The feel of the truck hitting a few bumps in the road caused the blonde to open his eyes a little as he glanced around the vehicle. He saw Jin fast asleep leaning against the arm of his chair while his head rested back against the seat. His gaze shifted over to the General who was talking quietly with the driver up front before he turned his head to glance at Zack who was leaning against him. It looked as if they had fallen asleep against each other actually, but now that the recruit was up and had shifted a bit it seemed as if more of Zack’s weight was on him.
He let out a bit of a sigh as he moved a little trying to get comfortable but Zack slumped against him more, his head now resting against the blonde’s shoulder.
It was fine though, Cloud wasn’t going to move him. After all he didn’t get much sleep so far seeing as how he was being so attentive with the recruit because of his being sick. Cloud told him he was fine numerous times and not to worry about him, but Zack refused to listen and kept a close eye on him. This was actually the first time so far that the blonde had woken up and Zack wasn’t awake. He lightly ran a hand through raven hair as he listened to the steady breathing of the SOLDIER. It was a calming and relaxing feeling that he got from listening to that. It was like he could imagine them back at home in bed asleep, rather than in the truck that kept him nauseous. But at the moment, in the quietness of the evening he felt fine, comfortable for once in the stuffy box.
“How are you feeling?” A soft voice asked over the low hum of the engine.
Looking away from Zack blue eyes lifted up to see the General staring back at him.
“Oh, much better sir,” Cloud replied quietly, not wanting to wake Zack or Jin.
Sephiroth gave a bit of a nod before continuing, “we should be stopping soon. The driver needs to refill the tank so we’ll probably just use that time to stop and rest.”
“Have you slept at all?” Cloud couldn’t help but to ask curiously.
“No,” the General answered, “I’ve had too much to do. Besides I like to be alert. I’m used to staying up long hours however, don’t be concerned.”
The recruit nodded before he felt Zack move as he stretched a little before resting back against him again. His hand was still running through his hair absentmindedly the whole time he had been talking to the General, but he hadn’t noticed really until the SOLDIER moved.
“Zackary should be out for a while,” Sephiroth began as his eyes moved to glance at the other beside the blonde. “Even when you were asleep he stayed up watching you just in case.”
Cloud felt himself blush a little at that as his eyes dropped down to the mass of raven hair on his shoulder. “He…didn‘t have to do that,” he added softly. He felt slightly guilty about coming along now knowing about his motion sickness. He didn’t want everyone to worry, especially Zack.
“He wouldn’t be Zackary otherwise,” Sephiroth simply replied, “It’s in his nature to be concerned about others. Especially someone who is so dear to him,” the man explained so casually that it made Cloud feel a bit strange. Of course there was no doubt that the General didn’t know about he and Zack’s relationship. Even if he hadn’t known beforehand he definitely did once this assignment started, seeing as how Zack was still being so affectionate with him. But he was sure that the General knew way before this, it was probably why he didn’t mind the two of them. Even so, it was still strange to hear his General say something like that. He had only ever talked about professional things with the green eyed man, never something so casual or personal.
“Y,yeah,” he replied awkwardly. Silence flooded back through the truck as the General began going over his papers again, jade eyes scanning through its contents diligently.
Cloud couldn’t help but to allow a small smile to appear on his face as he looked down at Zack’s sleeping form while still stroking his hair lightly. Sephiroth was right, that was Zack’s nature. In fact it was that caring, carefree and happy persona that captivated the recruit and made him gravitate to the SOLDIER. There was something about him, something so genuine and rare that nobody else had ever possessed, not anyone that he knew anyways and he was sure that there was nobody that he would ever meet that would. It was just something that was essentially Zack, and that’s why people felt so comfortable around him.
“Mm,” the SOLDIER began quietly while lifting his head slightly and stretching out his legs before glancing around the truck. His eyes met with blue soon after and he gave a sleepy smile.
“Hey,” Cloud spoke softly while returning the smile.
“Are you feeling okay?” Zack asked instantly while wrapping his arms around the recruit and pressing a kiss to his cheek.
“I’m fine Zack,” Cloud replied for the umpteenth time since they had stopped the truck that last time for him. Though the blonde’s voice held no tone of irritation, he just wanted Zack to know everything was ok so he wouldn’t worry so much.
