“You sure you don’t want to come? It’ll be fun!” Kyo beamed while slipping on his coat.
“I…no, it’s okay,” Cloud mumbled with a shake of his head before grinning a bit and lifting up one of his textbooks, “besides I need to catch up on some studying.”
“It’s the weekend,” Kyo replied with a frown, “you shouldn’t be locked up in the room reading.”
“And so I should be out with you and your friends?” The blonde asked with a roll of his eyes, “Thanks but no thanks.”
“Cloud they’re not all assholes,” Kyo continued, “maybe you should give them a chance.”
Kyo was right about a few things, it was the weekend, and he shouldn’t be stuck locked up in the room…but then again he didn’t really mind, he had done that on weekends for a big portion of his life. But what his roommate wasn’t right about was giving his friends a chance. All of Kyo’s friends were assholes as far as he was concerned. The ones he had met anyways proved to be, and while sitting inside his room might not be all that much fun he was certain that being picked on all night by the other recruits wouldn’t prove to be any better.
“I’ll pass,” he replied while giving his friend an “end of discussion” type of look.
“Fine,” Kyo began while raising up his hands in defeat, “if that’s what you want then you and your books have fun tonight.”
“We will,” Cloud shot back with a smirk before dropping his gaze down to the text he had just opened.
“Yeah yeah, I’ll see ya later!” Kyo said with an amused look on his face before stepping out of the room and closing the door behind him.
I thought he’d never leave. Scanning the contents of the book Cloud ran a hand through his golden spikes before raising an eyebrow. Truth was that he actually had no clue what was going on in the chapters in the book before him. Between his new training class and spending time with Zack he had managed to fall behind just a bit in a few of his studies. He supposed he would have to make arrangements to try to fix the problem, he couldn’t afford to fall behind in classes, he would just have to start making good use of his time. His training class though it didn’t take up much time, it took up a lot of energy so even when he was done and out of class he ended up just lying around and not wanting to do anything. And if he did manage to move it was only to move his feet to carry him over to Zack’s….he was never too tired to do that.
Maybe I need to stop going there so much, I never get any homework done with Zack distracting me all the time.
A small smile appeared on his face briefly when he found his thoughts drifting to the raven haired-SOLDIER. But he quickly shook his head when he realized he had been rereading the same sentence in front of him for the past five minutes.
Great, he’s not even here and still he’s distracting me.
Sighing he closed his textbook and leaned back against his bed, he figured he wasn’t going to get any studying done so he might as well just give up. It was times like this when he would decide to head over to Zack’s, but Zack wasn’t home now. He had gone to Junon on some sort of assignment and had told Cloud that he would be back in three days. But he wasn’t back in three days, this night marked the fifth and Zack still wasn’t back from Junon making it the first weekend that the blonde had been away from the other since they had met a while back.
Cloud closed his eyes. He had to admit that a part of him was worried about Zack. Was he okay? Did something happen? He tried not to think badly but he couldn’t help it. Zack was a SOLDIER, first class. He faced dangerous moments more times than could be counted on hand, and while Cloud was aware of that from the beginning it had only actually begun to sink in.
He wished he could call him, talk to him, just hear his voice to know that he was okay, maybe then all of the bad thoughts running through his mind would stop.
“Stop acting like some needy girlfriend,” the blonde mumbled to himself before reaching over to the shelf and grabbing one of Kyo’s magazines. He had to get his mind off of his boyfriend for a while, thinking about him was only going to worry him and make him anxious. Though he was sure he was probably going to need a little more than a magazine to help him.
Maybe I should’ve went with Kyo after all.
Glancing at the door he shook his head before going back to the magazine. It would have to do.
***********************************************************************
“Honestly Strife how did you make it out of basic training? Is that really all you’ve got?”
“Sir no sir!” Cloud replied while standing up on shaky legs and looking at his opponent with tired eyes.
“Look’s like you’re about to pass out. Why don’t you just call it quits, obviously this training is too vigorous for you,” Sergeant Okuda explained with a smirk.
“Sir no sir!” The recruit continued while picking up the wooden practice sword and holding it tightly in both hands.
“No sir what?” Okuda asked looking at the blonde with narrowed eyes.
