Author's
notes: This is my first time writing a fiction in English. Be kind
enough to nitpick my grammar, my literary style, my plot, or whatever
you could. I'm aware of myself having a strange interpretation of
the original story and all the things behind that motivated Ultimecia
and Seifer—the latter will be part of the story later. And
lastly, I couldn't find any information of what year FF8 was set in,
thus I randomly set the number myself. Oh, and I hope your enjoying
the story!

The story, plot, and some minor characters are mine. The rest are
Squaresoft's and I'm only borrowing them. Do I wish to own Zell and
Seifer and cuddle them up every night.
At
nowhere about time compression Seifer had been walking ceaselessly
for the longest time. There was no sign to indicate where or when or
whether he will quit this world and return to his supposed world that
he had now been longing for more than ever before. He was not even
sure whether to regret what he had done to the real world he once was
part of or to glory at how strong his faith was. He felt hopeless.
“Seifer!”
He
looked behind him half hoping that someone had actually called his
name and would chase him, but only ended up shrugging in despair. He
then continued walking toward what he assumed as the front. He
sighed; for there his mind stuck; his eyes fixed, and tears slowly
filled them. The entire view quivered; and he had the illusion of
Zell running cheerfully toward him. “Illusions are awful
things,” he shrugged his mind off while wiping the tears from
his face.
He
had not cried for a very long time; he believed he had not cried ever
since he was a young kid. Even now he was still trying to regain his
composure and stop his hiccup. It did not work. His weeping only
became even worse.
“Seifer!”
He
looked behind him again; he was now sure someone had actually called
his name as the sound was clear. Yet before he could affirm the
matter he was already absorbed into darkness. The darkness gradually
subsided; his eyes froze; the waterscape emerged to spark like fire;
the meadow stretched out like a multicolored carpet; and the white
clouds gracefully faded in.
“Could
this be heaven?” he wondered. “I can't be in heaven for
what I've done!”
Seifer
was in a beautiful place now, so beautiful that he could not be sure
if it was the world he knew. “This is a really beautiful place
or had I just always been too oblivious of how beautiful earth was,”
thought Seifer.
His
eyes fixed at the clear stream of water that flowed at a moderate
velocity; then he walked toward it, squatted at the border, and
immediately scooped up as much water as he could and drank it
ravenously. The feeling was tremendous; every cell in his body was
excited at every bit of water that ran through his throat down to his
tummy thoroughly until the sensation subsided; then he sighed deeply
in relief.
He
looked at his reflection on the water. Despite he was soiled and his
clothes were ragged after all he had gone through as Ultimecia's
knight, he was a sublime figure; the firm contours and bright light,
and probably also the scar, lent his face a statuesque quality, as
well as his body.
He
looked around to see if anyone was near. No one was. He took off
his severely damaged trench coat, which had been like that for a long
while and he had not had a chance to mend it; then he also took his
other clothes off and simply left them on the ground with his
infamous Hyperion; and into the river he jumped off.
Leaning
against the slope of the river, he began humming his favourite tune:
Julia. No one would believe that Seifer actually liked such a
ballad, let alone those who had dealt with him in the past. The
stream showed that animation, like something alive, joyous, yet
restful, uncompromisingly absorbing everyone into its flow.
Then
all of the sudden something huge appeared before him, vertically
falling from wherever it appeared, and plunged deep into of the
water. Seifer was surprised. In front of him a guy was struggling
to gain balance and control and to rise and breathe. He immediately
pulled the guy back and made him face his saviour. Seifer grinned.
“Seifer!”
cried the guy, completely surprised.
“That's
me. And welcome back, Zell.” Seifer said, simply, and who
shall deny that this simplicity of answer, when combined with an
intense smile, although smug, which was humourous—who shall
deny that in these respects Seifer is nicer than any other Final
Fantasy 8 characters?
Zell
was at once surprised at the warm welcome he received, extremely
happy because he had at last left the world of nothingness and
returned to the real world, and discomposed by the bareness of the
man before him. “So... we're back in the right world?”
“Maybe.
I just arrived not long before you and haven't checked that out.”
Seifer let go of Zell's arm. Turning his head backward, he said,
“That path should lead to some rural area.”
Before
Zell could say anything further a sudden scream pierced the air from
the direction beyond the path, followed by a series of explosion
sounds and harsh lights, and a vision of two Guardian Forces fighting
about the sky.
“Shiva
and Ifrit,” Zell murmured. “I'm going there now.”
