Trinket
Title: Trinket
Author: enchanted_black
Rating: PG
Pairing: Reno/Kadaj
Warnings: language, fluff, slight? OOC
Summary: It's not the gift that counts but the thought.
Disclaimer: Square Enix owns FF7, I'm just a lowly wage slave who's doing this to please her demanding muse.
A/N: This is my first Reno x Kadaj. And this is also my first fluff. I don't do fluff but what the hell, I decided to do it this time. Oh, and this is a Valentine's Day fic (I should be doing a Vincent story instead, eh?)
~Feedback is welcomed as long as it's con-crit. Flames will be sent to Fiery Furnaces of the Dark Blacksmith~

Reno had brought the little shimmering trinket from a small shop in Sector 4. The shopkeeper had told him that it was very rare to find such a piece nowadays and he decided that he had to have it. Besides nothing was too good for his Kadaj.
Reno held the small diamond ring up to the sunlight that was pouring into his bedroom and watched in fascination as the fractured colors appeared upon the ceiling. It was simply beautiful, just like Kadaj. Reno wondered where his young lover could be right now.
As if reading his mind the front door closed loudly and something fell to the floor with a crash. Reno raced out of the room to the source of the commotion.
Kadaj sat on the shiny wood floor, a shopping bag at his feet and a dozen or so apples strewn across the floor. "Shit," he muttered.
"Are you okay, yo?" Reno asked as he knelt beside Kadaj.
Kadaj gazed up at him with shimmering green eyes and smiled. "Yeah. I just tripped over the rug that's all. What's that?"
Kadaj had a good eye and had noticed the ring. Reno hastily put it in his pants pocket. "N-Nothing, babe. Look, how about we go down to the 7th Heaven and say hey to Strife and them?"
The younger man, his eyes on Reno's pocket in which the ring was stashed, shook his head. "No. I wanted to say in and have dinner. You know, today is Lover's Day."
Reno hadn't forgotten. That's why he had purchased the dazzling little trinket. "Oh, yeah. Well, that's fine then."
Reno helped Kadaj up and pulled him into a quick hug before helping him pick up the fallen groceries. Kadaj gave him a peck on the cheek and basically skipped to the kitchen. Reno smiled to himself. At least the boy had become easy to please.

Kadaj had spent a decent half of the evening cooking dinner. Reno watched him as he sweated over his chicken parmesan.
"I can help, yo."
Kadaj shook his head, the silver strands of hair falling into his face. He wiped a bead of sweat off his nose and said," I got it. You just sit there and look handsome."
Reno laughed. "That I can do, man."
Kadaj smirked. He didn't reply but Reno knew he was thinking up some smartass comment. That's why he liked the boy so much.
Kadaj turned off the stove and announced joyfully, "Dinner is done!"
"About time."
The silver haired youth poked his tongue out at Reno and said,"Get the plates and silverware, Reno."
Reno did as Kadaj said and set the table as Kadaj brought over the steaming dish. Reno sat down and watched as Kadaj went to get the vegetable and pasta dishes that would accompany their meal.
Finally Kadaj sat down and looked at Reno. It was the look that meant "You have something to tell me, so tell me now".
Reno cleared his throat. "Um...I got something for you today."
Kadaj chuckled. "Was it that thing you had in your hand earlier?" he asked playfully.
Reno felt his face flush. "Er...yeah."
Kadaj stifled a snort. Reno was never good at hiding anything especially if it were important.
Reno shrugged. "Hell, here ya go. Happy Lover's Day," he said softly. He pulled a small red velvet box of his blazer pocket and handed it to Kadaj.
Kadaj took the small box and Reno's breath hitched. Against the soft candle light and with that little red box in his hand, Kadaj appeared to glow. The light made his silver hair glitter and his eyes looked as if they were sparkling. And was that a tear?
Slowly Kadaj opened the box and let out a small gasp. He had never expected anything like this. With watery eyes he looked up at Reno and smiled, rendered speechless by the gift.
"The shopkeeper told me they were rare and I thought it would be perfect for you," Reno whispered. "It's to show how much I...er...love you."
As quick as lightning, Kadaj reached over and pulled Reno into a tight hug. "Thank you, Reno," he murmured. "I love you, too."
"Any time, sweet thing." Reno kissed the top of Kadaj's head.
Kadaj moved so that he was sitting in his lap with his arms around his neck.
"You know, I have to properly thank you," he purred. Reno knew what he meant and couldn't help but laugh.
"What about dinner?" he asked.
"Ever heard of leftovers?"