“Ok,” Zack replied quietly while allowing his eyes to fall shut again as he kept his arms wrapped around the other.
Cloud let out a silent sigh as he leaned against the other, turning his head he placed a light kiss against Zack’s lips.
The SOLDIER’s eyes opened slowly after that while looking down into innocent blue. “What was that for?” He asked with a faint smirk.
“Nothing,” Cloud replied softly with a brief shake of his head, “nothing,” he added before tightening his hold around the other and leaning back into him.
He heard Zack give a bit of a chuckle before pressing a lingering kiss on the top of his head while his hands lightly caressed his back, making small circular motions that made the recruit want to fall back asleep again.
“Seph are you awake?” Zack asked softly into the darkness of the truck.
“Yes Zackary,” the man replied while lifting his gaze towards the other. He had heard the two conversing from the opposite side of the truck, but hadn’t paid attention to what they were saying or looked up at them for that matter.
“Any idea where we are?” Zack continued on while letting out a yawn and pulling the drifting blonde closer to him.
“Shouldn’t be too far off of Cosmo Canyon,” the General replied.
The mention of Cosmo Canyon caused Cloud to open his eyes again. “Cosmo Canyon? We’re not that far from Nibelheim.”
“Exactly,” Sephiroth spoke, “I believe we’ll be there by tomorrow. We’re going to stop and rest once we get near Cosmo Canyon.”
“Good,” Zack replied while tilting his head from side to side trying to work out the kinks in his neck. “I need to get out and stretch, I’ve been feeling way too cramped in here.”
“Not that much longer,” Cloud spoke in reassurance. Now that the General had mentioned they were nearing Cosmo Canyon he knew Nibelheim was not far away at all. And even though they had gotten off to a slow start, they had actually made good time. If they did in fact make it to Nibelheim by tomorrow, then the trip to there from Midgar would only have been about four days. Which was really good when you took into consideration that it was land travel. But seeing as how they only stopped when necessary had a lot to do with it. Cloud was trying to suppress his motion sickness because he didn’t want to delay them anymore than he had already. And while they did have to stop frequently for him, he supposed it could’ve been worse. But it didn’t seem like the General was too upset about making the small stops for the recruit like he thought he would’ve been.
Cloud’s eyes had fallen shut once more as he leaned against Zack’s chest starting to drift back to sleep when the peaceful silence came to a halt by a loud almost booming sound, followed by the truck’s once smooth ride to become bumpy and a bit jerky.
The recruit’s eyes flew open almost instantly as he felt Zack’s arms tighten around him. He heard the driver shout a few profanities as the General calmly set down his papers.
“The closer we get to Nibelheim, the more usual this might become,” he stated plainly.
“What?” Cloud asked confused as he sat up while Zack removed his arms. He noticed Jin was now sitting up and looking around the truck, obviously woken up from the loud sound. The truck had now come to a halt and Sephiroth stood from his seat along with Zack.
“Seems like we’ve run into our first monster!” The SOLDIER seemed to practically beam.
“Jin, Cloud, you two stay here. We’ll be right back,” the man explained while sliding open the door and stepping out.
“Keep this closed alright?” Zack said to the two while pointing to the door that he had just stepped out of as well.
“A monster?” Jin finally spoke up though a little groggy, “I want to go.”
“No Jin, you two stay here,” Zack spoke in a tone that clearly stated that the topic wasn’t up for discussion while moving to slide the door closed.
“Zack!” Cloud called before the truck door slid closed.
He was met with questioning blue eyes before he shook his head briefly, “just…be careful.”
Zack gave a wide grin before winking at the recruit, “I’ll be back in a flash babe. Keep this closed,” he added once more before shutting the door.
“Weak!” Jin began in frustration, “why are we staying behind? Didn’t we take and pass field training? We can handle these little monsters.”
“Maybe they’re not so little,” Cloud started while shooting the ex SOLDIER a look. “Didn’t you hear that? I think they blew out one of our tires.”
Sighing Jin ran a hand through his hair. Pausing for a moment he got up out of his seat and moved to the only window in the truck and looked around. “I think the General and Zack went out a little further,” he started before walking to the truck door.
