friend, and I respect that. It's just that she's such a nice girl and I don't know why she would show her belly button off for all to see. You dress like that for your boyfriend, not the world."
"And this is coming from a girl who's not wearing any pants?" he asked as he put his hand on her exposed butt again.
Aerith kissed him. "You're my boyfriend," she continued. "Which is why I'm walking around with my vagina hanging out right now. I wouldn't do that with just anybody."
Cloud decided that he needed to change the subject.
"Listen," he began. "The Knights of the Round..."
"Don't tell me it didn't work?" Aerith interrupted.
"It worked," Cloud said. "But not as well as I hoped. It hurt Ultima Weapon pretty badly, but it didn't kill it. Vincent had to shoot it."
His girlfriend briefly stared at the ceiling. "There is one other option," she then pointed out. "Quadra Magic."
"What's that?" he asked.
"It's another materia," Aerith replied. "As the name implies, it makes a spell repeat itself four times."
"You're saying there's a way to cast Knights four times in a row?" he asked in surprise.
"Exactly."
"Where is it?" Cloud naturally inquired.
"The Ancient Forest," she replied. "It's near Cosmo Canyon."
"How did you know about it?"
"My biological mother told me," she replied. "It is named after us, you know."
"Did you live there?" Cloud asked.
"My ancestors, you mean? Absolutely."
"And you never told me because...?"
"You never asked, silly," Aerith replied as she poked him.
"Good point," Cloud sighed.
"There are more treasures in the forest," she continued. "But they all have puzzles."
"Puzzles?" he asked.
"It's kind of hard to explain," she replied. "This forest is alive, just like the Sleeping Forest. Only it's the foliage that's the problem. You need to solve puzzles to get deeper into the forest."
The was a brief silence as the two lovers stared out the window. Then, Aerith took Cloud's hand and squeezed it.
"So you killed Ultima Weapon?"
""Vincent and I did." Cloud clarified.
"You really did that all just for me?" she asked as she turned to face him and placed her hands on his shoulders.
"I kind of missed having you along," he replied as he put his hands on her bare hips. "Plus, it broke my heart to see you suffer like that."
Aerith smiled. "There'll be no teasing today," she announced.
"Teasing?"
"Like when I took my top off as you left the other day," she said. "You really make me feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Cloud, I'm yours tonight. Any way you want me."
"Any way at all?" Cloud asked.
"Mmm-hmm!" she replied smiling.
"Okay," he agreed. "Right here and right now."
Aerith put her hand to her mouth and giggled. "Really? I was expecting some kinky guy stuff!"
"Maybe next time," Cloud said.
"I suppose you could go behind me and undo your zipper," she said with a seductive smile.
Cloud went behind his girlfriend, and undid his zipper. Deciding to try someting new and more interesting, he began to run his penis up and down Aerith's butt cleavage.
"Oooh, I like that," she whispered.
He continued at that for a few moments. Then, without warning, he slid into she wet vagina.
Aerith gasped in pleasure.
Cloud began to thrust in and out, gripping her bare hips as he did so.
"Oh, shit!" Aerith moaned as she felt her boyfriend deep inside her. She gripped the window sill in ecstacy.
Cloud continued to thrust into her, slightly picking up speed.
Aerith turned her head and looked lustfully at him.
"Kiss me!" she begged in the sexiest voice she was capable of making.
Cloud leaned forward and pressed his lips against hers, wrestling her tongue with his.
The feeling of her boyfriend kissing her with his penis inside sent Aerith over the edge, causing her to have a small orgasm.
"Aaaaaaggghhhh!" she moaned. "There's more. Go harder!"
Cloud thrust into her harder as she began to moan louder. He cupped her covered breasts through her shirt.
"I like the shirt you're wearing," he whispered.
"I'll wear it more often," she moaned.
"And I really like the pants you're wearing," Cloud continued.
"I'm not wearing any pants," Aerith moaned.
"How does it feel?"
"Oh, so good!" she wailed. "So free! Aaaaagggghhh!"