“Be
careful,” Seifer nodded. “I'll dress first; then I'll
catch up with you.”
Zell
nodded; then casted Float on himself; then flew towards the two GF's,
all so vigorously that Seifer had to believe that Zell might actually
suit a hero role if his hair were not that funny, his clothes were
sturdier, and he were not that hyper.
Seifer
hurriedly dressed himself up, not caring about being all drenched and
wetting the clothes; then he also casted Float on himself and flew
toward Zell.
To
Seifer's surprise, Ifrit and Shiva seemed to be teaming up against
Zell. Ifrit was on the left of Zell while Shiva was in front of.
Shiva raised her hand to summon sharp javelins of ice and hurled them
at Zell—just like Edea's Ice Strike. Zell, of course, dodged
them. Immediately Ifrit summoned a huge fireball and threw it at
Zell. Then instead of dodging further from the GF's, he jumped
promptly to in front of Shiva, blew a consecutive series of punches
at her, and jumped behind. A huge fireball was heading towards Shiva
while she was unguarded. Zell quickly grabbed her body and jumped
forth to dodge it.
Seeing
that cheap instance of betrayal incited Seifer to jump to in front of
Ifrit, quickly thrust in his gunblade into the demon's midriff and
swept it rightward, causing massive blood to spurt out all over the
place from the wound; then he jumped to behind the demon while he was
throwing a fruitless punch. “You know, I could kill you easily
like I killed Odin, and then forcefully junction and revive you and
once I find no purpose in junctioning you I'll eliminate you, making
your life a hellhole. Then you'd hopelessly try to free yourself
from me. Sounds bad, isn't it? But I won't, because I'm better than
that, and I'm better than you. Throwing a hit while Shiva was
unguarded—only cowards do that.”
Ifrit
quickly surrendered. It was a shameful moment for him; and yet he
was lucky that Seifer actually let him go and prepare himself before
having another fight with him. He let Seifer junction him, anyway.
On
the other hand, Shiva gave up to Zell and let him junction her as a
gratitude for rescuing her.
The
Float diminished shortly afterwards, letting both Seifer and Zell
land back on the ground. Both of them were quite satisfied that the
fight had ended fast. They knew that even after Ultimecia had passed
on, another conflicting problem would arise and leave them, as
warriors, no choice but to engage in another battle.
“Seifer!”
shouted Zell, running toward him; then lagging on once he was close.
“Is this really the right world? I've never seen that village
before.” His hand pointed at the village behind him. He knew
Seifer did not have any idea as he came just a while before him.
Even so, he could not help but expect an answer. He was not sure
whether he would still be fine if this turned out to be the wrong
world.
Seifer
gave him a slight but intense glance, sighed, looked at the village,
then looked back at Zell. “Nonetheless, we can't just still
here. You and I need to dry up and a place to stay the night. So
let's head there.”
Seifer
started walking first; then Zell closely followed him. It did not
take long before they arrived at the village. Part of the village
was burnt down, for it was hit by an astray fireball that Ifrit threw
while he was still fighting Shiva. However, it was a gorgeous place.
Above the front gate was a plank with “Belldia” engraved
on it. The place was densely decorated with flowers, especially
bellflowers, and small gas lamps. The large square in the center
looked like there was just a party held in there as confetti was
spread about and numerous glasses of beer were still on the tables,
as were foods.
“I
don't know this place,” said Zell weakly.
Seifer
walked toward one of the people that were gathered in front of
him—they wanted to thank both Seifer and Zell for putting an
end to the GF's fight, preventing them from causing any more harm.
“Thank
you, kind Sirs,” said one of the elderlies. “Welcome to
our humble village, Belldia.”
“No
problem,” said Seifer simply. “I want to know what year
it is now.”
The
villagers were puzzled with the question. However, the same elderly
said, “It's year 351.”
Zell
and Seifer came from year 304.
Zell
shrugged, not sure of his own feeling. He badly wanted to see his
Ma, Quistis, Selphie, Matron, and others. “Ma probably has
passed on while Quistis and others... well, they should still be
alive--just old,” thought him.
“What's
the nearest city from here?” asked Seifer again.
“That
would be Winhill and Timber. But if I may advise, don't go to
Winhill as it's infested with dangerous monsters, Sir. Most of
Winhill's residents have moved to this place.”
“I'm
Seifer and he's Zell. He's a bit sick. Can we stay for the night?”
“Feel
free to rest here,” answered the elderly; then he turned to a
young woman behind him. “Janice, show these gentlemen the way
to the inn.”
