Chapter 7.
Fujin stood with the other cadets that watched the sea drift past, everyone was still in awe about the moving garden.
Carry rested her elbows on the wall, head in her heads, and excitement in her eyes.
“Can we go now?” Fujin complained.
“No! Its fun, aren’t you enjoying yourself?”
Fujin sighed. What had she done to Hyne to deserve this? Being the only two single ones she was stuck there with Carry, the most annoying girl ever worse than Selphie at least she had an off switch.
The strange girl suddenly started jumping and down, her arms in the air.
“Look! It’s Zell! Hi Zell!”
Fujin turned to see the little blonde bounce up to them, Carry ran up to hug him.
“Hey guys, having fun?”
Carry stood in front of Fujin grinning. “Yep, this is great!”
The albino stared at the blonde shaking her head to answer to his question continuously. “HELP ME.” She mouthed over Carry’s head.
Zell coughed over his laughter. “Err- Carry how about we go and get some lunch huh? Give poor Fujin some air.”
His friend was about to response when another cadet pointed to the sea. “Look!”
“What the hell is that?!”
“Garden, it’s a garden! Galbadia garden!”
Fujin stared out at the sea. “What are they-?”
Light appeared in front of the other garden. “They’re charging weapons.”
“Get back!” Zell yelled, just before an explosion hit them in the quad, ripping up trees and part of the ground.
Several people had fallen to the ground but all seemed okay and were getting to their feet slowly in shock. Carry was helped up by Zell.
The speaker beeped and Cid’s voice filled the air waves.
“This is the headmaster, can Xu, Nida, Raijin, Fujin, Zell, Quistis, Carry, Selphie and Seifer come up to my office immediately!”
Fujin nodded. “Let’s go!”
~><~
They stood in a row in front of the headmaster’s desk. All six of them along with Xu, Nida and Quistis.
“G. Garden is being controlled by the sorceress.”
“Like Squall?” Selphie asked.
“Sort of yes,”
“Except he isn’t a building.” Fujin said with a roll of her red eyes.
“They landed behind the trees on the nearest continent.” The headmaster explained.
“It’s a trap.”
“Maybe but we’re going after them to retake control of that garden. You nine are the ones that I have chosen to attack their garden.” He paused, letting them whisper amongst themselves for a while. “You’ll split into teams of three, each with the same objective to get to the sorceress, kill her and take control of Galbadia garden.”
“Where will the sorceress be?” Selphie asked.
“In the top of the tallest tower?” Carrie suggested.
They all looked down the line to give her odd looks.
“What?”
“That’s damsels not evil ass sorceresses.” Seifer explained.
“Oh yeah.” She giggled.
Fujin rolled her eyes with a sigh.
“Here are your teams.” The headmaster continued. “Nida, Quistis and Selphie will be team one. Xu, Carrie and Raijin will be team two. The rest of you-” He looked around the room at the remaining people. “Will be team three.” He stood. “I wish you wish.”
Everyone saluted except Raijin and Seifer who weren’t Seeds. Seifer snorted. “Yeah, yeah.”
AS they walked out Quistis shook her head. “You should have more respect Seifer.”
“Why are you even here? You’re no Seed.” Xu complained.
“Don’t ask me, I didn’t volunteer for this shit.”
“The more the merrier.” Selphie cheered and Fujin gave the redhead a frosty glare.
They all got into the lift squeezing Xu out. “H-Hey!”
“You can wait for the next one.” Fujin told her as she pressed the button to shut the doors and left her there.
~
The groups went separate ways into the other garden, all undetected amidst the fighting between the two gardens.
Selphie wandered down a dormitory corridor glancing around. “Wow this place sure is big, imagine if we lived here.”
“It’d be great.” Quistis said.
“It’ll be terrible.” Nida said at the same time.
They both stared at each other. “What?!”
“How can you say that?” Quistis said. “Think of all the things we could do if we had all these resources.”
“Think of all the people living here, you’d never get any peace and quiet.”
Quistis shook her head. “Trust you to say something like that, all that time alone on the bridge has turned you into a hermit.”
“Just because I don’t appreciate a bunch of screaming kids does not make me a hermit!”
Selphie giggled at their exchange and walked on, wandering round a corner ahead of them. A dorm door was open so she wandered in, eyes wide as she looked round the larger dorm rooms.