“Sir I won’t quit sir!” Cloud began, “I’m capable of completing this exercise!”
“Hmph, really?” The sergeant sneered, “I haven’t seen anything from you to tell me otherwise.”
Damn it Cloud come on! Pull it together! Shaking his head he snapped his gaze back to his opponent who was holding his practice sword too, giving Cloud a somewhat sympathetic look. It wasn’t hard to see that the recruit was out of it. His eyes and posture told that he was tired and probably hadn’t slept in days. No doubt Sergeant Okuda was aware of this, which was why he was having fun seeing how far he could push the blonde.
And it was true, Cloud hadn’t slept in days. He tried, but he couldn’t. His mind was riddle with too many thoughts. His once comfortable pattern was completely shaken, and all because of one person. Zack. Where the hell was he? Cloud couldn’t focus until he knew the answer to that, he couldn’t sleep, concentrate, function, until he knew the answer.
Three days. Three days was what he said, he would be back in three days. Five days, though it was pushing a bit Cloud could understand, but not any more than that. Not without a phone call or something. It was already nearing the end of the next week and still Zack wasn’t back. He didn’t understand it at all. Did something happen to him? No, surely if something did it would’ve been all around the facility by now…wouldn’t it?
“That’s all for today Strife, don’t want you hurting yourself,” the Sergeant began while motioning for the other boy to leave the area.
“No! I can-” the blonde started to protest before Sergeant Okuda walked up to him.
“Get some rest and come to class tomorrow. We’ll see if you do any better, wouldn’t want to have demote you or anything,” the older man explained with a grin.
Cloud’s eyes widened. Demote? Could he actually do that?
“Sir I’m fine I just…have some things on my mind, sorry Sir I’ll be focused tomorrow,” the blonde spoke softly while hanging his head.
“Things on your mind?” The Sergeant asked while crossing his arms.
“Sir, yes sir,” Cloud replied still keeping his gaze downward.
“Tough,” The Sergeant began while tilting his head, his voice cold “Listen Strife don’t think that I want to hear about any of your problems, I‘m not your damn therapist. You sort out your personal shit before you step foot into my class, you got it?”
“Yes…sir,” the blonde replied quietly not daring to look up to meet his instructors gaze.
“I don’t know how the hell you think you can make it into SOLDIER, you’re too damn emotional for one,” Okuda began, “almost like a damn girl,” he added with a laugh.
Breathe, don’t worry about what this bastard is saying. Don’t lose your temper, do you really want to have to clean floors again?
“To be a SOLDIER you have to be able to put all your fucking emotions aside. You do realize that with being a SOLDIER you will have to kill sometimes. What would you do then? Cry after you shot someone?” He joked to himself with another of his laughs, “A SOLDIER consists of a lot of traits and skills that you don’t have, and I don’t see you gaining them anytime soon.”
Cloud finally looked up and glanced around at the other students who were all occupied in their own spar matches before his gaze fell onto the Sergeant. A gaze that was anything but friendly.
“Get out of here, class is over for you,” Okuda spoke before turning on his heel and walking over to a few of the other students, blowing his whistle and yelling out some type of commands.
The blonde might’ve argued with the Sergeant more, might’ve told him that he was going to finish out class, but at the moment he really didn’t feel like arguing with the jerk. He quickly retrieved his gym bag and slung it over his shoulder before making his way over to the doors to exit. He heard someone say his name and figured it was Kyo wanting to ask what happened, he probably saw he and the instructor talking. But he didn’t stop to turn back, he just continued out the door and down the hall.
Fuck Sergeant Okuda! Who the hell does he think he is? I’m too emotional to be a SOLDIER? What the hell? What, to be a SOLDIER means that I have to lack emotions and become some sort of robot? Basically lose human components just so that I can be one of Shinra’s “toy soldiers.” When did I ever read that in the job description?
“Bastard,” the recruit mumbled through clenched teeth as he reached the elevator. He got in and was about to press the level to get to the barracks when suddenly he had a change of mind. Pulling out a keycard he swiped the small piece of plastic and waited until the elevator had reached its destination. He stepped out hesitantly and nearly jumped when the doors behind him closed. He felt very out of place coming to this level of the building by himself, but Zack had given him the keycard. Though he only came up there like twice and each time he had been with Zack.