Both lovers climaxed at the same time, with Cloud squeezing her as he did so.
"Damn, you're an incredible boyfriend!" Aerith gasped as she caught her breath.
MEANWHILE...
Buran, Anna, Ralph, and Sophie sat at the kitchen table, making a meal out of a seal that Buran had caught during the day. Sophie had spent the morning cleaning in melancholy, but had more or less put the situation behind her once she had started cooking dinner. She had kept her composure as best she could that day; the last thing she wanted was to reveal her feelings for him.
After dinner, Sophie and Anna cleared the table. The family then spent the next hour playing poker. Just as Sophie was beginning to feel better about the situation, her little brother ruined everything.
"He has to be dead by now," Ralph said, referring to Sephiroth.
"That's why we have to listen," Anna said.
"I couldn't tell for the life of me how old he was," Buran added, "but, if I had to guess, he was probably some frat boy who fried his brain."
"He would have been a bad influence on the two of you," said Anna.
"I guess it was for the best," Sophie agreed.
Now, the wound was wide open. She wanted to go to her room and cry, but she knew that would give everything away. The hurt was so profound that Sophie began to feel a sharp pain in her stomach. A small tear escaped her left eye, but she quickly wiped it before anyone could notice.
As the game dragged slowly on, the pain in Sophie's abdomen began to worsen. Eventually, it became so bad that she wanted to retreat to the bedroom and curl up in the fetal position.
"I have to go," Sophie announced. "My stomach's hurting."
"Nice try," Buran dismissed. "You're the big blind, Sophie."
"Stop it!" snapped Anna. "You've been acting really funny ever since we had that guy over!"
"No, I really feel my stomach churning!" Sophie complained as she got up and pushed her chair in. "I really have to go!" She turned and began to head for the stairs. Then, she suddenly collapsed to the floor.
Buran and Anna rushed to her side.
"I just felt a big squeeze," Sophie complained.
"A big squeeze?!" Anna asked, with a troubled look on her face.
"Down there," she added.
Buran's face now became troubled.
"That was a contraction," Anna said.
"A what?!" Sophie exclaimed.
"It's what you get when you're ready to give birth," Anna informed her.
"I know what it is, but that's not possible!" Sophie protested. "I can't be pregnant!"
Buran's face suddenly turned red with anger.
"Did you have sex with him?!" he demanded.
"What?!"
"DID YOU HAVE SEX WITH HIM?" Buran shouted at the top of his lungs.
"Alright, I did!" Sophie confessed. The pain had become unbearable to the point that she no longer cared.
"Sophie!" Anna shouted.
"But even then, I can't be having a baby that fa...oooooohhhhhhhh!"
Sophie had another contraction, four times as intense and as painful as the first.
"Look at her stomach!" Ralph shouted from the table.
Buran looked to see his daughter's stomach beginning to swell.
"She's going to give birth any minute!" Anna cried. "I don't know how, but it's happening!"
Another, even more intense and painful contraction hit Sophie, causing her to cry out in pain.
Anna quickly positioned her daughter onto her hands and knees.
Buran quickly took a pair of scissors, cut through the sides of Sophie's jeans and panties, and tossed them aside.
"You could've just taken them off!" Sophie snapped.
Her stomach had now swollen to the size of any woman seconds away from motherhood.
"What the hell is happening?!" Buran shouted rhetorically.
Sophie suddenly felt an extreme pain in her lower half.
"I think this is it!" shouted Anna.
The pain was nothing like anything Sophie had ever experienced before; she felt as if she was splitting in half. She let out one more cry that no longer seemed human.
And then, she lost consciousness. She collapsed onto her side, laying still.
Buran grabbed Sophie's wrist to check for a pulse.
Ava began to cry.
Ralph simply gazed at his brand-new nephew
The hair was silver.
MEANWHILE...
Sephiroth tread the frozen terrain. The cold would not bother him; the avatar was made of Jenova cells that could withstand it. He felt no remorse at his actions. He was well aware of his projected fate; he needed to assure his survival.