“Ooh.” She cooed, looking around the larger living room area. She wandered into the bedroom at the back of the room. Maybe she could convince the headmaster to throw out the galbadians and steal their larger gardens and give them theirs, it would serve them right for attacked another garden and siding with the sorceress. She moved to sit on the bottom bunk bed.
“Freeze!”
She froze, eyes wide looking around.
A young man stepping up to her slowing, he held a pistol out pointing it at her.
She thrust her hands in the air. “Hey it’s okay I’m not the bad guy… or girl.”
The cadet inched forward. “Give me those.” He pointed to her weapon that hung from her belt.
“What? These?” She fingered them. “Actually I’m going to need these lat-”
“Now!” He cocked the gun.
She laughed nervously. “Okay fine whatever you say.” She handed it over to him.
The cadet snatched them and put him behind himself without taking his eyes of her.
“You know I wasn’t lying when I said we were the enemy.”
“You’re from Balamb right? The garden that attacked us.”
She frowned. “Attacked you? Maybe you should get your facts straight before you go around pointing guns at people.”
“You made us attack you.”
“We did? By just flying by and minding our own business?”
He waved the gun her. “Shut up!”
She raised her hands up higher again as she had lowered them a little while she had been talking to him.
Selphie?” The door opened slightly and the cadet with the gun spun round to aim at the door.
Nida looked in.
“Look out!” Selphie yelled, launching off the bed the second the gunman wasn’t looking at her. The cadet turned quickly back to her but she was too near and she ran straight into him. The gun went off into the ceiling. Selphie kicked it away towards Nida who grabbed it and took out the bullets. Selphie sat up just as Quistis looking it.
“What happened? I heard shots, is everyone okay?”
“Yeah.” The petite girl stood up and glanced at the roof. “Ceiling has a nice hole in it though.”
The cadet had curled into a ball on the floor sobbing.
Quistis eyed the crying boy. “Selphie what did you say to him?”
“Me? He was the one pointing a gun at me.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Huh?”
“I’M SORRY!” The prone boy on the floor yelled.
Nida threw the empty gun on the bed and pocketed the bullets. “We have to go, come on Selphie.”
The petite girl paused at the door. “You should stay here, lock the door and don’t go around pointing guns at people it’ll get you killed.”
The boy nodded.
~><~
“Wow.” Zell walked through the double doors and stared at the large ice hockey pitch in front of him.
“Why can’t we have this at our garden?”
“Because then we’d have to get rid of some of the useful things we have.” Fujin said, still standing in the doorway with her arms folded.
“Oh come on Fu live a little.” He said, running over to the pitch.
She sighed.
Seifer chuckled as he walked past her. “There’s a door over there.” He pointed. “We’ll pass through here, may as well have a little fun while we’re here.”
The albino frowned. “We’re not here for fun, we have a mission remember?”
The tall blonde raised an eyebrow. “Since when were you all dedicated?”
She frowned as Seifer disappeared into the locker room.
“Whoa!”
She smirked, watching Zell as he tried to walk on the ice. He wobbled and clung to the side of the pitch.
“Slippery.”
She rolled her eyes. “Of course it is its ice.”
Zell walked along, clinging to the side of pitch and Fujin walked beside him on the other side of barrier.
He lost his footing completely and fell to the ice. “Ahh! Cold.”
Fujin smirked as he failed again and again to get up.
Seifer exited the locker room and glided straight onto the ice and over to Zell. He skated round and around him with a smirk.
“Not fair! That’s cheating.” The little blonde whined.
“Where did you get those?” Fujin asked.
“From a locker.”
“You stole them?”
He shrugged. “It wasn’t locked they were practically asking to be taken.”
His friend rolled her eyes at him but still chuckled as poor Zell tried to catch Seifer who skated round and round him.
“Aww can’t the poor little chickie get up?”
“No! Don’t just stand there, help me!”
“Help you? Hmm let me think about it…. No!” He grinned.
“Sseeiiffeerrrr!” He whined, drawing out his lover’s name.
The taller man looked up at his albino friend. “You know I did see more pairs of skates in there Fu.”
The albino started to shake her head.
“Oh come on Fu, It’ll be fun.”
“Me! I’ll play!”
“Chickie you can’t even stand up.”
“Help me then asshole!”
Seifer pulled Zell up to his feet then threw him over his shoulder.
“Waah! What are you doing? Put me down now!”
“Okay.” Seifer relaxed his grip on Zell so that the blonde slid down his back and stopped with his head inches from the ice when Seifer grabbed him in time.
“AH! Seifer! Don’t you dare drop me or you’re never sharing my bed again!”