Clearing his throat uneasily he moved down the hall quickly until he reached Zack’s office. He turned the doorknob carefully holding his breath until it popped open with a soft click. Exhaling he quickly entered the room and closed the door behind him.
Glancing around the room he made his way over to the desk, what he was looking for he wasn’t really sure. Anything that maybe talked about the Junon assignment. Zack had been pretty vague about it, maybe if he knew more about it he could piece it together and see why it was maybe taking so long, or if it was in fact a really dangerous assignment.
“Damn it Zack,” the blonde mumbled while sifting through loose papers on the desk. The SOLDIER just had to be unorganized.
He rummaged through a few more papers and files before pulling open a drawer on the desk and beginning to look through there as well. It was filled with loose papers just like on the desktop and Cloud couldn’t help but let out an irritated sigh. He was just about to close the drawer when a brightly colored card caught his attention. Pulling it out he opened the card and looked over it.
“Happy Birthday Zack, Love Aerith,” the blonde read aloud to himself.
“I imagine that you would not like someone going through your things so you shouldn’t do the same to others,” a quiet, yet forceful voice filled the air.
Cloud gasped and snapped his eyes up to the man standing inside the doorway.
“G, General Sephiroth,” the blonde said stupidly, his eyes growing wide. He quickly placed the card back in the drawer and slammed it shut.
“What are you doing in Zackary’s office?” Sephiroth began, though it didn’t sound like a question more than it did a demand.
“I uh….was…looking for something sir,” Cloud replied in the smallest voice, feeling his whole face turn red.
The General narrowed his eyes slightly at the boy before stepping in fully to the office. “What could you possibly be looking for in here? Anything that’s in here I would assume doesn’t concern you, so what use would you have for it?”
Cloud’s throat suddenly became dry and he was wondering if he could even reply to the General’s question, and if he could he feared what the General would do to him when he found out.
“Sir I,” he started before his throat seemed to practically close up. Why was he freaking out so much? Was it the fact that he was in the General’s presence? Or was it that he had just been caught red handed sneaking around in Zack’s office?
“It’s early, you should be in class,” Sephiroth continued while walking over to the desk and going through some papers.
“I, I know, I was dismissed early sir,” Cloud replied while watching the General in awe.
“On what grounds was your dismissal for?”
“Sir I wasn’t feeling well sir,” the recruit replied, his mind starting to work properly again. He quickly fixed his posture and stood at attention.
“At ease,” Sephiroth spoke softly, his jade eyes never leaving the papers on the desk.
Cloud relaxed but became nervous again after a few moments of silence.
“Sir, am I in trouble sir?” He asked hesitantly.
The general stopped rummaging through the papers and lifted his eyes to meet the innocent blue ones.
Cloud shrunk back a little, finding the General’s gaze a bit intimidating though intriguing in a way. He could see the glow in the General’s brilliant green eyes from the Mako infusion just like he could see in Zack’s.
“I suppose not,” Sephiroth finally replied, “I know Zackary is fond of you. But do not enter this office again unless you are given permission or are with Zackary.”
“Yes sir, I won’t I promise!” The recruit beamed with a sigh of relief.
“Very well then,” Sephiroth began while glancing back to the papers, “what I’m looking for doesn’t seem to be here. I suppose I’ll just have to wait until Zackary returns.”
“Sir!” Cloud quickly spoke up, mentally cursing himself for his outburst.
“Yes?” The General asked looking at the boy with an unreadable expression.
“I just…when you mentioned Zack…do you know when he’ll be back sir?” He couldn’t hide the hopefulness in his voice, he needed to know and he was praying that the General could tell him something.
“You sound eager to know,” Sephiroth replied in his same soft, smooth, strong voice. Cloud was beginning to hate it, he couldn’t read Sephiroth in his tone or in his expression….how the hell could he mask everything?
“Well I,” the recruit began, feeling the blush come back to his face, “he told me he would be gone for three days. It’s been over a week…I was just worried.”
“Worried? About Zackary,” the General began, “He is one of Shinra’s finest SOLDIERS. Why would you worry?”
