Someone to Love...
by Midori Bond
Chapter 1
She walked.
It was all
automatic. Her heart had been shattered, and her ran around in
circles trying to grasp the situation in front of her.
One foot up,
the other down.
She didn't pay
attention to where her steps guided her. She was Nibelheim, that was
all that mattered. The one place she knew like the back of her hand.
The one place that constantly stayed in her heart. The one place
where it all began.
"Why are
you out here?" a familiar, cold baritone asked.
Coffee colored
eyes slowly raised to meet garnet. She could only blink at him, as if
realizing where she was... how far she walked. Her lips parted,
hoping that she wouldn't sound as pathetic as she felt.
"Vincent," she whimpered.
His head
tilted slightly as he looked at her. The last time he had seen her,
she had been beaming with pride. Her dearest love had defeated Kadaj,
and was finally at peace with himself. Now, she looked as she had
been completely broken. "Tifa," he acknowledged. He had to
admit, he wasn't prepared for her to run to him and bury her face in
his chest. When her sobs reached his ears, his arms automatically
came up to wrap around her body. "Tifa, what is it?" he
asked, half-knowing the answer.
She shook her
head and tried to control her breathing. Vincent was the last person
she wanted to burden with such a... personal matter. He would
probably find it all trivial. "It... it's...."
"It's
Cloud, isn't it?" he asked lowly. When wide, wet eyes looked at
him, he nodded. As strong as Tifa was, Cloud was the only one that
could make her cry. Without thinking, he reached up and brushed her
hair away from her face. "You've finally discovered where his
heart lies."
Her face
contorted from shock to anger and she started to struggle in his
arms. "What the hell do you know?" she asked in a growl.
He allowed her
to push him away. This was more like the woman he fought along
side. "A lot more than you give me credit for," he said in
an almost bored tone. When she snorted, he continued. "For
years, you've devoted yourself to one person. Give up everything to
ensure their happiness, to make sure they survive."
He saw the way Tifa lowered her head and pushed on. "Then one
day, you find their true feelings, and they don't include you."
"Shut
up," Tifa whispered as more tears fell from her eyes. "Shut
up. You don't know anything about it."
"Then
tell me," he countered. Her eyes were full of tears and anger.
"Where am I wrong? Cloud didn't reject you? He didn't confess
his undying love for Aeris?"
"Shut
up!" she screamed. "You don't know how it feels. To give
everything. To give up everything. Only to discover that I'm in a
fight I can't win."
A rueful muse
escaped him. "I don't know how it feels," he echoed.
"Do you remember a woman named Lucrecia?"
Tifa's eyes
slowly went round. She had forgotten all about Vincent's old love.
She lowered her head and wrapped her arms around her body. "I'm
sorry," she said in a whisper.
"You're
hurt," he corrected. "You'll lash out at everyone and
anything that comes within arms distance."
His tone was
soft. A surprising comfort to her. She couldn't stop the small smile
that crossed her face. "You know, for a guy that's spent a good
amount of his life asleep, you're pretty observant." Tifa looked
at their surroundings, trying to avoid looking at him. The pale moon
was slowly rising over the mountain top. Stars twinkled brightly in
the sky, providing the perfect romantic setting. Tifa shook her head
again. She had to get her mind off of her heartache. "I'm
sorry," she said again.
The entire
time, Vincent watched her. She truly had nothing to be sorry for. He
held his hand out to her. "Let me take you home," he
offered. He frowned when she turned away from him and laughed bitterly.
"I don't
have a home," she said shaking her head. "And I can't go
back to the inn. It's too embarrassing." Her eyes widened when
he easily turned her around and lifted her into his arms.
"I had no
intention of taking you to the inn."
Tifa looked at
him as he started to walk back towards the town. A faint, grateful
smile crossed her face as she saw the mansion coming into focus. She
laid her head against his shoulder and allowed a sigh to escape her.
"I... I threw myself at him," she confessed.
He could feel
his jaw tightening. Cloud was one of the few people he could consider
a friend, but whenever Tifa was involved....
"I fixed
a nice romantic dinner, decorated my room." She choked back a
sob and inhaled Vincent's sent. "We were talking, and I kissed
him. When we pulled apart, he called me Aeris." She blinked as
he put her on her feet. "Vincent?"
He wanted to
hold her forever, but refused to take advantage of her. "You
said yourself, he's honest. Would you rather know that he still pines
for her now, or find out years from now that he's been living a lie
for you?"
Tifa looked
over her shoulder and saw the inn. She knew which room was Cloud's,
but she didn't know if she should be upset of grateful that the light
was still on. "I want what she has," Tifa admitted softly.
Her eyes turned to Vincent as he pushed open the gate. "I want a
man to love me as much as he loves her, or you love Lucrecia."
He looked at
her with widened eyes as she walked past him. She actually thought
that no one loved her. "I'm sure there is someone that cares for
you," he said as they entered his large home.
