Pairing: VxC, SxC
Rating: NC-17 overall, this chap PG
Warnings: Post AC, fluff, angst, sex

Notes: I know it’s WAY overdue, but life got in the way.
A/N: I’m so sorry that it’s late, and I appreciate you readers sticking with
me! I got a new job about a month
ago and they have been working me into my grave. Also, I went up to a cabin and
got in an accident on my dirt bike and was maimed by a Cactaur. Then my cat had
KITTENS! ^_^ So cute!
I had a mental jam
on this chapter, and every time I was in my writing groove, something would
come up and totally ruin it. So, I spent some time working out the ending. I
have a good solid ending, and all I have to do now is guide the story to it!

“I thought you didn’t get along with the
Turks,” Sephiroth growled.
“You save the world, and they lighten up a
bit. Besides, I can trust Reno
to not screw up too badly.”
“Using his crush on you to your advantage?”
It was more of a statement than a question.
“What kind of clothes did you want?” Cloud
snipped, changing the subject.
Sephiroth did not deem the question worthy of
a response, and instead groaned and practically fell onto the couch.
Cloud sighed and stepped outside to wait for Reno. He deftly scaled
the lone tree on the property and perched on one of the thick lower branches.
The fact that a tree grew just outside Midgar
had been slightly unnerving when they first bought the property. The soil in
the area was somehow able to sustain grass and flowers as well. Vincent had
been touchy about the subject, wondering why no one else had purchased the
area, but nowadays, it seemed that the wastelands were rapidly disappearing.
Meanwhile, monsters’ numbers increased exponentially, taking over the
broadening terrain.
Terrain
can’t be the only reason for monsters though. There has to be something feeding
them. Cloud looked up when he heard the slight
rumble of an engine, seeing a black Shin Ra Company car approaching.
“Despite apocalypses and monsters, the
Shinra’s still have power and money,” He mumbled to no one in particular, as he
leapt from the tree.
The car stopped on the gravel path a
respectable distance from any of the plants. Cloud smirked at this. Apparently Reno remembered the last
beating he received.
“Yo!” Reno called casually
slipping out of the vehicle.
“Hey.” Cloud responded.
“What’s this favor you needed?”
“You can’t tell anyone.”
“We discussed this.”
“I know, but it’s just kind of important.”
“Alright, I swear I won’t say a word! Happy now?”
“Not really, follow me.”
Cloud led Reno
to the front door and opened it a crack gesturing for Reno to look in. Reno, never one to deny his curiosity, peered
in and saw a mass of silver hair and black cloth on the couch.
“HOLY SH--” Cloud slapped his hand over Reno’s mouth, and shut
the door before releasing the redhead.
“You get to baby sit him,” Cloud stated with
false sweetness.
“He’s supposed to be dead!”
“Yes, for the fourth, or was it fifth, time,”
Cloud spat sarcastically. “He’s got a touch of Mako poisoning from his stay in
the lifestream. I need to go into the city and pick up some things for him, and
I need YOU,” Cloud stressed by pointing at Reno, “to make sure he doesn’t kill anything,
or die or go insane.”
“You make it sound so simple.” Reno chided. “What do I
do if he goes berserk?”
“Run away, and give me a call, most likely in
that order.”
“Oh yeah, that inspires confidence! And what
do I get out of this?”
“I told you, anything.”
“I need one date,” Reno dictated holding up a finger for emphasis.
“I doubt Vincent would be---”
“Listen to me!” Reno snapped, looking like a five year old
about to throw a tantrum. “One date, for Rude… With Tifa.”
“What the… HOW am I
supposed to arrange that?!” Cloud sputtered.
“You said anything!” Reno stated in a matter of fact tone. “You
shouldn’t make promises if you can’t keep them.”
“Fine, I’ll see what I can do,” Cloud
grumbled.
“Good,” Reno
declared with a nod. “Oh and I almost forgot…” Reno trailed off as he dug
through the backseat of the car and pulled out a large box with tiny holes in
it, “Happy birthday! And yes I know it’s a day late.”
Reno unceremoniously shoved
the box into Cloud’s arms and strolled into the house while Cloud staggered in
behind him.
“What’s in the box?” Sephiroth mumbled, completely
ignoring Reno’s
presence.
“Nice to see you too,” Reno growled. “Open the box Cloud!”
Cloud lifted the lid carefully before a
streak of yellow shot out and across the room with a “WARK!” Shadow hissed and
slipped between Sephiroth and the couch as the chick shuffled toward her.
“You got me a chocobo…” Cloud sighed.
“Yup.”
“Why? You know Vincent isn’t exactly fond of
pets.”
“That’s why I got it.”
“You want to die don’t you?”
“Eventually,” Reno responded with a shrug. “It was just too
cute to pass up.”
“I don’t want to know. Just stay here, do
your job and I’ll be back in a while,” Cloud groaned and snatched Reno’s keys. “And I’m
borrowing your car.”
“You’re leaving me here with this imbecile?”
Sephiroth queried.
“Hey!” Reno
squawked.
“Yes. You are going to stay here with him.”
Sephiroth replied by twitching for a moment
and then flipping onto his side facing away from everyone, while Reno rubbed his hands
together in manic glee.
Cloud’s eye twitched a little at the scene,
but he chose to ignore it. “Make sure the bird doesn’t destroy anything,” he
sighed, “and try not to kill each other!”
Reno listened to the car as
it drove away before flopping into the armchair next to the couch.
“So, why did they bring you back to life?” He
queried.