It seemed Sephiroth had the mentality that nothing could ever happen to Zack since he was the top SOLDIER besides him, and how could someone even think otherwise. Cloud felt a little stupid after speaking but…even if he was a first class SOLDIER, he still would worry about him.
“I didn’t mean to insult his skills or anything, I just…” he trailed off after a moment. What was he going to say anyways? Any further talking and he would probably say something worse.
“Tonight.”
“Sir?” The blonde asked while glancing back to the General.
“Zackary should be back tonight, last I checked he was on his way back to Midgar,” Sephiroth spoke his back facing the blonde as he made his way to the door.
“Oh,” Cloud replied with a nod as relief suddenly washed over him.
“If you are not feeling well I advise that you go back to your room,” Sephiroth added while pulling open the door to the office and turning green eyes over to the recruit.
“Yes sir,” Cloud replied while quickly walking over to the door and exiting the office. He didn’t bother looking back to the general and just made his way to the elevator.
******************************************************************
“Lucky,” Kyo pouted, “I can’t believe Sergeant Okuda let you leave class early!”
“Yeah…I’m really lucky,” Cloud replied softly.
He didn’t want to tell Kyo the full story of what happened earlier in the day. So instead he just opted to tell him that the Sergeant let him leave early because he was tired, he didn’t feel like getting into the whole story and instead just fed his roommate enough to satisfy him.
“We did so much more after you left,” Kyo continued but Cloud was barely listening. He glanced at the clock and frowned. I thought you would be back by now. The General said you would be, then again maybe he just made it up so I would stop asking him questions, who knows I don’t know him that well.
The time on the clock changed again and the recruit sunk lower into his bed while he faintly heard Kyo’s voice in the background babbling on about something.
“And I think he left a bruise, those wooden swords hurt!” Kyo said in an upset tone while rubbing his arm.
Cloud glanced at his roommate, catching the last bit of his sentence and giving him a small smile just before he heard a knock at the door.
Kyo had sprung up from off of the bed in an instant to answer it and Cloud kept his eyes glued to the door. He wanted it to be Zack on the other side, but then again he knew it was probably just one of Kyo’s friends…that had happened a few times during the past week.
“Hey you’re back!” Kyo exclaimed and Cloud sat up quickly on his bed.
“Yeah, just got back not long ago!” The SOLDIER replied with a grin.
“Zack,” Cloud said mostly to himself in disbelief.
“Hey Spike!” Zack beamed as Kyo stepped aside allowing the SOLDIER to step in.
“H, hey,” the blonde replied. It looked like Sephiroth was telling him the truth after all. He wanted to rush over and embrace the other but with Kyo in the room he had to play it cool.
“Did ya miss me?” Zack said jokingly with a wink while he walked over and ruffled the boys hair.
Hell, I even missed you doing that.
“I’m going to hop in the shower. After today the hot water would do me some good,” Kyo explained with a stretch before walking over to the bathroom and shutting the door. The two remained silent until they heard the shower water start.
“Zack,” Cloud started just as the SOLDIER shook his head.
“I know I was gone a lot longer than what I told you but when I got there they flipped the whole assignment on me,” Zack began while taking a seat next to the blonde, “I hope you weren’t worried.”
Cloud glanced away, he was pretty torn up over Zack’s absence, but he didn’t want to tell him that. He didn’t want Zack to think he was weak and that he would fall apart if he wasn’t around.
“Well I was worried,” the recruit began, “but it’s okay, now you’re here,” he finished with a smile.
“Yeah,” Zack replied with a grin before leaning in and pressing his lips against the blonde’s.
It felt like it had been forever since they had kissed and Cloud instantly melted into it pulling the SOLDIER closer to him.
“So you did miss me,” Zack said after they broke their kiss, grinning from ear to ear.
“Shut up,” the blonde replied with a laugh before Zack moved his lips to the boys neck, sucking and licking at the smooth skin there with an occasional soft bite.
Cloud closed his eyes as he tilted his head back a little to give the SOLDIER better access, a small blush was evident on his cheeks but he wasn’t really worried too much about it. All that occupied his mind at the moment was Zack and how nice the sensation felt.