She shook her
head and wiped her eyes. "Yes, but not that all consuming kind
of love. Where everything the other person does, is for their
lover." She slowly inhaled as she saw a strange look in garnet
colored orbs. "I know, I've never seemed like type to have girly
dreams like that."
Vincent nodded
slowly. "You can stay in the room upstairs. If you need
anything, I'll be in the basement."
"No,"
Tifa said quickly. When he looked at her, she felt a blush cross her
face. "I... I don't want to be alone. Not tonight."
The temptation
was too much. Vincent turned away from her too innocent gaze and
inhaled. "You do not realize what you're asking."
She nodded as
she turned away from him. "I'm sorry. I should remember to stop
trying to replace dead women," she said mostly to herself.
Before Vincent could say anything, she ran down the hall.
Vincent closed
his eyes as the door to the tea room slammed shut. "You could
never replace Lucrecia," he said to the empty foyer. "But
that doesn't mean you don't have just as large a piece of my
heart," he whispered before walking up the stairs.
Hours later,
Vincent calmly walked through the mansion. He knew Tifa was still in
the house, but he hadn't heard her leave the tea room. As he
approached the tea room, he could see the light still on. He opened
the door and saw that Tifa had fallen asleep at the piano. Vincent
quietly walked over to her and lifted her into his arms.
Ruby eyes
closed in pleasure as she turned her face towards his neck and gently
nuzzled it. His arms tightened around her body as he carried her up
to the bedroom. His mind and heart were both in turmoil. He knew he
loved the spirited woman in his arms, but he had accepted that she
was forever devoted to Cloud. Now, she found out about Cloud's
endless love for Aeris and is crushed by it. Most men would see it as an
opportunity to move in and sweep her off her feet, but she was too
precious to him.
Vincent
reached the bedroom and carried her into it. He laid her gently on
the bed, regretting the fact that he was going to let her go. As he
started to pull away from her, Tifa tilted her face towards his and
kissed him tenderly. Vincent inhaled sharply as she parted her lips
with her tongue. His body acted completely on its own as he pulled
her tight against him. He shifted his hold on her, his claw cradled
her head while his hand gently held her waist. A groan escaped him as
her hands tangled in his hair. He shifted until he was lying beside
her, devouring her mouth. It wasn't until one of her lean legs
wrapped around his waist did he realize what he was doing. "Tifa,"
he breathed, breaking the kiss. He looked into her eyes and could
only swallow at the longing in them. "We shouldn't." His
heart broke as the longing in her eyes turned to defeat and despair.
She shifted in
her arms. "You're right," she said weakly. "I'm not
being fair to you, or Cloud. You're one of his best friends. I have
no right turning to you for comfort." She ran her fingers through
her hair and frowned as she realized they were trembling. "Especially
when you're still in love with...." Her sentence was cut off
when he grabbed her and kissed her with near brushing force.
He held her
close as she gave into his kiss. He couldn't take it anymore. Her
voice, her eyes, they had no right sounding or looking so hopeless.
He trailed kisses down her throat, forcing soft moans from her. His
hands worked on removing her clothes while trembling fingers lifted
his shirt from his pants. Her leg came around his waist again and her
hips started to move with his. He looked into her eyes and moved
against her. The passion dazed look in chocolate orbs was infinitely
better than the broken expression she wore earlier.
Tifa blushed
heavily as he pulled away from her. She could only watch speechless
as he quickly stripped off his shirt. His lean body nearly glowed in
the moonlight. She could see the scars that the experiments had left
on him, and all she wanted to do was kiss his pain away. As he
started to unbuckle his belt, she sat up and started to take off her
own clothes.
Vincent saw
the way she was watching him. "I won't hurt you," he said
holding out his hand.
Tifa swallowed
as she crawled closer to him. "I know," she whispered
taking his hand. Her eyes closed as he started to place open mouthed kisses
and gentle bites on her neck. She tangled her fingers in his hair
and ignored the sound of fabric ripping. A pleasure filled cry
escaped her as his mouth wrapped around one of her nipples.
He couldn't stop
himself. Her smell and taste consumed him. The seams of her pants
snapped easily under his claw. It had been so long since he had been
with anyone, she made him want to lose every ounce of self control he
had. He shifted so that his body blanketed hers. He couldn't admit
his true feelings, but he would show her.
She was
shaking as his hands left trails of fire along her skin. Her eyes locked
with his as he moved from one breast to the other. Their eyes met
for a long moment before she pulled him close and kissed him passionately.
He laid her back, never pausing in devouring her mouth. He caught
the gasp that escaped her when his nimble fingers parted her lower
lips and caressed her in the most intimate way. He released her mouth
and trailed fiery kisses down her neck. Her lean fighter's body was
more responsive than he originally thought she would be. Her hips
were keeping up with the pace of his hand, and the whines coming from
her throat were like music to his ears. He wanted all of her, and he
wouldn't stop until he had all of her.
