From Now On
Chapter 9 Squall put on a black tank top with a huge silver lion designed on the front and inspected his image on the mirror. He wondered if it matched the black boots and the beloved leather pants he was wearing. Deciding it looked decent enough, he went into his search for the right belt. He took a black one and bucked it up before looking again at the mirror. Then he opened the dresser's drawer where his jewelry was meticulously separated and took an earring, a choker, a necklace and some rings, including the one he loved the most and called Griever. Squall inspected the final result and sighed in frustration when he saw his unruly hair. He tried combing it and slipping his fingers trough it, but nothing convinced his brow locks to stay in the right place. "Mirror, mirror, who's the fairest of all?" The brunet shot an annoyed look at the other boy and received a large smile in return. Irvine stretched lazily on the bed and then stretched again. "Now I don't need to pretend I'm not looking when you spend hours getting dressed." "I don't spend hours. Just because I don't pick the first thing I..." "Come on, you're like a girl choosing clothes." "..." "It makes me remember I need to borrow some of your clothes... or I'll have to walk around naked." Squall arched an eyebrow slightly. The thought wasn't at all unpleasant, but he still had some sense left not to let it happen; why always so rational? No, Irvine hadn't slept naked. He had a white T-shirt and his boxers on. The rest of his clothes he had kicked all over the place during the night. "Just wait a minute." Squall picked one of his colognes and sprayed it over his neck and wrists. "I have all the time in the world, baby. I'm not in a hurry to get dressed anyway." Irvine watched as Squall got properly dressed for the day. He could guess the brunet was taking an extra effort on the task, but he couldn't be so sure about it, Squall always seemed so concentrated on it everyday. But he liked to think that... "Are you dressing for me?" Squall stopped on his tracks and blushed furiously. "...Whatever." He went to the wardrobe's direction, trying to avoid looking at Irvine. "How cute." The brunet picked some clothes and tossed them at the other boy. "I guess they’ll fit you." Irvine felt the clothes landing on his head, obscuring his vision temporarily. "Thanks." He grabbed the black dress shirt and the gray jeans and tried them on. They felt a little tight on his body, but he decided it wasn't uncomfortable at all, besides... The boy got up and walked to the front of the mirror; he looked good in them. Irvine turned and inspected his image on the mirror several times. He decided to leave some buttons of his shirt opened and reached for Squall's jewelry drawer for something to match his outfit. The boy picked a chain necklace and saw it land perfectly on his chest. Then he picked some rings and tested them on his fingers. "Hey, where's your cologne? I love that smell." Squall had been watching the other boy intently the entire time, and took some extra seconds to register the question. "On the second drawer." "Help me here." Irvine pointed at his hair. The brunet helped the boy, tying his hair, taking his time to enjoy brushing his fingers along the long locks. He loved to do it so much. Irvine sighed and waited until Squall finished playing with his hair. Then he separated himself from the touch reluctantly and picked up his cowboy boots under his bed. "I think I'll need my cowboy hat." "Do you intend to..." "Yeah... I'm going to pick up some things in Nida's room." "..." There was a good chance Irvine found Rinoa there. "..." There was a good chance he found Rinoa there. "Okay." "Wish me luck." Irvine waited in front of the door and looked at Squall. The brunet walked towards the door's direction and gazed into the violet eyes. Never in his life had he found eyes that mesmerized him so. And they stared at each other. They kept their gazes locked until Squall finally said. "Good luck." Irvine showed his characteristic smile and brushed Squall's hair. He then slipped his hand over the boy's back and stopped at his waist. "You'll be waiting here?" "I'm going to the kitchen." "Breakfast?" "Yeah." "I feel like eating outside." Irvine looked at the window, it was a bright sunny day. "I can bring something for us while you take your things in the other room." "Okay. I'll wait for you on the porch." "Okay." Irvine looked at the door. "Ready?" "Yeah." The long-haired boy took his hand off Squall's waist