The first night with them was more than awkward. Sephiroth sat awake for most of it, listening with no surprise as the occupants downstairs argued with Cloud——trying to convince him this was a stupid idea, telling him Vivi and Kuja were one thing, but a homicidal lunatic was another…. And in all of this muddle, the General himself didn't know what made him look at Kuja so attentively.
Even without that gorgeous hair, his flawless face was more so. High, soft cheekbones still resisted the smudgepot marks that circled his eyes and meandered down his face like dirt. His lips were slightly chapped from the dry air down here, but they were still too full and sweet to ignore. He cursed himself inwardly for even letting a day of this chaos touch that poor muddled head…Kuja had no idea where he was, and if they kept shouting down there, he'd wake up.
The bed sank with Sephiroth's weight as he sat and slid out of his jacket. Naked would endear him even less to the group, but his buckles and shoulder guards would pinch Kuja if he even dared to hold the delicate Genome. Those eyes crinkled at the corners with rousing perception; he'd already heard the arguing downstairs.
"…They're not yelling about you, Kuja."
The beauty shook his head. "I know. I'm trying to sleep, and in the whole of it I haven't gotten a wink…. I've been so nervous and angry. How dare they endanger Vivi. How dare they——I could slay the lot of them when they come down here…. But you are correct. It would only fuck us both over twice as hard."
Sephiroth nodded slowly. "Don't even think I'll let anything happen. Cloud's friends may not be very impressed with me bringing you here, but they're still losing the battle. Do you hear them down there?"
"Yes. I can't help but think I'm a burden."
The General's hand caught Kuja's where it shook. "Listen to me. You are not a burden. You've never been…What they don't want here is me." Sighing, he thought of how badly things would get if he didn't tell Kuja about their situation as it related to him, as well as how badly they could. Losing Kuja's trust was something he couldn't afford to do, but if he kept all of this from the man he was growing fond of, he'd certainly lose that and more.
"I need to tell you things about me…that may shock, anger, and possibly drive you away from me. But know this: I do it because I want you to know the truth. You told me about yourself——I suspect you thought I'd abandon you. But I hope you're in a listening mood…this may take some time."
Those beautiful hands closed over his. "I won't go anywhere."

"I'm going to tell him he's better off in Shinra Mansion. I'm sorry, Cloud, but given everything that could happen to them here, and how dangerous Sephiroth is even when he's calm, I can't recommend they stay in Seventh Heaven. We can keep the communicator lines open, and check on them, but…." Tifa stood watching Vivi sleep——this was unfair. A little boy was being sent off with Sephiroth and whoever his mother——or father——was. She didn't want to seem like a monster, but they were only going to endanger more people the longer they stayed….
"…don't want to worry them. If you think we should go, we'll go……."
Wait. Voices…at three in the morning. Tifa crept to the keyhole of the bedroom door, peering through.
Kuja and Sephiroth sat together on the bed. Neither of them were looking elsewhere——just at each other, while the younger man seemed to lament not only his miseries but theirs. "They may begin to remember all of it soon," Sephiroth said low. "They're not clones. And the way I'm passing energy around them, the way the Lifestream left all of this on me…." He shook his head. "I can't and won't expect you to forgive what I did. This temporal drift isn't anything happy for either of us…but if you're with me, you'll be in serious danger. So will Vivi. Any way I can get you home——" He leaned in, and was not rebuffed as he cupped that too-delicate face by the cheeks. "I promise you, Kuja…I'll get you both home, and get away from their lives before I ruin them. I'd rather be on Gaia……I can help you. I'll protect you. Something inside of me——I just——When I saw you…."
Oh my God. What is he doing…?
Their lips slowly touched——a kiss the General didn't look to know how to execute, and Kuja didn't want to refuse. The smaller man clung with everything he had to Sephiroth, and despite being strong enough to punch through that chest, those gloved hands wrapped securely around his back, just holding him.... Oh God. They really are doing this…Sephiroth's actually helping someone. It has to be from his former life——Being a hero never actually left him. But all the things Hojo did to him are gonna get worse if he leaves….
"He needs our help, Cloud," she whispered. "And Shinra Mansion will eat them both alive."
Footsteps moved down the hall. Someone had probably checked on them——he could guess whom, but didn't want to shock Kuja with anything. This place was entirely new and he needed comfort.
"You're overdressed," he whispered. "You've got to be roasting in all of that."
"What you said——," Kuja traced his fingers over Sephiroth's bare chest, "that was all of it, wasn't it? That was the truth…and everything you thought would take me away from you."
He barely nodded.
"We're not so different…. I'm like the Sephiroth of my own world. No one loved me, and even in my last act…I don't know if they ever forgave me. But I have to get Vivi out of here. If I can't make it, he has to get home…. I can't let him be hurt anymore. I can't let him suffer because of me…."
Sephiroth sombered at those words——the ache they brought reminded him of someone he'd tried to shelter. Zack had been far too trusting for his own good…and when Sephiroth's madness had overtaken him, he'd paid a terrible price. If he could've changed it——
«No, big guy, there's no way. If you'd done that, they couldn't have gotten through.»
His head lifted. Zackary? You're….
«Yeah. We passed them through the gateway to you——Aeris says there's something grim going on. And what it looks like….»
Is he from the past or the future? Answer me that!
«Oh, he's from the far future. Whoever faked the History of Planet didn't lie about the years. They just took it the wrong direction. But give Kuja the book…. Let him inspect everything about it. You don't know what all of it means…and he's never seen it. He's a mage, Seph, a goddamn genius. Hell, he knows about airships and technology that outstrips us…. Vivi is one of those things.»
So what do I do, now that I know where he's from? Is my chronology going to weaken his? Or the Lifestream barrier itself?