“Jin!” Cloud exclaimed while grabbing the boys hand before he could take hold of the handle, “what are you doing? The General said to stay, and so did Zack!”
“I just want to see if we really got a flat,” Jin replied while making a move for the door again.
“Stop!” Cloud shouted louder this time while yanking at the boys arm. “If there is a flat they’ll let us know when they come back.”
“Cloud don’t be so paranoid. When I went to Mideel we encountered monsters, It’s not new to me.”
“That’s fine Jin, but if General Sephiroth didn’t think it was too much of a threat he wouldn’t have minded if we stepped out. But obviously he does so we won’t!” The recruit continued while narrowing his eyes at the other.
“Fine,” Jin began with a sigh while taking a seat where the General had been at.
Cloud let out a sigh of his own as he ran a hand through his hair, not sure if he should be glad or worried about the silence that they were surrounded in.
“If the monsters approach the truck though, then we can get out,” Jin continued with a bit of a smirk.
Cloud shook his head as he heard Jin let out a small laugh.
“Don’t worry I’m kidding,” the ex SOLDIER began, “well to an extent.”
“Stop trying to play the hero, you’ll just get yourself hurt,” the blonde explained well reaching for his bottle of water.
“Why I didn’t know you cared,” Jin replied. His smirk turning into a smile as he kept stormy gray eyes on the recruit.
Cloud practically joked on his drink before setting down the bottle and managing to swallow the water. “Don’t read to much into that,” he spoke quietly while keeping his eyes averted.
“How can I not? I thought you hated me to say the least,” Jin quickly responded, not once letting his gaze stray from the blonde.
“I do,” he blurted out while lifting blue eyes to look into gray. He saw Jin’s smile fall and he quickly shook his head while closing his eyes briefly. “I mean I did…or maybe. I don’t know, but either way it doesn’t mean I want something bad to happen to you.”
“I guess I should be grateful for that much,” Jin spoke up softly while letting a small smile reappear on his face.
“Whatever,” the recruit mumbled while looking away once more. He heard the sound of a door opening from up front and he quickly snapped his eyes upwards. “Hey,” he started while raising an eyebrow, “I think our driver is getting out.”
“What?” Jin asked while turning to look back up to the front to the see their driver exiting out of the truck and closing the door behind. “What is he doing?”
“Should he be out there?” Cloud asked curiously.
“I don’t think so, I’ll tell him to come back inside,” Jin replied while turning to move out of the truck.
Cloud nodded before standing up to follow Jin out of the truck. He received a questioning look from the other and the blonde simply motioned for him to keep going. They stepped out a second after into the darkness of the evening, and the quiet secluded area.
“Hey,” Jin began while walking around the truck to come face to face with the driver with Cloud right behind him, “I don’t think you should be out here, it’s not too safe.”
“I was just seeing what the damage was sir,” the man replied before turning to point down to the left front tire. “It didn’t just get pierced, it was completely shredded,” the driver continued with a sigh while removing his hat and running a hand through his hair.
“Wow,” Jin began a bit in awe as he leaned down to inspect the tire.
“Can it be fixed?” Cloud asked while looking to the driver.
“If there’s a spare, if not we’re going to have to make it to the nearest town and get one there so we can come back and change it,” the man answered.
“So much for making it to Nibelheim by tomorrow,” Cloud spoke softly, mostly to himself as he crossed his arms across his chest.
“Yeah, definitely can’t patch that up,” Jin continued while rising from off of the ground. “I wonder what kind of…” he started but then trailed off while looking off into the distance.
“Jin?” Cloud asked while following his gaze in the direction he was looking but didn’t see anything.
“Did you hear something?” The ex SOLDIER asked while shifting his eyes back in Cloud’s direction, the whole time his hand on the handle of his sword.
“No,” Cloud replied softly while doing the same. If anything, the main thing he had learned throughout all of his training and practice was to always be prepared, getting caught off guard was a definite no.
“Let’s go back inside,” Jin replied while keeping his eyes scanning the area. The driver didn’t waste any time at all and had already hopped back into the drivers seat and slammed the door behind him. Jin and Cloud however were walking back around the truck to get in when they were confronted with two monsters. One was baring its razor sharp teeth and claws while the other seemed to be oblivious that they were even nearby. Either way the two creatures were blocking their path to the door.