reluctantly and opened the door. They left the room together and the brunet headed for the stairs, waiting just to glance one more time at Irvine and feel his hand squeeze his for a brief second. Squall descended the stairs and found Quistis sitting on a wooden chair near a large window. The girl glimpsed at the boy and returned her eyes to her notebook, though her mind couldn't focus on her studies anymore. "..." Squall said. The blonde girl glimpsed again over her notes, locking her blue eyes with the gray ones for a brief time. "Long time no see." "Are you studying?" "Yeah, we have a school work in group, but I'm the only one who seems to remember it." Quistis put the note book down on a round table next to the chair and sighed. "How foolish of me... I know it's difficult to think about school in a place like this." "Have some fun, Quistis." "Do I look so miserable that you of all people are telling me to have fun?" The girl stood up. Her high heels making her look taller than the boy. "I'm having my fun. I go out a lot and visit a lot of places, and I enjoy the peaceful times here... though a lot of things seem to be going on around." "And everyone thinks it's my fault." "I don't think there is someone to blame." Then Quistis stopped for a moment to analyze Squall's face. "Are you and Irvine really..." "Well... I guess." "Are you or not?" The blonde girl put her hands on her waist. "Yeah..." "Oh... than it's not only Selphie's imagination." Quistis seemed to be lost in thought for a moment. "You know, you're right." "?" "I'll try not to worry too much and have some fun." The girl walked to the stairs direction, but stopped to look back, inspecting Squall's outfit for the day, before climbing the first step. "You're hot. Damn lucky cowboy." Squall looked surprised by the blonde's comment. Quistis smiled and went up the stairs. There on the corridor she found someone staring at a door. She stopped and watched as the boy stood there. "Are you blocking the way or something like that?" "Hi, gorgeous." Irvine looked at the girl. "Just what are doing anyway?" "I need support, hug me, please." Irvine opened his arms. "..." Quistis directed an annoyed glance at the boy. "Squall will be really happy to know about this." "A friendly hug, Quisty, don't pervert my intentions." The blonde sighed and hugged the boy briefly, before moving away. "Come on, a real hug! You can do better than this, girl!" "Are you challenging me?" "You bet." "Fine." Quistis hugged the boy again, tightly that time. Irvine sighed. "Isn't it good?" "It's weird." The blonde patted the boy's back. "Now, do what you must, man." "Yes, ma'an." Quistis tsked and walked to her room. There she saw a little thing curled around herself on the bed. Moogle pajamas and chocobos bed covers. Quistis sat on the bed and inspected the girl's sleeping face. She seemed almost innocent like that, but the blonde girl knew better. "Rise and shine, sunshine." Quistis patted the girls shoulder. She heard a small groan and then saw Selphie's eyelids opening slowly. "Good morning, beautiful." "Don't you have plans for today?" "No..." Selphie yawned. "I don't feel like getting up." "You of all people? What's happening in the world? Are you sick?" "Humm..." Selphie rolled on the bed. "I was thinking about what happened yesterday..." "And?" "Maybe they hate me now." "Oh, dear, I'd say they are annoyed at you most of the time, but they don't hate you." The girl turned again and glared at Quistis. "Are you learning to cheer up people from Squall?" "Whatev..." The blonde girl coughed slightly. "I was thinking... Maybe we could go out and have a picnic." "Picnic?" Selphie raised an eyebrow, starting to be interested in the subject. "Yeah, and I thought you'd be the perfect person to plan this." The small girl raised herself up the bed. "Maybe I am." Quistis smiled. Moods seemed to be getting better in the house... at least it seemed. xxx First thing he saw when he woke up was a ceiling illuminated by the sunlight, the next thing he saw was a piece of naked flesh. His green eyes roamed over the body and he grinned like a shark. Man, the short blond had a hot body. All the exercises really did something good to him. He had some muscle development, but not overly so. And his small body held a kind of boyish charm. He looked kinda cute with his hair falling over his face in a messy way, still not ready in his usual style. Despite Seifer's overall pleasant vision, there was a small detail that slightly disturbed him. "Are you playing?" "Huh?" The