I lay awake, waiting, wondering when he’d return to me. I was silently staring at the ceiling for most of the time, thinking about what I’d do when he finally arrived. I turned on to my side and listened for any sounds of movement. I heard nothing; nothing but the wind whistling through the trees outside, the sound of the clock quietly ticking on the wall…the sound of my heart pounding nervously against my chest. I was becoming impatient. I’d never had to wait for him before. He’d always just… shown up unexpectedly. It was never at the same time, nor usually in the same place. He was unpredictable, and I suppose that’s what made him exciting.
I began running over the possibilities in my head. Maybe he won’t come back. Maybe he never came in the first place. I’d convinced myself that he wasn’t real, that he was just an image my mind had subconsciously created to help relieve my stress and frustration. But thinking things over, he just had to be. No dreams, however influenced by stress or alcohol could be THAT realistic. I could understand the reason for his creation. I was missing passion in my life. The females I’d previously committed myself to hadn’t fulfilled my desires or my needs. They lacked what I wanted and didn’t give me the satisfaction I craved. But he somehow did. Maybe my expectations were too high, or maybe I was just going for the wrong sort of woman. Maybe it was all of those things. I usually went for beauty and prestige. Call me shallow, but I liked my women to be things of splendour, things I wouldn’t bore of viewing. That’s probably why my secretary was still around. She may be hyperactive and a complete nuisance at times, but she a great set of tits to make up for it. But what made him so special? I’d never even seen his face. He could be a hideous gargoyle for all I knew. So why was I so nervous? I suppose at the time, I didn’t mind the fact I was blinded to his appearance. I could place whatever face I desired on that head of luscious hair. And the fact that I couldn’t see him, made the situation easier for me to accept. I didn’t want to admit it. I’d been denying it to myself… to the fact that this person I was dreaming about, fantasizing about in fact, was actually a man, and that scared the shit out of me.
My eyelids were heavy, closing over my irises involuntarily while my mind willed them to stay wide. I’d tried to keep myself awake until he arrived. I needed to see him. I needed to know who he was. I collapsed back onto the bed. This was so frustrating. I was shattered and desperate for sleep. But I wouldn’t allow myself to, not until I met with him again. I leaned over the bed and checked the digital clock display. It was early…very early. I had to be up for work in a few hours. I punched the pillow angrily. Damn him. I hadn’t touched a drop of alcohol in preparation for this. I had to prove to myself that it wasn’t my mind playing tricks on me. On every encounter we’d shared, I’d been heavily influenced by some sort of alcoholic substance. And that was the ONLY reason these ‘experiences’ had been allowed to progress this far.
I bolted upright when the door suddenly shifted opened; the hinges creaked noisily in the darkened stillness. Was he here? I waited patiently; my fingers gripped the quilt covers in anticipation. I sighed disappointedly when Darknation entered the unlit room and sat by my side next to the bed. Stupid beast. I leaned over and ruffled her ears. I don’t suppose you’ve met with anyone suspicious stalking the corridors have you? It was hard to imagine. If an intruder had been entering the house at night, Darknation would have defended me until death. It made no sense. How could he have entered the house without alarming either her or myself? Maybe it was just my imagination, maybe it was just my alcohol inspired fantasy. She nuzzled my hand with her nose then sloped off back into the darkness from which she came; off to patrol the rest of the generously proportioned house. At least I knew I can count on her. She was the only female in my life that meant anything to me and one of the only ones I could trust.
I fell back against the mattress and yawned, I was so tired. I didn’t think I could stay awake for much longer. Would it be so bad if he didn’t come back? It might make things easier, a hell of a lot easier. But would I really miss him? NO. No way. Not if my assumption was correct. If it was, then missing him wasn’t an option.

The next thing I remember feeling was fingers twisting through my hair. I forced my eyes to open and squinted in the darkness, I hadn’t managed to keep myself awake after all. The fingers played delicately with my golden strands and combed them back away from my eyes. Oh, so he finally came then, did he?
I smiled up at him; my tired eyes half hooded with fatigue stared innocently as he leaned over and lightly kissed my forehead. His head lifted and fingers ran down the side of my face, gently passing over my lips; tracing the slight smile they now displayed.
“I’ve been waiting for you.” I whispered softly. He replied by gracing my lips with his. He ran his hand smoothly down my body, while mine slid leisurely across the mattress and under the pillow. He climbed on top of me while our lips were still locked and we continued our passionate gesture. His tongue was so soothing and devoted, softly stroking mine with affection as he plunged it deeper inside. He stopped suddenly, and slowly withdrew from my mouth. My hand had emerged from beneath the pillow and was now pressing the barrels of my shotgun against his temple.