“That would explain the slashed tire,” Jin began quietly while withdrawing his sword.
“You think?” Cloud couldn’t help but to say sarcastically while he pulled out his sword as well.
Jin gave a bit of a smirk while glancing at the recruit from the corner of his eye. “If I remember correctly, these types don’t have the best vision.”
“Yeah, but all their other senses are heightened,” Cloud explained, “especially hearing and smell,” he finished as if he was reading the statement straight from his textbook.
The other monster who seemed to not know of their presence turned around and took a few steps towards them. It’s dark red eyes seeming to look straight at them as it let out a loud type of roaring sound.
“Or maybe they can see us?” Jin asked while raising an eyebrow, “let’s not wait around to find out!”
The monster seemed to roar louder after that, perhaps from detecting Jin’s location at the sound of his voice as the ex SOLDIER rushed in swinging his sword in a few directions and finally landing a hit which caused the beast to cry out.
It’s partner was now baring it’s teeth while lifting its claws preparing to slash at Jin before the blonde moved in, bringing a swift hit to the monsters side with his sword. It let out a howl as he pulled back his sword. Now it seemed angrier though and was rushing at the blonde full force.
Jin had his hands full with the other, the advantage that these monsters seemed to have was that they were insanely fast, allowing them to dodge their attacks effortlessly.
After some time however both of the monsters were on the ground, lifeless and still as Jin and Cloud scanned the area just in case.
“And that,” Jin began while wiping some of the monsters blood from off the side of his face, “is how it’s done.”
Cloud flashed the other a smile as he dusted off his uniform. He had to admit, it was sort of exhilarating to finally be able to put his skills to use, from something other than monitored fights and tame field trainings.
Jin returned the smile but it fell just as quick as it came as his eyes widened suddenly. “Cloud behind you!”
The recruit reacted instantly to the warning while turning quickly to be faced with another one of the monsters. It let out a loud scream before swinging its arm at the blonde, it’s sharp claws ripping into the side of his flesh.
He let out a small yelp of pain as he stumbled backwards onto the ground while looking up at the monster who was going to attack him again, but he quickly raised his sword to block it. The sound of another howl caught his attention as he shifted his eyes to the side to see not one but three more of the monsters.
Shit, where did they come from? Turning his focus back to the monster before him he used all of his strength to push it back as he got up from the ground, wincing at the pain in his side but trying to ignore it for now.
“Cloud!” Jin called out to him while trying to off another of the creatures. He had seen Cloud get hit but didn’t have time to get to his side since one of the monsters got in his way.
The recruit lifted his sword, though with the throbbing pain in his side it was taking all of his effort to hold it upright. And even then, if he went to move with it the pain just escalated. Though he kept up the fight for a while he felt himself becoming tired, shaking his head to try to clear the slight woozy feeling that overcame him. But it didn’t seem to matter at all, cause once he defeated that monster he had to move onto the next. Even if it was him and Jin, there was still too many, and to his dismay the three that he had seen before seemed to somehow multiply.
This is…not good.
He glanced in Jin’s direction to see him still fighting, he was doing well but with the amount that were coming they couldn’t hold them off forever. Especially with Cloud being injured. But, he had to help Jin. He couldn’t let him fight all these creatures alone.
Lifting his sword once more he turned his gaze to a rapidly approaching monster. His vision was slightly blurry but he narrowed his eyes to try to see through it as he brought up his sword weakly getting ready to attack. But he didn’t make it in time…
The monster let out a cry as a sharp blade pierced through it once before retreating and slashing it once more before it fell to the ground with a loud thud.
He remained frozen before turning and looking beside him to see raven hair come into view. “Zack,” he spoke softly, and almost unsure.
Mako blue eyes were on him in a minute once the SOLDIER was for sure that the creature was dead. “You alright?”
“Yeah,” Cloud began while letting his arm drop to his side, the sword scraping the ground, “I’m fine,” he continued before his knees seemed to give out and he dropped towards the ground. But Zack’s arm was around him in an instant as he held him close to him.