boy kept his blue sky eyes glued to the small screen... "Yeah..." ...While his fingers tapped the buttons franticly. "And for how long do you intend on doing it?" Seifer caressed his thigh. "Until I finish this stage. I'm behind schedule right now." "Do you have a game schedule?" "Yup, at least two stages per day aaaaaand I haven’t keep up to the rhythm these last days so..." "Unbelievable." "Yeah, I finished none the last two days." "It's not what I've meant." Seifer massaged the boy's back with a hand. "You are distraaacting... me." "Oh, that's the idea..." Seifer whispered in the boy's ear. "Stop it!" The short blond shoved the older boy away. "Okay, I get it!" The boy got up from the bed and headed towards the doorway. "Fucking stay with your stupid games." "Seifer..." Zell called. The boy didn't want to, but stopped in his tracks. He inspired deeply. "Just go on with what you're doing." "Are you angry at me?" "No..." "Alright then." Zell resumed his playing and Seifer cursed under his breath. There was no use in trying to make the short blond stop with his game addiction. Damn little electronic tools of devil. xxx Squall was thinking about what he should take for breakfast. In that house he didn't have matron to take care of everything. Everyone's meals were a bit chaotic and quite unhealthy to say the least. He entered the kitchen and went to the refrigerator's direction, but then stopped when he saw someone standing near the sink. The man glimpsed at the boy and then lit his cigarette, taking some time to inhale deeply and exhaling the smoke. "I didn't know you smoked." "I can do without it. But sometimes..." Laguna returned his gaze to the boy. "I'm proud of you, you don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs." "Did you do drugs?" Squall asked, suddenly curious. "Only back in my Galbadian army times. You know, a lot of young men far from home, travelling like crazy all around the world... But then a lot of things changed when I married. No more traveling, no more parties, no more drinking and no more boys." "Why did you marry then?" "Because I wanted to! You know, when I first fell in love when I was a kid, it was for my best friend, and he was a boy. Then the time passed, I was a teenager and I realized I liked girls too. It came to a point that when I was 18, the time when I joined the army, I was convinced that I'd marry and have children!" Laguna drove the cigarette to his mouth and inhaled once more before continuing. "I loved Raine, she was a wonderful woman and I don't regret marrying her, but... one day I realized that the love I felt for her was something different, I didn't love her as a wife anymore, I loved her as someone very dear to me, but not like lovers do." "..." Squall didn't know what to comment on that. "I see." It was all he could say, but inside, his mind was trying to register what he'd heard. Laguna finished his cigarette watching the boy searching inside the refrigerator and the food cabinets. He seemed to have a hard time to find something he wanted. The man walked towards Squall and offered his help. "There are some cookies somewhere, and juice." Laguna looked around. "I think there's some fruit here... Apples, are apples fine?" "Sure." Squall picked the items and put them on a plate. "I'd cook something for you if I'd known what you like, apart from vanilla pies. But you know, Eric says I cook terribly." ...? "Eric's my boyfriend. I thought I'd never cheat on him again. You know, it was him who encouraged me to go find you. How ironic." Laguna felt the stare even without looking at the boy's direction. "I'm... it wasn't exactly cheating that time... we just had an argument and we broke up for one day. I was a little drunk... well the next day we were together again. Damn, he knows it, I told him what happened." "Why did you break up..." Wait... did I ask that out loud? "He said... He was always saying I didn't have time for him, that I was always away, that I worked to much. God, what's the sin in a man working hard and honestly... But yes, I know I've been wrong, I've been always wrong... He said... 