It was an avatar that had visited the homestead. The genetics he had implanted in Sophie, however, were his own; he had manipulated the cells to carry them.
Sophie had served her purpose. He now needed to find his next victim.
He was heading south.
AT THE VILLA...
Cloud was sitting at the kitchen table. He was still relieved from having destroyed Ultima Weapon, but he knew there was a lot ahead. He would need to find the Quadra Magic in order to use Knights of the Round to its fullest extent. He would need to venture into the Ancient Forest tomorrow and retrieve it.
Aerith stood at the stove with her back turned to him, softly humming to herself. She was still bottomless, and was well aware Cloud could not stop looking.
She giggled. "You know, for a girl who's dead, I really can cook."
"Are you sure I can't help you?" Cloud asked.
"You can keep staring at my butt like you've been," she replied, turning her head to smile at him.
He quickly blushed.
"Don't be embarrassed!" she assured him. "I've always been told my butt's pretty nice, so why not show it off for the man I love?"
"I suppose," Cloud agreed.
"I'm just happy to care for my younger boyfriend."
"Cougar!" he snapped playfully.
"Necrophile!" Aerith playfully retorted.
An hour later, Cloud was sitting on the couch. Aerith was sitting next to him at a ninety degree angle, with her legs stretched towards the other end of the couch. He was busy massaging her lower legs and her feet.
"You look so content," he observed.
"Of course," she replied with a smile. "It's not everyday a girl gets a leg rub." She then kissed him.
Cloud smiled for a moment before his head drooped.
"I think it's time to crash," Aerith said. "You've had a long day."
With that, she got up off of the couch, and, giving him one last view of her bare backside, disappeared into the bedroom.
Cloud continued to sit on the couch for a moment. He realized that defeating Sephiroth would be much more difficult than it appeared. He certainly hoped that the Quadra Magic would help, but he also wondered whether finding it would be worth the trouble. In any event, he would know for sure by the next day.
Not wanting to crash on the couch, he stood up and walked into the bedroom. Aerith was standing by the bed when he entered the bedroom. She had changed into her white tank top and, to Cloud's curiosity, her pajama pants.
"Took you a while!" she observed. "I thought you might have zonked out on the couch!"
Cloud stripped to his boxers, and allowed his head to droop.
"You need to rest!" Aerith insisted as she walked over to Cloud and put her hand on his cheek. "Love you," she then said as she kissed him.
MEANWHILE...
A sole lantern was all that illuminated the frozen lake. It was eleven, meaning that the sun had been down for eight hours. A hole, a yard in diameter, had been drilled into the ice. A few feet away were four figures.
Sophie lay on a stretcher. She was still wearing her tank top, with a white sheet covering her lower half. Her eyes were closed, and her arms were at her side. All was still.
Her parents and her brother stood beside her. Anna was sobbing hysterically, as was Ralph. Buran, meanwhile, was completely silent.
Anna gently ran her hand over her daughter's face one last time. Her cheek was cold to touch.
The three of them gazed at the body for several minutes, each waiting for someone else to say something. But nobody did.
Finally, Buran gripped the stretcher and gave eye contact to his wife and son one last time. Both of them seemed to approve.
Before he could change his mind, Buran gave a forward shove. The stretcher, and its contents, disappeared forever into the hole below.
LATER...
Cloud had the dream again that night. He is in the tall meadow, surrounded by the sights of butterflies and the sounds of bumblebees. It was once again a beautiful, without the wind, nor even a cloud in the sky. The tall grass was there again, along with the flowers and reeds. Cloud was baffled; never in his life had he had the same dream twice.
The sad aura was there, as well. Cloud could not, for the life of him, understand why. There was nothing sad about this place; it was beautiful and peaceful. Yet his heart felt as if it was breaking.
Cloud then turned. He beheld the same path as before; the one that went straight for a few yards and then curved to the left. A shrub concealed what was beyond the curve. Perhaps it was whatever behind the shrub that would have the answer to the sad aura.
He took one step.
And that was when he woke up.