“Cloud? Babe what’s wrong?” The SOLDIER asked in a slight panic while putting his sword back in its sheath so he could use his other arm to help support the blonde. It was then when he noticed the blood seeping from the recruits side.
“I feel…tired,” Cloud explained softly while blinking his eyes a bit.
“No no,” Zack began while kneeling down on the ground and holding the boy close to him, “keep your eyes open,” he started calmly while shaking the other a bit to keep him alert. “Seph!” He called out while looking around for the General. He had wiped out all of the monsters in a single swift hit with his masamune and was standing with Jin who had quickly made his way over.
“Cloud!” Jin shouted while practically skidding to a halt beside Zack.
“How bad is it?” The General asked calmly while approaching the two.
“Could be better,” Zack replied while dropping his gaze back to Cloud.
Glancing down the blonde let his eyes shift warily to his side. He realized just how bad the injury was and his eyes widened.
“Oh my god,” he began in shock.
“Hey hey,” Zack broke in while turning Cloud’s face towards his, “don’t worry about that. Keep your focus here okay?” He explained while giving the recruit one of his heart warming smiles. And that made the blonde calm down a little and made him feel just a little better. He gave a brief nod and listened to what Zack had said and was keeping his focus on his boyfriend rather than the bloody mess that was his side.
“These monsters aren’t of the poisonous type,” the General began while fiddling around with the materia in his armor.
“Yeah, a cure will be fine,” Zack replied while glancing up to Sephiroth quickly before looking back to Cloud and pushing some damp blonde spikes away from his face.
He heard the General mumble something, and then he felt an odd sensation go throughout his body. It didn’t hurt or anything, it was just…strange. And just as soon as it came it was gone.
“What was…” the recruit began before Zack gave a bit of a laugh while squeezing the other tighter in his arms.
“It was just a cure spell. You may feel a little weird, it’ll ware off,” the SOLDIER explained.
Cloud nodded before letting his eyes close briefly, “I still…feel really tired.”
“It’s okay,” Zack replied softly while leaning down and placing a kiss against his forehead, “you can go to sleep now. I got you,” he finished. His voice seeming to drift away as Cloud’s desire for rest finally won out, causing exhausted blue eyes to close.
Shifting around a little the blonde nuzzled into the warmth that was wrapped around him. But he quickly opened his eyes at this and scanned the area. Where the hell was he? He was in a room and lying in a nice warm bed but…he was the only one there. Where was everyone else? Where was Zack!? The last thing he remembered was fighting monster after monster in the dark area and now he was waking up in this strange place alone.
He sat up quickly causing a shooting pain to appear in his side and he let out a sharp hiss. He forgot about that injury. He glanced down to his bare chest and surveyed his side. It didn’t look near as half as bad as he remembered. It just looked like a big bruise more than anything, and it was still sensitive to the touch but not unbearably so. And there wasn’t any deep wound like before. He guessed that was the work of the cure materia however.
Kicking his feet over the side of the bed he quietly slipped out while placing his sock covered feet on the soft carpet. He made his way over to the door and pulled it open just a little to look out into a hallway. He thought he heard faint voices coming from the down the hall but he wasn’t too sure. He walked out of the room and further down the path where the voices seemed to become more louder and distinguished. He could clearly make out the voices now, the one that was talking at the moment was Jin and he sounded more than a little irritated.
There was a loud bang of what sounded like someone hitting their hands against the table as Zack’s voice broke in, sounding just as angry. Cloud’s eyes widened as he made his way further down the hall, he was more than a little curious now to know what was going on.
Zack was going on about how he wouldn’t have something like this happen again, and how Jin should use better judgment before Sephiroth’s voice cut in. Though he couldn’t really hear much of what the General was saying. He leaned his hand against the side of the wall in the hallway as he stepped closer towards the end, the sound of one of the floorboards creaking beneath him startled him a bit and caught the three’s attention as they became quiet. Looking up quickly he was met with three sets of eyes and he cleared his throat a little uneasily.
“Babe you’re awake,” Zack began while getting up from off the couch and crossing the room over to the blonde before pulling him into a tight embrace, “how are you feeling?”
“Ow ow,” the recruit hissed while pulling away from Zack’s embrace.