'Don't lose this chance, don't lose track of your only son again.'" Squall stared at Laguna's saddened face. "Well... you're here, aren't you?" "Yes, I am." The boy nodded and picked up the food to carry to the porch. Then suddenly, he didn't know why, he kissed the man's cheek. And Laguna cupped his face and kissed him on the lips and closed his eyes. Reluctantly, he convinced himself to move away from the boy, but he kept staring at him. "You look good," Laguna said and then complemented, "As always." Then he averted his gaze. "Go," he whispered. The boy took the food and walked towards the kitchen's exit; stopping there for a moment, just a moment, before leaving the place. Laguna found himself alone in the kitchen. Suddenly the silence of the place was too much for him. He took the backdoor and found himself in the backyard. It relieved him to hear the sounds of the birds and rustling of leaves. His eyes kept sight of the lush landscape; he thought that it was why he loved that place so much, it seemed like it drowned him in. But then something caught his attention. It wasn't that obvious, but he could hear someone was walking towards him. He turned his head slightly to see who it was and he tried to hide his disappointment in seeing it wasn’t his son. "It wasn't my intention to disturb you. I was just walking around," the tall blond said. "Oh, it's fine, don't worry." "Appreciating the view? I agree it's a great view." "Yeah... I'm glad I bought this house." Laguna said proudly. "It's a great house too." "Yeah, really nice place." He reached out for his pocket and picked up his cigarette pack. The green eyes stared at the pack for a moment before accepting the offer. He picked one cigarette and let Laguna light it for him, before the man lighted his. Both of them enjoyed the view silently for some time before Seifer spoke. "I really admire you." That took Laguna by surprise. "Why?" "Because you are a successful man. You got a nice job one of the best companies in the world." "Oh... that... Yeah... it's good, but then, everything has its price." "You know, I have a few things planned for my future. I just don't want to be like everyone else. I want to be someone. And I know it's a hard task and that I'll have to neglect some things until I reach my goal." "Have you ever thought that maybe the price to pay is too high?" "Nah... Nothing can stop me from what I want." Laguna inspired deeply. "Sometimes I think I've left to much behind. And all for what? For some extra bucks in my account and less time to sleep. Look... You are young, and maybe you don't realize the important things that are around you." Seifer thought for a moment. "Are you saying you regret what you did to your life?" "I wouldn't say I regret it... It was the path I've chosen for a reason, but... maybe it could be different... When I was young, I planned something completely different for my life. I don't know why it turned out like this." "And what was it?" "I wanted to be a journalist." "Just a journalist?" The thought was too simple for Seifer's mind. "Not just a journalist! I would travel the world writing articles about the experiences I'd had. Letting a lot of people know about my adventures. I'd planned it all. I entered the army because it seemed to be a good opportunity for me to travel. Galbadian soldiers were sent everywhere in the world. Not necessarily to fight wars, most of the time it was just to secure territories and guard places. I thought it could be a great experience, and it was. I almost never slept and I my life had a crazy schedule but... It was worth it. I met people all around the world, I knew a lot of places, beautiful places, exotic places, strange places..." "It sounds fun." "Not for everyone, but it was for me. But somehow... someday, it was over. I don't know why..." Laguna chuckled bitterly. "Maybe I've grown up. Maybe it was time to leave the youth behind. It happens." "It does." "It does, that's why I think you need to give more credit to the age you're living now." "I'm having some fun." "Really, you don't know how it's good to be young. I think you know, but later you see it in a totally different light, and you realize what you've missed." Laguna stopped for a moment before adding, "Man, I'm talking like an old man." Seifer chuckled. "Yes, you are. Maybe your looks hide it but now you've talked like one." "I'm not that old, you know?" "Yeah, right." Seifer smirked than turned to leave. "Thanks for the cigarette." "Yeah, make fun of me, I'm used to it." Laguna watched the boy walk some steps away before calling his name. Seifer turned his head back and waited for what the man wanted to say. "Just be careful... Some things in life turn different from what we've expected." Lots of things definitely aren't planned. The boy nodded and then headed inside the house, not giving enough credit to advice. But he couldn't say he haven't been warned before. xxx Irvine