Zack felt a slender hand slide through his hair and he in turn ran his hand up and down the others back. He felt the blonde shiver from the contact and that made him smile devilishly.
“So,” Cloud began, his voice a little quieter than he intended, “how was Junon anyways?” He finished while squirming a bit.
Zack smiled and kissed the boys neck once more before pulling away and tugging at a stray blonde lock on the others head.
“Nothing great, work is work,” he started before leaning back on the bed with his hands, “besides it’s Junon….now maybe if we would’ve been sent to Costa Del Sol or something it would’ve been fun!”
“Yeah, you’re probably right,” the recruit replied before wrapping his arms around the SOLDIERS waist and resting his head on his shoulder.
Zack blinked while glancing down at the blonde, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as he wrapped his arms around him. Though Cloud wasn’t admitting to it fully, Zack knew he had probably missed him a lot more than he was letting on. Besides Kyo he really didn’t have anyone else there for him, and with all the stuff he had to go through when it came to his peers and his classes Zack knew it was stressful for him. He felt a little guilty about being away from Cloud for so long, he really didn’t want to be, he wanted to be able to be there for the other as much as he could, he didn’t want him to feel alone when he wasn’t around.
“I really did miss you,” Zack said softly while tightening his hold on the blonde.
Cloud closed his eyes and let out a content sigh while he also tightened his arms around his boyfriend, “I missed you too.” It felt so good to have the SOLDIER near him again, he didn’t care that his roommate was just in the other room and could probably walk out at any second. It didn’t matter to him, he just wanted to be near Zack, to forget all about his semi crappy day and the harsh words that his instructor had thrown at him. No matter what Zack could always make all the bad things in his life melt away by just giving him his famous grin or a simple kiss. He was really starting to wonder how the hell he managed to get through his life before without the raven haired youth.
Zack kissed the recruit on the top of his head before running his fingers through the golden spikes. He was going to ask how things had been while he was gone but thought better of it. He didn’t want to bring up Okuda or anything right now, not at this moment.
“Hey,” Zack started softly.
“Yeah?” Cloud asked, still keeping his eyes shut.
“It’s already pretty late, usually this is the time you leave my place,” Zack continued while looking at the digital clock on the nightstand.
Opening his eyes blueorbs turned towards the nightstand. It was late, he was actually getting ready to go to bed before Zack had knocked on the door. “Yeah,” he mumbled a little disappointed. Zack had just gotten there, he didn’t want him to leave already.
“Why don’t you sleep over at my place?” Zack asked while continuing to run his fingers through the blonde locks.
“Hmm?” Cloud asked while pulling away a bit.
“Yeah,” the SOLDIER began, “I mean you haven’t since that one time when you got locked out of your room,” he finished with a smile.
Cloud frowned for a moment as he thought back to Jin and his little practical joke but quickly looked back to Zack. “Oh…well, okay,” he replied with a bit of a nod.
Zack grinned and let go of the blonde as he slid off of the bed at almost the same time as Kyo walked out from the bathroom.
“Much better,” Kyo said with a smile while tilting his head from side to side to work out the last kinks in his neck.
Zack grinned before speaking, “You don’t mind if I kidnap your roommate for tonight do you Kyo?”
“Huh?” Kyo asked while grabbing a clean shirt from out of his dresser.
Cloud looked at Zack wondering just what he was going to say.
“Yeah, we’re going to go out to grab something to eat and might be back sort of late so it’s kind of pointless to come back here. He’s just going to stay at my place,” the SOLDIER explained while leaning against the wall.
“Oh alright,” Kyo replied while flopping down on his bed, “I’d go with you guys but I’m too tired.”
Cloud smiled as he got off from the bed and picked up his gym bag, everything he needed was already in there. “See you in the morning,” he said while walking over to the door.
“Mm yea,” Kyo mumbled, his eyes already closing, “hit the light for me will ya?”
Turning off the light switch the blonde stepped out of the room as Zack followed and closed the door behind them.
They made their way out of the facility and to Zack’s bike where they rode back to his apartment. Cloud felt better stepping inside the place, it had been a while and felt nice to be back in its surroundings. He set his gym bag down in the usual spot he did whenever he would come over and slipped off his shoes before making his way to the couch.