“Oh I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Zack began quickly while looking down at the boy apologetically and giving him a quick kiss.
“It’s fine,” Cloud replied with a small smile, “it’s just still a little sensitive.”
“Yeah,” Zack started with a nod, “it’ll be for a little while. A cure materia can only do so much.”
“Are you feeling better?” Jin asked with concern dripping on every word that he uttered.
“Yeah,” Cloud replied quickly. No, this wasn’t what he wanted. He didn’t want everyone constantly worrying about him. The motion sickness and now his injury, he seemed to be getting way more attention than he wanted at all.
“Cloud what happened? Why were you two out of the truck?” Zack asked, suddenly being very serious with a stern look on his face, “I already got Jin’s version,” he added while shooting the ex SOLDIER a look that had “I hate you” written all over it.
“Oh,” Cloud began while rubbing at his bare arm briefly, “the driver got out of the truck to see if we had a flat, or to figure out exactly if the truck was damaged or not. We just wanted to tell him to get back in and he did but…we couldn’t in enough time.”
“And now that Cloud has confirmed the story do you believe it now?” Jin asked while narrowing his eyes at he SOLDIER.
“Listen I had every right to doubt you were telling the truth. Before me and Seph left out you were saying you wanted to come, so how I was to know you didn’t do something stupid? And trust you? You’re not exactly the person I would call the most honest so excuse me if I didn’t believe you!” Zack snapped angrily.
“Zackary,” Sephiroth spoke calmly while letting green eyes look towards the SOLDIER.
Zack took in a deep breath before running a hand through his hair and shaking his head as if to clear his thoughts.
“Why the hell would I do something like that!? You think I wanted Cloud to get hurt?” Jin quickly shot back.
“Enough Barton,” Sephiroth spoke up once again, “Zackary is still your superior. Control your temper, and watch your tone.”
“Yes sir,” Jin mumbled while looking away at nothing in particular.
“What’s done is done. We won’t point fingers, we are all on this assignment together. Cloud is fine, isn’t that the important thing?” The General continued on calmly, “Once the truck is repaired were going to be heading back out. And I won’t have you bickering like children,” he finished before rising from his seat and moving down the hall. The sound of a door opening and closing was heard as the three remained in the front room of the small suite.
“He’s right,” Zack began while looking down to the blonde, “the important thing is that you’re okay,” he finished while giving a warm smile.
Cloud returned the smile as Zack leaned down to seal his lips in a kiss, but the recruit turned his head offering him his cheek as his gaze traveled to Jin. He was still sitting in his chair and was looking at the two of them with a look that could only be described as pure jealousy.
Zack frowned and looked to where Cloud was looking before a sigh escaped from him. “Let’s just go to bed huh? It’s been a long, long night,” he whispered into his boyfriends ear while letting his eyes close briefly as he snaked an arm loosely around his waist, being careful to avoid his injury.
“Yeah,” Cloud began quietly with a nod, “that sounds good.”
Jin got up without a word and breezed past the two of them as he made his way down the hall into a room, closing the door loudly behind him.
“Just like a kid throwing a tantrum,” Zack spoke with a sigh before taking Cloud by the hand and walking down the hall.
“Did something else happen while I was asleep?” Cloud asked. Something had to have to put Jin in such a bad mood right? Or was it just because he and Zack had a fight about them leaving the truck?
“No, just a lot of arguing between the two of us. For various reasons. So much for that truce huh?” He replied with a grin while pushing open the door to the room that Cloud had woken up in.
“Where are we anyways?” Cloud continued while moving further into the room.
“Not quite in Cosmo Canyon, but pretty close. We didn’t want to wander to far from the truck. We won’t be able to get the spare tire until the morning…or later today actually,” Zack began while glancing at his watch and noting that it was now early in the morning. Still dark out, but morning none the less. “So we had to find a place to stay. And camping out in this area is definitely a no, but there didn’t seem to be any vacancies in just a simple hotel. So we had to take up this loft. But I’m not complaining!” He finished with a wide grin.
Cloud laughed before lying back on the bed, “me neither. It feels nice to be in an actual bed.”
Crawling onto the bed Zack moved on top of the recruit, “even more nice to be in bed with you,” he added with a playful nip to the boys ear.