Sephiroth glared at him over his shoulder and
shrugged.
“Well are you at least happy about it?”
“I’m half dead and listening to you babble.”
“Hey! Now we’re getting somewhere!” Reno
cheered and then faltered, “What’s wrong with my babbling? Maybe I’ve got a lot
to say!”
Sephiroth twitched again, “The only thing you
have a lot to say about is your sex life. I’m assuming your habits haven’t
changed.”
“That’s just mean!” Reno pouted, “And maybe I HAVE changed.”
The ex-General ignored him again in favor of
petting Shadow, who was still hiding from the feathered menace that was peering
over one end of the couch.
“Fine. Don’t talk to me. Just remember, the
cat can’t cook for you!”
Sephiroth perked a bit at this. “You can
cook?” he asked doubtfully.
“Why yes, but I don’t think I should cook you
anything. I should just make you miserable for the next five hours.”
“Five hours? It takes five hours to go
shopping?”
“No, it takes one hour to shop, but four
hours to convince Tifa to go on a date with Rude.”
“If that’s the case, we shall never see Cloud
again.”
“Rude’s not THAT bad! Besides, Cloud promised
to give me anything as long as I watch you.”
“With your reputation, I’m surprised that’s
all you asked for.”
“Back to that again? Look contrary to popular
belief, even I have standards. And while I find Cloud unreasonably attractive,
I don’t want Vinnie using my ass for target
practice.”
“Are you going to make lunch?” The boredom
was clear in Sephiroth’s tone.
Reno’s eyebrow twitched, “Fine oh great one!
Is there anything else I can do for you?”
“It would be nice to know what has happened
in the past few years.”
“Well, meteor pretty much destroyed Midgar,
but nothing else. Shin Ra lost all of it’s political
power, and left the people to rebuild the city.” Reno called from the kitchen as he shuffled
through cupboards, “Needless to say that didn’t do so well, and Shin Ra has
recently gained power once again. Apparently the people hate Shin Ra having so
much power, but they are absolutely worthless without some sort of figurehead
to govern their lives. Anarchy can’t last forever, y’know?
So, Shin Ra has been making money by taking over smaller companies that harvest
alternate power sources.”
“So Midgar is still powerless without Shin
Ra?”
“Literally and figuratively,” Reno chuckled as he
opened the freezer. “HOLY SHIT! They have ICE CREAM! Little bastard was holding
out on us!” Reno
triumphantly removed the carton from its icy holding cell and grabbed two
spoons.
He flopped again into the chair, placed the
carton on the table, and threw a spoon to Sephiroth.
Sephiroth stared at it distrustfully. “Should
I really even eat this?”
“Sure. It’s simple, requires no effort or
chewing, and doesn’t taste as bad if it decides to come back up.” Reno cheerfully asserted.
Sephiroth paled a little at that but scraped
out a spoonful none the less.
“Anyway, what else do you want to know?”
“I still don’t know what AVALANCHE has been
doing the past few years.”
“Not too much to tell there. They all went
their separate ways after Meteor. Cloud stayed with some orphans, while Tifa
rebuilt her bar. She was in a snit because Cloud never stuck around for long.
He kind of left her to take care of Marlene and Denzel. Neither of which are
his, by the way,” Reno
added hastily when he saw Sephiroth’s hand tighten on the poor spoon the former
General was holding. “Anyway, after the incident with Kadaj and his brothers, everyone
in AVALANCHE made more of an effort to keep in touch. They all celebrated
Cloud’s birthday the other day.”
“You seem to know quite a bit, for a former
enemy.”
“It’s part of my job to know what people who
oppose Shin Ra are up to.”
“You also avoided telling me anything about
Cloud’s relationship with Valentine.”
“I wasn’t sure you wanted to know. I’ll only tell
you a brief overview. If you want details, ask them for yourself.”
Sephiroth nodded and Reno continued. “I know they had some sort of
relationship when AVALANCHE was trying to stop Meteor, but afterwards Vincent
disappeared. We later found out he was observing Kadaj and the others at the
forgotten capital. As I said, after the Kadaj incident AVALANCHE stayed in
touch, but Vincent still had a habit of disappearing. Anyway, they got together
about a year ago, and now they live here. Vincent runs a gun smithy in Midgar,
and Cloud still has his delivery service, although he also hunts monsters
sometimes, so I guess he’s still a bit of a mercenary.”
“You know, I think you sound like a stalker.
You can’t be reporting everything you observe to Shin Ra.”
“Well, you’re somewhat right there; about the
reporting anyway, not the stalking. I observe them so much because Rufus has
been trying to get Cloud to rejoin Shin Ra for ages; mostly for security and
military purposes, but you never know.”
“Whatever Shin Ra tells you is just the tip
of the ice berg. You always wonder what they have planned.”
“Even I’m not privy to that information,” Reno admitted with a
shrug.
“I always had you figured for an idiot, but
you’re truly a genius under the mask.”
“I’m glad someone agrees.”
Sephiroth glanced suspiciously at the end of
the couch, where the chocobo chick sat in near silence. It stared back with
bright blue eyes before letting out a “Kweh!” and
jumping up onto the couch to nest in the blanket at Sephiroth’s feet. “Why
won’t you animals just leave me alone?” he growled.
Reno chuckled, and was
immediately silenced by a warning glare from the silver haired man.
“So…” Reno
mumbled, “Just four and a half hours to go...”
Sephiroth turned over and groaned into a
pillow.
A/N: Yes, I think Reno
could be smart…