knocked gently on the door. Nothing. He knocked again. Still nothing. ... He was getting frustrated. "Who is it?" The door opened slowly. Irvine saw the girl's half lidded eyes, still not fully awake. "Erm... I come to pick up my things." "Ah..." Rinoa yawned. Seeing the girl hadn't moved away to give him space, Irvine cleared his throat. "Oh..." Rinoa realized she was in the way and opened the door. "Girl, what happened to you?" "We spent all night awake." Irvine blinked a few times. "Sorry for disturbing you!" Rinoa blinked a few times realizing how it had sounded. "Oh, not that way! We've just played tripple triad!" "You know, I don't mind you having sex." "But we didn't!" The girl blushed. "Okay, okay!" Irvine smirked. "Can I walk in?" "Sure..." The girl saw the boy entering the room. "Just... be quiet. He's still sleeping." "Okay." The boy winked. xxx Squall was waiting, sitting on a porch's wooden bench. He had a plate with food on his lap and a racing heart beating in his chest. He was waiting. After a few long minutes, he felt the smell of his cologne on another person and a walking source of warmth. He felt the boy sit on his side on the bench and he didn't dare to look right away. "Everything's done." "And Rinoa...?" "Well... she seemed quite happy." "?" "Not the Selphie happy, but she didn't seem angry or upset. She treated me like nothing happened." "Maybe she's focusing her anger on me." "Oh, she's a very sweet girl, don't say those things about her." Squall arched an eyebrow and stared at Irvine. "Oh, don't look at me like that... I'm gonna think you don't love me anymore." "Whatever." Irvine sighed. He stared at Squall's plate and took an apple, munching on it while the other boy ate his apple quietly. They ate everything very in silence and when they finished Squall put the plate aside. "You know," Irvine started. "I like to spend my time doing nothing with you." He put an arm over the bench, just above Squall's shoulder. "But I think a prefer doing something with you." The silent boy pondered for a moment. "We could explore the cave." Irvine blinked a few times. "It wasn't what I... Ohh... sounds fun!" "We could go there tonight." "In the night?" "Why not?" "It's dark, you know. But yeah, we could." Irvine looked at Squall's blue eyes. "Yeah." The brunet felt the warmth of the other boy's body next to his. "Tonight then." xxx Zell walked happily through the corridors. Not only had he accomplished his task for the day, but he also gained some extra points in special missions. He was so glad. His next task for the day was getting some food as a reward. The boy made his way to the kitchen and found himself not alone. Nida, the cute guy, was sitting at the table, spreading butter over a cream cracker. Rinoa was beside him, eating cake. He chatted a little with them and filled his stomach to contentment. Then he left the kitchen and decided to head outside. There he saw a beautiful sight of the nature. The sun bathing the trees and the grass field, the birds singing a disharmonic happy song and the morning breeze was caressing his face. Looking around he found the beauty of the place. In front of him was the infinite line of trees extending over the horizon, to his left he saw the gorgeous mountainside, standing imponent over the forest, to his right he saw Irvine and Squall sitting side by side. "Hey!" "..." Squall answered. "Hey..." Irvine said. Zell kept looking at them, until it made Squall so uncomfortable with the situation that he started casting his icy glare. "So, you're here." "Yeah," Irvine said. "What's up, man?" "Just looking." "At what?" Squall asked. "Around." "Does around means us?" "Part of it. You know, you're part of the vision." Zell stared at another direction before the icy glare could make its damage. "What a day! I think I'll take a walk around." And he headed to the forest. "See you, guys!" "Man, relax," Irvine said after Zell was gone. "He's just like this, you know it." "..." Squall felt one of the boy's hand massaging his right shoulder. "It's just... the way he was looking..." "Sshh... stop worrying." Zell saw the two of them talking some, then staying in silence. At a point Irvine said something and Squall nodded. Then they stayed in silence. Zell was starting to feel anxious behind the tree he was hiding, when suddenly he was caught by surprise. A hand covered his mouth and he strangled to get out of the person's hold, until he felt something pressing against him from behind. "My, my, keep doing that, you're turning me