“Oh but it’s so tempting.” He grinned at Fujin who sniggered along too.
“Fujin! Help!”
“NO!”
“What’d you mean no? I’ll never speak to you again!”
“Won’t that be tragic?” She muttered.
Seifer chuckled and skated to the far side near the exit where he dumped him onto the ground.
“Ouch.” The blonde rubbed his head. “That hurt asshole!”
Seifer removed his skates and gave them a shove on the ice. He ruffled Zell’s hair. “Let’s go Chickie.”
~><~
Carrie glared at the figure standing on the balcony he had his back to her but she recognized him by the cowboy hat, the long trench coat and ponytail of hair.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
He jumped and spun round. “Hey Darlin’” He smiled. “Long time no-Ow.” He cried as she stepped up and slapped him.
“You have no right to call me that.”
“Ow!” He held his cheek.
Raijin and Xu approached. “You know this guy you know?”
“He’s an ex.” She told him without taking her eyes off the cowboy.
“And an asshole.”
Irvine looked Raijin up and down. “New boyfriend?”
“Friend.” She corrected.
“I didn’t think he was your type.”
Both Raijin and Carrie frowned. “What’s that mean you know?”
“How would you know what my type is?”
“You dated me remember?”
“Yeah and I deeply regret it.”
Irvine winced. “I’ve changed, I’m a new man, I’ve turned over a new leaf, started a new.”
Carrie raised an eyebrow in doubt.
“Really I can prove it to you, let me come with you.”
“Xu frowned. “You’re a Galbadian, you expect us to believe you would fight against your own people to help us.”
“You think we want the sorceress to turn us into mindless drones and take over our garden? We don’t want her here anymore than you do.”
The three exchanges looks.
“I can be useful, I know this place like the back of my hand, and I can be a guide.”
“Okay.” Xu agreed slowly. “But you stay ahead of me so I can keep an eye on you.”
The cowboy grinned. “Then let’s go, I’ll show you the way.”
~><~
Zell rounded a corner and ran straight into a wall of Raijin.
“Ahh!” He stumbled and fell on his ass.
“Sorry you know.”
Seifer laughed. “He probably didn’t see you down there Chickie?”
The little blonde gave his lover the finger.
“Zell!” Carrie ran up and hugged him on the floor.
Fujin grimaced at all the hugging, causing Seifer to smirk. “Don’t you want to hug me Fu?”
She rolled her eyes. “Can we get on with-” She paused, seeing Irvine for the first time. “Who’s he?”
The cowboy bowed dramatically at her feet. “Irvine Kinneas at you service.”
She shot an almost scared look at the others.
“What the hell is he doing here?” Zell yelled.
“He’s our guide.” Xu said.
“He’s a Galbadian, the enemy!”
“He did lead us here.”
“And where is here?”
The cowboy pointed to the lift. “Take the lift up to the auditorium, the sorceress awaits.”
Seifer frowned. “He’s not fighting with us, you can’t trust him.”
“Who says we can trust you?”
“Oh come on Xu, so you don’t like me I get it but I haven’t betrayed anybody yet and I’ve been at garden years, you know this guy five minutes and you trust him over me?!”
“Well we didn’t get lost did we? Unlike the other group I don’t see them here.”
Seifer stepped forward. “Let’s get this over with.”
The others followed him into the lift and up to the auditorium.
Their supposed lost group was already up there and fighting with Squall when they arrived.
“My group attack the sorceress.” Xu commanded.
Cured the other team and dragged them out of the danger, all of them having several status ailments.
Seifer and Fujin attacked Squall. Seifer and Squall gunblade to gunblade with Fujin supplying Seifer with auras, haste, protect and health. She gave Squall status ailments.
The taller gunblade raised his weapon to finish to weakened man when he stopped and his eyes rolled back in his head falling to the ground.
Seifer frowned. “Well that was an anti-climax.”
“Did you kill him?”
“No… at least I don’t think so.”
Selphie felt for a pulse. “He’s alive.” She announced.
“Good… I think is it good?” Zell asked. “Is he a good guy now?”
Fujin rolled the unconscious man onto his back and peered at him. “How do we tell if he’s free?”
“Umm- guys?” Carrie said getting their attention.
The sorceress sat slumped on the ground, she looked up with tears in her eyes.
“Do evil sorceresses cry?”
Quistis walked past them all. “Matron?” She asked.
“Quistis?”
“What the hell is going on?” Seifer muttered.