The blonde let out another small laugh while lazily running his hand through raven hair, “yeah yeah.”
“You know you missed this,” Zack continued while softly nipping and placing light kisses on his boyfriends neck. Cloud couldn’t lie, he did miss this. Sure they were still affectionate with each other while they had been away, but it was a different type. They couldn’t be close like they were back at home, and now with the two of them lying in bed together it felt really nice actually.
“Yeah,” he replied softly while pulling Zack closer to him and letting his eyes close. In truth, it was just nice to hold him like this. “Zack?”
“Mm?” The SOLDIER replied while still keeping at the others neck.
“Thank you,” Cloud breathed while opening his eyes and staring up at the ceiling. Zack stopped his ministrations and pulled away a bit so he could look into the boy’s face.
“For what?” He asked while giving Cloud a confused look.
“Earlier,” Cloud replied softly while reaching up and caressing the side of his boyfriends face, “for coming when you did. For saving me like that, if you weren’t there then I don’t know-”
“But I was,” Zack quickly cut in, not wanting Cloud to finish that sentence. “And you don’t have to thank me. I told you no matter what I’ll always be watching out for you.”
Cloud gave a small chuckle as he kept his eyes fixed on blue ones above him, “am I the damsel in distress?”
Zack laughed quietly with a brief shake of his head, “no, not at all. You just have someone who loves you more than anything in your corner. That’s not bad though right?” He asked quietly while leaning down to capture soft lips in a sweet kiss.
“No,” Cloud replied once they broke their small kiss. Only to get tangled in another soon after.
Zack’s hands were roaming over Cloud’s bare torso, seeing as he had already been ridded of his torn shirt earlier. He took precaution and made sure to avoid the still sensitive area on his side, letting his fingers ghost across his skin. He received a low moan in return and his heartbeat sped up about two times faster. It seemed like it had been too long in his opinion since he had the blonde beneath him like this, to hear him make those noises that drove him absolutely insane.
“Zack,” Cloud gasped quietly while squeezing the others arm. Zack was moving downwards placing kisses across his chest while his hands rested on his slim hips. The blonde let out another soft moan as his boyfriends tongue trailed over an area of skin. “Zack,” he started again trying to make his voice a bit more forceful to catch the others attention, “we shouldn’t…not here.”
“Why?” Zack asked, not once stopping his exploring hands or his mouth against his lovers body.
“Because,” Cloud began slightly out of breath, “their rooms…are too close to ours. What if…they hear.”
“We’ll be quiet,” Zack replied softly while moving back up the boys body.
Cloud wasn’t sure how quiet he could be. Already Zack was making him moan in pleasure and he wasn’t even doing that much. But, the idea of not being able to be with him wasn’t too appealing to the recruit.
“The walls aren’t that thin,” Zack added once he realized Cloud was giving in.
“Ok,” the recruit consented with a nod while drawing the SOLDIER down against him and capturing his lips with his own.
It didn’t take long for them to rid themselves of their clothing and become tangled together. Soft pants and moans filled the air as their sweat slicked bodies moved together in a rhythm that only the two of them knew. The once soft moans started to become increasingly louder as their breathing became more frequent and erratic. And every so often the headboard of the bed would hit against the wall, not that either of them were paying attention to it though. They weren’t paying attention to much of anything besides each other, like they always did. Because when they were together that’s all that ever mattered. This moment was special, possibly the only time they would have together until the end of the mission, and who knew for sure how long that would be. So they were letting everything go and pouring every ounce of themselves into this. To be completely connected with each other in every way possible.
And even if Zack was wrong, if the walls really were thin…who cared?

A/N: -blows dust off of the chapter- Well there is chap 24! I had started on this a while ago and then it got delayed because of work and preparations for moving stuff, so forgive me? I was going to make it 25 chapters remember, but I decided to change it. So this is the extender chapter. I think it’ll be better to have this one before the next one cause it’ll make a lot more sense, and besides it just gives a little bit more to the story. But in any event, this story is near completion! Two chapters left! Maybe an epilogue, I don’t know yet. But anyways, thanks for the reviews everyone! You guys are awesome, and I’m so glad that you are sticking with this fic to the end! Until next update! Ja ne!