on." "Seifer?" The blond finally said after the hand left his mouth. "Are you sure?" The man whispered against Zell's ear. "And if it's a total stranger? For how long will you fight back?" He grabbed the blond's wrists and secured them behind Zell's back. He then let his free hand roam over the boy's torso, brushing his fingers against his abs and ribs, then going up to his chest until he found a nipple to torture. Zell moaned and squirmed, trying to get some friction against the other's body. His wrists were released, because he was no longer fighting back, so the two free hands of the man could assault his body. Zell was pressed between the tree trunk by the man and he could feel their bodies griding against each other. Suddenly, he was turned around and a hot mouth crashed over his, forcing his lips to open and accept the fierce kiss. He was totally overwhelmed by the sensation, his attacker was a really good kisser and the action turned him on immensely. And it became even more good when a hand pressed against his covered hard on. It moved against him, driving him crazy. But then a voice made him wake up from his dreamy state. "Get down on your knees." Man, Zell just couldn't deny an order. He was a real sucker for command voices. He did as he was told and when his eyes looked forward he found an erection in front of him. Zell licked the pre-cum over the tip and was rewarded with a deep throaty moan. He then repeated the action and felt his hair being fisted. "Open your mouth." Zell did as he was told and waited until the tip pressed against his lips. He felt the member entering slowly, then retreating. "You like it, don't you?" "Yes." Zell licked his lips and started sucking the big organ hardly fitting in his mouth. He retreated and sucked hard on the head, then he tried to fit all he could of it into his mouth. He had freed his own cock and started to masturbate in rhythm with his sucking. All the while he moaned into the action, making the other man relish on the vibration. After all his effort, Zell was rewarded with the other man's come into his mouth, just shortly after he came. The boy sat on the grass and rested his back against the tree, trying to recover from his high. "Guess now I made up for the morning thing." "Kinda." Seifer zipped himself up. "But I almost thought you preferred eavesdropping on your friends." "I wasn't... I just..." "You're just a voyeur." "Man." Zell got up. "I am here for some time now and they don't do a thing to each other, it's very frustrating." "Irvine?" Squall looked at the boy. "Are you awake?" "Yeah..." Irvine's body was resting very relaxed in the bench and his hat covered the upper part of his face. "What's up, baby?" "Do you have the feeling that you're being watched?" The boy suddenly tensed and glared at his friend under his cowboy hat. "What do you mean? I... Speaking of it... Sometimes when I walk around the house, I hear sounds but there's no one there..." "What are you talking about? I mean, the guys are looking at us differently now." "Man, didn't I tell you. They only talk and do nothing..." Zell looked at Seifer exasperatedly. "I want so much to see some action..." "Chicken..." Seifer watched the pair. "They don't seem they'll do anything obscene right now." "Yeah... I think so..." Irvine said. "Let's go, Chicken, I'm getting tired of it." "But I guess they are taking the situation quite well." Irvine rested his head on Squall's shoulder. "Just give them time." "I can think of a few things to keep you entertained all day long..." Seifer smirked and walked to the house direction... xxx The girl jumped happily through the house, carrying a picnic basket. "Come on, Quisty!" "Okay! Okay! I'm already here!" The blonde girl said at the final steps of the stairway. The girl smiled and entangled her arm in Quistis', leading the way. They walked and talked all the way through the garden until they found a clearing, which, according to Selphie's opinon, was the best place for a picnic. The house was not far away, still in sight, but they were very close to the forest trees and had a great view of the mountain side. Selphie put a happily themed tablecloth over the grass and started to put the decorated cups and pots over it. She poured some of her strawberry tea in the cups and started to spread raspberry jam in a bread, handing it to Quistis. "Thanks." "I brought honey too." "Yeah, I'll try it later." "Mr. Loire said it was from this region." "Must be good, dear." "Hummmm." Selphie proved some of the sweets she had