“What would you if I said that I love you.” Vincent paused, turned to the pilot who seemed almost afraid and thought about the question.
“That your statement is questionable and if you really do then I want you to prove it.” The gunman smirked walking toward Cid making him very uncomfortable. The pilot backed up finally hitting the wall. He closed his eyes and readied himself for the beating that soon in coming. It was only when he felt Vincent’s breathe in his ears did he open his eyes in shock.
“Follow me.” As Vincent moved away Cid shivered and followed silently behind the gunman. He felt like a child in trouble and that was not far from the truth. Cid was not and child but he was in a lot of trouble.
This had been the first time that Vincent had spoke to him in a month and it had been all his fault. Cid knew he had been drinking too much. Vincent didn’t like and warned him that something might happen and something did happen. A big something. Cid had been woken very rudely by a punch to the jaw with an angry Vincent standing over him. Then Vincent’s expression turned to hurt and he walked away. It was one thing that Cid would never forget, Vincent’s eyes. Those eyes had shone more emotion than Cid had ever thought they could. He felt lower than Mako beast droppings when he looked over to see Tseng still asleep beside him.
The pilot had quickly gathered his clothes and dressed trying to chase after Vincent. Only to find that the gunman had already vacated The Valentine. Cid had searched two weeks before Vincent returned only to find that the gunman had no words for him. He had tried everything to apologize to Vincent from flowers to gifts. He had made a big sigh and posted it on the side of The Valentine but to no avail.
It was no time before the shamed man found that he was standing in the gunman’s room. Disappointed crimson eyes fell upon him, making a wave of emotion overtake him as he dropped to his knees looking up at the man.
“Vincent please, I know there is nothing that I can say that will make things better. I cannot apologize enough. Tell me, what I can do. Please I’m begging you. Just don’t leave me again.” by now tears were streaming down his face. His hands were on the floor, trembling.
Vincent was still very angry with Cid but this emotional breakdown showed that the pilot had though deeply about what he had done. Honestly Vincent knew that Cid loved him more than anything else.
“Cid there is only one thing that I can say.” Vincent paused, Cid remaining on his knees waiting, willing to do what the gunman wanted. Vincent turned sad eyes on him crumbling Cid’s heart.
“Give me your wings.” Cid remained on his knees in utter fear.
“You want what?” He stammered as if he wasn’t sure what the crimson eyed man had asked. Vincent looked down on the pilot feeling poignant for the man.
“Your wings I want them. The Valentine and The Tiny Bronco.” Cid looked up at the raven haired man eyes still full of tears. It was minutes before the blonde was able to speak and it was the tone of his voice that broke Vincent’s heart into.
“Alright. Alright.” He said almost pleadingly.
“They are yours. Take everything.” Vincent almost faltered in his resolve but decided to remain resolute in his punishment.
“Pull yourself together and tell your men to fly to Rocket Town. They will land and make their way home. Tell them Cid Highwind that they are only to follow my orders until I say otherwise.” Finally Cid was able to stand, shakily.
“After you have told them come back here. I’ll be waiting.” Cid nodded and walked to the bathroom. Quickly he washed his face leaning heavily on the sink. He didn’t know if he could do this but he loved Vincent and couldn’t live without him. He also couldn’t live without the sky. Making himself presentable he left Vincent’s room without looking at the gunman.
Back in the room Vincent sat down at his desk sighing. Honestly he felt terrible but how else would he get Cid’s attention. He had to make him realize that he couldn’t do as he pleased without consequence. Still he was surprised that Cid had broke so easily. It seemed the pilot was more sensitive than he realized. Matter of fact this was the first time he had ever seen this kind of emotion from Cid. It really had caught him off guard. Not but ten minutes later Cid came back his head hung. As he looked at the gunman Vincent stood and walked to him, Cid closing the door softly. Vincent gently placed a hand on the grounded aviators cheek.
“Cid, I am sorry but I cannot relent” he sighed. Cid looked up into crimson eyes.
“Why are you sorry I’m the one who fucked up and almost ruined everything I hold dear. I was really surprised you came back. I was beginning to think…” He trailed off and took the pilot by the hand pulling him into a sitting position on the bed.
“Cid I love you. Human are capable of unending passion and cruelty. I could never be that cruel to you. I would have come back to settle things if I had wanted to leave you.” Vincent lifted the pilot’s face by his chin. Pain swirled like a storm in the eyes that were like the sky.
“But I was so cruel to you.” he quickly cast them away from the piercing crimson gaze.
“I do forgive you but now you will have to earn my trust, your wings.” Vincent squeezed Cid’s hand.
“We will be home in an hour.” Whispered the pilot softly. Vincent wrapped his lithe arms around Cid’s broad shoulders pulling his close.
“Are you going to be alright?” The aviator returned the hug tightly. Azure eyes met with crimson, a faint smile appeared on Cid’s face.
“After all I have you.”
