Today, Lahabrea thought as he watched his target, was going to be a glorious one. Everything was going according to his plan. Gaius van Baelsar, the ignorant Garlean fool, was awakening his lord with every action. Gaius had no knowledge of this, which made it all the sweeter. The fool was advancing Lahabrea’s plans and would spell his own doom.
His target, however, was not Gaius. Lahabrea watched the gathering of Eorzeans with a distasteful scowl. Such beasts, he thought as he ducked the gaze of a pair of Miqo’te. The humanoids with feline ears and tails passed his hiding place none the wiser. A few Lalafell passed as well, sneering lewdly at each other and belying the innocent children they looked to be. Their height was not great enough to view Lahabrea’s hiding place.
The Roegadyn that passed towered above him, with their disgustingly corpselike skin tone and their overly muscled frames, didn’t even think to look down towards Lahabrea. They laughed about something or other as they went on their way. Lahabrea couldn’t care enough to give them a second thought, so long as his presence went undiscovered.
The Elezen were the most humanlike of the races, and so Lahabrea did not feel as must distaste for them. Many Hyur managed that lithe, androgynous beauty all Elezen seemed to hold. Only the sight of their ears, pointed and reaching past the heights of their heads, hinted at their non-Hyur ancestry. Lahabrea could ignore the ears for the sake of their attractiveness. His target was an Elezen, after all. For what he planned to do, the ears would not deter him in the slightest.
It was almost amusing how easily he’d managed to infiltrate the deepest part of the Eorzean camp. They were all running about like mice in a maze while they attempted in vain to stop Gaius. His black cloak was mistaken for that of a Black Mage, and so long as he kept his hood up, no one was the wiser. It was only when he ventured close to those who would recognize him that he sought to hide.
His presence here had a singular purpose: To disrupt the Eorzeans and make it that much more likely that the barbarians wouldn’t succeed. Remove the head from the snake, Lahabrea mused as he watched his target, and the body would flounder. There was one person guiding the hand of the Eorzean forces. This person was directing every action. Without his influence, their plan would shatter to pieces. Gaius would awaken Lahabrea’s lord, every eikon in Eorzea would fall, and even the Twelve would bow at his feet.
It would be a glorious new dawn.
The wait was a bell, perhaps a bit longer. Lahabrea waited patiently for his quarry to be left alone. He could take the man when others were nearby, but that would mean he would be sought all the sooner. No, it was best for the disappearance to go unnoticed for as long as possible before search parties were assembled.
His patience was awarded when his target was left alone at long last. Lahabrea took a moment to size him up – short, for an Elezen. Very slight. On the cusp of adulthood, he guessed, but far past childhood. Of age, at the very least, and that was all the better for Lahabrea. His clothes were tight to his skin, gaps in the fabric providing a glimpse of tantalizingly pale, smooth skin. His white hair was pulled back into a rather tight-looking ponytail at the back of his skull, save for the bangs that fluffed out over his eyes. This prevented Lahabrea from seeing his expression.
Lahabrea smirked. This would be glorious for him. The one whose body he held, however, raged against him. Quiet, he commanded. You brought this on yourself when you refused to yield.
The protests fell silent.
His target knew nothing of what hit him. Lahabrea held the drugged cloth against the boy’s mouth and waited for his weak struggles to cease. The hands that clawed at his didn’t even break his skin, and it was only seconds before the boy slumped limply into his arms.
Lahabrea hefted the slight form up and vanished back into the shadows. Now it was time to execute the second part of his plan. Hopefully, this would see him with a compliant host for the many long years to come.