brought. "Delicious. I love sweet things." "The strawberry tea is very good." Quistis breathed in the sweet scent, closing her eyes. "Thank you! I mixed some mint into it." "It is very good." Strangely. "Really." "Squirrel!" Selphie screamed and Quistis almost jumped on the spot. "My God, I thought it was a monster by your shout." "It's pretty! Look! It's running scared! Hey, look how fast it iiiisss..." Then a big bird came, took the small animal in its beak and flew away with it. "Oh." "Hmm... Interesting." Quistis took a sip of her tea. "Meanie!" "Oh, it's just nature. Animals eat each other all the time." "You say it like it's just a normal thing..." "Isn't it? Don't you eat hamburger? You know that it's a cow." "It's true, but... but I didn't see the poor thing killed, so... It tastes better." "That's an... an interesting point of view... I guess..." "You know, Quisty... We could go to the river and swim later." "Yeah, it's a good idea. I love those waters, though they are a bit cold." "I warm you up." "Pervert." "You always knew I..." Then Selphie stopped talking suddenly. "Yes, I know..." Quistis thought the girl's silence was a strange thing and realized that she was looking at the direction of the house. Rinoa and Nida were walking in the field. "I think Rinoa will be alright." "Yeah... They are cute together... I'm starting to get used to the idea. But... I think she's still mad at me." "She wasn't mad at you, it's was just all that happened... Selphie?" Quistis looked at the girl standing up. "Where are you going?" And the girl ran to the direction of the pair. Rinoa was surprised when she saw the girl breathless. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so stupid. Will you forgive me?" Selphie stared at the other girl with a pleading look. "Forgive you? For what?" Rinoa didn't know what was happening. "For the other day." "The other day? What happened?" "Don't you remember?" "Hmm... I just remembered something that had nothing to do with you." "Really? I thought... I thought you were mad at me..." "I don't... What, oh... I... Did I say something to you?" "You said I did stupid childish things." "Oh... Selphie..." Rinoa hugged the smaller girl. "I didn't mean it." "But I know I am." "I'm sorry, if I made you think so..." "Then..." Selphie looked at Rinoa's eyes. "Friends?" "Yeah..." The girl smiled. "Friends." xxx And there they were again preparing to go out in the woods. Squall and Irvine picked up some food, water and flashlights and excitedly went out in the night. Irvine had been talking about it all day, so he gladly greeted the moon and the fresh air when they started walking. "Do you remember the way?" the boy asked Squall. "Most of it. It was very simple, we just have to follow the trail." "You know, getting lost in the woods like that day was a lot more fun." Irvine looked around and saw himself surrounded by tall trees. "But I think I prefer not to be lost right now... It's kinda dark out here." Although the moon was generously bathing the land with her light, the forest still seemed to be a tricky place. Irvine almost fell several times and Squall felt himself bumped by small branches he haven't seem before. Soon they started to hear the sound of water nearby. The melody was quite soothing, but quite melancholic too. Squall was silent as always, walking carefully, trying to reach the river bank. Irvine tried hard to keep up the pace, he didn't want to be left behind, though he knew that the quiet boy wouldn't let him. They reached the river after half an hour. The waters were a dark blue and they merged with the base of the mountain in the dark. Irvine saw Squall gazing at the horizon as if he was mesmerized. He felt the urge to touch him, because he was feeling so cold. "It seems like we are the only ones in the whole world." Irvine touched Squall's shoulder, feeling it shudder and then calm down. Squall just nodded. "I don't know," Irvine whispered. "I feel so strange." "What happened?" Squall looked at Irvine's face. "Are you alright?," he asked, concerned. Irvine looked at the brunet's eyes for a long moment of silence. "Yeah..." He scratched the back of his head. "I guess so." And smiled. "Hey, let's get going." "Yeah..." Squall turned to keep walking. "Let's go." xxx The house was all dark and silent. Everyone was sleeping or so it seemed. Seifer walked through dark corridors, feeling the wooden floor creak under his steps. There was nothing out of the ordinary about the house. It was just old fashioned. And the dark...