«No…but the person you can't kill is Hojo. You'll be erased. Hojo and Garland are both independent parties that have to remain unchanged. I know you don't like the thought of letting him live, of destroying the world with Mako reactors and tech, but think of this: Kuja is an evolved, sentient creature. In his world, there's a lot more of them. And if the Planet's not destroyed, it can't revive. The Lifestream won't bind another dimension. Terra won't exist……and Kuja won't either.»
"I have to keep them alive, Zackary. So I can't kill Hojo……and I can't let anything happen to Garland either…. I can't ruin Shinra…Damn. Nothing can be right here if it's going to be right there…."
«Nope, not in the way you're thinking. Aeris has something she's worried over——Garland went through the Lifestream. She has to find out how, why, and what it does to our world and theirs. Something ends up making all of this happen…that crusty old fart's grudge has to be explained before you two kids can fuck out of here.»
"I think I understand."
«Good. Because I'm out of here——and you definitely have one more thing to explain to Kuja. He heard your last few ramblings. G'night, Seph……Hey, find out what Mako actually does to the guy, willya?»
Zack faded——but what he left behind was untenable confusion. Soft hands plied him to look down, where those silvery brows were wrinkled in concern…Kuja had heard it. "I mutter sometimes," Sephiroth answered. "I'm sure you wonder why…. But you remember me speaking of Zack Fair."
"The friend you betrayed."
"Yes. When I ended up in the Lifestream, it seems the barriers faded…. I can hear him. It may happen again. But he thought further on something I didn't…you're not made of Mako. So we have to find out what it does to you before we can do anything else…. If there's a transformative state you can reach…a Safer, if you will…we can figure out how to get you home."
"That can come tomorrow," Kuja returned, sighing. "I'm so muddled I can't even think of anything. And you're more tightly wound than acronometer gears…. Come here. Finish what we've been dying for you to start again…You said yourself you had to do it."
"You're right." Sephiroth's lips pressed to his. "Let's hope they're not in an interrupting mood."
"I don't care," the Genome purred, a hint of forlorn emotions in his voice. The bed was hardly fitting for two people to sleep in, much less fuck——but Cloud had already started them on that long, strange trip, and the instincts Sephiroth couldn't ignore were only going to heavy themselves on him.
He slid his arms down Kuja's shoulders, unbuckling and setting aside the shoulder guards. "You've a lot of caprice for someone so young. But it doesn't interrupt with anything sensible until there's a risk to your own health…. When you were created…Kuja, were you an adult?"
"I was exactly the way I looked when you met me…. Less my clothes and arrogance. Six and some feet tall, precisely as feathery-furry…. The markings appeared after I furthered my own Mist poisoning. But, again…That can come later. When things are better…."
"Of course." He closed the distance, and Kuja's arms wound around his neck.
Their uniform trousers were a sorry thing to remove. Too tight at the crotch, and Kuja's in the ass, Sephiroth had to nearly break a few seams to manage even a button——while the lovely mage fiddled with the zipper on his, making bad problems worse. He eventually got the zipper down, freeing both cock and a few trapped inches…looked like this was the better way.
His fingers threaded through the straps of Kuja's codpiece, tugging a buckle free to undo it. That'd be the problem with his, he mused, he still hasn't taken that off. But I could understand why. The other strap tore free, leaving him apologetic in ways he hadn't meant to have to be. "I'm sorr——"
"Don't." Smooth fingertips traced over the length of him. "Don't bother…just pull it through the back…. I should've thought I could hide my tail down a trouser leg. I guess it was more of that caprice of mine…." Further abandon showed with those silky digits wrapping around his cock to tug it.
Sephiroth groaned——there hadn't been a better feeling thus far. However Kuja possessed people, he could easily see the allure; even without hair or a clean face, the Genome couldn't hide the raw sexuality that streamed from his frame. Those sweetly shapely hips moved from side to side as he tugged that little garment out, trousers sliding down enough to free Kuja's tail. Soft…downy…more like feathers than fur. And it wrapped around his wrist, rising with it to brush sensually over his cock.
"Ah——" He couldn't keep that smallest of sounds back. "Kuja…."
"You're hard everywhere…. Not just here. Your muscles. Your jawline…Even the glow of your eyes…. You're like some thrilling marble figure——like the antiquities in Garnet's palace, the ones that can't be measured by any kind of worth…." Kuja's words stopped when Sephiroth tugged those trousers to his hip line. Instead his face colored through the black, topaz-blue eyes limpid with desire. "Please. Don't let anything stop us this time…. I need you so much."
"I'd rather castrate myself than let one more problem shut this down." Including those trousers. He grabbed and pulled——and they ripped in half. Kuja's shocked cry barely escaped before the General's body crushed him into the bed.
No stopping. Not a chance. Don't care who's at the door. We're going to finish this before I go even crazier…. He tugged the shirt over Kuja's chest, behind his head, trapping his lover's arms with it——not that Kuja cared. Those eyes almost seemed to flame with glee. "We may not have time for everything," he murmured, "but I'm going to make sure I don't hurt you."
"Nnh——" What could've been an impassioned moan cut off behind Kuja's teeth on his lower lip. He arched up without a word, suppliant, as Sephiroth found the only thing in his brief supplies that'd work. "Is that oil?"
"Olive. From what I've heard it's inert to the body…But I'll have to use the rest of it. You don't really have any clue what you're in for." Those fingers and that tail did, though. Something about the look in Kuja's eyes told him he wasn't too concerned, that he could take whatever the General dished out. "Do your best to keep quiet."
"They woke me up," Kuja returned archly. "If they can think of that one, they can expect this." But the smirk on his face told Sephiroth he'd try…only as much as he wanted to.
He had to agree with the laughter that threatened to brim up. They really had asked for this one.