“How are the ribs today?” I smirked, keeping a steady grip of my gun. “Come now, we’re not being intimate at this point. So you’re entitled to use your voice.”
He stayed completely still, holding his breath, waiting cautiously for my next action.
“It is you, isn’t it? It’s so fucking obvious.” I pressed the cold metal tubes further into his head as I spoke “How could I have been so fucking stupid? The times, the places, the secrecy, the sudden change in behaviour…it all makes sense. Aren’t you even going to say something? Aren’t you even going to try and explain yourself?”
His silence remained and I became impatient. “ANSWER ME!”
He continued his voiceless subdue, not even flinching as my gun barrels dug deeper into his skin; so forcefully they probably left two red rings on the side of his head. I was just about to demand an explanation when he swiftly grabbed my wrist and forced it down onto the mattress. Wrestling the gun from my hand, he threw it across the floor and rolled me over on to my front. Pinning me down with his weight, he kneeled on my back. “GET THE HELL OFF OF ME!” I snarled, struggling feebly under his force. He chuckled softly from above and leaned over me, kissing the back of my neck teasingly before releasing me from his weighted frame. I span around instantly, jerking my head from one direction to the other. WHERE IS HE? I heard hurried footsteps coming from outside the room so I slid off the bed, lunged for my gun and pursued.
I fell back against the wall and listened. Silence. He couldn’t have gotten far. I looked over my shoulder and watched as Darknation emerged from the shadows. I knelt down and greeted her. “We have an intruder in the house, Darkie. It’s been a long time since you went hunting. If you find him, make sure to welcome him properly. But don’t hurt him too much, leave that luxury for me.” She grunted softly as my hand left her head and she melted back into the darkness from which she surfaced. If I don’t get to him, then she definitely will.
I made my way stealthily down the stairs, my gun resting on my shoulder. I took each step precisely; making sure to make as little noise as possible. Come on now, Tseng. It’s rude to leave without saying goodbye. I poked my head around the corner to check for any signs of presence. But all was still. My back was pressed against the wall and I slowly crept down the darkened corridor, breathing slowly as not to reveal my position. I had the advantage here. He was on my turf now.
Reaching the end of the corridor without avail, I stepped away from the wall and reached my hand out to grasp the door handle in front of me. He’s fast, I’ll give him that. I quickly looked over my shoulder and drew my gun. Swinging myself around, I aimed at the emptiness down the darkened passage. Funny, I could have sworn I heard something. I shrugged and turned my attention back to the door ahead of me. Just as my fingertips touched the cold brass handle, I was suddenly seized from behind and slammed up against the wall face first. The hand holding my gun was grabbed once more and repeatedly slammed against the wall until my grip was lost. The handle left my fingers and my weapon dropped by my feet. He then span me around to face him, passing his lower arm over my neck and pinning me in place. I coughed at the force he was applying.
“Impressive, you even managed to sneak up on me undetected. Well, I’d expect nothing less from the leader of the Turks.”
He sniggered and pressed his chest forcefully against mine, making movement of any sort impossible.
“So, what now?” I questioned curiously. He had me trapped, unarmed and completely immobilized. He could do whatever he wanted to me at this point. It’d be interesting to see what he did.
He chuckled softly to himself again, taking in the sight of me powerless and at his complete mercy. He leaned in closer and met my lips, trying to pick up from where we left off upstairs. I thrashed my head about forcefully; my tongue retreated to the back of my mouth away from his. He gently brushed past it, trying to tempt it back out, so he could play with it again. I pulled it back; so far back I swear I nearly swallowed it. His lips were suddenly ripped away from mine as Darknation pounced and knocked him to the ground. I swiped for my gun as it lay by my feet and trailed it over the struggling duo on the floor. It was too dark. I couldn’t get a clear shot. I didn’t want to hit Darknation. I ran the length of the corridor and slammed my palm over the light switch at the end, spinning round with my gun aimed high. I saw Darknation on her hind legs, tentacle thrashing, leaning against the wooden frame and snarling through the open window her prey had just escaped through. I slowly walked back down and stood at her side. My head peeked outside. I looked down the long drop to the garden, at least thirty feet; he could have jumped, or, he could have climbed? I looked in either direction, watching the walls, but saw nothing. I pulled myself back inside and closed the window with force, resting my gun back against my shoulder.
“Come, Darknation. He won’t be stupid enough to try that again.” I whistled for her to follow and she did, stalking protectively by my side.
After re-entering the bedroom I settled into bed. She jumped up on to the mattress with me and placed her head over my legs. If he did come back again tonight, Darknation would rip him to pieces.
