Disclaimer: I do not own Final Fantasy VIII, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.

Disclaimer: The FF8 characters are the property of Square Enix, not me. I’m just playing with them and not making anything at all. It’s just a way of dealing with my mixed up emotions.

A/N: Don’t hurt me because it’s been nearly two months. I’ve had killer writer’s block until sleep deprivation hit me in the middle of the Chicago Greyhound station and it was like Squall and Seifer talked to me. Umm, angst warnings apply, though not as much as before.

How do you get that lonely, how do you hurt that bad
To make you make the call, that havin’ no life at all
Is better than the life that you had
How do you feel so empty, you want to let it all go
How do you get that lonely…and nobody know

~ Blaine Larsen - How Do You Get That Lonely

Either I ain’t dead, or my hell is a very strange place. Because hell right now is lookin’ a lot like the Balamb Garden infirmary.

Same color walls, same window on the right side of me…and why in the hell are my arms and legs restrained?! I can only move my head and that really fucking sucks. I think I can remember seeing Squall in Esthar, but that seemed like a dream. Guess it must’ve been real.

But why in the hell did he save me? Would’ve thought he’d let me die, spare everyone the hassle of putting me on trial and then executing me. Have you ever stopped to consider that they might not want you dead, dumbass? You’ve been so wrapped up in yourself that you can’t think of any other possibilities. What other possibilities are there – that they’re just gonna welcome me right back and let me try one last time to make SeeD? Doubtful.

“If you promise not to hit anyone or try to run off, I can remove the restraints, Seifer,” I hear Dr. Kadowaki tell me. Yeah, like she really trusts me that much.

“You should know me by now, Doc. I didn’t come here because I wanted to, so I wanna get the fuck out as soon as I can,” I tell her, smirking although I know I’ll be stuck in this bed for a long time now.

“You nearly died, you know. Squall used a lot of healing magic on the ride here, but it was still a hard battle to keep your heart and lungs working. That was quite an overdose; I'm not sure if it was accidental or deliberate.”

I roll my eyes and laugh harshly, deciding to fill her in on the truth. “Should’ve just let me die like I wanted to. Not like anyone would miss me. One less blotch marring the otherwise normal post-sorceress world.”

Her response makes me blink. “You’d be surprised to hear how certain people have acted in your absence, I believe.”

“Certain people?” What the fuck does she mean by that? If she’s implying that Squall missed me, then she’s the one who needs to have her head examined. Leonhart probably enjoyed being the best fighter around without me to challenge him and take him down a notch or two.

Dr. Kadowaki leaves without saying anything else and I hear the bells marking the end of a class period go off. The noise of students running through the halls and chattering to their friends reminds me of the time when Raijin, Fujin, and I ruled over everyone as the Disciplinary Committee. Hyne, I miss those days.

Wonder where those two are anyway. Ain’t seen ‘em since they ditched me in the Lunatic Pandora. So much for friendship.

Fuck, I hate not being able to move. But if I were free, I’d just get up, walk right out the front doors, and hope to never run into anyone from here again. Except for maybe Squall. If I saw him, I’d have as much fun as I could get away with.

Speak of the devil, Leonhart himself is walking in. And he looks…worried, almost. Now that’s a new one. Never seen anything like that on his face before.

I don’t want to talk to him, I don’t want to be here, and I just wish I could get the hell out of Garden and find some nice place to really die. There’s no place in the world for a fallen knight. Squall would never understand that, though. His whiny little sorceress is still alive and probably waiting for him in his dorm room.

“I’m sure you have questions for me, Seifer. I’ll explain as much as I can, but it’s going to take a while,” he tells me while sitting down next to the bed. Fuck, I hate that look I see in those blue-gray eyes. It’s one I’ve never seen before and I don’t wanna put a name to it right now. He’s hurt, Almasy. Hurt because of what you nearly did.

Now why in the hell would my almost dying hurt Squall, the Ice Prince himself?

A/N: All Seifer’s, and I’m assuming my readers’, questions will be answered in the next chapter. Oh, and I’m having a little contest. The chapter titles for this fic will be patterned after a certain famous author’s way of doing things. The first person to email me calliopepurple@gmail.com and tell me the author will get a ficlet written for him/her. Reviewing, commenting, IMing, or emailing me at my Hotmail account will not count.