Tifa writhed
under him as she felt two fingers enter her body. The feelings he was starting
to awaken in her were overwhelming. She ran her fingernails across
his back as he shifted and moved down her body. Her back arched when
his tongue laved at her belly button. Just as she gathered enough
breath to say something, his tongue caressed her clitoris. "Oh
God, Vincent," she gasped. Her body tensed and trembled as he
continued his ministrations.
He adored the
sound of his name from her lips. Her legs were tight around his head,
trapping him. Fistfuls of his hair held him in place as her body moved
of its own accord. He wanted to burn away all thoughts of Cloud and
replace them with memories of this night.
All too soon,
Tifa's world erupted into white and Vincent's name was ripped from
her throat. A low moan escaped him as he lapped at her release. He
trailed kisses up her body, knowing that she was still recovering from
her climax. A soft smile crossed his face as she automatically
tangled her fingers in his hair and sought his mouth with her own.
Tifa inhaled
slowly and gripped his shoulder as he started to enter her. She
looked into his eyes as he pulled his mouth away from hers and
paused. "Vincent," she breathed.
"Why
didn't you tell me?" he asked breathlessly. He continued to
press against her maidenhood, fighting the urge to move.
She brushed
his hair back and gazed into intense ruby eyes. "Because I don't
want to be alone," she answered, even as tears filled her own eyes.
He frowned as
he traced one of her tears with his finger. She was giving him her
most precious gift for all the wrong reasons. "I'll won't ever
leave you alone," he told her. Just as she opened her mouth to respond,
he kissed her passionately. He felt her legs wrap around his waist
and allowed his hips to snap forward. As her body tensed again, he froze.
He didn't want to hurt her, but it couldn't be helped. He concentrated
on kissing her, waiting for her body to adjust to him.
She shifted
her hips, Drinking in the sound of his gasp. It hurt, but not as much
as she had been expecting. It was uncomfortable than anything.
He moved from
kissing her mouth to her neck as he started to thrust into her. He
angled his thrusts to hit the one spot inside of her that made her
cry out. He growled low in his throat as she whispered his name and
started to give his neck the same treatment that he gave hers.
Tifa was
caught in a whirlwind of ecstasy. Her body moved with his in a
frantic dance of passion as her nails raked down her back. Every touch,
every sensation was intensified. The brush of his hair along her
skin, the feeling of his grip on her hips, all of it made her feel
like she was on fire from the inside out. She cried out and allowed
her head to fall back as he lifted her into a sitting position.
"Vincent," she cried out as he bit down on the side of her
neck. His thrusts were deeper, and more frantic now, and all she
could do was hold on to him as if her sanity depended on it.
He brushed gentle
kisses along the angry mark of passion already developing on her
throat. Her nails were clawing into his shoulders as he kissed her
ear. "I have you, don't be frightened," he whispered into
her ear. He inhaled sharply as her body tightened around his. The
nails in his shoulders nearly drew blood as they raked down his back. Vincent
couldn't tear his eyes away from her face as she screamed his name,
lost in her first taste of true, untamed passion.
Vincent had
always known she was beautiful, but lost in the throws of passion,
she looked like a goddess. A small selfish part of him cheered. He
was the only one to see her this way, and as long as he had a say, he
would be the only one to ever see her this way. His name would be the
only one she would scream like this. He crushed his lips against her
as he felt his own body tighten and his seed release into her.
Tifa's mind
slowly returned from utter bliss as their kiss calmed down. Tears
continued to come to her eyes, knowing that Vincent's thoughts were
probably focused on Lucrecia; just like Cloud's were focused on Aeris.
She felt him lay beside her, and couldn't help but curl up next to
him. Even if she was fighting another ghost, she didn't want to be
alone. She couldn't. Not tonight. Never on the anniversary of Nibelheim's
destruction.
Vincent looked
at her as she rested her head on his shoulder. Something was still bothering
her. She was still trapped in whatever misery Cloud left there. He
ran his fingers through her hair, hoping that the action would soothe
her. In the morning, he would offer her his home, and his life. She
couldn't keep traveling with Cloud. She would be too broken. He would
do what he could to keep her by his side.
After a while,
Vincent felt her shallow breath across his chest and assumed she was asleep.
He kissed the top of her head and wrapped his arms around her.
"I never wanted to make love to you like this," he whispered
into her hair. "Never like this." He reached down and
wiped away the fresh trail of tears that escaped her eyes before
succumbing to slumber himself.
Tifa felt her
entire world crashing down around her. She was right. He didn't want
her, he wanted Lucrecia. He was just like Cloud, only worse. He would
live a lie for her. She pressed a kiss against his chest before falling
asleep as well. She only had one option, but she would have to rest,
and wait until morning before she could do anything.