Zack smiled as he walked into the kitchen, he liked how Cloud was just as comfortable in his place as he was back in his own room. Grabbing a glass of water he quickly drank it and made his way over to the phone where he hit the play button on the answering machine. He hadn’t checked them yet since he had been back, actually he hadn’t done much of anything since he got back except for change and shower and then head over to Cloud’s. He listened to the messages as Cloud clicked on the TV, pulling his legs up onto the couch. Most of the messages were from secretaries in the Shinra Building telling him of meetings and other important dates coming up. One was from his mother, asking if he was okay and if he needed anything. He smiled to himself, he would have to call his mom back soon before she started to worry. Then one was from someone who he wasn’t expecting to hear on his answering machine anymore.
“Hey Zack…It’s me. I know you’re probably busy or away on assignment or something, but I just wanted to-”
Hitting the message delete button Zack took a breath before glancing over his shoulder at his boyfriend who was flipping through the channels. Looks like he wasn’t paying attention to the messages. Zack frowned, why would Aerith be calling him? What did she want? Maybe he should’ve let it play through but…he couldn’t have Cloud hear it, especially if she mentioned something about their past relationship. He glanced at the phone once more, he didn’t have any more messages so it looked like that was the only one she had left. He wasn’t trying to be mean to her, he still cared about Aerith as a friend…but that was it. So he really hoped she didn’t want to try to talk about things to try to work things out. He had been clear on that topic already. But he did hope she was okay…maybe he really shouldn’t have deleted the message.
Enough about her, what about him? Isn’t he the one who needs your attention right now? Turning away from the phone his gaze traveled over to the blonde who was leaning against the arm of the couch and watching the TV screen.
“What are you watching?” The SOLDIER asked while walking over to the couch.
“Mm, I don’t know I was just flipping through the channels,” the recruit replied followed by a yawn.
“Maybe you should just go to sleep huh? You have class early tomorrow don’t you?” Zack asked.
“Yeah,” Cloud mumbled while Zack took the remote from him and turned off the TV.
“Come on,” Zack said softly while tapping the blonde’s shoulder.
Cloud froze for a moment before turning to look at Zack. He was just getting ready to stretch out on the couch and go to sleep but… “Come where?” He asked innocently, his eyes becoming more wide.
“Weren’t you going to sleep?” Zack asked slightly confused.
“Yeah,” Cloud replied still keeping his gaze locked on the other.
“So then…you can sleep in my room,” Zack explained before catching the nervous look that crossed over the blonde’s face, “I mean if you want.”
He couldn’t help but feel a little freaked out, yeah sure they had fallen asleep together on the couch but that was different. Now they were supposed to share a bed? He felt that annoying blush come back onto his face and looked away. He had wanted to come over to Zack’s tonight because he didn’t want to be away from him again so soon so what was he getting so worked up about? Zack wouldn’t try anything…or so he thought.
“Oh,” the recruit began while getting off of the couch, “okay.”
Zack tried to hide the smile that was threatening to appear on his face. Cloud never ceased to surprise him with his innocence and he loved it. In Midgar, innocence was a hard thing to come by.
They entered the bedroom and Zack flicked on the light while kicking at some clothes on the ground. “Sorry, it’s a little junky,” he explained with a laugh, “guess I should get around to cleaning it up.”
Cloud nodded a bit while glancing around the room, though he had been in there once before without Zack’s knowledge it looked like it had gotten worse. He made his way over to the bed and sat down on the edge of it hesitantly but pulled himself up on it fully when he felt how soft it was.
“Comfy?” Zack asked with a raised eyebrow while picking up some papers from off of the ground and setting them on the desk.
“Yeah,” Cloud replied while reaching back for a pillow. He gasped when the light went out and froze for a moment. It was completely dark in the room except for the moonlight that was coming through the curtains.
“You okay?” Zack asked upon hearing Cloud’s gasp, making his way over to the bed.
“Uh huh,” the blonde replied stupidly. He was sure he was blushing like crazy and was glad that it was dark enough in the room to hide his face. He felt the bed dip on his left side and remained unmoved.
“Do you sleep sitting up all the time?” Zack’s voice laughed in the darkness.
“What? I’m not sitting up,” Cloud lied before lying back slowly.
“Spike, Mako eyes remember? I can see perfectly in the dark,” the SOLDIER explained with a chuckle.
“I was just waiting until you got settled,” the blonde continued while sliding underneath the covers, his hand accidentally brushing against the others thigh. “Sorry,” he spoke quickly while quickly drawing his arms and legs tightly to himself.
“It’s okay,” Zack replied while shifting slightly.
Cloud’s eyes had begun to adjust to the darkness better and he could now make out Zack’s form beside him and realized that he was looking at him.
Zack smiled when he saw Cloud look back at him and scooted closer and wrapped his arm possessively around the boys waist. He felt him tense and frowned, he didn’t want to go back to that whole “touch” thing again.
“Spike?” Zack asked softly.
“Mm,” the blonde replied, still unmoving. He was lying on his back now and staring up at the ceiling.
“Don’t be scared okay? I won’t do anything,” the SOLDIER continued.
Cloud was silent for a moment before he turned his head to look into glowing blue eyes and saw the sincerity held within them. He felt a little stupid for getting so freaked out but he couldn’t help it. He was still new to everything. Nodding he turned on his side so that he was facing the other. “Sorry I just,” he started before Zack pressed a soft kiss to his lips.
“Don’t, it’s okay,” the SOLDIER replied with a smirk. He knew how Cloud was feeling, or at least for the most part. And he didn’t want to make him feel uncomfortable at all. He wasn’t going to rush things at all, he just wanted Cloud to be happy and comfortable around him. And he definitely wanted him to know that he could trust him.
“Alright,” Cloud spoke quietly with a smile. He was glad that Zack understood him on some level, enough so that he didn’t have to explain to much. Scooting closer he allowed Zack to tighten his hold on him before he pressed his lips against the SOLDIERS. He decided to take some initiative this time and ran his tongue along Zack’s bottom lip before he opened his mouth to the other, his tongue slipping in and tasting every bit.
Cloud had gotten the hang of kissing and Zack was glad about that. Not that he didn’t have fun teaching him, but now he didn’t have to worry about the blonde stopping or pulling away to ask a question or getting embarrassed because he felt like he wasn’t doing it right. No, now he could just, actually they could just enjoy it.
Zack moved just a bit so that he was now partially on top with the other below him. Cloud wrapped his arms around the SOLDIERS neck as they continued to kiss passionately.
They would have to stop though. Zack told Cloud he wouldn’t do anything, and while he meant that he wasn’t sure it could hold true at this rate. The combination of being away from the blonde for over a week and the feel of him pressed against him at the moment was beginning to become a little much. He was glad that Cloud finally broke the kiss because he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He smiled down at the blonde upon seeing the sweet smile that the boy gave him, so full of innocence and trust. Then he felt his stomach flip flop, which was a weird sensation….but he liked the fact that Cloud had stirred up that feeling. Whenever he looked at the blonde he would feel that, nobody had ever made him feel that, not even Aerith.
Pressing his lips against the blonde’s once more in a quick kiss he moved back beside him and wrapped his arm around him while Cloud moved closer and rested the side of his face against the SOLDIERS chest. The steady beat of his heart making the blonde more comfortable as he listened to the sound.
“Goodnight Spike,” Zack said softly while shutting his eyes.
“Goodnight Zack,” Cloud responded while feeling his eyelids grow heavy, he blinked a few times before shifting slightly to look at the clock on the nightstand, “Can I set the clock for the morning?”
“It’s already set,” Zack replied, “I have to go into the office tomorrow. Don’t worry I’ll be here, I’ll make sure to wake you up.”
The recruit nodded and mumbled an okay before resting against Zack again his eyes finally falling close. “Don’t worry I’ll be here,” echoed through his mind before he fell asleep. That was all he needed to hear to put him at ease.
While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error. The AFF system includes a rigorous and complex abuse control system in order to prevent improper use of the AFF service, and we hope that its deployment indicates a good-faith effort to eliminate any illegal material on the site in a fair and unbiased manner. This abuse control system is run in accordance with the strict guidelines specified above.
